I haven't found a plugin that has the level of complexity that mine does - I found some with nicer graphics though, but mine allows you to make pretty much anything with it - including custom markdown and localization
I dont sell literally everyday, but on most days I do sell at least something, it's more of a consistent pattern I would say
I definitely haven’t noticed any fluctuations/drops like you’re describing, pretty stable, some days more some days less but no gaps

sales for my products has stopped since moving to fab, its because my sales was depending on monthly individual sales for all my products
I never did individual sales but they decreased significantly for me too
Usually if people only buy a product when it’s in a discount that means that the product is too high priced, when discounts can be done regularly this can be intentional but right now maybe try lowering your base price closer to the discount price until discounts come back

The higher is your price, the more people will wait for a discount if they want the asset
Mine did increase on fab for most products(except in January when they broke search). I have seen it be a mixed bag where some people have increased traffic and some have decreased traffic. I would say search works different so maybe try to change tags and title names

But both of us have different products being pushed compared to the marketplace. My big sellers on the marketplace do worse on fab but my lower sellers there do better on fab
I think with fab catchy branded titles don’t do as well as descriptive titles
Yeah so for me it fell down a cliff but then I adjusted to how the new marketplace worked and since then my sales are 57% higher on average than on the UEM

Sales has been down for my by a lot on the release of FAB and its been lower until now with the revamp of the marketplace. Last sale was also very good

I’m happy to see that user sentiment in fab is getting better. It’s not good for anyone involved with the platform if everyone has negative feelings towards it.
I do wonder what’s gonna happen with all those people who made their own store fronts to try to compete with fab now that fab is half way through their roadmap and will likely be done by June
Fab realistically should have delayed their launch until November of 2025 and done a open beta during the period where you could use it alongside the marketplace

I have a plugin that handles everything you need for shooting a gun, it’s housed in a component and supports projectiles and line traces. The line traces come with damage, destruction, ballistic movement, wall penetration, physical materials, impact effects, and a bunch more
I am already using Narrative Pro plugin , i just don't know much about GAS and am trying to add a turret in and turret can't damage player and player can't damage turret. So i'm trying to figure a way to get the damage going. What is your plugin?
It’s called weapon ballistics system pro, it should work with a turret. You would just call the line traces single node from its component on a looped timer
Then stop the timer whenever the turret should disable
You would need to check if the narrative pro template allows you to use third party components though

I'm at least optimistic about fab, it's at least getting better even if slowly. Sales for my asset is now more or less consistent and similar to how it was before Fab, with large spikes during discount periods. I think the store revamp definitely helped.
I still prefer the old UEM though. The one thing that's hard to overlook is the humongous clutter that came from sketchfab which makes searching for good quality 3d assets a real pain.
Fab is clearly part of their whole "metaverse" plans so it's bound to improve

Thanks for the insight! I didn’t realize the EU was messing it up for people. Hopefully sales can be regional based in the future that would be fantastic. And I’m super glad to hear that personal sales are coming soon.
As for purchases tanking during non-sale periods, I’m just a buyer and the only time I even look sideways at buying anything on Fab is when it’s on sale. So from my end, more sales would just increase my purchases. Beyond that I largely don’t care what goes on outside of those periods. I just show up twice a month for the free stuff, and check to see if there’s a sale. If there isn't, I'll see Fab again in two weeks. 
That's why Udemy courses are always 90% off.

It would definitely be nice. At least bringing back the wishlists encouraged me to fill it back up again. It was waaaaaaaaaaay too tedious having to keep a whole extra doc, so I rarely added to it. 😅 But now with a much fuller wishlist, I need some sales to make me buy it. 
Yeah wishlists were a big request, it’s good they did that sooner rather than later. I think they were wanting to wait until may to do it but the forum posters put a fire under their seat
There is a big sale in April so even if they release personal discounts next month most people won’t be able to do it for at least 30 days anyways

Speaking of which, whoever picked all the weird categories for the launcher so that you can't find anything... Hopefully they step barefoot on a Lego. Seriously, the categories are worthless now. 
yeah they did not do any user testing on the categories in the launcher, I think they just copied the categories from the website which didnt work out well. I remember seeing a forum post from epic staff saying they are looking into changing how categories work to be more intuitive
Can some1 explain this behaviour? I "own" this cardboard in megascans, but can only access it from fab. When I do, it says that I have it it my library. I click it, but it is not showing when I search for it.... wtf
try the download button, I think their view in library button doesnt direct towards the asset but just the library page in general, same issue with view in launcher button all that does is open the launcher

You should get them automatically but sometimes their systems are slow to send out emails. They can also exclude sellers if the seller isn't selling anything in theme with the sale event

I’m not entirely sure if fab does this but in the marketplace I didn’t get invited to any sales until I passed 1000 dollars in revenue I think
Once you get there though it’s account wide so new products don’t need to make 1000 to participate

When is pay day I wonder? Epic games sent me dosh on the 18th Feb last month. Usually it's on the 1st of each month.
Yeah I did but I also don’t receive the 2FA emails anymore. It’s buggy. And nope it’s not blocked or in the spam folder. I had this problem in the past and it was epics problem. The only fix was to change the email
Business as usual, last day or first day of the month depending on your location. Last month was just because epic decided to pay everyone early as an apology for a mistake they made in regards to payments from December.

