just HOW is that the focus
We dont even know how many people view the pages
CGTrader does
FlippedNormals does
how hard is it 😂
Oh, but both buyers and sellers are screwed here and not just the sellers. Sellers will still make less sales even if they have discounts, but aren't even alerting buyers that this or that item on your wishlist is now on sale. Nobody wins here. Except Epic, because they'll still gladly make money off of AI generated poopy slop. 💩
Harder than realtime global illumination or virtualized geometry evidently 😄
fucking tell me about it
Yes, we get no analytics, not even on Epic's end. They say that they're making just as much money as before but won't say from what. I'd wager that it's from the AI poopy slop.
Everyone ive seen talking about sales on FAB vs Sketchfab are massively down so idk wtf they're doing over there
Hi everyone. We unveiled the Fab roadmap toward the end of last year, and in this post, we’re giving an update on some of the search improvements we are rolling out today, and what we are working on for the next big update. Let’s walk through it: 1. Search We are overhauling and improving all portions of search. This will be an iterative proce...
filters for mature content and gen AI are going to be content preferences and persistent
but what if the seller selling AI shit doesn't tick the little box to say its AI generated
then it looks like they'll continue to get away with it
oh.. good update
would at least help a tiny bit if there was a dedicated report category for mislabelling AI as not AI
being able to block creators would also be handy, and they could have analytics for that
the 2D assets category is still terrible. icon packs that are effectively spam
and you click the profile and see they've released a lot of them, the usual tell
as well as the lack of effort in the item descriptions
I saw one person selling audio effects and music and theres was hundreds of it. LIke every category of effects possible. It's insane
Wait until those sellers realize no one buys Ai shit
Still extremely frustrated that text reviews and questions are at the end of the todo list
Yeah but at least we get wishlists back. Very important for me. My favourite list in my browser is trashed with assets I want
If March will also receive so much updates then this is great pace!
From November to now to make a bar move from the top to the left side is shit pace lmao
Maybe the Fab team just needs more people working on it and they don't have the funding. I propose we start an application for the Fab team to get an epic megagrant. It's the perfect solution
I'm finding it hard to believe that an Epic associated team is lacking funds
You can't just add people to a team to make it go faster. You can't use 9 women to give birth to a child in 1 month..
There are limits to how thin you can stretch a team by adding new people.
I'm not saying they are at capacity. Maybe they are, maybe they could use some more people.
But you still need to start on what's the most important thing and work down from there. You can't look at one work item in isolation and think it took them 3 months to move a menu.
But thats what they did tho.. i haven't seen or heard one complaint about the menu being at the top instead of the left hand side, but loads of complaints about sales dropping, about no analytics, about no information about the buyer who's purchased a product, no text review, no question section, no view count, no ability to put sales on, literally no features to the benefit of the sellers only trying to make fab look pretty
its pretty clear thats where their priorities have been and are going to continue.. analytics aren't even on the roadmap 😂
I guarantee they wont even tell sellers who's wishlisted something because that would be an analytic.. and they dont do those over there at FAB
Someone on the forums suggested a weekly release limit for sellers of 1-2 releases a week which would make sense for legit products. I think it should be like 4-5 so people who have lite and pro versions can release at the same time though
Tbf sellers can go without analytics and written reviews but the platform can’t exist if people are not buying stuff. Despite what they said I do think buyer spending is down compared to the marketplace so they are prioritizing that. Discovery helps both buyer and seller far more than knowing how many views you get.
hi! I'm trying to download quixel bridge but I keep getting an error message about failing to copy files and having to abort the download
Why do free assets have bad ratings?
I'm fed up with the weak assets in these rotations, but why rate them poorly? After all, they're free.
I think people are taking out their anger with fab on the sellers. I would not submit for free promotion until this sentiment goes down
There is no real reason a pot asset that had above 4.5 stars before the promotion would go down to 2 stars when more people got access to it. It’s sad and hopefully fab sets up a policy that protects sellers in this promotion
Good suggestion, but I toggled all my filters and no dice 😦
I refreshed my Fab in the Library tab of the Epic Launcher and still no dice 😦
What are you, insane? You mean to tell me that you DON'T want to see anymore Unique Creature Packs in your feed?!
Pfft, filtering search. Whoever heard of such a thang.
Solved my issue @rose lagoon @green seal! I had to logout and log back in, then the website let me "add to library" on fab's website then logout login in epic launcher then the fab refresh worked. Thanks guys!
With the 88% payout mishap, the way I understood it is that this months payment was now supposed to happen before the 7th, or is it on the 7th? Has anybody received this deposit?
I post this question in Fab, because I suspect that it is related to the change to Fab (and there seems to be no Launcher specific section). Having an asset in my Launcher since some time, having added it to a 5.0 project. In the meantime, this is also available for 5.5. But the Launcher just knows, that it's up to 5.4 and also does not show any orange update flag: - the only way to get around this: remove local content and voila, correct versions are displayed. IIRC, this was not the case before Fab launch. Shouldn't the launcher check Fab when hovering the Info icon or at least at startup when syncing up? It cannot be related to the fact, that I did import this into a 5.0 project - at that time, the 5.4 version did not exist. This happens for all assets having locally cached content.
EDIT: Just tested an asset that has an orange Update flag - showing 5.4 on hovering - still showing 5.4 after doing the update and downloading 3.5GB along with verify... Almost sure, there's some link failing between Launcher and Fab and some stuff kept in the vault...
Uhh that's nice I'm excited for it 😁
Yeah I reported the issue here a while ago. The whole product update thing is completely messed up since Fab (not that is was great before that). I didn't report it on the forums because I gave up on that having any impact whatsoever, but if you're motivated enough...
I'm just hoping they're planning on ditching the launcher and moving to something (anything) else, because it can't be worse. But then again, looking at Fab, they obviously can do worse than whatever they want to replace, so maybe I should revise my strategy here.
In the meantime, some people recommended https://www.assetmanager.studio/. I can't use it personally because it doesn't support "bare" vaults, which is what I'm using.
Has that always had a Windows build? Because that seems to be a decent way forward for the source built engine problem
Windows build came in April 2023 according to the changelog
I assumed on the 7th
Hello Sourcers. 👋
Is it asking too much to have a UE5 Skeleton Rigged filter so to hide any character rigged to the UE4 skeleton from our search results? Is a filter like that in Epic roadmap??
Just asking, with still high hopes...
I really hope characters creators at least will start adding a UE5 Skeleton Rigged or just a simple UE5 Skeleton tag to their own characters when available. Same with animations makers.
Just my 2cents, of course, but I'm sure many would appreciate that just like me when I read "rigged to the UE5 skeleton" in descriptions. 😏
Cheers!
Ok so i have made my trailer 60fps and also upscaled video to make quality better with AI tool
so do you notice any ai artifacts ? is it good to publish ?
Without AI : https://youtu.be/yG1csdVUtiI
AI : https://youtu.be/l3qwd1NsRaA
Its on my todo list and shouldn't be too hard to support... 😉
Out of curiosity, you mean bare as in just the manifest -- so you have no icons for these Assets showing in the Epic Launcher?
I only have the manifests yes, but everything appears fine in the Epic Launcher, including icons (or I'm not sure what you mean). The launcher even thinks I have 600+GB of assets on disk.
Oh, thats interesting, so it must be using the link back to the asset on the store for the image. Which was the idea I had if the image that normally is with the asset it missing. If I may ask why do you just keep just the manifest, what is the purpose for bare assets since you can't do anything with them?
I do it to get notified of updates. If you don't have the assets in your Vault, the launcher doesn't notify you (as it checks if the hash of the latest in the vault matches the hash of the latest release - I think).
Yeah, but why? Did you install them in a project and now don't want the second copy (the vault copy?) or some other reason, trying to understand the need so maybe I can make it even better... 😄
My vault is around 600GB, and I don't want to waste that amount of space on disk
But why bother keeping the manifest if you aren't using the asset, you can see all the assets you own and search them in the asset tab instead of the vault tab.
Keeping the manifest is the only way to get notified of updates without keeping the assets in the Vault. I'm using the assets in my project, and I want to get notified when a new release is available. I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing?
(my project is a never ending project BTW, it's been going on since 4.25 and will continue forever - weird stuff, I'm not making games or anything like that)
Dear Epic/Fab Team, could someone please have a look at the currently Limited-Time Free asset Packs? All 3 of them have drastically falling ratings - to me, it looks like there are some trolls around rating down the packs. Fab definitely should only allow ratings with meaningful comments and make them visible to the public, as was the case with the former marketplace - otherwise that rating function is rather useless. This should also be in Epics own interest.
So there is two additional possibly actionable things here:
- A feature to "Install" and auto-bare it..
- A feature to "Install" and completely delete, but then use the info in the projects themselves to track what assets are installed (& at what version) to beable to let you know a projects assets are out of date.
The #2 - the project being out of date is already on my todo list, but not the auto-delete (or auto-bare) after install...
Unreal Source is not actually an official Epic channel. It is possible someone from Epic MIGHT see this, but odd's seem unlikely. This is purely a community effort...
Yeah you should put this on the Forums. But someone else already did and they said they are "investigating"
Do you have a link to the forum post?
#2 seems tricky since users can edit the files, no? Or maybe move the manifest to the project, but then it'll most likely get deleted by the user... Or have the version tracking done internally in AMS? Anyway, that's your headache, not mine 😄
For the auto-delete I have a workflow that works for me: my bare vault is actually version controlled (because I kind of don't want to lose track of what update I'm at), and I have a hook that wipes it on commit. I was sighing so much when I set that up, the length we go to just because Epic simply can't put out a decent client for Fab/Marketplace (but given you're making AMS, I'm guessing you're already very very very aware of that).
Yeah, #2 is very tricky, and I was thinking of tracking it internally because the manifest isn't copied over if I recall correctly. It is a headache, which is why it is a ways down on my todo list... 😉
I'm glad you have a method that works for you, I will support bare repos in the future, and if there is a call for an auto-bare feature it isn't hard to do. I already have an auto-platform cleaning / dl system where it only d/ls files for your platform and can auto-delete any platform specific files that aren't yours on already existing vault assets. Saved like over a 100gb on my vault already. 😄
I cant seem to find the link anymore but I still have a screenshot of their answer:
ah, thank you
as other mentioned this is a community server but epic does have a official server for fab called "epic for indies" that has their community management team responding to people. you can try there
I agree that if giving away your asset for free means trolls will review bomb it then that reduces the number of voluntarily free products and is in fabs best interest to moderate those
Anyone have some nice asset recommendations that are pretty much essentials to pickup that are around and at least $25. Im looking for one since there is the promotion to get 6 months free of substance painter if you buy an asset worth $25.
Just made record breaking sales yesterday for some reason. You too?
yea idk y either
was very slow and random influx yesterday
People with tax refunds?
hi everyone, is this a known bug? i just purchased this seaweed atlases on fab from quixel and it doesnt appear in the fab ue5 window. is there any way to fix this? thanks
there isn't a single atlases that appear when i search on the fab window
Could be
I observe the same with the quixel assets. The good old Quixel website had nicely organized and browsable categories, but Fab seems to mixup things completely, most of the time running into that "not found" screen.
Fortunately it is still possible to use quixel website to browse and find assets. From here, you can use "Get it on Fab", which redirects to the Fab location, which Fab itself does not seem to find.
So I'm just hopping back on Quixel for some assets, and it took me to Fab... and is asking me to pay for leaf cards? I'm not up to speed on the Fab issues. These used to be free for Unreal users. Am I missing a workflow to get them for free? I used Bridge to search, and then clicked on the Fab link that it gave me.
I'm currently on a similar problem, I have the assets on FAB but the formats are not the same
Likes there is no more mask ORD
it takes a little while to update as far as I'm aware. Try the epic games vault, it should be in there
alternatively, you can also go to that asset directly in the fab plugin and see if you can get it from there
What’s a scam?
The message got deleted... It was a steam gift card scam
Oh
People get their accounts hacked and the hackers try to send those. I had to get a bot for my discord server to ban the steam links
People still dont to 2FA?
2FA doesn't save you from phishing
Only if it's implemented using something like WebAuthn or FIDO
since those ensure that you're on the real website also and not on some site pretending to be it
but I'd be willing to bet that the adoption rate on those is less than 1%, and I don't know if Steam even supports them
I don’t require 2fa for people to join my server since it’s the main support line
Yeah me neither but still...
Its so annoying when someone doesn't have a support Discord
Yeah I don’t usually buy products if the seller doesn’t have a support channel
<@&213101288538374145> There is anaother scam link bot here trying to get people to click a link, can you delete it please, thank you
Best to right click on them and do app -> report.
Did any other U.S. Fab sellers get tax information (1099-k) with wrong amounts? It says I have earned less on the form than what fab sales report shows and what I have been paid out. I think it's started being wrong amounts for the months during fab. Just curious if this is a problem for others too
Not in the US, but they had a problem where they accidentally paid out 88% instead of 100% for December, could this be what you're seeing?
