I am updating some of my projects on Fab, and I am trying to get it as nicely formatted as some of you have it. Some of you also include emojis for visualizing categories and I don't see that in Fab's text formatting panel, so I am curious where you all go to add your formatting and emojis
You can generally copy and paste emojis from anywhere. Like you could type them in discord using the emoji keyboard and copy them

This is what a lot of people do not understand. «Verified» doesnt mean anything aside from the seller having submitted business information in compliance with EU guidelines. It takes all of 5 minutes to do. It doesn’t mean they are a trustworthy person, it doesn’t mean their products are reliable, quality, well-made. It means basically nothing.

It does mean they are who they say they are. Or at least have the documentation saying so 😛
There are buttons on the top bar in the text editor for coloring, quoting(the white vertical bar), header styles, and bullet pointing.
Emojis can be accessed on windows by typing windows key + period key.
Nice, thanks. Just figured out the white bar is technically a quote but they look very nice for category separation. I have also been using a website to find emojis, the shortcut is much appreciated
Yeah it took me a while to figure that out too. Sales have been better I think since I added the sleeker descriptions
Has anyone had the md-0011-0 error when installing Metahuman Plugin?
I personally use a browser extension that allows me to paste emojis but I just now learned you can press Windows + period key. I also figured you can press Windows + comma to temporarily hide all windows to easily access the desktop. Like wtf a dream came true

Yes you can use them in your stuff, all epic games provided samples can be used commercially
They specifically said that 100x times that anybody is free to use the assets however they wish.

It works just like before fab launched. You go into your epic account and go into "redeem code". Just tested this myself 😁
it isn't such a silly question. most Humble bundles were redeemed to your Unreal library prior to Fab

and trust me, i was looking for it
but also u start the relation using a lie and an image representing a very similar model from a know slow motion game superhot
so many would not trust such seller with other thing if thats the start

it depend how much and if u care about the cover image and buyer relations, as most seems do not care in regrds of cover at least
truth is u cant show slow motion in an static image, its not possible most of the times
but lets start with the cover image, covers are small, they need to have minimum, yet eye catchy design and be readable

Is that the superhot character? It looks way too similar, you might want to change that out so you don’t get taken down by the studio that owns that IP
u see, u already know what is the best and why
clean view image with big single readable title, even half or more of the image space is fine, maybe some design accents to this to make it more unique, eye catchy, like the contrasting stripe bars with title in find the npc, rpg engine assets or diagonal stripe in multiplayer shooter, or like cozy life, colourful big title, depends on the asset
no one can read or see anything small on those covers, so that the best way
Usually slow motion is done by showing fast moving objects as stuck in mid air like bullets or chairs or water while the character doing the slow motion is in a sprinting pose or other normal speed poses
It will be very hard to show slow motion with just characters though, you will need debris or other objects. Superhot used bullets a lot
now about how to show the slow motion mechanic if it is your main asset feature
i actually did play your asset demo and its in the demo
u need to make what i call a dynamic still image
its in your game
while u dont have that cover model
u have breakable weapons, enemies
throwable weapons
projectile rays, shooting effects
and other effects
buyers want to see that
make a dynamic still cover, where u compose those elements into one
its a still image u know something dynamic is happening, an action is in progress
like attacking enemies with throwed breaking gun somewhere in air already, but having another one in hand, like breaking pistol mid air but shotgun in hand
show the projectiles bullet traces from shotgun and the combustion effects
show a bunch of enemies u fight with, at least one of them in the middle of breaking apart like in the demo
u can put some other effects from the asset in the background view if needed, like those portals
just make it dynamic, interesting, showing what u have, dont rush, try many times, have some fun, compare, choose the best
add the big fat title, maybe with some additional accents, title does not need to be white, it can have color, to be better balanced with rest
if thats not enough, u can always add little some kind of "slow mo" effect that does not need to be in your asset, just for the cover to emphasize that it about the slowmo, some kind of blurs, smudges, ghosts, very nuanced, just adding that very little extra on top

They did not mention which file was broken!!!
Also, the product was approved 3 days ago after a small change request by FAB team that I applied!