I dunno where else I can ask this... it's actually about the launcher. I'm having an annoying issue lately when the application gets launched. It freezes for about 5 minutes, making impossible to interact with it or even iconize using the Win+M keys command.
I thought was some Windows Security thing, because at some points there's a message highligthed in lilac about the launcher trying to reconnect to internet again, so added it to the exceptions but still happens the same.
Is it just me or is that something you did experience too? Any possible fix like clearing its cache or similar but without the risk of having to reinstall the entire engine and plugins!???

One note... the big button to launch the engine says it's not installed {until the launcher finally works} but I can actually run it anytime if launching a project from the folder so it's just a launcher's thing not the engine itself.
The launcher got the 3rd, maybe 4th update in a matter of few days time, the last one right now and the same scenario happened again.
Make sure y’all optimize your titles for fab search, I retitled most my products and now they are selling more often especially the ones that barely sold before
Use keyword titles for example one of mine that sold poorly was “ultimate damage system” but after titling it “health and damage framework” it sells better. Fab seems to be catering their search algorithm away from branded titles and more for a Amazon style search where it prioritizes keywords
Does anyone have Dungeon Architect Discord link? I bought the package, but it doesn't install. The Launcher says "Found 0 DLC to INSTALL". Unfortunately they say they only share the Discord link AFTER installing the plugin, so I'm unable to get there to ask for help. My issue is with trying to install Dungeon Architect for Unreal 5.4 on Mac.
I don't know the link, but have you tried contacting the seller? Go to the product's page on Fab, and click on the seller name. Their email should be listed somewhere in there

It's utterly absurd that FAB has neither reviews nor comments. "I wonder why this asset only has a 3.3 star rating..." well, guess you'll never know.

How do we get last asset updates with FAB? Most of my asset are UE 5.4 and 5.5 compatible ( from FAB asset descriptions) but it seems I can only add them to 5.3 projects in the UE launcher. Do I have to manually download them from FAB? Thanks for your precious help! For example if I try to download Brushify from the FAB store I get this message "Unreal Engine files are available in the Epic Games Launcher, or the Fab UE5 Plugin." but still can use it above 5.3 in the UE launcher.
epic games launcher is the main way to update and import assets

Delete whatever cache version you have in your vault, and then it may work (it does for me)
So I replied to the email Epic sent saying my address verification document failed with this reason:
Fraudulent - The document is fraudulent with mismatched fonts, text, color, or is cropped to hide the name
I responded saying its not fraudulent etc. Several days later they send the same email again in response. GG
And just to reiterate -- its not fraudulent. In case that isn't clear. Its a document provided by my bank lol

It's wherever you configured it in the launcher settings. But you can clear the cache from the UI, see attached
It sounds like you should ask for clarification and specifics so you can talk to your bank about getting it fixed. Trader verification is done through a third party service, maybe they don’t accept whatever document your bank is providing. I think I used my LLC formation documents

Fab really needs rating solicitation, the only products of mine that have reviews are the ones that people need support from because I can solicit a rating after they get their issue solved, this creates a problem where the most complex products are the only ones with ratings because they are the ones that need the most support and the easy to use products barely get any ratings since they are designed to be simple
So things like material effects almost never get rated
Especially with the fab plugin being built into the engine, I feel it would be easy for the fab plugin to start a timer and then countdown and then create a small pop-up that says "You've used (insert asset name here) for 30 minutes, how do you like it?" *insert star rating graphic after with an option for a detailed text review box

True, though even just a email a week or two after purchase on a randomized weight so it doesn’t happen every time could work, maybe if their upcoming analytics check installs they could go with a system using that. I don’t use the fab plugin so if they did it that way users like me wouldn’t be reminded

Yeah the price is $50 for a notes app built into ue5. You are marketing convenience more than functionality. Anybody could use a separate notes app for free, but it is less convenient. The thumbnail is kind of hard to look at, a lot of conflicting colors. Also you only support 5.5 so it only appeals to the most recent ue5 users
nobody needs this to make their game. it might help some. but they probably wouldn't think to go looking for it
if i wanted to try to make this sell i would skip the splash screen and start with just a clear image of it in use

the sceond of your images is kind of good at this, but 2/3 of it by area is a noisy background. better to make that screenshot as big as possible
and i'd make the first couple of the description shorter. they're too wordy right now. people will not read wordy sentences unless invested.

I agree with everything that's been said, but I'll add two things:
- I'm not sure how this plugin would integrate in a workflow. Most people use version control (Perforce) + outside ticketing or project management tool (e.g., Jira). Maybe an actual example of this used in a collaborative workflow would help.
- Plugins are seat-based (in theory), so no studio is going to spend $50/user for that
So it would be better to integrate it with current project management tools and just target the main ones?

The title is way to long and and confusing, just name it “Asset Notes System”, no one is using search for what it’s currently titled so views are probably 0.

Price is way too high for essentially Google docs in editor when Google docs/sheets is free and cloud synced with collaboration. I’d pay at most 20 bucks for a note taking plugin when I could very easily just make a component with a text variable and let my designers add to the variable as notes.