The tax forms are only to report income from January to December of 2024. The 88% was a problem but that's an issue of this year's income and not last year's. The tax info isn't the biggest issue though, it just means I have to correct it on my side. But if there are other U.S. sellers, don't go off of that form because it's underestimating your income which could lead to trouble with the IRS
anyone ever got a "changes needed" cause of this:
"Please note that if your product relies on a plugin, you need to either disable it or place a disclaimer on the product page stating which plugins are required by your product."
The plugin in question is an engine plugin. Vanilla Unreal Engine installation, not a 3rd party plugin.
I've submitted multiple other plugins in the past that depend on default plugins and never got this...
Wondering if anyone has insight on this. I just had a dev reach out to me for support and during conversation, he mentioned that he didn't purchase my asset from Fab, but rather this website. Is this pirated assets?
Yeah, that's definitely a pirate site
Is there anything to do about this? There are obviously other people benefiting from creators hard work. They are re-selling assets for way less than retail on Fab. (My product is 40, and this person I'm assisting stated that they purchased it for 18)
a pirate site that you have to pay for lmao, this is kinda funny
also, may wanna remove that link, wouldn't wanna have anything happen for sharing pirated sites
Not much else than try to contact them and tell them to remove it. If that fails (seems pretty likely), try to find out who their hosting, domain etc. provider is and send a DMCA request.
So disheartening to see my shit get pirated and re-sold
Keep in mind most users who would pirate it most likely would never buy it
Not much you can do.
Except redesign and add something that forces users to be legitimate. Like have a "free" something that can only be obtained by order verified users.
It should not be a core part, but it should also simplify life a lot. A nice bonus for those who have bought it
See in this case, apperently they searched for "unreal engine templates" on google, and a link to that site popped up. Not too sure what to believe at this point
And they have tons of creators assets on their site which makes this 100 times worse
Yeah this isn't the first time I see that website so it's been around for a long time now
It looks to be hosted by some random Moldovan hosting provider
lol, their website shows up on google with "offshore DMCA ignored hosting"
yep no surprises there...
I believe I might have his government name lmao
wow lol
I wouldn't be surprised if that's an alias, but on the other hand, unless Epic sics their lawyers at this, most likely nothing would ever come out of it
I wonder how much this guy is pocketing off of other peoples work
This is on their site. Is this supposed to make it "okay"?
I would tell the guy who purchased that thing to immediately dispute the payment
but I guess depending on how long ago it was it might not do anything
You'll drive yourself crazy trying to reason with piraters or why they pirate or thinking they have much of a conscience, they don't. honestly almost everyone can do the same thing the host is doing... it just doesn't feel right to most of us.
They pocket a lot obviously. enough to live on.
Just add some sort of way that forces users to be legitimate. very frequent updates or something that you only document in private verified chats/links that you give access to only for ligitimate purchases
i dont understand the point of pirate sites you have to pay for. That's straight up just scamming because you're paying money for something you wont even get the license to
At that point why not just save up to buy the actual thing
incentivizing a "legitimate" purchase is a crazy concept to me, but I suppose what else is their I can do about it
You're pretty unlikely to get much out of incentivizing anything tbh
Majority of people who pirate anything do it because they simply can't afford something, or they're just downloading stuff "just to see", and these are cases where they are never going to pay for it unless it's really cheap
I wonder if it's a coincidence I found a "Vlad Vasilenko" on YouTube who has a big playlist of UE4 related videos?
Yea I hear you. Just sucks that the devs who spend a lot of their time creating these assets are the ones getting the shit end of the stick here
There's another issue, i sometimes buy plugins cause i want to "see" the code.
With sites like these why spend money...
Well you're not really getting the shit end of anything here because as said since most of these people wouldn't buy, you're getting 0 dollars out of 0 dollars :)
It's more of a problem for folks who pay people like this I guess
if it makes you feel any better, the people who are pirating are mostly a minority and as zomg said, wouldn't be able to afford your product if the pirated version didn't exist anyway. You're not losing out on much. Your best options are to move on or DMCA if you're able to (in this case you can't). In the meantime, you can lock your support behind purchase verification. Fab added that handy receipt check after all
Yea no for sure. if the assets were free it would be a different story. but the fact that some random dude is banking from other peoples assets on Fab is really disappointing
That's my issue as well, why are they paid lol
Some people are gullible enough to think this is legit I guess
Seems like that's how this scam works
the site probably advertises itself as a "discounted marketplace" or something
Their "business" model is you pay a fraction for more .
Eg $200 a year to access 300 code plugins.
It would be a good deal if what you got was not copyrighted
You know i'd be on board if it was something official like humble bundle for example, but no you pay to get unlicensed stuff lol. You're paying for a potential copyright
I sent through a support request regarding this. I don't expect anything to happen, but I suppose informing them about this might present action eventually
The sad part is, this isn't the first person I've spoken to that has admitted to pirating my assets. the need for Verification is becoming quite apparent to me now 😄
Sounds like it's a good problem if your assets are that popular
I didn't even find my plugin on that site lol
but then again mine is fairly niche
I guess. This is my primary source of income so you can imagine how this is leaving a really sour taste in my mouth. This is the first time I'm seeing it for myself so I suppose its more so just a little surprising. I know there's nothing I can really do about it
Well you are not the target here, it's for others without comprehension and they fall to the scam
true
I mean if their view count is real, it seems like tons of people use this site
I am unsure how unreal engine would go about implementing an anti piracy check in unreal engine, because you can download and modify the engine so what stops somebody from deleting the piracy check? You would almost need game publishers do piracy check, which seems difficult to do as well
They already have the PluginWarden for plugins. It can obviously be worked around, but it's a start. You can never totally prevent piracy, but you can make it harder to deter most people. The optimal amount of fraud is non-zero
What site is this? Just tell me what to google and I’ll find it. I wanna see if my stuff is on there
Didn't know about the plugin warden, that's good. Yeah just making the process harder seems to be the only way to reduce it
I always delete or comment out the code from plugins that use that because I install my plugins to my project and don’t always have the epic launcher running so it’s annoying.
The only solution is for Epic Games to authenticate the plugins/assets from their end if a user wants it to work in the engine at all. But I'm sure somebody out there will still copy the code by hand, or jist rip the assets somehow and still upload it themselves.
So what's the point in uploading content at all?
Are most of the customers out there not even game devs, but are just broke ass teenagers?
Most fab users are not major studios, it’s usually solo devs and people learning unreal or unity. That being said most of them are not pirates or broke teenagers. The best course of action is to just have epic games use their legal authority to shut down websites that redistribute assets illegally. It’s illegal in every country in the world to host pirated content and even if you can’t takedown the inviduals doing it the hosting providers for their website won’t take the risk
So send a ticket to epic letting them know your assets are being illegally redistributed so their lawyers can build a case
In the past they have done takedowns of illegal hosting sites
If that's true then that must mean that no one has even bothered taking action against that website yet.
It just popped up and as far as I know I’m the only one who has reported it to epic. Report it to epic so they can build a case to get it shut down.
Now what if the pirate just sets up his own desktop server instead of using a provider? Maybe his ISP would take action?
then he is liable for any illegal content. it looks like he uses the euro so the european union could send their government to put him in prison
but you need to report it to epic if your assets are being redistrubed illegaly so they can build a case. without reports epic cant build a case, as far as they know we are selling our products there with consent
the good news for us is that the site requires a subscription to use as far as I can tell which means he probably doesnt distribute the files and just scams people of their money and information
Does anyone have some construction vehicle models? Pls
or construction workers?
Or anywhere where I could find it for free?
but what about this lol
to be honest this website only has popular and good product, so many plugin I just only found about after I found this website.
for example there is a plugin that compiles pso cash when shipping build is opened first time. so no shuttering mid game happens even has loading bar for that.
i am working as game dev for 4 years this plugin never showed up in in epic market place or fab , even after searching pso caching.

Video about how bad fab is it, but on russian language.
Im looking for models from an asset pack that i only know the names of, any idea where to even start
the names are
Building_SFG_L2_Window_UpperL_Frame
Building_SFG_L2_Window_LowerL_Frame
Building_SFG_X1_Door_Frame
it might be a reach but i was wondering if anyone may recognise the models
ive had luck asking in unreal servers before
Aw, no English captions... 😕
Google translate from the video description (Russian to English):
In this video I will at least try to talk about the situation that happened with the new Epic Games store - FAB. Having been a seller for 6 years on the Unreal Engine marketplace, our collective store and team were deleted after learning that they had deliberately carried out review bombing on February 5-6, 2025, on free assets in order to convey to the development team that they needed to change the site development priorities and at least add the necessary functionality in some form. With the removal of our "BRUTAL STOCK" page. All our assets were also deleted, including from the people who bought them. We consider this illegal, and many of Epic Games' statements in the case of the FAB store are deception and scam. The Marketplace does not meet the minimum technical requirements, it sells a huge amount of illegal content, and adequate competition cannot exist on it in its current state. Against the backdrop of AI content, re-uploads of other people's assets, stolen 3D models from stocks and games, the overall quality of content has dropped significantly, and due to the huge number of assets released per day, it is impossible to compete as an honest 3D artist or programmer in such realities. The overall quality standard has fallen, including the majority of sellers experiencing a decrease in sales compared to the old marketplace. With this video I want to convey this situation to as many people as possible, sellers, game developers, etc.
I don't know if the translation is completely correct. Funnily enough, one of the tags for the video is #scum. 😆
It's kinda funny how much people seem to think Epic has some kind of obligation to provide a platform for them to run their business on
They're learning first hand the results of what can happen when you depend on someone else's platform. It sucks if it ruins their business and potentially livelihood, but you can't just start flinging shit at the platform and expect no repercussions.
Some of these people seem to have absolutely no grasp on reality of doing business, especialy when some of them say things like Epic intentionally did this, Epic doesn't want to fix it, etc., when obviously this also impacts Epic's bottom line if their platform doesn't perform as well as it did in the past.
Its best to always have an alternate selling platform. your own site, gumroad or other platforms. Depending solely on fab.com is not a good idea. but the “official store” sometimes generates more sales.
If you have a very unique product(no alternative in the fab store) , youll still see sales on the alternate platforms.
One person reviewing your products can just decide they don’t like you or your product, and that will be it. There’s a huge discrepancy between how the reviewers treat seller submissions each time.
It’s weird cause you would think they have a set of rules or checkboxes to follow… but its just different every time. Depends on who’s handling your case and how they are feeling that day.
The only way to kind of protect yourself is have very unique and very useful products and you can sell on other platforms. Diversify
Yeah that is indeed the case. The benefit of big platforms is always exposure, so it can be very appealing to focus on that only. But the downside is you get absolutely no control of your audience, funnel or any kind of analytics in case of Fab and the old Unreal Marketplace also. None of the people complaining about these raise any of those points, which shows they don't actually understand the root of the problem.
I'm only selling one plugin currently, but I have already been considering implementing some kind of method into the plugin that I can use to get people to sign up for an email list that I control, not Epic.
Yeah the email list idea is very important. I noticed late but i already built one. If i started ealier i would have more, Only started 1.5 years back and its been important to have.
One weird thing about fab/epic is you don't know who bought from you or anyway to communicate with them.
All you see is a sale... I'm sure they have a reason for this ,but they didn't state it anywhere.
Its like a deliberate wall between you and your customers..
Why? i don't know. Maybe they feel sellers will harass buyers with emails... Or maybe its cause if a seller builds a large enough base, they can leave fab with their customers or something...
its one of the things that make me trust it less
Yeah it's kinda hard to tell. There are many platforms that don't really tell you who it was, but not every one of them is like that. It's possible it's an afterthought, or they're trying to limit possible liability with regards to the data being shared with third parties.
Yeah probably its a good reason and not nefarious.
I"ve always seen sellers say people can't use pirated assets when selling their game on steam or something.
they can.
How will you know?
The only way to know is if you have a client list and cross check.
Otherwise its just a game on steam using your assets and you'll never know if that company/user has bought it or just grabbed it from one of the many pirate sites out there.
No one is going to go around blindly accusing any game developer of using pirated assets... its a waste of time.
The protection offered to sellers here is "hope for the best"..
Pretty much yeah
Oh cool i didn’t know this…
So if you have a nice plugin on fab i can make assets/bp extensions of it and sell it as long as i add a disclaimer….
Nice… Some plugins are already cool and just need a little oomph, so you can sell the oomph youve added/created for it
That's neat. I wonder why they don't allow it for Plugins though. I guess it might be that they can't actually build the plugins without all the dependencies to it 🤔
I wonder what does "Both cases" refer to here - Is it suggesting that if your plugin depends on engine plugins, it should mention it on the sales page? Mine requires GAS but it doesn't really "use" it, it's only needed because it supports working with GAS classes if the user wants to use them. Needing to mention the dependency never came up.
yeah im currently dealing with a fab reviewer who’s insisting on this. He(or she) insists i should disable the engine plugin or add a disclaimer.