I've added a hidden parameter to enable this mode in the next version, it isn't on by default as I think the app should only count vault items that have actual data in them. I really hope that when they implement review overhaul they setup a reminder email, even if it’s sent out once I’m fine with that. I know epic has the systems in place to send out emails for transactions already or they can implement it on the website when logged in

This same thing happened with Uber, and now you can't write reviews anymore. The passengers would write weird stuff when rating me like, "he let me sniff cocaine in the car 10/10 would ride again!"

Also a Uber drive, he gets you from point A to B ofc. there are things ... but in comparison, assets have so much more depth, which is quite hard to convey in a 1-5 star rating.

You dont sell assets on fab for asset flipping, you sell great assets that save studios (big or small) time
yeah we sell assets for that purpose only but most of the time in my case i have seen that asset just becoma an asset flip either i am making a wrong asset or my audience is not correct but thats not the case right now the thing is when i was on epic marketplace i was able to sell more asset but now on fab i didnt sell any from past 2 weeks which is suprising as my asset is also not visible in few category if i am searching it

I purchased a plugin and the launcher pretends it's installing it, but it's not installing anything (Nothing appears in plugins/marketplace).
Do you need to do that if you have the plugin uninstalled and install it again
It's really frustrating just how much of a downgrade Fab has been. Everything from awful searching, things not appearing, listings taking forever to go through, no wishlists, no questions, no comments on reviews. Half the time you can't even see reviews.
You can only open it in a browser but if you select download it tells you to go to the launcher. But if you just bought it, you have to restart the launcher for it to appear, etc, etc, etc.
I really hope this system improves soon.
If you are expecting a change in your vault you should do it
You don’t have to restart the launcher to update the vault, there is a refresh button for it
Search is horrendous. You can type the name of an asset exactly and it still gets buried deep in the results. I get better search results by typing "Fab," followed by name of asset into Google.
I can find my assets at the top of search with a direct search result
I’ve never had an issue with their search after the first week
Chances are fab is sorting by newest instead of relevance. If the dropbox shows nothing or default, it's being defaulted to newest which will skew the results and fail to prioritize what you're actually looking for

Yeah fab saves filters across multiple sessions so they likely had something other than relevance on and didn’t realize

I think even if fab introduces personal discounts as an option, they might put limitations such as an asset that recently got discounted cannot take part in the monthly sales.
I hope they don’t do that, that will be disastrous as sellers only know about sales 2-4 weeks before and they will need to decide between doing personal discounts or event discounts since doing both would conflict too much

Hi, i have 4 plugins that requires another plugin dependency i made but it's not allowed by Fab except for Asset Packs and Complete Projects.
Any ideas what are the solutions in this case ? Can i use a complete project instead and have a dependency to a marketplace plugin ?
If you actually create a code plugin it can have a dependency towards pre installed plugins or your own ones that already exist on fab. It must be stated in the product description if you have a dependency towards your own plugins. From what it sounds like you do not create a plugin but an asset pack that depends on another asset pack. Am I right?

there is even place in the background to put other things to show
u want some of the weapons and enemies shattered like in the game demo
i would not make it so bright, there is also visible aliasing, so remember to make the final shot with max settings
not sure why third person when the demo game is first person, i was thinking about first person view
then u can be a little closer to all those enemies so they fill the view better and a way to show the weapon trace/effects
as a matter of fact u can basically make a sequence and put everything as u want manually

I would think other way around is correct because experimental implies that it could removed if the unreal team decides it's not worth development and beta implies they have committed to working on the plugin but it hasn't reached production ready yet. I would understand if they didn't want code being sold depending on a dependency that could be taken away at anytime outside of the sellers control

Yeah I agree - I can't see PCG disappearing any time soon - I've seen a lot of products using the PCG framework, but are they also linking with the PCG Core (experimental) as well?
It was never update for 5+, you can make that pretty easily with substance designer and a noise mask in a material
For publishers, do you increase your price for professional vs personal? Do you actually get sales from professional license?