Further going off point 3, it doesn’t really solve a problem people have with unreal. The assets that sell best solve a problem that plagues a lot of people like good lighting and weather effects with ultra dynamic sky or a framework for combat that’s hard to make.

I would not support you since you are punishing success by charging double for people who had a successful game or asset without giving anything extra for the double price. Pricing should be fair to all not discriminatory

I disagree with point 5. The majority of money made from my sales are from professional sales. Assuming the point of making products is to make money, it would be counter intuitive to not do professional sales
It’s unfair and discriminatory/predatory by nature to price differently based on income. You would be arrested if you priced differently based on stuff like race or gender, so wealth status is logically no different. You can try to justify it all day long but discrimination is discrimination, it doesn’t mater what trait you pick to discriminate from

If you make no money from personal then increase the cost to a middle ground where it’s fair for everyone
Just make lite and pro versions of your product if you want to offer different pricing to different groups of people
You shouldn’t be selling at a loss with either tier, fab isn’t a charity. Price your product equally on both tiers if nothing extra is offered for the professional and just make it something you and your customers are happy with. No need for discrimination and favoritism
If in your description you offer extra features or support for a professional tier, then I think that’s fine, but pricing more just because you have a grudge against a group of people or want to extort them isn’t fair.

In my opinion, the personal license should be used to offer a reduced rate to assist individuals who are new to the industry. That's what I do
I mean Epic is doing this exact thing with Unreal, it's fairly common in the industry, and it was asked a lot during the MP days, so it's not surprising at all.
Frankly, I think the pro license should be treated as "the actual value of this product"
and the indie license or whatever the cheaper tier was called should be treated as a discounted tier
Epic offers special perks to people who pay more for enterprise and film licenses like access to their Fortnite perforce version of unreal, special support channels from epic programmers, and some other stuff. The engine license someone like CDPR has is not the same you and I have
You're not discriminating against people by using the pricing tiers, you are giving a discount to those who might not be able to afford the full price
Obviously if you are over-pricing it on the pro tier, then people will not buy it at that tier

By this logic offering a discounted price for indies or for students on any product is some kind of trick
There are many, many products which offer the same standard base product cheaper if you are a student for example
nobody is saying they are trying to gouge anyone else
Every software that has indie pricing I know of has a special license and a special version.
We go through this argument once every 2-3 months, discrimination is bad. People have been justifying discrimination for thousands of years across hundreds of societies. I stand against it

I could somewhat objectively state that the value of my plugin is 9.99 as people have purchased it at that price point. If I was to lower the indie tier to 4.99, I don't think anyone would argue I'm discriminating against professionals
But if I was to raise the professional tier to 199, then yeah, it would be pretty obvious what I was doing there
At 9.99 people don’t complain because it’s 5 bucks but it is still discriminatory pricing even if they don’t care. They care in the example of it being 200 because it’s so blatantly obvious the seller is extorting them.
The same psychology happens with taxes, when someone is taxed 8% they usually don’t mind, but when they are taxed 50% they throw a fit and sometimes overthrow the government because of the absurdity

Just wanted to say that this comparison is ridiculous because race and gender are inherent traits, whereas income is not fixed from birth. People can move between income levels throughout their lives based on circumstances, effort, and opportunity. A pricing model based on income isn’t the same as segregation based on race or gender.
Race/gender is not a great point of comparison, but it does illustrate the "core" of his argument
More people would be accepting of that margin but they might still see it as wrong. An example is Apple, when they charge 200 dollars for 8gb of ram people get upset but they may still buy it

i see the personal/professional price tier as a simplified model for charging for assets on a royalty basis

If I price an environment pack at $75, but the discounted personal tier is $50 then I'm somehow getting in this guy's way of creating his first game. Real weird! I'm not getting in this guy's way anymore than Ferrari is getting in his way of owning a car. He could just buy the cheaper Nissan instead. 🤷
And for some people it doesn't matter if I later out the dang thing on sale at %50 off. They still won't buy it because they've taken my price as a personal attack. Whatever! I don't want them buying it anyway.
And then there are those who NEVER buy anything that isn't at least 90% off. They were never going to be your customer in the first place, so who cares what they think. 😆

There's some theory that suggests discounting your products teaches people to expect discounts and means they're less likely to buy unless there is a discount
I feel like that usually only happens when stores use discounts as a gimmick, when I was younger there was a clothes store called kohls and every product had a sign that said “90% off”, “60% off” and they did this in pretty much every product every time I went there. Amazon sorta does this too sometimes
If you have a product in discount once every 60-90 days I don’t think people will really recognize the frequency

Where I live furniture stores are particularly notorious for running discounts near constantly, to the point that many of them have been warned and fined for fake discounts

I don't understand why these sale dates are kept secret. You can find out the sale dates on Steam even 1 year in advance. It's just a sale, what's there to hide?
I don' t have a grudge against larger companies. I think in an ideal world you would pay a fair percentage of game sales to assets used even if it is 0.0001% of a game's sales. Obviously this is not done because no one can fairly determine what the actual contribution of assets would be so flat rates are more predictable. But 0.0001% of a large studio game may be 5x the price of what an indie makes. So percentage wise, it is a fair rate. Flat out fee is not a fair rate. But why charge companies more? In my experience they need a lot more support and I am not answering one person's questions, I am answering 10 people in one company. It's not a grudge, I am charging based on my contribution to the project and the different tiers are approximated for that difference. The poverty rate in the us is around 30k dollars a year or 2500 a month, if the government needs 2500 a month from every person then they have a serious spending problem that needs reform, in America the government tax rate would be a flat 15-20% for everyone and likely applied on sales if done.