I’ve never experienced this before or seen plugins around fab.com add such disclaimers. i have other plugins that never had this as a requirement.
it’s inconsistent.
ofcourse i complied and added the disclaimer without arguing and resubmitted and never heard back. Product still pending review.
I could add it to another platform but about 60% customers will ask “hey i like this but why is it not on fab”.
Then you gotta explain or just add a fab version for it…
hopefully they’ll approve the plugins or there’s not much i can do except use other distribution platforms.
Does anyone here know how to read a domain lookup sheet? Epic games told me to send a DMCA to the host provider for that pirate website this is the information godaddy said
WHOIS search results
I looked at it yesterday out of curiosity as it came up, it's hosted in Moldova by some company which literally advertises itself as ignoring DMCA requests. You can tell Epic that and see what they respond. You can find it with f.ex. this https://hostingchecker.com/
The whois result you're seeing is for the domain of the website only, and Namesilo's abuse documentation basically also says "we don't give a shit about what's actually hosted on the website"
https://www.namesilo.com/whois?query=UNREALALL.COM
https://www.privacyguardian.org/
Good luck with that 😛
(unless it's from a court saying so)
It goes both ways in the real world. If I am making game cabinets for a casino and that company demands that I take a pay cut, or if they make massive changes to what I signed up for in the beginning, then I won't make game cabinets for them anymore. I will just leave and setup shop somewhere else, and they can settle for hosting AI generated bool shit from now on.
Nobody is obligated to make content for Fab anymore than Fab is obligated to provide a platform. But providing a high quality platform was the entire premise of Fab in the first place.
Their support(epic) said they forwarded the information I gave to their takedown legal team
Let's hope something comes out of it 🤔 Not sure if I'd hope for much because I'm pretty sure this website has been around for years now
I wonder if a public campaign denouncing that website would do more harm or good. On the one hand, it's free publicity, which we don't want for them. On the other hand, I'm guessing a fair portion of their user base simply don't know those are stolen products, and probably think it's some type of HumbleBundle deal. And if those were made aware of the complete illegality of this website, they might just stop using it. The more people openly complain about something, the more likely action is to be taken. Otherwise, it's like an ongoing not-so-secret which no one can actually deal with.
I'm not a lawyer, but at the very least Epic should be able to send a cease and desist for their use of the "Unreal Engine" trademark all over the website.
Also, creators might want to organize themselves to get more weight against Epic and other marketplaces. It's not like this pirate website is the first and only issue between creators and Epic.
Hi, does somebody got a mail asking to sell them the right to convert a marketplace asset into an NFT? from the looks of the mail it's seems to be a valid gmail..... 🤔
thought that the NFT stuff died quite some time ago as well 🤔 🤔
You would be shocked at how many people lack a moral compass, telling them there are free assets available would be bad for us.
"free assets" that you have to pay for anyway because 80% of them are "vip" which i assume is some form of subscription lol
anyhow, i don't think denouncing will result in much. They can just change the site's identity and continue. This is one of those things that you can't really stop unless you get the guy behind it arrested or demotivate him enough to stop
The only realistic solution to it is getting Epic to actually care enough to send their lawyers after it
they probably will but it might take several months to build a case to get the authorities involved since he is hosting on a provider that bypasses DMCA takedowns. it seems he is based in the EU though so they would have legal authority to arrest him if they were given a solid case for court.
we would never know what happened though
all the assets I clicked on required a "VIP" pass or payment which leads me to believe he doesnt actually have the files, like he has a plugin of mine that didnt sell very well and only released recently so I doubt he actually has the files.
Moldova is not in the EU
his money is using the euro symbol
moldova is where the website hosting is, likely not where he is
That's true
but they can't take the website down unless they get the host to take it down
In theory they might be able to get a court order to have Namesilo cancel their domain registration but that may be a stretch
Since it seems at least somewhat professionally set up to avoid copyright claims, it seems reasonable to assume the owner has taken at least some precautions to not get caught (eg. using stolen credit cards or such to deal with the payment traffic)
more than likely they will jsut find who owns it and report it to the equivelant of the FBI since he is redistrubuting large swathes of assets from fab illegally
which could be possible if enough sellers report it to epic. Now that's just one site. See what happens when you search "unreal engine [asset name] free" on google and go to like page 2 lol
these are the crimes he is committing according to chatgpt
fencing is probably the one they would get him on
Considering piratebay is still around I'm not holding my breath on a kind of niche site like this :D
piratebay is dead, all that's left over there is malware, the owners got arrested iirc
If the guy running it is in russia it's not gonna go anywhere but yeah it's best to just report it to Epic and hope they can do something
It's probably not the place for that discussion but I'll just say it's not quite as you describe lol
the undefeated final boss, Russia lmao
Yep :P A lot of this type of stuff is nowadays ran from there, or from other ex-soviet bloc countries where they can get away with it
its probably why epic games just dont go after them until they get like 100 reports
Lawyers are extremely expensive unfortunately so it's usually a question of whether it's worth to spend that much money on it
“Hope for the best” is the only solution. You can try, they can try(Epic) even with their billions of dollars… pirate websites setup in non us locations and especially where a US judge can’t do much just forget about. you’re not winning that case, the US doesn’t have jurisdiction
Copyright violations are illegal in many jurisdictions, it's just a question of whether you can realistically expect to actually get anything to happen in those places
They may be technically illegal but the police may be entirely uninterested in pursuing them, etc.
nothing happens. There’s no repercussions.
the police in whatever country where the server is, are focused on other types of crimes that are more “physical”.
Its a cold world. Just need to learn to navigate it
im not supporting ANY of it, im just being realistic… these sites need to go i agree. But the US cant do nothing against them. Thats why they are setup in those locations…
another pirated site mentioned from someone who reached out to me for support earlier
uecandy.com
huh, this one's a telegram, which is russian owned
it's a lost cause to try and take that one down. Russia relaxed their copyright laws after they got hit with the US sanctions to where they basically don't care as long as it's not a Russian thing that's being redistributed. As Aubrey said, it sucks but best not to waste our time on a losing battle
Just put verification on your support chats and keep the consumers better informed of scam sites like these
Won't know for sure 'til you try.
I believe the best way epic games can solve this, is the "Verify Order ID" thing needs to have an API.
Then you simply provide an interface/site/page where users can go to on their own and verify their order.
Currently, they have to contact you, then wait for you to respond... the above would speed up the verification.
Then, Once they verify and epic's endpoints show that this is a valid purchase, your site/page should reveal instructions or something to remove one of your safe guards. like a watermark...
It won't stop C++ programmers but most BP developers will just have to get the original product. Or start messing with the c++ code...
It's not perfect but i think its a good attempt at reducing the number of people using these websites
A lot of sellers are not aware their products are in there. and there is a lot of products there "90%Off". The drop in sales could be because people just flocked to these sites after fab release and they just stayed there.
Incentivising legit purchases is the only thing i see working currently
(Creators) Did anyone recieve january earnings last week? I recieved the 12% balance for December but not 88% for January as they mentioned in they're email.
Weird. I got the 12% from Dec, and the 88% from Jan
🤦♂️ Its really clown world over at Fab.
Yep...
They dont even respond
Lets hope things smoothen out this year
Contact support. It's fine with me, I did receive January and the missing % from December
Maybe regular emails dont work any more cause I havent recieved a response to this or any other issue over the last 2 months. I've just opened a ticket on the support site.
We have made 5 support requests for the same issue, they just provided copied responses.(which had no relation with the question of wrong payout). But looks like it's a widespread issue so I assume they will make it right.
fab doesnt respond to emails, you need to file a support ticket throught their support request forum
if you are emailing them you will never hear back because its likely going to a dead inbox
yeah I got the full amount
I only received the 12%, I was going to complain at the end of February if I didn't get January's payment. I figured I missed a memo and I wasn't planning on getting it any sooner anyway
To me they said I should way a couple more days and they will pay the missing 88% to everyone who didnt get it yet
is there sales near for fab? like winter etc. i miss it the Christmas sale 😦
Yeah after Valentine’s Day there will be one but not every product will be on sale
yo so why epic gave me x.99 and then x.03 for the same product 1 week difference
Ugh I emailed fab about making a zip download of my plugins for downloading from the web and they told me no I can’t do that. Plugin files need to be distributed through the launcher, you can’t even do that as an alternative
yeah its so weird all the unreal plugins needs to be downloaded through either the launcher
like what if you know cpp, you're on 5.4 or something and want to download a plugin that hasn't been updated since 5.0 because you can port it yourself. You either reinstall 5.0 or use the third party vault program that's been shared here a couple of times.
It's very inconvenient
wanna ask when they pay january earnings ?
Any given months earnings are paid out on the last day of the following month
So in this case, end of February
Epic is a Net30 company. Meaning they pay out/pay invoices within 30 days of the invoice date. Pretty standard practice, though some companies are Net60 and I’ve even had a few clients who were Net90, those are the super annoying ones.
You'd be surprised how some big corporations can even be "NetNeverUnlessYouKeepPesteringUs". Not gonna name any names but... lol
bit of a random question, does anyone by chance recognise what plants these are? Pretty sure they're from quixel but can't track them down
(screenshot is from a YT video not my own project)
Try doing a Google image search of the thumbnail.
What's it like selling plugins these days? Since the new marketplace was created I mean
Slow outside sales for me.
Not really any discoverability in the new one
Not great unless you form and control the sales funnel.
Go to Fab.com right now and try to see if any new products or sellers are automatically promoted.
What you'll notice is a few features sellers, then next on the category pages, by default "By Relevance" is the same as "By Rating"...
Let's assume you're new and just got a product in there... yeah people will only see your product by chance unless you do your own marketing and other stuff outside fab.
Sounds pretty awful...
@loud dome @fossil dune what does marketing even entail when it comes to plugins? Do you directly contact developers or do self promotion in unreal/game dev related communities?
Not making it up ... just open https://www.fab.com/ and just pretend to yourself that you're a potential buyer and you're really just looking to see whats available. Try to keep an eye out for "New" sellers or products without using the filters... non of the sections account for them..
Oh, I also don't know how featured sellers are chosen or the criteria... but they enjoy the featured area/real estate for some time
I also read there's a lot of AI stuff these days and it's hard to filter it out. I read on reddit some people would used to go by date of creation to get stuff from before AI trash spam, but FAB reset the dates lol?
For MeshPack mostly word of mouth. Could probably try marketing it more. 😅
Basically Fab is great if you're featured or getting real estate or appearing first. If you're new, its kind of terrible, once your product is known or something( i don't know what criteria they use), they give it more visibility. So its great for others and not so great for others, just got to learn to survive and wait your turn i believe
Would you recommend getting into plugins for a little bit of passive income/making parts of your game into plugins to sell?
Sounds like a lot of marketplaces
Yes , but like i said above you're not guaranteed a sale
yea
recommend yes, will you surely make money? its a hit and miss
Is there a way of guessing how lucrative a plugin was? Say by amount of reviews or something?
(not like I'm after the big bucks or anything, just curious about marketplace and people making plugins)
Not really, fab carried reviews over from the original marketplace.
A lot of sellers were using reviews to "Verify" buyers.
So if you bought my asset, and come to my discord and ask for help i would say go make a review so that i know you actually bought it.
So the reviews were kind of coerced. If i gave you 1 star would you really give the help...
There's other plugins with little to no reviews selling pretty much every day
Okay I see
Basically you can't really know but you can guess for some items. some its not so obvious.
unless you ask the seller
Yea makes sense, thanks dude 🙂
I'm a programmer, so for me it would just be code plugins. There the range of how much effort something costs vs how well it sells seems very wide (would be my guess)
btw your project looks really cool!
it was good in november and december but its gotten really bad. I think people are tired of buying stuff at full price for 5 months now.
other than the 2 event sales everything has been full price for 5 months now and with the average price of an asset being like 30-50 dollars people just are not buying much
what kind of plugin? it's definitely possible to distribute UE plugins outside fab/launcher, I'm doing it currently and I know of several other significant UE plugins that also do (but not by putting it in the marketplace and then downloading a zip or something like that...packaging it myself)
Who are we supposed to contact if a package is in your library but has no store page/won't download? Or is it just accepted that some stuff doesn't exist now?
So I was featured 3 times already but that had not influx on sales :/
Not having detailed reviews is destroying my interest in buying from fab even though I need some assets as my game transitions to alpha. I don't understand what epic is doing.
for things that haven't been ported ( i have a few) they're saying to download directly from your vault
Fab has been utterly horrible for me so far. I accidentally spent over $50.00 on an asset which i thought was something else because it had an identical name and can't be refunded. I hate fab so much. Quixel is gone, forcing you to update to 5.4 if you want the FAB plugin
Not having reviews has killed it, can't wishlist, full of AI and copyrighted slop, scrolling for ages on things priced ridiculously to find something simple and sifting through blender and unity assets. What a cruel money grabbing bend-over yet again just trying to squeeze as much as they can out of everyone. Sorry i'm so pissed rn.