Experimental would make sense to not be allowed, but Beta would be ok in my opinion
You are going to get varying answers about pricing here. Some are very vocally for and against the professional tier pricing. I am personally for it and I charge a little over 3x the price and expect somewhere between 1-5% of sales to be professional. But your type of product also significantly changes that figure

They are opening themselves up to a lawsuit if an organization purposely chooses the wrong license. You're right in that I don't know how unreal would catch it. But if a disgruntled employee reports it, then it would be easy to prove. I am hoping that UE will check for store bought assets upon packaging projects in the future. It would be good to make sure all products are properly licensed and if they wanted or needed to they could include it in the credits of their project
To me its overwhelmingly personal license sales. Only a couple of professional licenses got sold and that was during the black friday sale. I ended up decreasing the professional license tier to 80$ compared to the personal license of 60$ to see if that does anything. I'll likely make both the personal and professional tier the same price after a month of observation.

Right now I am running a test.
Until after Black Friday I had the professional prices 2.5x the personal price. I now put half my products to just have equal prices and for the other half I set the professional price to be 5-15 dollars more. I am still testing it and I will need a couple of more days for it but I think I have a pretty clear result coming up
Experimental plugins are free to change their public api, meaning your plugin based on it might break. Non-experimental ones are harder to get permission to do that with.

Has anyone here tried putting their assets on Gumroad? I'm deeply underwhelmed with Fab so far.
I feel a bit stupid asking this but I can't find the answer I'm looking for... With the limited-Time free assets on fab. does it make any difference to purchase the personal or professional? I'm just a solo developer right now. but both are free so if the professional also covers a personal licence I might as well get that, no? The wording for professional seems to suggest it is for studios over $100k revenue, but doesn't say if it covers less than that.

As far as im aware, the licenses only matter at the time of purchase. If you're not making 100k from your game in the past year, just get personal. They're not gonna retroactively come back and charge you extra if your next game is a big hit. You don't really get anything extra from professional.
Thanks for the reply. I think I'm more confused than I was before now though. Are you saying that the licence is void for any future use? Are you saying that you can't use a professional licence asset if you aren't making at least $100k?

No. What im saying is that the 100k threshold between personal and professional will only be considered at the time of purchase. For instance, if you or your company is making less than 100k in the past 12 months. You will only need to get a personal license. If you ever break that 100k threshold in the future, you do NOT need to come back and "upgrade" your license because you were below that threshold when you bought it. You'll be able to continue using the asset as you wish.

You can get a professional license if you're under 100k if you want. There's not really anything that states you can not, but what's really the point if you're making under 100k?
AHH thanks that makes sense. So really it seems like the sensible thing to do is whatever is easiest.. whichever it has defaulted to at time of purchasing.
It's strange they added this. We never had this option with the good old marketplace.
In summary, I feel like this is just a way for people to charge more on companies with bigger revenues without hurting the small indies

You can sell pretty much anywhere. I’ve sold a few on gumroad, sold a few on my site, sold a few on other sites.
Before Fab.com , one thing was for sure, the marketplace sold better. Now there’s been a shift. Also its always great to diversify, what if fab kicks you of their platform…,

The shift isn’t huge, but you can feel it, people are more willing to pay elsewhere… b4 they would ask why something isn’t on the marketplace. never had “why is this not on fab”… sales just happen…
Hello fabulous sourcers... I have a question about VAT... when completing a purchase, whenever is a FAB UE asset rather than a game on Epic Store, I read VAT are included/calculated when applicable but it looks to me they are not. basically it looks like no VAT are applicable even if my purchase is happening in Italy, where VAT are usually applied. Have I to assume VAT in digital products like UE assets rather than games do not apply, which sounds someway strange to me or at least not clear at all, or they actually do apply and I'm noticing that?
It should be applied at checkout.
I think its just a matter of time. Fab had a bumpy launch, total brand change will take a while for people to adapt to. It won’t be long before people realize (unreal users anyway) that buying on fab is wildly superior to buying anywhere else, just for the convenience of adding things to your project with ease. Whereas gumroad or other platforms need to be manually downloaded then added to your project, and needing to be sure you added the right version of the tool, not to mention version updates of a product.
Honestly if I am working on anything in Unreal, FAB is by far the best place to get your assets. I get so many emails from people who bought something on gumroad and asking if they can get the Marketplace/FAB version for free because it (gumroad) is so inconvenient.
I don’t even bother to sell on other marketplaces anymore because I don’t believe it’s in a buyers best interest. FAB is the way to go if you are using Unreal, without question. It was also a bit annoying to have to add version updates to a variety of other marketplaces every time I made a change to a tool.