I think we are agreeing that there could be fair rates for products. Just like how everyone could pay 15 to 20% for taxes. An asset maker could earn 0.00015 to 0.0002% of a game's revenue. It's the same rate but indies on average don't make as much as AAA studios. Therefore 3x price difference for assets could reflect the correct amount from the flat rate. Making it a fair rate

Respectfully, no company or store announces it's sale dates any more than a couple days ahead of time, maybe a week at most. Unless it's something obvious like black friday, and even then, specific dates are not announced that far ahead. Fab isn't any different.

No, they announce it. Wherever I look for a discount calendar, I can find it. The biggest example of this is steam. Take a look, they even set the dates 1 year later. Steam is an exception, not the norm. Sure you if you dig you might find some info somewhere but it is exceedingly rare for a store/company to publicly announce sales ahead of time.

Steam is in a hell of a good position. Valve is absurdly wealthy, its a private company but its estimated evaluation is bananas, and almost a monopoly in its field.

You can retextures the mannequins if you want, I’ve done it with fab assets and epic didn’t care. I’ve seen people on YouTube modify them to fit themes of their projects too
as long as you are still using unreal engine for your project, you can do whatever you want, that's why it's included as part of 'starter content'. You will find it in the eula/etc (it's referred to as "epic content" or something like that). Similar for game samples etc. However you generally /cannot/ export and use in external DCCs or other game engines.
Epic is really lenient on the exporting clause with some stuff, I exported the manny textures to substance designers and made them look like human skin instead of metal and baked it then reimported to unreal and epic said nothing when I submitted it to fab

sorry but a blanket statement like that is misinformation. You can import into other engines if the asset comes with source files (fbx, png, etc). The content license is clear that you can’t convert a uasset to a source format and redistribute it (https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/eula/content), that is copyright infringement. There is also a category of epic-provided content called “UE-only content” that you aren’t allowed to use with other engines. There are carve-outs for linear media and other special cases. It is complicated, and has been evolving over the past few years, and definitely is trending towards more openness, but you should not assume that if you only have a uasset you inherently have a license to all the source art.

as long as you understand that it’s still not “yours” after you edit it and you’ll still have to follow the epic content license for that edited asset (although at some point if you completely change it nobody will ever know). TBH even that is a bit murky although only bigcorp lawyers would say you can’t do it. It actually depends on the jurisdiction as copyright laws are different globally. Realistically for anything smaller than an AA/AAA game that isn’t making megabucks you probably don’t have to worry about this stuff, just give credit where it’s due and most people will be fine with bending the rules

CGTrader just announced a sale today, without prior notice. I'm certain the sellers were aware, but probably discouraged from sharing that info

Companies asking sellers to not share dates of sales is pretty standard, it’s not some deep secret like you say, because you’ve been able to figure it out on your own. Epic knows they can’t police it, but there’s nothing wrong with asking sellers to keep the info to themselves.
Some companies go so far as to have NDAs signed by sellers/retailers. This is not some big conspiracy or even anything out of the norm. There’s a reason why sites like «Photo Rumors» and «Mac Rumors» exist, because a lot of these things are super tight-lipped.
I completely feel for you when things are tight, it is nice to know when you might be able to save your hard-earned money. If I have some powertools I need to buy for a home renovation project, Home Depot sure isn’t going to give me a roadmap of when their sales are going to be unfortunately. A company doesn’t owe me anything, I am not entitled to getting things cheaper, it is entirely at their discretion.
This is true and it's stated clearly in the agreement. Buyers do NOT own the asset they buy; they're merely purchasing a license to use the asset.

not really as there is no compatibility at all in how particles works for different software
In general, I'd say if you include a file with your game which includes the CC-BY attributions, and perhaps in your game's credit screen or such you include a mention of it, this seems sufficient as it's discoverable for anyone who wants to see it
since showing the attribution directly next to usages in a game's context would be kind of challenging in most cases

I'm actually making a plugin that uses some fonts (Which are not mandatory to include honestly). But since it's my first time making a commercial product I would like to at least have a general understanding of this proccess.
Yeah that seems fairly reasonable to me. It might be good to include a notice in the plugin's description on Fab also just so people will be more likely to be aware of it, for a singular font you could probably include the full attribution there without it taking too much space

np :) generally I like to think of it in the sense of what the person whose assets you're using would appreciate, since it's usually a fairly minor thing to include
They all have a shader/material, basic spawn rates/location, velocities, etc. Shouldn't be hard to export the base information and import it into any other software, provided that software lets you create particle systems programmatically (Like adding modules to niagara systems through code), which is where I think the blockers would be.
but the material/shader is also not compatible at all, at this point u are just manually recreating everything from scratch, even the simple numbers parameters can be incompatible, different world coordinates, units of measure, world/local differences, not even considering the use of other incompatible features and modules that cannot be directly converted to other systems, those particle system can have a lot of things in their setup and a converter plugin would need to take into account all or almost all of them to be of any use
its just too complicated for very niche usage, so i dont agree its not hard, it very hard, and on top of that for your use case its pointless and not needed anyway, as u asked about toon style particles in which case all u need is the visual part, the material as this is what makes 90% of the effect, its all in the materials and setup
the closest u will get in unity is to maybe export particle system to json data or something like that, but there is no point, just look for some unreal toon particles assets and use or learn from that, im sure FAB will have some assets like that, u can probably even get some free ones or find a tutorial on yt