Damn thats crazy… how/why did you get featured?
I don’t know 🙂 I was just there. Maybe you was also because you don’t get notified
Hey, are there any indicators for when/if we will get proper reviews back in the Marketplace?
I have bought 2-3 packs from the store, and even though they had 4+ stars they all were underwhelming (at best).
I really cannot believe that Fab was released without a proper text review system...Just horrible...
Sorry for being negative it's just after a few consecutive blunders with my recent buys I had to raise this issue.
It was in their plan iirc
It is indeed on the roadmap, but pretty far down the line. Based on their initial schedule, it would mean Q2 of this year I think? But at this point everyone should know that anything regarding Fab is "subject to changes".
Thank you for the response. Hoe they stick to it.
It would be awesome to have some place to properly request this feature
I'm very curious to know what you find underwhelming? Usually people are quite quick to say if something is misleading by leaving 1 star reviews and such. It's fine to not be impressed by an asset pack of sorts but usually it's pretty easy to see how they look beforehand. Heck I've had one star reviews because the person who bought my asset didn't even so much as read the product description and thought they were buying something entirely different
Text reviews will absolutely go a long way to help. Can't wait to get them back, especially the questions section. But man even the text reviews sometimes are completely ridiculous. Like they'll just say "Doesnt work" with no elaboration. Or "not what I expected" despite there being video tutorials, clear documentation, showcasing of everything available before purchase
From my experience, I don't talk about the obviously misleading descriptions or utter lies. The things I refer to are packs that are in the 2-4 star range' or 5 star items with 1-2 reviews.
For example, I've bought animations which had great videos, 4/5 stars, and some minimal descriptions. But they didn't show any technical details that were crucial to our project so we had to do a lot of changes to the animations.
These details cannot be inferred from 1-5 stars. Also, I don't think it is fair for me to give 1 star to a pack that for someone else might have being enough/okay. I would have left a review of "good overall, but missing details made me think this is a good fit for us but in the end it wasn't <add details of expectation vs reality>. 3/5".
Another huge huge one - in Epic's store many plugins reviews had mentions of whether the developer is responsive and what kind of support they provide. Now, there is no way to know (yes, yes if you think about it more, if there is a link to discord then you can get a hint of how good/bad the support is but still it is a bad experience in my eyes).
I’m taking a break from releasing new fab assets until sales get better in the platform. I’ve only made 69 dollars this month and it’s halfway over. That’s the lowest I’ve ever been at and I used to do much much better every single month
I don’t sell on Fab, and I can’t really speak for others. But I only buy stuff when it’s on sale, so I just show up and see if there’s a sale. If not I grab any new free stuff, and move on. I will wait. If Fab doesn’t implement sales, I simply take my money elsewhere.
As for the Fab market as a whole, it’s a complete negative from a buyer’s perspective. No written reviews, poor organization, a bunch of non-UE stuff that I have no interest in. Weird double licensing options that are the exact reason I didn’t support Artstation. AI garbage everywhere, etc.
Honestly, I struggle to name a single positive about Fab. If anything I’d say it’s like a legacy unsupported system that got replaced by the UE Marketplace. Except then they decided to drop the newer better system, and readopt the broken old one.
0/10 service. I’ve only bought anything on Fab during the Black Friday Sale, and I suspect I’m just saving all my purchases there until the next one since they don’t really do sales.
Just a buyer’s perspective, carry on. 😅
What do you mean by they don’t really do sales? There have been sales just about every month since november
What’s your fab store link?
im not looking for a critique
thats one theory I had since sales were good during the start and having been drying up since the end of december increasingly
Not true at all, I check all the time... Here as you can see all that is "on sale" is the 3 free for the two week items. It's been like this for months. I've only ever seen two real sales on Fab.
I have a wishlist of stuff for Fab (that I keep in a Google Doc because Fab sucks and can’t implement a wishlist). So I’ve been waiting, however the prices are well beyond what they are worth. In a lot of cases I have actually reworked my game to simply not need the assets due to Fab’s incredibly awful timeline for sales.
I said just about every month, there was one in november, one at the end of december, january was the first month without a sale.
The very first sale was in November, and yes there was one in December. That's the two sales we've been talking about. Fab has missed sales every other month since it's inception.
Feel free to critique mine 😄
(in bio)
Though I must say my sales are better than for most but its way more random now on fab
Last few days no sales. Before that record breaking sales. Before that no sales...
Hehe I wasnt looking to critique, was just curious as Blox has «check out my fab store» in his profile, but no link
Ahh. Love your Rain asset btw
Thanks ☺️
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say? Fab has missed sales every other month? Not trying to be pedantic, genuinely misunderstanding what you mean by this ☺️
I think he is specifically talking about personal sales? (So self initiated seller discounts) But nor sure.
I said in my post that I’ve only ever seen two real sales on Fab, you responded “just about every month” and I pointed out the two sales to show you were incorrect. Weirdly you also pointed out the two sales to show you were incorrect as well. So I’m mostly just confused at why you basically agreed with me but don’t know what I’m trying to say. 😅
3 months have passed since november, that’s 2 sales in 3 months, hence why I said just about every month, not every month
If you're talking to me, I literally stated I'm a buyer and not a seller on there. I was just going over why I'm not buying at the moment and how I see Fab from a buyer's perspective.
Ahh, my bad.
But still you want sellers to create their own sales, right? So you can browse for things on sale again like on the UEM
Fab started in October with no sale. And the two sales it had were extremely short and on few products. We're in February now.... So no sales in 2/4 months, excluding Feb which they can still have a sale in I guess.
I just want products to be on sale, I don't care how we reach that point. I'm just a buyer, you guys can handle the backend stuff. 😂
You cant blame Fab though for not having much products in sale. For Black Friday every seller was able to put every product with up to 70% in sale but for some reasons a bunch of sellers didn't
I’m just a buyer, I don’t know the backend stuff. I suspect most buyers don’t. We just see all the problems Fab has, and how it’s not a very good experience by comparison to what it replaced, and hold it against Fab.
Is that wrong? Could be. 😅 Is that what happens? Yep. 🤓
Well, I need to give you a point that the Fab team could have communicated things better with the sellers and the customers, especially in 2024. Currently it is good but only if you regularly check the Forums
I might be a time traveler as I feel strongly that this month there will be another sale + we are getting wishlists back. 😉
Thats just my feeling though 😉
That’s the thing, I really only end up at the forums if I have a particularly annoying packaging bug. I check this Discord infrequently at best. Most people browsing the Fab market likely don’t look at them. It would definitely be nice if Epic just put articles on their launcher more often updating us about the state of Fab. Or even better, how about links directly on Fab itself? 😮
I sooooo hope this is correct. Fab seems so interested in me saving all my money it's kind of crazy. 😅
I must say I also have a bunch of things on my wishlist that I will buy in next sale.
Wishlist meaning I screenshotted them
I think a lot of people have some wishlist workaround full of stuff they're just waiting to buy. It just blows my mind that they left out basic market functionality and have the nerve to talk about anything besides adding it. 😮
I guess their road map has it marked as "In Progress" so that's at least something. https://dev.epicgames.com/community/fab/roadmap
They said it will come this month, Pretty much everything market as "In Progress" should come this month
Huh, well that would be fantastic. If they drop in wishlists, have regular sales, add back text reviews, and find some way so I can super glue a checkmark on the “Hide products created with AI”... I’d be largely happy with the site. 🤓
You can read about the latest info here.
Thanks! Though they really could have saved a whole lot of trouble (and had a much better marketplace) if they just took the old market and added a tab for “Garbage that people using UE don’t care about” and put all the non-UE stuff in it. 😏
Personally, I like also having 3d models now. Its very useful when you need something specific for a specific type of game/mechanic. Though they really need to enforce sellers to correctly use the ai tag or else they should get banned
Yeah, but I could also just have gone to “Sketchy” Fab er… coughs… Sketchfab if I wanted models of questionable legality, or made with AI… Which is actually why I don’t really go there. I’ve already been hit by illegal products sold on the old UE marketplace twice. And once on Fab (but hey it was free so whatever). So inviting all that to Fab didn’t seem like much of a win to me. But if they actually police it, and as you said enforce the AI tag it might be okay. Could have just as easily added a section for it to the old marketplace though.
The old marketplace also wasnt that great though. Just think about search. You werent even able to select a category when searching for something. You had to rely on tags but they were misused by so many sellers
Or square thumbnails was also worse in my opinion
It's true, I'm not saying it was perfect. Just that it outranks the current state of Fab is just about every way that mattered. Sure eventually Fab might be better, I mean I sincerely hope that it is. But throwing away an entire market to have to get back to the same level as the previous one is just weird. At least to me.
I think the Fab team was pushed to release it before 2025 by the CEOs
I could see that. Whatever happened behind the scenes there, clearly it was a catastrophe. It being pushed out ahead of schedule would make sense. 🤔
Really the most interesting thing I’m seeing now is the number of Humble Bundles that include UE stuff but it’s now on other marketplaces. It used to be that it would pretty much always be the UE marketplace for the redeems. But the last two I ended up buying were on the Laertes website (well okay a viewer bought it for me), and Gamedevmarket.
Fab’s really late to the party, and it’s probably due to the lack of sales. But while it drags itself along, places are exposing buyers like me to other markets. I know I wasn’t ever going to really spend a lot of time looking at those markets until I got assets on them from the bundles. 🤔
Not the CEO, Tim said this is a long term business plan for UEFN and UE6 so I don’t think he was the one who called the rush. My guess is it’s that guy in charge of store fronts at epic
So wishlists are supposed to come this month with email lists added later and the “hide ai products” will be moved to a account setting so it persists across your account rather than being a search filter you need to apply.
Hopefully they prioritize the written reviews/community features and personal sales over high res screenshots and other unimportant stuff
I asked one of the staff members about when seller initiated discounts will come and she said “it’s being worked on but no ETA” so probably another 2-4 months before we get that sadly. Until then I think sales will be very poor for us
I’ll be stoked to not need a Google doc, and having to click that silly button every time. And I wholeheartedly agree about the reviews as well. Really if you want to sell me on a product, make a YouTube demonstration video. Some screenshots (high res or not) were unlikely to sell me on it anyways. But I did look through written reviews on stuff, especially to see if the “5 star” reviews were just Discord approvals.
I wish they prioritized reviews higher than some of the items. Do people really want horizontal search features more than reviews?
💀
My theory is that sales are not doing very good for the platform due to the issues people have but they think that if they just add more search features it will get better
does the search feel better for anyone's assets recently ? My plugin is showing up first when I type the relevant keywords, so that's feeling great.
I’m not entirely sure its a matter of priority, they know it is one. It is likely more to do with the estimated time it takes for it to go live, some features are quicker to develop/release than others. It’s unfortunately not the kind of thing you can just double the devs working on it to release it two times faster.
looks like they are trying to integrate fab right into the editor for 5.6
maaaaybe that'll help
More than the current plugin is?
The integrate Fab with editor concept is kinda curious. It feels like their idea is that you could easily go there and find some asset you need for your project and just get it
On paper it makes sense, that would be handy... but in practice? With the pricing that most assets have? I'm not so sure.
It feels like it makes more sense in a Megascans type model, but I don't know if that's really what you get with Fab, plus the quality is not as reliable as it is with Quixel
Im not sure i understand, fab already is directly in engine with the plugin.
Fab is unlucky, they launched in a terrible state. Unreal Engine is indexed by ChatGPT and other A.I, simple code plugins are not going to sell no more, people will just ask chatgpt.
Assets , the 3D AI mesh generator keep getting better.
I remember about a year a two ago when i said Ai/chatgpt is going to take over and is pretty good at unreal. Those who disagreed and said i was crazy are using it daily…
AI is disruptive, you get with it or die. Also getting with it doesn’t mean you’re safe, just that youve accepted reality, its a new world in programming, no knowledge gate keeping anymore
Ehh, have you ever asked it to solve a blueprints question? I think you wildly overestimate the competency of the average user, most dont even know what a compiler is let alone asking ai to make their own plugin that requires updating and managing. Not saying its never gonna happen but it is not there yet.
When you ask ChatGpt about unreal stuff it is most of the time totally wrong or suggests things that don’t exist
I really don't know what kind of problems people are solving with AI if they claim it's good for unreal
It has certainly improved... but it sure isn't capable of solving most problems I've tried to solve using it. It can direct me towards solutions occasionally, but that's about it
For basic stuff it answers questions well enough, But expecting ai to create a plugin for you is unrealistic in its current state
Yeah it's extremely far from that currently
Many engine source files are even too large for them to process as context for your questions
Don’t get me wrong. It is amazing for code. But that still requires you to know at least a few basics of programming which the average person does not have
Proper Ai in Unreal Engine is closer than you think
Define proper ai
Ai that can generate blueprints and help you with annoying & repetitive tasks
Looking forward to seeing that
You can on my channel (linked in bio)
😄
Another video will drop soon in which I go over more, even crazier things the ai can do
The problems I try to solve with AI must be just too hard because I don't have that kind of luck
I'm working on systems currently where there's like blocks of animation in a timeline, and these must be scaled in different ways based on the user selection (eg. 1 vs multi), and a few other fun complications
Yeah I saw that video! I'm imaging Cursor-like tools in engine. Definitely helps to understand the basics of development, but it can be a huge time saver and boost productivity when done right.