both are workable. i think the best options are either:
- big text, remove throwables, clip behind characters if needed
- big text, clip behind throwables and characters
it's kind of silly but having the text interleaved into the scene is a tiny high effort touch that suggests quality because it's so rare

Hey, I most certainly feel your pain. I have assets from all over the place. This is something I plan on addressing in future versions of my Asset Manager Studio. Making plugins for sites like Gumroad and other sites so that you still have the easy interface for dealing with everything, but the d/l source should be indistinguishable and the complexities hidden from the normal user .

to be honest for that amount it doesn't look bad or too crowded
but i would still make more pronounced shattering effect visible on the enemies and at least one weapon so there is no doubt there is shattering enemy and weapon functionality in the asset, just shatter it more, even if i had to remove like 1-2 enemies to make more focused feature presentation
and at the back, against a wall i would put one of the portal u have, its a nice vfx to add some sf look on the top

I recommend looking into scene composition, eye tracking , and the rule of threes in art principles.
My advice would be to focus the characters in the middle of the screen with the player and then have two enemies coming at you stuck in slow motion on the left and right for the rule of threes and then have a bright object flying towards the player to track the eyes my recommendation is a chaos destroyed baseball bat frozen in mid air then have a border made in photoshop around the edges with text at the top titling your product
it doesnt have to be first person but this is a good example of using those art principles I mentioned above

In both of those the eye is targeting towards specific spots in the image naturally, the scene is split up into 3 vertical slices, and they both signify slow motion well

I have a question for asset authors, asked in another server too but just want to gather different opinions before deciding. Do you implement your assets in blueprints or C++ side, or both? I want to make a dialogue system in C++ and publish on unreal marketplace but if I make it in C++, it can't get modified easily by users. If I do it on blueprint side, it won't contribute much to my resume, I want to improve myself in C++. So should I do both versions and deliver to the customers? Or should I combine, like keeping core in the c++ and exposing the customizable parts to blueprints? Any suggestions?

This. That's how any serious system is designed. C++ for the heavy lifting and core elements that's more intended for programmers to be touched by. And BP for final user/designer/artist, so that it's user friendly and has a quick iteration loop.
For dialogue, Flow is a pretty good example of this.

After clicking “Create Project”, the asset is queued for download then immediately removed.
Ive made sure that the correct engine version is downloaded.
Ive been up and down multiple forum posts trying to find a solution. So far ive only found the issue partially solved for MAC users.
I dont really care that I cant make a base project. Id at least like a work around to be able to use the assets i purchased.
blueprints are much easier for people to work with, for a variety of reasons. if i wanted to make my asset sell, blueprints. i don't think anyone else can evaluate the sales<->resume tradeoff for you
Just for the first reason, I thought about making 2 versions, bp and c++ but the brifsttar's suggestion makes more sense imo. Resume is more important than the sales, I don't make it to sell, I make it to improve my resume but if I can make a few bucks, I won't say no to that.
just make sure you expose your C++ functions to BP and it shouldnt cause a big issue

shattered shotgun, not sure this will be visible, maybe try to put it bigger, closer to the camera, on the right bottom part where there is place opening before the enemies, just little to the left of the shattered enemy and the one shooting, perfect place, and probably in forward pointing little angled pose or something like that
i would remove the not so important small objects from the top, the fab cover is small, wont be much visible, but they feel kinda too random and makes it too chaotic, and this would make a nice clean part for at least part of title
and after all that, u can try to apply a little boom in some software to see if its makes it even better

I am guessing it would have the basic core ready, so that other unique features can be integrated into it. That will save months of development time.