it is and u are wrong, i was talking about creating plugin like that, your simple use case doesn't cover all particle system possibilities there is in unity and ue, so for someone to create a plugin like that for FAB it would need to cover it all, not just for a single simple case and thats not happening
but if it so easy then do it yourself, write the plugin, i mean for your simple use case where u dont need to account for all features and setups it might be enough to make a simple converter that will save you some typing, if u really have a lot of files, this might be worth the effort

I'm using Unreal 5.4.4, so from my understanding, this shouldn't be the problem.
While trying to debug, I've tried:
- Opened a new third-person project
- Did a package, and it worked.
- Imported the Niagara-based VFX package, without adding anything to the level itself. Just dropped it in the content folder
- Tried packaging again - and it failed.

Why is that strange? Any change whatsoever to your listing requires a resubmit. Change a comma in the description? Resubmit. Add new photos? Resubmit. It’s pretty normal

heads up @green seal I did some tests on the new search algo and noticed EasyFog gets a bit buried in the search results likely due to "fog" not getting keyword matched. all the top results have "fog" directly in the name and it does not seem to weigh substrings heavily
keywords-in-title seems to be important right now

Having custom tags would solve this issue, and fixed this issue in the original marketplace, but they removed custom tags when fab launched

Yeah but the only thing added is something on Fab's end. I understand why things like product descriptions are monitored because I could put in a scam link and say "Free thing here!" And that would not be good. But the only thing changed is something Fab controls anyway. The approval process was quick but it still seems unnecessary to me. Also I was checking out my products on the smart asset tab and both of my assets are in the top 50 but I noticed EasyFog and EasySnow is 3rd and 5th respectively so that part of ranked search seems to be working out quite well

I have a bunch of manual logic for handling plurals and things like that but I would not expect much this early in Fab's lifecycle
There's never been a time to add eg. search-by-embedding-distance but I wouldn't prioritize that yet either

Not sure about revenue over the last year, maybe total sales or some other kind of popularity metric. I definitely hear a lot of folks like Ultra Dynamic Sky and I've heard of a few of those on top, so it seems plausible it's at least somewhat indicative now that they're integrating sales data
F.ex. Horror Engine and Narrative Pro - Narrative Pro is ranked after Horror Engine, if it's purely revenue, it seems like Narrative Pro oughta be higher up given even with 14 guaranteed sales (14 reviews) it's at 20k vs Horror Engine's guaranteed sales puts it at 1.7k

Hi, when developing assets for fab is it reasonable to include 4k texture sizes on all assets (they are all similar size, nothing unreasonable dw) since the end user can reduce the size at a later date but wont be able to scale it up? Or should I take performance for all platforms into a bigger consideration?

you can configure per-platform max-resolutions for the derived/cooked version of the texture...not 100% sure that will go into the published version, but it is how to properly handle having a large source texture that is still usable on lower-end platforms

Hello, I am planning to release an asset pack on Fab marketplace but I have an issue with plugins. Im using the default engine plugins but received this feedback after sending the file for review.

If you open up your “defaultEngine.ini” file you can see which plugins are loaded and just set them to false there
Did you mean the uproject file? The default engine.ini is a config file for settings

That’s weird, usually that means something in your codebase relies on it in someway. You can also delete plugin entries entirely and that will uninstall them which is what fab requires sometimes
i do have blueprints setup for certain modular/customizable assets, that could be the reason too

I'm fairly sure all the assets in any of the megascans "collections" should be part of the other megascans/quixel assets which are available. My understanding was the collections were just bundles of those assets put together.

The Launcher sometimes bugs and you need to click on the asset in your Vault and choose "Remove Local Content". That usually fixes it

Assuming you own it, you can use AssetManager.Studio to download it; AMS supports pulling assets from both UM and FAB.

A Game. The Client is basically the game director who brings the idea and directs his wishes to us, but doesn't develop with us within Unreal Engine.
Oof I think you need a lawyer to give you some proper legal advice there. Things get complicated when licenses and royalties are involved for something like that. I honestly have no idea.
My general assumption would be that your studio needs to buy the assets, you can pass on those costs to your client. But as to who actually has the licenses involved is another matter that I have no idea about. Obligatory "I am not a lawyer"

This depends on what the deliverable is and how it's going to be used by the client. If you deliver a packaged project then it's essentially the same as distributing it on something like Steam. If you deliver the full sources which the client may then use to create something else or develops it further, then it depends on the marketplace content. Plugins are on a per-seat basis, so they would need to purchase per-seat licenses for them. Other content is ok to share, but only for work related to that specific project. If they were to take the content and develop something else using it, they need to purchase a license.