I've tried AI on a few adjacent problems with this system and it really does not understand anything lol
The most helpful it was in flipping a math formula I was using around because I forgot what was the correct approach for doing it
I cant wait to release the next video 🙂
Super cool!
Thank you 🙂
I am going off the fact it says it is not a "work in progress". If it just takes longer that's fine why it would be one of the last developed features, but based on the road map status it is currently not being worked on. All I am saying is I wished it was worked on. Whether that involves moving existing staff from working on the less important features or hiring new staff (which I know isn't always the solution). I feel like they could benefit from hiring a few more moderators for Fab's content though. It doesn't take too much training to identify copyright infringed assets or pirated ones that should be taken down. But that's a bit of a tangent from my initial frustration
Ive rarely asked it to solve a blueprint question. That’s a terrible way to use it.
- It understands code, sometimes too well.
- it can make you aware of classes and functions you didn’t even know existed.
- Some of the gatekept information that was only on UDN or something is freely in there.
- It works farely well if you’ve attempted something on your own and give it context.
Will it build a plugin for you? Not now, but it’s capable of building a simple one and explaining the concepts of it etc.
A year or 2 back it was terrible for any type of structured work.
It’s x10 better now.
Do i like that it’s capable of all this, no not really since it clearly stole data, including mine… doesnt mean im going to say its garbage or not acknowledge its capabilities.
That thing is incredible, feel like i work 50% faster than i would/did without it. incredible…
I can assure you it is actively being worked on, from people I know are working on it.
What are you asking from it if it's that much of a boost? For me it's basically just a fancy google search which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, rarely does it do much else.
I think he is referring to actually writing code for you. In which case I agree, it's extremely good.
Hard to say. It takes me longer to formulate what I want it to write than for me to write it myself usually lol
But this requires you to have at least some foundational understanding of what you're trying to achieve. I've had it write up some python for me /mayascript tools and it was wild how good it was
Right.. I've tried to use it to make some build scripts for stuff I had never used and while it was certainly helpful there in the beginning, it didn't ultimately manage to make it do what I wanted and I had to learn to do it myself
Having 20 years of experience in programming I think the problem for me with these tools is that problems that stump me tend to be problems that are just.. kind of hard in general lol
Like it's all fine and cool that a tool can write a blueprint function for you, but I'd argue that a vast majority of UE users don't know what a function even is. Actual developers will of course.
I've been meaning to learn some stuff for FPGA code which is something I've never done, maybe I'll try AI tools with that and see how that helps
As someone with basically no coding experience whatsoever, I'm not a programmer and never was, I would need a tool that not only creates functions and tools for me, but also explains what it is doing and why. Because a lot of the times I don't know what I don't know. And I'm not alone. It would be rather difficult for me to develop a complex plugin even with AI because I don't know what I'm missing. I'm sure i could get there eventually but yeah
RE: "I would need a tool that not only creates functions and tools for me, but also explains what it is doing and why. "
But that's exactly what it does and it does it really well without judging you like "Google Bro" , "no one is going to hand hold you"... hell you can even ask it to tone it down and "Explain it like im 5" or "15"
hmm to think about it, its been a while since i've seen someone tell a beginner to "just google bro"...
This server used to be extremelly hostile to complete beginners...
I don't think its not anymore, its just beginners now have somewhere to go without being made to feel like they are stupid or something
Fair enough, my only source was the roadmap they released but if you know people, I'll take your word
They're doing what they can 🙂 They absolutely know what state fab has been in, they're aware haha
Yeah it definitely seems like AI tooling has more value for those with less experience because they can explain things in various ways and can more or less generate infinite examples
omg its you, love your videos man, theyre awesome :D
does anyone knows what DCC here means exactly?
DCC=Digital Content Creation
Pretty interesting…
Question: how do I know if my asset (which has blueprint code) will work in multiple engine versions? Do I have to install each version of Unreal just to find out if my stuff works?
Personally I test on every version and compile/build before shipping anything
Damn. So I'm going to need a ton more hard drive space?
At the very least, test your product on the earliest version you support and the latest version you support. If something doesn't work in the latest version then you will definitely need to backtrack and verify the other versions
Do people use UE4 anymore, do you recommend that I add support for that as well?
It's a bit subjective if it is worth it. If you do support it, I recommend limiting support to 4.27 since that is where the vast majority of ue4 users are. It really depends on the asset being sold and how long the conversion process takes if it is worth it
Personally no.
If you built in 5.2 it should open in 5.4 but i don't really know how much the 2 engines should differ in terms of versioning and i believe it various since there's bug fixes and all
I don't think a lot of people are using <5 at this time, especially on fab. companies maybe.. but doubt its a lot of people
Epic never really deletes blueprint functions and if they do they give you like 6 engine versions of it being marked as “deprecated” before they do it.
Going from UE4 to UE5 might break stuff but UE5.3 to 5.5 shouldn’t break anything in blueprint code.
As far as I can tell only VR devs use ue4 still due to a little extra performance it had(though with 5.5 it’s negligible)
Thanks guys.
Would be cool if Epic did a survey, would like to see this based on more than 198 votes
I wouldn't be surprised if it was mostly big companies that are trapped with UE4 then. Iirc, there's this diablo styled MMO that is made in UE3. And then there's Riot Games who mentioned that Valorant is still made in UE4, but they'll finally be upgrading to UE5 because they've already pushed UE4 to its limit.
You should check out the new Grok if you havent yet. Im in the same boat as you, not an expert coder by any stretch, and it has already taught me so much. Normally I can read and understand what code is doing, but writing it from scratch thats where the syntax holds me back at times. I work heavily in powershell for my day job and just started using grok a few weeks ago, rather than bouncing random questions off my teammates or playing google roulette all the time, i just ask grok. So far its handled everything ive thrown at it and the responses from it have been nothing short of phenominal. Ive even thrown a bunch of UE questions at it and it's been great. Its free and you dont even need an X account if you use the ipad grok app.
Grok can do code? I thought it was just a alternative to google for learning information in a non censored way
Yep, and quite well from the things ive thrown at it. In addition to giving actual code it breaks it all down and explains the 'why' about it too
That’s good to know, do you use the X website for it or something else?
I use it on the website, X app on android, and standalone Grok app on ipad, just depends what i need it for.
Abby posted on the forums that they added “semantic search” to the roadmap for fab, does anyone know what that term means and how it differs from current search?
Hi - Where do I find the 2024 tax info for publishers?
They only send it out if you make 20k or more I think. Just report your income
Yes I know. But I wish they sent a document saying that in case I didn't miss it. Thanks.
I had that problem last year. I got the irs form this year and I made less than 10k. A lot of the info is publicly available, but if you need the merchant code or something I can share that
Semantic search ususally refers to a search that understands sentences and broader terms. THe opposite would be lexical search I think it’s called, which means it searches for literal word for word matches. Semantic search will be way way way better
That's not correct. People are in ue4 for various reasons related to production needs or limitations. It's important not to project opinions about other people's development environments based on guesses.
Regarding ue4 support most ue4 devs don't expect backwards compatibility for new releases and for older releases it's not expected earlier than 4.27 especially due to its ue4 big fixes (there's a really bad struct bug that 4.26 fixed)
Hopefully you are right, search is alright now but if they can improve it that would be good. Does semantic search share the same issues as fuzzy search?
Does anyone know how some people create External Link only FAB pages? Like View on External website thingy.

I think on the Marketplace you had to reach out to the team. I'm guessing it would be the same thing with Fab, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
I'm currently searching for a Sci-Fi pack. We'll I'm looking for a wire model actually that's from an asset pack
I have images of the pipe and the texture and I was wondering if anyone recognises the pipe model
Well it's a cable
But still
It just looks like a pipe asset with a metal texture added.
Said it before and will say it again: Going through an approval process in which someone is testing an asset when all you've changed is the store page is wasteful and not user friendly.
In Unreal Marketplace, you use to be able to submit and deploy instantly minor changes to the store page. Now with Fab they require approval and based on feedback I've gotten during that process, they are clearly re-reviewing the asset even though it has not been updated.
Not only that. But if you didn't change the URL to the asset they will review the old asset again..
Yes, it’s a complete waste of resources and slows everything down.
Hi, how do i download the quixel environement templates ?
It says I have them but they don't show up in the Vault
Did you updated library ?
Yeah I tried but no changes
Try relaunch epic games than
Dont worry. I also dont see this sample. This is problem of Epic and not ours.
nice to know. I have so many problems with FAB atm i'm just tired
This only time i found out there is problem with FAB.
Usually when I make changes to the price, tags, assets, or description they don’t test the asset files. I’ve never had them do that
any idea when next sales might be?
I’d say it happens about 25-50% of the time and there’s a 1/4 chance they’ll fail the update for some random thing that has been in the asset forever.
Best part is you just literally submit it again with no changes and it’ll pass 🤷♀️
That’s weird, I guess I have not made changes enough times to get those odds. I think fab outsources reviews
Tuesday
I’m really surprised they didn’t release the wishlists before the February sale
They took seller analytics off the roadmap again, I really hope they don’t abandon that
I just wish they'd improve searching and bring back questions 🤷♂️
I started putting notes into every version - if I'm just changing the page I put "Date: No Changes, just Fab Page changes", otherwise if I've updated the files I put "Date: Updated to Version X".
Search has gotten a lot better throughout this month but yeah from what I have read from customers they miss the community aspect of the marketplace. Community features are on the roadmap but it likely won’t be until may or June that we get them.
In January search just didn’t work at all, it was horrible but as of yesterday it seemed to have gotten much much better
arhh did the script claim all on quixel back in oct, but have nothing quixel on my fab account library did all that hassle not work for keeping quixel in the end? See a whole lot of shaders that are gunna cost me $1-10 now :/
You had to claim it both on Quixel and on Fab. If you claimed it on Quixel you now have access to all the old legacy megascans. If you claimed it on Fab you have access through Fab. Also the Fab ones are updated and better in certain ways.
I uploaded a video once which I nowadays have set to private. I told people they need to claim both and people hated me so much for spreading misinformation and having a clickbait title.... And now everyone is wondering...
Ahhh man, rough, that sucks. Getting caught in the old bait and switch does make a guy feel like a twit.
i’m not familiar with fuzzy search tbh
When I try to add something off FAB into my Launcher it won't appear.
All of a sudden Fab "couldn't" validate my address on my trader info (after it has been valid since Fab launched), and is now restricting me from distributing in the EU until they have sent me an email with further instructions over the next few days. Just before the Feb promo. Never a dull moment with Fab
Did you file a support ticket? I always get a response same day with those if I file it during the daytime
I just filed one yea. hopefully they're able to assist with this before tmrw fingers crossed
It may be a automated system bug that they can override
Yeah hopefully so, that sucks I’m sorry that happened.
Fab ✨
Is there any way to easily import quixel assets into unreal now? It’s such a pain to have to manually download, import, make a material, etc. for everything individually
Cuz quixel assets don’t show up in the library in the epic launcher like normal packs or assets do
And bridge just redirects you to fab now instead
Have you updated the bridge plugin?
Every time I open bridge it says it needs an update, so I go to the epic launcher and go to the plugins for the version I’m on and it says there’s no update
Is there somewhere else I need to update it? Because that’s where it’s always been
I remember having an issue with the update, I think I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling
Reinstalling the engine?
Just the plugin
@wheat mural now its showing me this even tho i obviously have wifi atm
nvm everything just appeared right after i sent that
damn
it still just replaced the download & add to project buttons with "get it on fab" where i have to do everything manually
also, in engine if i go to window -> fab, its just a blank screen
ive restarted twice
idk what to do, fab just sucks bro
its a good idea on paper but barely anything relating to it works
Well, I thought I'd used bridge since they brought the plugin back but I guess I hadn't. And yeah, Fab was released way too early. It's barely even worth a beta right now
Wait. Is there talk about bridge staying?
I acquired everything from bridge and not from fab and now I am so frustrated I loose access to all tens of thousands of assets :/
If you weren't using them I wouldn't worry about it
Does the February Sale start today?
Guys quick question, didn't there used to be a channel where you could showcase your fab projects? Has it gone or in just being blind?
Yes, it's active right now
I guess I was impatient 😁
Sale is here 🔥
Wasn't all publishers that "submitted" included in the sale?
This is new
None of mine appears to be in on it, even though I submitted it the first day the email came. Has worked perfectly in the past..
Have you changed your prices recently?
what does this mean?
The seller isnt a trader and thus isnt allowed to sell in the EU.
what is the difference between seller and a trader?
Yeah, about 3 weeks ago. Increased it since I launched a big update.