Only you can decide wether to refund something or not. So the customer will need to reach out to you for refunds. Then you can write an email to epic stating which user you want to refund. You can ask epic for more details like if the user already downloaded the product or not.

I am beyond furious with what FAB has done to my product. While they were authorized to list my product on the Unreal Engine Marketplace, they have NO RIGHT to distribute it for free!
My product, Master Materials and Layer System for Daz Imports, is supposed to sell for $45, yet FAB has listed it for FREE without my permission. This blatant disregard for the agreed-upon pricing not only devalues my hard work but also undermines the trust creators place in these platforms to handle our intellectual property properly.
What Happened:
My product was listed for $45—yet FAB is giving it away for free without authorization.
Repeated attempts to resolve this with them have been met with excuses, delays, and no resolution.
This impacts not just me, but the entire community of creators relying on platforms like FAB to support us.
Why This Matters:
If FAB can decide to give away our work without permission, what’s stopping them from doing it to you? Developers and creators deserve better than this kind of negligence.

I no longer have access to edit. There is no listings on my Fab dashboard and clicking start creating takes me to my UEM dashboard where all my functionality has been removed. I have sent 20 emails over the past 3 weeks and opened numerous support tickets. At first they were telling to do things I already have done...submit new version..ect..none of which was needed or changed anything. I am resolved now to cummunity support and pressure. If its happenening to me it can happen to anyone.
I even changed the price to something crazy and nothing....?
Might as well start opening accounts on multiple platforms, just in case.

Under Section 1(d) of the FAB Distribution Agreement, Marketplace Operators are required to follow my instructions regarding the price of my product. Despite setting the price at $45, my product is currently being distributed for free, which I did not authorize. This constitutes a breach of the agreement and has resulted in financial losses and reputational harm.
Inability to Manage Product Listing
Per Section 10(a) of the agreement, I am entitled to withdraw my product from sale or modify its listing. However, I have been locked out of managing my own listing and am unable to update the supported versions or initiate a withdrawal. This directly violates the terms of the agreement regarding my control over the listing.

Hi, has anyone else received an email saying their account tax details are expiring and have to re-do the interview?
On the website, there's no mention of it expiring, and specifically states only re-do the interview if any details have changed - which none have.
I got the mail, idk it looks weird, didn't update anything yet, keeping an eye on the forum and discord to see what epic staff will say
the description in the mail doesn't even reflect of what the seller portal actually looks like
yeah, they were red flags for me too - 31st Dec's not even an end-of-tax year.
And most places just have a button "Nothing has Changed" kind of thing when things like that do need to be updated.

I know how I'd feel if they did that to Morpher, my product would never recover from it, many people wouldn't buy it after getting it for free
I think they need to compensate you for projected loss of sales (i.e. the financial damages you incurred)
You need a lawyer, they should be able to work for compensation and tack it onto the requested damages
You'll also need to prove that they made an error rather than you yourself -- hopefully they've admitted this in writing (email)
Even having a lawyer send them a letter of intent may be useful to make them actually do their job and prioritize it
But don't send it unless you'll follow through on suing them, its basically a "fix it or else" letter, but if you don't follow through it means they won't take you seriously anymore

Yeah that's where I was checking - there's no mention of anything expiring - also, In all the time I've operated a business, I've never had to do anything like this before - and it erases your current tax info if you do the interview again - none of those things are feeling right - if anything, there should just be a button stating "My tax information has not changed" - nothing more, no potential "submission errors and account closures" and such. Especially in the middle of a sale.