My advice if you're on a tight budget, do what everyone else is doing until your company is doing well..
And I'm not talking from a game developer side, i'm talking from a plugin seller perspective... If Epic Games added the "num of licenses" entry to their checkout form / Add to cart form, my plugins would be cheaper...
But the clause above is not obvious to a lot of people who are new to Fab. Seems like a trap cause i'm sure a lot of games out there are not properly licensed in terms of seats.
They do say though "team of 5" doesn't mean you need 5, it means you ask you self "how many of the people in my team of 5 will access/download the plugin or work with it"
Which really doesn't make sense cause if you have a team of 5, and you guys are accessing the exact same files, although im doing art, or AI or something unrelated to it, the files are there when i get the source control version

The EULA doesn't explicitely says what a user/seat is, if seat are transferable, if so how to proceed, etc. It's just super vague and doesn't make much sense. I have no clue why this plugin exception exists in the first place, and at this point I'm guessing neither does Epic.
I have had a contract in the past where the plugin was half of the money they needed to pay, and they needed it to access the file. So it was nice because I could verify some upfront payment. Granted there are things that could go wrong like them pirating the assets or refunding it after transaction but I trusted the guy I had a contract with and it worked out without any issues. So if you have a contract make sure you specify the price breakdown. You would be fine to charge either method either with or without the plugin. It's all up to you
When it comes to licenses and seats I’d take it more seriously that the studio has the proper seats required for themselves and then passes along the information to the client how many they need to purchase for themselves.
Basically wash your hands of the issue entirely.

The EU is the only entity requiring that sellers register as traders to conduct online business. Epic is just applying the Digital Services Act, which obviously only applies in the EU.

The laws only apply to EU businesses, if you sell a product in the EU you have to obey their laws unless you exclude the EU from your sales distribution

Yeah not sure if that's the distinction. I do recall that if you don't file the IRS forms, it just defaults to "you have to pay taxes" instead of "you can't do business", so not sure if it applies in that way in this case
At least I recall this is how tax withholding usually has worked when I've had to file those, it always says "if you don't file these then we'll withhold taxes"
Fab handles sales tax for you and in most states they have a fairly high threshold for when you need to get a sales tax license.
If you are a sole proprietor then you just file through turbo tax at the end of the year
There is quarterly taxes you can pay but I believe they are optional and just lower your bill at the end of the year

There's varying degrees of VAT depending on what you buy, food/produce is 15% for example.

The current silicon valley has some huge players. Landing a contract with a sub-sub-sub company of one of those can be enough for a startup to survive. Government funding isn't enough. You need the ecosystem.

Laws differ per country, here in Norway the threshold is really, really low. I believe it's roughly 4000$ in a year you need to bring in. So really, any actual business generating revenue will be registered for VAT.

You can definitely reclaim VAT regardless of revenue/profitability in Finland. You just file it monthly "this is how much VAT I paid" and they refund you

It's pretty well hidden to be honest. Knowing the feature was live, it took me like 15s to figure out where the questions were located on the page.
Having it automatically displayed on the page when scrolling down, or at least have the link more visible near "Description" (like the MP) would help. I'm guessing (hoping) this will change once they get proper reviews implemented.

Uuuuusually the folder name will be whatever the name of the asset you added is, but I suppose a seller could have changed the name of the asset after publishing which means it wont be named the same as the asset folder
still better than the super generic names likely to overlap with other assets. one is "Desert"

Don't know about the Epic Launcher, but Asset Manager Studio (https://assetmanager.studio) will show you the path to that content in your vault. The final piece is the same name as what it is installed as. So for example I have a downloaded asset from Epic called "200 Grunge Decals", the current version will be installed into the project/content folder: "200Grunga3ee73c00c5cV1". (Which is a sucky name, but it is what the author has it named as), So it is trival to then right mouse click on your project and click "Jump To" and then go into the "Content" folder and see it. 🙂
If you install packs through the epic games launcher they don’t have the hex string on them. I installed several packs on Friday, that hex string is for the fab data, perhaps the third party launcher is not accounting for this with its api
Interesting. I have debated removing the "Random" string, but decided to leave it because too many assets actually have the same base name. I don't know how many "Castles" and "Vehicles" I have in my library... LOL.. I have thought about offering the ability to generate the project/content name based on the actual asset TITLE as these have to be unique as Epic uses it as a key in one of their API's. But I haven't worked on code for that yet. I need to do a lot of tests with weird names to make sure the UE doesn't croak because it has a "-" in it or something like that. 😄
The hex string is added so fab can query the asset in their database and through the launcher likely for future proofing of features they plan to add with fab desktop

The launcher doesn’t query asset packs installed to content folders so they just use the name devs give it, but for plugins it uses the hex

Thats interesting. I actually scan the projects and engines in AMS and can figure out which plugin/asset it belongs to with out using the truncated id. I just leave the truncated id because it makes sure their is no naming conflicts... 😄
The name appears to default to 8 Characters from your title (unless you set the full name) and then it appends like the first 12 (or so) of the asset id.
But looking at this, I can see where my assumption could have a problem. The asset if updated will have a different "Vx" number appended, which means that an "update" won't replace the old version. I'm going to have to re-think leaving the 12 digit id & Vx appended to it... 😄
If you can check if there are conflicts, then just pop up a warning saying “asset name is already a folder in project”