But not my other product for example
A trader has additional information about himself or his company on his seller page.
ohh ok i see 🙂
If you changed the prices of a product that should be in sale now in the last 30 days it isnt eligble for a sale anymore due to EU laws
Suspected that.
But it shouldn't apply to all products though?
What do you mean
I've only changed one products price this year, haven't touched the others, so they should be included in the sale.
Yes. If that is the case make sure to reach out to support
Will try that.
Thank you Nikolas 👍
Did you get the invite to the sale though? You had to register/apply a month or so ago
Sure did!
Anyone know why I wasnt included in the sale? I applied for 2 of my assets to go on sale however only one went on sale????
Is it just on my side, or do no sellers on fab have their trader badge on their profile?
It was removed for everyone. Now it only shows trader information in the about section of a seller page
Ohhh, mann I liked those little trader badges
New tags and stuff will be released soon. You can already now prepare your products for the new changes. So check out the new tags and see if there is something which your product applies to
Also, "Please note that if any of your listings are currently on sale, updating the tags should not affect their eligibility for the sale. ". But I personally dont trust that
Finally we got "Blueprints" back for Unreal Engine
Is there anywhere online that talks about the new tags and such?
Yeah in the forums under fab under publisher portal. I don’t have a link. Am on the phone now
All good thanks <3
Also you must be a seller to see it
My asset is on sale but does not show up in any list of things on sale
Should show up on https://www.fab.com/category/vfx?is_discounted=1&ui_filter_is_discounted=1 -- and there's only a few dozen items -- but nope, not there
if i search for it by name or keyword, it shows up, but otherwise, nope
and yes i'm in an incognito tab, logged out
I remember seeing a forum post Abby made about only EU users seeing them now. If you are outside the EU trader information is hidden
I see it on sale in search
it shows up if you plug in the name
or any of the keywords
but does not show up otherwise
Test 1: Open the "Everything on sale" link from the Fab homepage: https://www.fab.com/search?is_discounted=1&ui_filter_is_discounted=1 -> Page Down all the way to the end -> ctrl+f "pitch" -> No results
Test 2: Same thing, but click the "VFX" category" -> Page down to the end (it's a pretty short list) -> ctrl+f "pitch" -> No results
Test 3: Same thing, but add "pitch" to your search -> It shows up
thanks. sitting here working on my next one wondering how much i can trust fab to surface it fairly
stuff like these is what I want to discover but search function is so so bad, I always just find trash implementations of FPS shooter mega back replicated (horribly) with 500 guns made already! All in spaghetti blueprint!
maybe try advertising outside
Thanks. I've done a number of things but the evidence suggests most people discover it organically, not through my content (which has done well on Reddit), which suggests a lot of that is through Marketplace/Fab discovery. There's always more I can do on my end, but it's important for Fab to include it when people are searching relevant categories!
Feeling a bit down because I did a lot of R&D last year and now as I start to bring more to market, I don't trust the market
for Fab I just try to plug in as many key words of the things I try to look for
Yes, there are keywords that appear to turn it up reasonably well when searched
But not showing up in "all VFX on sale" is a bummer. It's not that long a list!
pitch is a unique word, so thats good, but if I only search dark, seems to be flooded, unless I search in vfx specifically
darkness works though
fab needs some kind of thesaurus system
Yay, a Fab sale! 🥳 Now to see if anything in my wishlist doc is actually on sale this month. 😅
Do you mind sharing your wishlist with me? I kinda wanna see what other people want 😄
nooo but i just bought some which are 50% off recently 😔
It’s mostly Steampunk and toy things for my current project, so I don’t know if I’m really indicative of the market as a whole. 😅 But sure! 🤓

Not going to lie, I basically will search for Steampunk, dolls and toys periodically to add to it. But yeah it's pretty specific, and I doubt I'll be starting a new project any time soon. I'm slated on this one for another year and a half or so.
Honestly though, if you want my advice for what you lot should be making… I’d suggest going to the various UE Indie discords, and looking at the work in progress projects. Those are the devs who are most likely to need assets in the near future. 😉
On a semi related note, Fab's search is quite terrible. Please name your products as something somewhat unique. All too often I copy and paste the literal name of the product into Fab’s search from my Wishlist doc and it doesn’t show up. Or if it does, it’s completely buried. I’ve lost more than a few products that way. Typically if I can’t find it in 5+ minutes of scrolling, I just assume it’s been removed from the market and take it off my wishlist. 😅
Have you tried recently? They just released search updates this month and titles have more weight. I’ve never searched a title and not been given it unless the title is “oak tree” or “rock”
the search is even worse now for my searches
Yep. I would actually call the search significantly worse than before, as I actually removed a fair number of items off the list when I couldn’t find them. When the day started my wishlist was over 30 items… Now it’s down to 16. (I’ve removed more since I posted it).
Granted a handful of stuff that when I thought about it, I just no longer need…Or it has gone too long since they were on sale, that I found a replacement. Still I’d say I lost at least 10 items on my original wishlist to being unable to find them with a direct title search.
whats an example, I want to test this because its much better for me
Nice. I looked trough all of them 🙂 I found all but not "Whale submarine". This one sounds very interesting for me though. Do you have a link to that one?
he is probably thinking of this from avatar
there was also this from the old atlantis movie
Ahh okay. I actually been searching for a submarine with an interior. That's why I am interested in this. These 2 options are the only ones I found but one of them has no interior and the other doesnt look realistic enough https://www.fab.com/listings/00d205e5-3fba-4f7a-8202-4a6a1d1e8969 https://www.fab.com/listings/f9a0e6a3-c2b1-41f0-970b-c552de2f6f7c
Inspired by the fantastic work of Rob Cobb on the film Abyss, I have constructed this submarine.

you could always do a bethesda and make it a seperate level with a loading screen
that was a joke dont do that
Model of a military submarine, modeled and textured in Blender, midpoly, can be used as a game asset.😊 If you like this model and found it useful please consider dropping a follow on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/helindu.art
you could use that one if you need a miliatry submarine and fill it with props in a blueprint
Yeah i need something yellow and expedition like
Filling it with props myself is a good idea
Probably will go with this one and fill it with a seat and steering wheel somehow until there is a better model available
Also tried to check artstation but the results are pretty bad and unrelated to what I want
Well actually I just found something perfect but no idea how to buy on artstation
Dang, art station has some quality stuff
Sadly no, it was a clockwork whale submarine. As for finding almost all of the stuff, yeah that’s because I was actually through most of the list before posting it, so I already removed most of the offenders.
Ahh okay. No problem! Thank you for sharing your list 😄
I also didn't see the Mechanical Squid show up from that list. I believe it was made by the same person, so maybe their stuff got removed from the market. 🤔
Could be
You know I completely forgot about Artstation. I recall not using them due to their weird licensing stuff. But I mean now that Fab has that same kind of thing... Hmm... 😅
I saved a bunch of assets there in the past 10 mintues. I will wait until they migrate over to Fab though 🙂
That.... could be a very long wait. 😅
No idea where to buy things. There is no buy button
Got to go to the shop section (it's a button near the top right of the page). From there it acts like a normal store.
I just found that 😄
But it looks like the things I want arent available to purchase 😭
Haha yeah, I hate that about Artstation. I really don't care about their portfolio, just show me stuff I can buy so I can move on. 😂
I literally found the perfect fits for what I wanted man and now I cant even buy it 😦 I messaged the creator though. He also has a bunch of assets on Fab, maybe he forgot about that one 😄
Here's to hoping!
What I want to see is which comes out first UE6... or Artstation integration into Fab. 😂 On the plus side maybe UE6 will have Fab integration right into it... That will just bug out and get fixed 6.1 😅
Just got this email, months later. My address did change, maybe that's why?
Sucks my account went inactive without any warning whatsoever
I wouldn’t be surprised if artstation migration happens in 2 years
I just got it as well. Not sure.
Did not change addresses. 😅
Epic really dropped the ball through and through with fab
Better dump it and go back to marketplace 😄
I got a fab payment just yesterday, did they change the pay dates or what?
Anyone else's Fab plugin crashing only on some projects when attempting to login?

From the stack trace that looks like an unhandled exception when they try to get access token or something. Funky how Class.cpp should call FabAuthentication.cpp 🤔
I feel it's hard to "build a good store page" on fab atm. Stuff feels so random. How can people find my plugin when they don't know they want it..
yes, it's especially unfortunate because the biggest need for creators isn't "more of the same stuff" but "stuff that doesn't exist" which correlates with " stuff people didn't know they wanted/was possible" and meshpack is a prime example of that
I think I sell mostly on organic and other people mentioning it.
Don't think many people find it on the fab while browsing. Even though it has perfect rating
wow creator of meshpack! yes, your plugin I did not know I wanted until someone said something. There is no way I would have known to search for that.
goes for majority optimisation stuff tbh
I do remember searching something like "level building" or "level tool" but those are just way too generic
This thing needs "Most sold" sorting..
Yeah. For optimization I've just got to make it so smooth that people tell other people to get it
The issue with a “most sold” sorting is that it becomes a vicious cycle that snowballs into only the biggest sellers getting more sales while choking out newer smaller creators. The more popular tools will get more and more sales while others will get less and less visibility.
yeah I definitely see why epic is steering clear from this
but at the same time, steam doesn't have that problem
I guess Relevance is a hidden way of doing that. 🤔
perhaps there needs to be a discovery queue
Relevance is how relevant something is to your search query, not the same at all.
Totally agree, however Steam has been around and has been polished and refined for what, 15-20 years at this point?
yep
But my search query is the engine tools category. MeshPack is item nr 8th.
https://www.fab.com/category/tool-and-plugin/engine-tools
Which is nice. But I don't know why
speaking of cool stuff, I stumbled upon this a while back:
https://www.fab.com/listings/f0c0b9a6-9ac2-445f-9588-9d79b4878ae7
last thing you would search for is dynamic lights if you're looking for "optimised lights" although I will say the creator did the naming a bit of a disservice
Feb-24 update: now supports directionality (optional) at a marginal shader cost.Efficient & cheap dynamic point lights at a very low frame cost, using modulated materials with less than 80 instructions.Glow & flickering can be added instantly at virtually no CPU cost.Blob Shadows can be added to your characters. They adapt to any floor surface, ...
maybe fab needs some AI search query
quickest way I'd imagine to getting something good
otherwise you're going to need to implement synonym searching or user based activity searches or something more complicated
given fab dev time...
I've resorted to a chrome plugin to use as my wishlist
Or curated categories. But I guess that is a mess. Like "level optimization tools" category.
yeah, could be bad
too many to look at
or multiple categories? then some users will just select all categories
I guess I could use a better thumbnail 🤔 🎨
It's so easy when you sell a visual thing! 😄
Like those are "oh, I want that. Give me that"
honestly I think word of mouth is your best bet, I mean look at Ultra dynamic sky, GMC, SKGShooter framework, I'm sure in the initial phases they just seemed to be any other generic potentially poorly implemented systems
I see, so thats where you got inspiration from?haha
perhaps a more abstract image?
like blocks being bundled together
instead of generic background
still use that sweet dynamic lighting
I reckon you need to focus on getting more products onto Fab - each one is an entry point and often people who get one will end up purchasing all of them - and make YouTube videos for them - and try and answer questions on the UE Forum
you've got a good recipe for success going - keep it up
A bit there. Most of the text inspiration is from the game Control actually 😄
And yeah, this is my MAIN product 👀
Once it launches 🚀
I've been looking forward to you releasing it!
Me too! The project ballooned. But in a good way.
The quality would never have gotten to what it's at now without it
Makes sense to release smaller stuff that would act as entry points. Gives smaller products more value, and more reason to release them 🤔
So far I've only gone with things that are unique and kinda special. But MeshPack has given me valuable lessons for when I'm releasing MeshBlend.
wait I've been looking for this exact thing!!!
i eagerly await your release
Yeah it's never as simple as it looks from the outside 😄 Even small products can take months to develop but I think it's worth the effort.
Thanks! It's at a point where visual quality, performance and artist workflow is good.
It's a much bigger beast than MeshPack, but it's getting there. Almost 1 year in the making 😅
I think with MeshBlend the biggest factor will be to convey that it's worth the price. Not for those in the industry, they seem to get it. But for hobbyist the presentation needs to sell the "This. I want this. I need this" experience 😄
what were you thinking of charging?
(of course, don't answer if I'm being too nosey!)
yeah, for me if it solves a problem I dont need to worry about in the future in a professional way, price doesn't matter 80% as much
as long as its not extorting me vs content given of course
Nah. That's fine! Pricing is hard.