I remember them saying any asset on the marketplace license will be removed from sale at some point in 2025 so I would update it to a fab product and take these marketplace ones down if you plan to continue supporting and selling these. The old marketplace portal is defunct, you need to create a seller account on fab and make fab products, they had a migration tool but I don’t know if it’s still available

Yeah that might be the case if he is logged in with his epic account, the two products with those names and thumbnails on fab never got officially migrated over in September and if he owns them then they may show as free

So I have to disbale things like Fab, in-engine modeling tools, web video player, etc. etc. going over hundreds of plugins and leaving only the bare minimum.

Go into your uproject file and see what plugins it’s referencing. That’s what they go off of
To be clear, I didn't add any plugins to the project. The project is a template. The only plugins there are the engine default plugins, minus a few that I already disabled.
My uproject file just had "disabled" flag for several, there were 0 enabled through it :\

After that resubmit it with the new files and if they reject it again send in a support ticket asking for extra clarification on what plugins are causing it to fail the review process.

sometimes fab reviewers are contractors and not trained properly, I’ve had instances where after asking for clarification they told me it was a internal process error and not my fault

Issue is my product was being given away. Its supposed to be $45 and they had it up for free up until about an hour or so ago, now they have taken it down. I did not authorize either which is a direct breach of the seller contract, Fab's and UnrealEngine's both. Also I have no access to the actual products, it appears I do but my changes are not live. This has been the case for 3 weeks ago. I have 12 support tickets in but I have received no return correspondence to my support request for the last 2 and nothing has changed besides removing my product without my permission. I am not sure why some want to minimize when corporations do things like this. I have lost several hundred dollars in revenue as of yet. Not a small issue to me and anyone else who cares and respects intellectual property.

Their EULA only is valid for "Finished" games and that assets or tools and plugins are not covered under it. They tried to come after me saying I was using 3rd party content (textures that can fit a Daz model) they claimed they had rights to my textures because they can fit on a Daz figure. This is wrong. There is no intellectual property or copyright law that supports this. If it was a Finished game it wouldn't matter if it did but I or anyone else is not protected unless they have a finished game. Luckily it didn't apply at all.

and over the holidays. I resubmitted the interview (in my case details did change)
the support is pretty bad. I had an issue with one of my products where the personal price was missing from the live version. I made three tickets and they did not seem to get it and just told me to update it, I followed up on every one with no response aterwards. it was an bug on their part in the end but it took 2 months to fix
the bad part is the hyperwallet needs activation again, but it seems to be automatic, hopefully can get it done today
I've been selling things on unreal and unity for 8 years now and I've always had to retake the tax interview. Unity is the same, you have to complete it again, it doesn't leave information saved. I had to do both this month.
How am I able to choose the UE version when I'm downloading an Unreal Project from Fab like Lyra for 5.5?
Either it only comes as the 1 engine or you dont have other engine versions installed.
I have 5.4 and 5.5 and when downloading Lyra it came as 5.2
If its a fresh install of the engine(s), close and reopen the epic launcher. That might kick it in the pants.

Seems like a version of Lyra is already installed to your vault cache (indicated by the Cache Size: 5.1 GB text), which is why you cannot install a newer version. Click on the little down arrow next to the Create Project (before the screen you see in the image) and click on the Clear Cache, then click on Create Project again

I've been selling for around 6 years on here, and been in business since the early 90's. Like I said, I've only ever had to click on "My Details haven't changed" for other systems.

Given people own a lot of assets that they may forget about it would not be wise to hide assets you already own, it will just continue telling you that you own it so you know not to click it. They may add a filter but that would not be a priority for them.