Is there a way to exclude owned assets from a search?
How can I see later, which license I have in fab? The last point in time, this is visible in the Cart, so taking a screenshot. After this, I can do a view in library, but this does not show the license, and visting the asset in fab only shows, that it is in my library. but not under which license. Also the mail receipt has no information on this. So the only way is to take the prices, open fab without being logged in and compare price info to get a clue about the license obtained at that time. Maybe I'm just blind to see the info, otherwise, just having a flat for this (for example in the library overview) would be really helpful.
In addition a second question related to this: The third pack Carpenters Workshop for this period of free packages - I already have this one, did get this by using a Cosmos key. Same question here - how can I know, which Fab License I have? And in addition, if it is a personal only, how could I get this free pack from the current offer again as a Professional one? Fab tells me, I have it, no option to add to cart with different license.
Pretty sure when you get a free asset you get its professional license, could be wrong but thats my understanding
Yes, it is selectable for the free Epic assets every 2 weeks, but you must make sure to select the professional one when placing into the cart. For the Cosmos ones, they have that Get Redeem code for Epic Marketplace for those assets you purchase (they started with this somewhere mid last year). Not sure, how these translate. Anyway, that question could easily be solved, if Epic simply would display the license you have.

Well, it is not the same actually. Prices also have huge differences sometimes. While I'm not hitting the 100k limit, many people could be affected. So having an overview about your licenses in my opinion is vital information, Epic should definitely provide.

If I had a business in digital content with >100k in general, I always need to get a Professional Tier, no matter if I use a specific pack in my commercial projects or not. So having bought many packs, and after 3 years reaching that limit, Epic could reach out to me and ask for the difference for all of my personal licensed packs bought back in times before? Legal texts are usually fairly logical, you just have to understand how they are structured. They are usually doing two kinds of things 1) defining what something means 2) what rules apply to this something

So it follows that the eligibility for the license applies at time of purchase

I just published my first Fab asset. Like many of you it seems, I couldn't figure out what to put as the "FabURL" in my .uplugin file prior to an actual listing being approved. I guessed by using the pre-listing UUID at the end of the URL of my asset. It got approved and is now live. However, I can't seem to search for my asset on Fab, nor locate it via category filters. I can only find it by entering the exact live listing url in the browser. That url has a different UUID than what I put in my .uplugin file.
Anyone know if this would be why search doesn't find my asset?

I was wondering how you could even forge those without paying the price of the product to everyone writing a review and that isn't cheap for a review... but I suppose you could temporarily switch the price of your product to 0, get the reviews in, then switch it back
I think you can ask fab to send you product keys. Just request 20 of them and bam free reviews. You will most likely get flagged for this but it will probably work until it's caught
I guess, since you can give a rating to something free, maybe they are changing it to free, putting the reviews in and putting it back with the price

Hello, can someone tell me what this means? "⚠️ Not available for use within Unreal Engine." I have been on the forms and can't find any answers. It is a free texture with standard license, and not the only item that shows this. I am using Unreal 5.5 with Fab plugin. It does not show this warning on Fab website just the plugin and these items are compatible with 5.5. I see this warning on most items that are free or Megascans. Is it safe to use these items in a commercial project that will be for sale? I also assumed it was okay? If so what is this warning about? Thanks in advance 🙂
Could be the file format, unreal doesn’t use gltf I think. You need to upload a project with uassets if you want them to be for unreal
Last I checked, you have to download the gltf and manually import it into Unreal.
weird, since UE supports gltf support afaik (and iirc i've accidently downloaded pure texture based packs before through Fab in UE)

Yes that should be fine. I think that warning just means that they aren't packaged directly as a UE asset thing

They have tried and it's not good. Look at unreal / assetstore by lucid drive. It's a legitimate store that some creators opted into. Only problem is they have less than 100 assets to buy. Orbital marketplace is the most successful custom marketplace but it's still built on top of what Fab team made
Yeah, Orbital is an aggregator though, doesn't distribute binaries or sells them

For what its worth i've started distributing on Gumroad too... It's making half the sales that occur on Fab. That's with a month or 2 of marketing. To me that's significant. But at the same time, i won't just be tying myself to Gumroad and/or Fab.
Unreal Marketplace used to NOT have a competitor for me.. But FAB is... meh for sales.. i wish i added Gumroad versions as soon as FAB launched... Sometimes in my sleep i get gumroad "Ka-Ching" notifications... Some from discover(Discover takes 30%, i don't mind).... most from self promo (10% cut)
Just want to see if the revenue will match FAB if i take it seriously, even if they do, i won't be just sticking to those 2 platforms... Both are unstable in their own ways.. but sticking to 1 is not the right thing for me right now...
You now have full analytics and user emails, which is great, you can talk to businesses and figure out what is their real pain point!
Yeah it has (in my opinion) 10x more tools than Fab.

- Its 10% of the sale(Compared to 12% from Fab).