I've landed on around $1000 for studios. Just looking at a screenshot that can understandably be steep. But It's currently being used in an upcoming AAA game. Been in works for a year. Works on consoles. Can blend any mesh. All meshes in the whole game if you'd like. Has been massively battle tested. Performance, Quality and Artists workflow is key. And general feedback has been that there's no going back, can't live without it 😅
On standard license I haven't landed it. I want it to be fair. But also not that unavailable. Would ofc love for everyone to use it, but can't have it all
But yeah. The showcase demo++ needs to reflect and showcase exactly what your getting. I only want happy customers.
demo with as many use cases as possible will 100% help
matter of fact, it justifies pricing more to me, otherwise its a shot in the dark
although i think the fact its being used in AAA already is convincing enough haha
100%. My plan is a good demo showcasing both the good and the bad sides. I want the demo to give you a good understanding of what you are getting.
yes, bad cases too definitely will help
worst thing ever for me when i buy something is discovering stuff that wasnt shown or considered at all catching me by surprise
If you want to give it a go you can check out the current test project here.
Don't blame me. Blame megascans 😅
fair
I think a demo project is required for suchs things. A youtube video is nice, but it's not enough. Need to see all the pixels 😄
It sounds like I'll be priced out unfortunately but I wish you well. Yeah a demo project should help - prices that high bring high expectations.
demo project needs the plugin though, which isnt ideal, but demo executable, now we're talking
I think video can suffice, I think it more so comes down to plugin owners not being aware of showing enough things
so they'll miss use cases a demo executable would be able to show
ah sorry. Demo executable. Not project
although same can be said about demo executables too
but harder to mess up I'd imagine
the amount of times i am saddened to hear the distinction, I've had to be distinct now lol
My goal for demos, etc ++ is that for that situation it can be wishlisted and gottten when there is a sale 😊
now you're talking 😄
so far my games won't be needing any blending any time soon I imagine
but when they do, it would be the first I'll look at
or pick it up on a sale haha
right now I'm considering dropping 1k on sale assets i dont need any time soon hahaha
https://www.fab.com/listings/e3f81dd7-e00b-4c32-ba52-a366145b2ae6 this is a craz sale, and looks really useful when i need it for example

I guess I need to view fab as 4 target groups, not 2.
Normal: Standard=Hobbyist++/indie& Pro=studios
On sale: Standard=Hobbyist & Pro=large indie (that get fck by the current 100k mark)
If that made any sense to anybody 🤔
How was the demo? Ready to give me $1k?
it's good! what I'd imagine something called meshblend would do
if I was a big studio sure
I have to know the going rate for regular joes
but I think now what will sell me is what goes into the description
I am also curious about performance on low end machines
also is it possible to modify how large of a blend it does? on a per object basis too?
that i cant find in the demo
Yeah performance metrics will need to be clear. It's going to be used on XSS, so it has to perform.
And yeah, there is a bunch of details that's not conveyed in the demo. Like the artist workflow. Sizes. What it can and can't be used for.
Makes sense to have a showcase video, more in depth video and a demo people can play (with lots more examples than what it is now)
Thanks for the feedback! Makes it easier to plan for what I need to make
customer POV is important! 🙂
also what do you mean by XSS?
all i know is cross site scripted attack
haha true. Xbox Series S
ah i see
...but how low can it go? haha, im talking gtx 760 or gtx 950 type of performance
Oh. I have no idea.
On my 4090 at 1440p the low setting renders at 0.08 ms
fair, tbh im still figuring out how to test for PC specs besides just asking people "how many FPS does it run on your machine" and hope they have a weak machine, next up I need to buy myself a weak PC
Currently working on optimizations. It needs to perform under 1ms on XSS. And under 0.5ms for PS5/xbox
awesome
does anybody have level building tool recommendations?
All I have is leartes level tool, which is okay, but not really full of features
there's scythe editor but that's still in alpha dev
also have people deducted fab purchases from their tax returns before
This depends entirely on your local tax regulation, but at least for me I could consider it a business expense so it would be deductible
yeah my tax regulations allow me to put it under business expenses
awesome to hear u could justify it
feels like a cheat to me almost
like as if the assets are free, or im getting free money
or something
Did fab sale start??
Haha, well you're just getting the tax%'s worth of benefit from it usually so it's not really free in that sense
Eg. usually tax deductions like this are deducted from taxable income, not the total amount of tax you're paying. VAT is the exception here of course, where you basically get a full refund of the VAT you paid
But getting a discount like that is certainly nice still
yeah, so if I were to buy assets and then deduct taxable income to 0... technically I come out with assets and money that belonged to me, rather than it going off to government... well, thats my understanding of it
feels free haha
Well think of it like this... Let's say you have income of 1000 eur, and your tax rate is 30%, so you would pay 300 eur in tax. Now, you purchase a GPU for 1000 eur, and deduct that. Your taxable income is now 0. The actual savings you made was only 300 eur
anyone know when this fab sale is supposed to start ?
It started yesterday?
inrecidble ty
yeah this is what i mean haha, now if your taxable income was 1000 dollars... feels like a free gpu
otherwise the money would be lost to government
rather being for your own benefit
You would lose 300 eur to the government yes, but not 1000 :)
So essentially by using tax deductions, you are receiving a discount % equal to your tax %
wait what am I missing
so if I make 1000, and i get taxed 100
but i buy something that can be deducted for 100
that means i pay no tax
and keep the thing i bought no?
Yes, but the value of what you buy in order to pay 100 less in tax is higher than 100
It would have to be worth 1000 in this case if you were taxed 100 on that
Deductions are done on the taxable income (what the tax amount is calculated from), not from the tax you ultimately end up paying
It would definitely be quite a cheat code if it was directly from the tax you end up paying because then you could buy something worth 100 bucks to pay no tax but unfortunately that isn't how it works :)
At least in the jurisdictions I'm aware of it doesn't work like that
i see... i am missing part of the equation lol
well i will drop 1k on this fab sale anyway, and see how fkd i am coming tax season
You should have about 100-200 dollars in tax savings from that but keep your receipt as items that big being deducted may inquire an audit.
I'm fairly sure that regardless of if you get audited or not, most jurisdictions require you to keep invoices and accounting data from 5 years or so at least for business-related accounting stuff
(By invoice I mean something that's an acceptable "proof", in some accounting systems it can be also stored directly there)
If you're unable to click the fab plugin account button in certain projects to login, create another project and login to fab with that project and then copy/paste the {ProjectName}/Saved/webcache_4430 folder into the project that crashes and you'll be logged in when you open the fab plugin
Sale is going well, how about you guys?
How do you guys not add a favorite button in fab??
It’s supposed to release sometime this month
I mean fab so far has been ass backwards
Most sellers and buyers would agree with you
Pretty good sales yesterday here.
Maybe epic should admit they're really bad at making stores
Was meaning to ask this if anyone has more info regarding it,
What was the creator code intended for when we setup our Fab seller profiles?
https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/fab/publisher-get-started-in-fab
Your next step is to create your unique Creator Code. Your Creator Code is a reserved username that is used throughout the Fab site as part of your profile page, and as part of your publisher page URL.
Additionally, when publishing listings for Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite becomes more widely available, this will be the username tied to the Support-a-Creator program.
sold two copies in the 36 hours before the sale, but none since. probably just the perils of small sample sizes
I'm happy 😛
I didn't participate in the sales this time around and sales have been slow, but I kinda expected it
What is the largest marketplace? Would that be Turbo Squid?
You can sell them as fbx and other source files but right now the only engine specific file types are unreal and unity. I don’t think cry engine is on their roadmap due to its obscurity
Do people buy on turbo squid? I have downloaded free models there but I would not trust making an account with a debit card there. It seems sketchy
Pretty good, I’ve made 100 dollars since it started and will probably cap out around 120-150 dollars. Only having 3 products and it being a short sale kinda sucks though
They earn less than $100M per year, so evidentlysomebody is buying their stuff. But they take about 60% from the artists sales, so you'd have to price gouge just to pay for the turbosquid tax.
It'd be nice to have sinc cryengine took down their marketplace. I wanted to sell some ai system
Fab supporting cryengine would be good for the engine but it likely will be a long time before that happens since barely anyone uses cryengine and crytek has not updated it in 2 years.
Hopefully cryengine 6 is easier to use and has virtualized geometry and such so people can choose between more than unity and their scummy business and unreal and the reasons some people don’t like it
Hello there, so now with fab, is Quixel Mixer useless? I still have some scans in my Megascans Library folder, but mixer doesn´t even recognize them
It's always better for the devs to have more options. Cryengine is very capable. Hopefully the engine won't die. Thanks for the feedback.
Turbo squid imo is better for cinematics and short films etc rather than games. They have some filters for "low poly" and other categories that are designed to be game development friendly but literally none of the assets I bought with those filters were optimized for games and in fact some of them caused massive performance hits even for small props (I spent a couple hundred on props and NPC models there)
Fab's insistence ln being a turbo squid alternative is why it's so exhausting to navigate
I noticed that about some of these places. Very poorly optimized models.
All they care about is making it visually appealing enough to get sales. It's the market's job to filter content in some way. Which is why fab is such a catastrophe. It doesn't allow filtering via detailed user reviews or via platform moderation. I don't think it's a coincidence this all happened at the same time as epic's mass layoffs.
I usually go to CGTrader over Turbosquid. There's more low poly and game ready stuff there
Turbosquid is oldschool tho. It used to be mostly a site for CAD models when I used it in 2010
Quick question for the other sellers here, when you all pay taxes on the money you make from fab do you pay the taxes on the 12% that goes to epic or just the 88% you receive?
Just the 88% minus any business expenses.
Before Fab, you could talk to marketplace representatives over email when your product didn't pass the review. Is this now not possible or the guys attending my product just careless? 😅
yep
Thanks!
I find kinda annoying, by the way, the fact assets cannot be filtered by discount yet like it was possible before even if it wasn't so perfect.
That's what I thought but on the tax form they sent me they want me to pay the 12%, which seems to be only one of the issues they included
That doesn't make any sense, Epics cut is never your income - but if it specifically states that then it can't be ignored I guess.
I am hoping it's an accounting error just like how it said my sales for a month was off by nearly 400 dollars. All the months after Fab was released had under reported sales numbers
rockstar lawsuit soon
That's wild
isn't there a review process when someone submits something to fab?
Also what happens to buyers in such a case?
wait how, I bought it this sale!
Yesterday showed two sales :] thank you for buying and hope it servs you well
sure will!
Depends on the fine print. I'm new to Fab, so I don't remember what it says, but with other gigs you can write off the 12% as an expense. For example, with Uber, the contract says that Uber doesn't deduct it's share of rideshare payments from my income, but rather I AM paying Uber their share. This counts as a business expense. So, if I made 50,000 on that gig and Uber got 18,000 of it then that is an expense that I don't have to pay taxes on (on top of mileage deductions).
But I am not a expert, so don't take this as legal advice.
Taxes are based on your income(what hits your bank) not theoretical sales figures. If you run a business then only what is in your bank account matters, the government doesn’t care about what the fab sales report website says.
You could get in legal trouble writing off money that you didn’t make
This is advice that I got from a tax expert and from my own research.
But like I said before, I am not a tax expert. Seek advice from the professionals.
For gig apps these are called Operating Expenses, by the way. You might want to ask a tax expert what the rules are for content creators.
I think you explained your situation wrong to the accountant, operating costs are things like gas, phone, oil changes, etc. for uber. The cut uber takes is not part of your income and not related to operations since it never reaches your bank account. Write offs come from your bank account.
Please don’t continue doing this as you may end up in jail or with severe debt owed to the irs.
Write offs also need to be “ordinary and necessary” for your relative industry
An analogy would be an employee at Microsoft can’t write off the costs the business pays to employee them because it’s not part of their income even though their take home pay is lower because of these costs
If you would like more information then feel free to do some research. I have done this for years with tax experts and I'm not in jail.
But like I said before, and I'm not sure why I need to say it a third time:
I am not a tax expert (neither is anyone else here). Seek the advice of a professional.
You don’t need to be an expert to use logical reasoning, what you are doing is fraud and if you make very little you may not get caught but there is still the risk of getting caught. Usually the IRS will try to collect the debt before resorting to prison but if you have done it for a long time they may collect the debt while you are in prison.
If an accountant told you to write off income that’s not yours then either you explained something wrong to them or they need to lose their license.
That income you are writing off belongs to uber not you
Yeah yeah yeah
I am not a tax expert and neither are you. Please seek the advice of a professional.
Why do you keep repeating this expert nonsense? You don’t need to be a chef to know a steak is raw and in the same sense you don’t need to be an accountant to recognize fraud
I'm not going to repeat it a fifth time.
Good, it’s nonsense
If you cared that he'd go to jail then you'd tell him the same thing. Don't ask for this kind of advice on Fab of all places.
any cool assets i should get from fab before sale ends
stuff i use that i think is on sale:
- screen space fog scattering
- cinematic lens flares
- brushify
Well - this sucks. The sale said through the 21st so I assumed 11:59 EST would be the end.. but I guess that is wrong lol
It’s already over? That was a really short sale
Yeah.. I am pretty sure it ended early accidentally
Hopefully personal set discounts come next month so we don’t need to go 2-4 months again for a discount
I’d imagine many sellers will take advantage of going on sale any time they want, I know I will
I had a few things in my cart that I wanted to get but I was so busy with work that I was like I'll get them in the afternoon when I have free time
went to go buy them and they were full price
That sucks
Eh, I mean I wanna pay people what they think their time is worth, but at the same time when you are buying like 5 items at a time
thats a much harder pill to swallow as a buyer haha
I thought it ended at midnight, just assumed - just checked the email and it does say 5pm. I apologize if my comment earlier about there still being 24 hours lead to that. In fact, if you had any of my products (rdTools) in your cart I can offer you a free one as an apology?
Nawww, you're fine. I point this one at Fab a bit. Don't use a sentence with "through Feb 21" on the frontpage because that implies till EoD, also 5PM EST is such a weird time to end a sale on a Friday. That's not even 11:59 UTC yet. Just weird handling of it so far.
But it happens, they'll learn from it hopefully and plan it abit better next time
Any reccomendation on good mobile 3rd person controls asset, people hated my mobile game for the controls and camera control
Thanks for responding, sorry I didn't mean to start a war from the topic. I have forwarded the question to Epic's team so I'll share what they say when they get back to me. If blox was right then their cut shouldn't be on my tax form, and if you are right they will probably tell me to do what you said. The one thing I really wanted to nail down was that one way or another I will not be paying off their cut either through having the amount corrected or by writing it off. I'll keep you guys updated what they say. There were other problems on the form anyway so I'll get clarification on a few things
You didn't start a war, lol.
The real difference here is how each platform operates.
dang, i thought same thing, just got around to it 😆
Sale was pretty good despite it being very short and only having 3 products. How did everyone else do on the sale?
Yeah I'm happy with how it went.
Does Fab allows to have Subscription and generation of custom discount code ?
Sadly no, hopefully they add subscriptions for products in the future though as I could see sellers adopting gamepass style stuff
thank you for the confirmation; however it is sad to see sellers can not generate custom discount codes similar to ArtStation or GumRoad
It’s been 5 months since we have had personal set discounts, I’m really hoping they focus on it next month
please can you confirm that if it is already there? i mean i just want to give my product at discount to my buddy who greatly helped me during dev time of the product. can I do it at Fab? like a CODE : THANKYOU_NAME_### and he can use it for the discount ?
I'm not positive, but I think you need to contact Epic to get coupon codes generated - places like Humble Bundle use them, there's a page to redeem them:
https://www.epicgames.com/account/code-redemption
Im always get negative feedback from EPIC when ever i asked them before about personal seller discounts etc
it feels like making own website is the best option -_- i do really wonder why they are so ignorant about sellers freedom on sales, and subsctiption model
I have requested codes for my products, and they provided them. I did this because people reached out to me for discounts, and since I can't offer discounts directly on Fab, we have to conduct private transactions. After the purchase, I give them the code to my products so they can own the product on Fab (with their desired license) rather than just receiving the files.
The sale did bring traffic to the site, but having only three products on sale is very limiting for sellers like me. Ironically, I sold more full-price products than discounted ones. However, if I include my full-price sales as part of the sale period, I actually outperformed the December sale window.
is there a way to like an asset store page in fab?
there was a like list befor, cant see it for some reason now!
Everything is pretty basic atm..
You can leave a rating
Ratings are always welcome 😊
oh! so we can get keys for our products that we can provide?
Yes, you can contact support to request keys for your products. Just specify which products, the license type, and the number of keys you need. This system is used for things like Humble Bundle.
That's great to hear! I know that it's used in Humble Bundle but I did not know as individual sellers we could request keys. Thanks for your input 🙏
thank you for this info i will try
That's pretty neat. Where do users insert the keys to redeem the product?
No ads
you can do it through the launcher like this. but I believe it's also possible thru the the epic website
Sure!
I don't think you understand
Another seller that we can put on our blacklist once it’s a feature on Fab
Does Unreal Marketplace/Fab provide tax forms or do you just need to manually figure out the totals based on the payout reports?
I assume it depends where you are selling from, but as a United States seller myself, they seem to send tax forms if you make over a certain threshold or they may take into account how long you sold for. I didn't get a form last year but I only sold for a few months in 2023. I already got my 1099k tax form a few weeks ago
Canada
I'm guessing I just need to manually do the conversion and pull it from the payout reports
That's what I did last year
"Sure!" would mean deleting your ad
Doing this (which is against this servers rules) is a great way to ensure that your product will be ignored by people seeing it here.
I would have ignored it before, now I actively dislike it
I do my tax in Canada (Quebec), I used my payouts from Paypal net of all the fees as my revenues and it is ok to do so, I have a small accounting firm doing it (including the companies's tax) if you want some reference
Hi, I'm trying to find some sci-fi guns that are skeletal meshes for a tutorial. Is there any way to search for that in FAB? I've tried various searches like "Skeletal mesh gun", "gun pack", etc, but the results that come up are very random and variable quality. The whole experience of FAB so far is terrible to be quite honest...i.e. really hard to narrow down searches, I always seem to get the same irrelevant asset packs coming up it searches, but can never find what I need. Unreal Marketplace was way better and if I wanted anything from say, some rock meshes, to a 3D navigation plugin, I could usually find it by searching.
Type in futuristic weapons pack and filter it to unreal engine only if you want rigged stuff
You can rig fairly easily in unreal though
For 3D models do you guys use in-game screenshots or Marmoset renders?
Grabbing some quixel textures off of fab and the add to project option doesn't have any packing options like quixel and the default packing is ORM instead of ORD. Is there any way to customize packed channels or do I need to dl the zip source and pack em myself?
q from another canadian - are you getting a standard foreign-tax 30% witholding deduction on your payouts from epic, or is it (correctly) not taking that cut (because of canada/US tax treaty)? The W8BEN-E their registration system auto-generated is not exactly clear on it, just says "Service Income - 30%" and I can't tell if that means they are or aren't going to deduct the 30%...
ive never seen anything related to that 30% as a Canadian
ok, thanks
You could always check Sketchfab, but you will have to manually prepare the model for import into Unreal
it's free though
When I try to add a Fab Asset to my project, the "Add to Project" button literally does nothing? I've tried restarting the editor and same issue. I'm signed in, I accepted the EULA, and I'm not sure why it's not downloading and not being added? Anyone know a solution?
It looks to me like the seller doesn't offer this product in an Unreal Engine Project format. That might have something to do with it.
Also, he's giving this out for free? 🤨
lmao has anyone heard of unrealfab.com? it looks like someone has created an account using my fab support email 😅
this is the response I receieved
That doesn't even sound like something an Epic employee would say. 😆
yeah right??
but apparently its a thing
Yeah it's why I picked it
Interesting that it would show up when using the fab window inside UE then. Maybe there's some filter I should use
Now I realize it's got a blender icon, maybe UE assets will show a UE icon ?
Oof, is this part of free for the month selection? If so that's a big L by Epic Games. They're giving out a free asset, which is supposedly good quality according to their team, and it ain't even ready to be used.
If not, then the seller probably doesn't know what they're doing...
What’s the email addresss that email came from?
Every time I get a fab support email they address me by the name in my account
Maybe his submission got rejected so many times that he just stopped trying to include an Unreal project. 😂
nah haha its not a scam
Oh okay
That's weird. Maybe they changed this policy very recently? I requested some codes in January.
interesting! I guess that might be the case? I will try again, saying its for a special case 🤣
Did you give them a reason for doing it like free copy to customer or humble bundle?
I'm not exactly sure how I worded it in the body of the ticket since I submitted it through the Fab support website, but my title was 'Requesting product keys for my Fab listings.' I might have mentioned that it was for my customers, but I'm certain I didn't refer to them as free copies or imply it was for Humble Bundle. Looking back, I believe I was very direct about the request and didn't really provide a specific reason.
So, is FAB just online now, and now bridge for UE5 just depcreted?
Interesting, either they changed their policy since then or it just depends on who is your support agent I guess
I have a question for Fab sellers:
I'm a small and relatively new seller, and so far my biggest problem has been gathering audience and marketing my products, how do you guys do it? What methods work for you? Any tips and tricks is really welcomed as well.
With Quixel Megascans on FAB - how do I download a mesh with all the LODs? The only option appears to be to download the source files at specific qualities on the website, or just download a single quality type via the FAB plugin in UE5.5.
Were the LODs not always baked in directly via the Bridge app?
On the Bridge app you could select which LOD levels you wanted, but that feature is gone in FAB?
I'm pretty sure it's just based on whoever handles your case. Same as reviews. The answer you got was what was the norm on the Marketplace. If anything, codes are the new thing.
Depends on what you are selling. I sell blueprints and tools and demonstration videos on youtube work great. If you made a product in demand, people are actively looking for it on Fab, Google, YouTube and anywhere else
whats your youtube channel? and is it ok if i see your fab seller page?
My method is just make high quality products with good thumbnails and detailed descriptions(in a way that’s easy to read), from there fab provides an enough traffic to make money from.
Make sure you use searchable titles too, if your title is “Labrador retriever pack” it will sell better than “marvelous pack of canine friends”
Also it’s best not to sell in hyper crowded markets unless you intend to be really cheap. My questing plugin sells basically nothing because there are 200 other quest plugins most of which have a lot of ratings on them already
could you help me with some of titles? i would really appreciate it
tell me what you think of these titles that i have for my packs:
Procedural Master Material: Modern Abstract Tiles
Procedural Master Material: Patterned Metal Surfaces
Realistic Landscape Vista Pack: Volcanos
Background Building Pack: Modern, Sci-Fi, Post Apocalyptic
before fab came along the last one used to sell well during sales but ever since fab is out i havent managed to sell it anymore :(
My youtube channel and fab seller page both are run under the name "A Vie Guy Studios". I don't want to self promote here, so if you just look up that name on youtube it'll be the first channel to come up
For products on Fab I sell a basic splined mesh tool, and the dynamic road system
all of those are too long for a title, fab titles have a visible character count limit before they get cut off.
I would use these names:
Procedural Abstract Tiles
Procedural Metal Material
Realistic Volcano Pack
building variety pack
and in the tags add 8-12 tags for synonyms or other search terms like "shader", "tiling" "suface", etc. depening on what the pack is about
I agree these names sound better
Ths k you so much guys really appreciate it
also make your thumbnail like this where it shows in level shot of the materials on balls. make sure they are detailed
usually I like to add the title to the thumbnail and a border too in photoshop as it helps it stand out.
this is a really good thumbnail
the name on it is kinda bad though
Anyone else noticed a major increase in sales on Fab in the last week or so? I'm only a tiny seller (one product), but I went from only 2 sales all year before this, to 5 in the last week alone
I always try my best to make my thumbnails look decent and I have no idea how good my thumbnails are doing
I basically followed the thumbnail guidelines of dekogon and learned, using a hero shot and few key information on the thumbnail
Unfortunately I didn't get a single sell even tho one of my products was on sale :(
Strange. I wasn't in a sale or anything. I was wondering if the latest Fab update improved discoverability somehow
we shall see! trying my luck again 😂
I mean I know that's what they're working on currently, they did share their roadmap a while ago, and although rn fab might be a mess but I know it'll get better and better so I'm hopeful
And maybe you're right maybe that's why you got more sales
hey guys i cant be the only person who cant get some of his quixel assets.
how do i get the free megascans through fab?
Megascans aren't free any more
Megascans have around 1000 common assets that are free but the promotion to get the entire quixel library for free expired when 2025 started.
They did a huge overhaul of search and are continuing improvements to it over the next month.
Issues that plagued fab for a long time like searching “rock” returning rocking chairs have been fixed, it also seems to be a bit smarter about showing unreal assets more than sketchfab or unity assets if you buy those
I think they added some personalization because I almost exclusively buy unreal only assets and that’s all I see in search now unless it can’t find any, then it resorts to trying sketchfab
Yeah, it had serious problems with filtering before
Had to always manually go over and filter by Unreal
Well, let's hope it continues to improve 🙂
I seconds that, I'm glad they're fixing it but by bit
I really to see reviews and questions come back, hopefully they'll do those soon
Can't wait for them to add reviews, comments and wishlist again
I just kinda wish they added some stuff for sellers as well like the ability to say how many times our product came up during a search how many people clicked on it and how many people wish listed it
That was unfortunately way down the line
Yes, I think it was far back on the roadmap

Hello guys welcome back to another video. In this video we will be taking a look at the NEW Fab roadmap. They are going to be updating FAB to add things like user reviews, a Wishlist or favorites, and much more. Plus we take a look at the new megascans roadmap, for n...
I’m a bit worried that adding semantic search will break it again but I’m really hoping the fab team learned their lesson and tests it extensively before pushing it to a live sandbox
Wishlist is supposed to come out this month, probably at the end. Given how many people are complaining about lack of community features they might start work on those early
Oh thats great, ive been using the cart as a makeshift wishlist
You should make a private discord server to store links instead, I use it as file storage for photos, files, and links
Good news: Fab now has full-screen screenshots! Press F to fullscreen the current image
Bad news: This also happens when you Ctrl+F to find text
haha
isn't it "F"?