6.Instant publishing of bug fixes and feature(no need to wait for Fab staff to approve) - An API to check buyer assets/purchases and licenses( probably will never exist in fab)

The only thing Unreal Marketplace had was that you were in the "Unreal Engine" Territory. With Fab, its like you're in the Everything Territory, they both sell everything but Gumroad has better tools, rates and everything.
Also the only other thing Fab has is you can use epic launcher(Or Fab Plugin?) to install assets but its meh, a lot of people want direct download links, which gumroad has... non of that "install 10 year old engine" first

Any plugin on Fab will have all of its Unreal-related source code available. However, the plugin may have dependencies to external code (non-Unreal stuff, e.g., third party library) for which source isn't available. But the majority of the time, this is done with very explicit third party dependencies.

Not necessarily, fab allows you to use code from the web through http requests which I am doing with some of my new plugins. A analytics plugin I have does most things through http requests as well
So you can build the functionality in the cloud then just call requests locally if you want it to be closed source kinda
Having the source is very useful for those that are not using Unreal on windows. Several plugins I've actually used, I've sent patches back to the authors because they never tested on Linux and most the time the issues are very minor changes, but w/o the source they would be worthless on linux (or Mac).... The only plugin that I'm aware of that actually uses compiled support libraries is Meta's VR/Quest plugin, which because it does not have a linux version (or mac afaik) of the compiled support libraries -- It cannot be used on anything but windows...

When you have a small community that enjoy your products it's not hard to get good rating not to mention i ensure that all of my assets are top quality but honestly idek myself how it got that rating 😅
you can kind of hack the meta stuff to not depend on the ovr plugin stuff, but you loose all editor functionality
but at least you can do some dev for the Quest on Linux then (for native i found it a good enough workaround, still a shame that they don't provide the ovr stuff for linux)
i kind of doubt that there's market to sell 20 licenses of a $100 package, which only contains shields, within 5 days...

Yeah, I've done it -- but thanks for bringing it up as I'm sure others aren't aware you can. Since the critical piece is the android library which is the same no matter the host platform. Bascially if you configure the plugin on Windows (i.e. which it saves in an ini file) and copy those over to your host platform you are pretty much good to go. But I figured I would give a solid example of a plugin that breaks because of the ability that epic allows dependencies to be pre-compiled in some cases...

I asked if there was a ETA on when fab will tell sellers how many free items got redeemed and this was their response. I don’t understand why free items don’t show up in reports, surely it’s a simple thing to track and already are doing for internal tooling
is it just me or now prices for plugins on fab significantly higher than on before marketplace?
several plugins i had bookmarked were 10/15 eur, now they're listed for 60 and few other now in over 100 range
Prices are seller driven, I think more and more devs are deciding their work is worth whatever they are charging. Could also be a way to mitigate a reduction in sales due to people boycotting fab (albeit not the best strategy)
Frankly I think the whole fab boycott is nonsense and a loud minority
I just mean people compensating for a reduction in their sales for whatever the reason

That’s really dumb business wise, if you have trouble selling at 15-20 dollars then you will almost certainly sell nothing at 100 for the same product
I have not noticed a drop in sales from it, people on the forums and Reddit just like to complain from what I can tell, if you pay attention it’s the same 10 people making 90% of the posts
Like if you don’t like fab then stop selling here, go make a game or sell a course or something. Selling assets isn’t the only way to make money as a gamedev

I used to run a Twitter bot (now Discord bot) for Fab, and if you're just reading public information, it's fairly trivial, the API isn't documented but it's very basic and easy to figure out from Fab itself. If you need auth or write access, this gets trickier. Asset Manager Studio probably is the most advanced at doing that, but I think it's just auth + read API requests, which you can reverse engineer by browsing Fab in the first place.
I reverse engineered all the API calls, in fact AMS can also (if I enabled it) d/l games (See that Games tab... 😁 ) -- it technically could actually be a complete replacement for the Epic Launcher if I wanted it to, but I'm more interested in the Asset side of things for Unreal rather than the Epic Game store... So that code path is disabled to eliminate support issues I don't need. 😉 I have a couple of other tabs (& features) I'm still working on finishing up that are also currently hidden in AMS ... 😉
How did you reverse engineer the api?
The epic games launcher provides a exchange code for games when they launch that is used to login and authenticate users, I don’t think you would be able to do this in your launcher since epic told me it’s protected when I asked how to do it in unreal editor
Well, I basically watched and logged all the traffic multiple times (& any time they break something) and then based on that was able to determine each api call the launcher does and what parameters it need. I also watched any browser traffic to FAB to get other API's that the Epic Launcher doesn't use. So while Unreal Marketplace was around, AMS could easily d/l all Q&A for any asset you owned (Still an option in AMS). Now, I pull all the asset details from the FAB web api because it is more detailed than the private api's data. 😉
As for the Exchange Code, if it is actually the "ExchangeCode" value, I already have the API's to get it because Downloading assets (& games) requires it, but if it is the Entitlements API, I know how to call it, but haven't bothered coding any thing for it because it isn't needed for anything Unreal related...

@fossil summit Hey, sorry for the ping but I take my chance right here for asking... which location has inspired and given you material for the White Sands Landscape!?? Would be nice to always have that kinda info when it comes to landscapes and environments {this suggestion extends to any environment creator out there} specially like that... what prevents me from buying this kinda assets is often that lack of detail when not my constantly low budget {which, of course, is a whole different story 😅 }.