I was talking about an option to filter assets when looking for new ones, of course, which is a key feature specially when after years the amount of owned assets can be kinda overwhelming. Once the sales feature rolls out for creators it will have products on sale every day of the year, right now it’s still in beta and only supported for event sales. The next one is on the 25th
I don’t think it’s good UX to hide products you own, that can create issues with mispurchasing stuff, increased refunds due to mispurchasing, make assets be used less due to people forgetting about them, and overall hurts sellers. Just saying “owned” is fine, if you own all the products of a category then there is no reason to search in that category since you own what you need
Especially with epics giveaways, people may look for a product only to find out they already own what they need, I’ve done that before with stuff
That's good to know. I was kinda sure I was just not informed about Epic's specific plans {all I knew were those we all I guess have recently seen were scheduled by them} due to the amount of different stuff I'm busy with, so I was trying to keep me up to date on that.
Uhm... I guess it's something kinda personal, I believe many would find that filter option kinda useful when not a must. I've personally seen others pointing out how useful that would be.. personally I give up searching and purchasing assets if I have to struggle spotting unowned assets throughout walls of listed owned ones. How to install UI Material Lab plugin? I'm using 5.44, and it supports up to 5.4. But I can't install it via fab.
annoyingly the UI sorts by createdAt when really the more meaningful metric is publishedAt which you can stick in the URL bar
but it does mean that you're incentivized to get approved and publish ASAP or people scanning Newest will never see your product
Try restarting the launcher and uninstalling any cache files for that asset if you previously installed it
it's always been so annoying trying to keep track of new releases when new products just pop up on the second or even third page, especially since it's always the interesting systems and code stuff that takes that long to approve

I'm reviewing unreal/Fab's 'NoAi' tag terms for a project. In the terms it has the line below
“Generative AI Programs” means artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, or similar technologies designed to automate the generation of or aid in the creation of new content, including but not limited to audio, visual, or text-based content.
Just looking for a second opinion. Would you consider a computer vision project that's designed to just label the contents of images to fall under this. eg, this a human, this a car etc. The resulting data won't be used in any form of generative ai training to create content (like openai, stable diffusion).

Downloaded other fab plugin just to confirm in general download works fine.
this exposes an issue with the label, that it conflates:
- a desire to avoid supporting models trained on proprietary data
- a desire to avoid assets with potential copyright liabilities
- a desire to avoid ai-generated slop
there's also a whole-or-partial element to it. sometimes you see assets with AI-generated placeholders, like background paintings or book covers, where most of the asset isn't AI generated
also a bit unclear how you'd classify assets which use grant access to generative models. they are not created with ai, but let you create with ai
I think it is left intentionally vague to give them a bit of leeway in terms of what they decide to allow and disallow
leeway is where creativity flourishes. Its a good thing

Quick question, I used my personal Epic account to publish a plugin on FAB, and somehow I'm unable to access it or add it to my library "as a user" -- is this expected? i.e I can't add my own plugin to my library of assets (I tried logout/refresh/all the things, "add to my library" is simply not available)

I think that app is abandoned, I recommend using substance designer and painter instead or something like instamat which is free for indies

Not having a wishllist prevented me from buying like 10 assets in the future already because I also dont want to put in the effort to set up a list somewhere to keep track. I used a browser extension but my anti virus cleaned all my browser data so I also lost those assets too which were like 30.

I think the reason people are complaining about fab needing to hurry up is because they announced the release date and was late by about a year and a half. People assumed that the year and a half was spent ensuring features like wishlists were working properly. The solution I think people actually wanted was to delay the announcement of fab so that they are nearly done development before people even know about it. But I understand what you mean by the wishlist feature never existed, but some people (me included) thought the extra time they were spending on the launch would ensure those features would be included

I know you have figured it out but for future reference, the epic launcher seems to have slow loading that isn't indicated by any form of progress bar. You can't install anything during this. Perhaps it waits for the whole vault to load first? I have no idea

I can’t wrap my head around it, I can’t fathom how it was all approved to begin with. But like any massive project it likely boils down to devs being given an insane deadline, was rushed due to executive decisions who were surrounded by yes men. And it stumbled from there. I’m probably simplifying it but that has been the gist of every questionable bit of planning Ive encountered throughout my career
Definitely easier said than done, this was a massive undertaking, and Epic is a huge ship to steer overall. Easy to say in hindsight, and I’m sure some tough calls were made. But at least we’ll get to where we were within a year if their roadmap is anything to go by.

We can try and talk about these little technicalities of what is more correct, but I think that the customer is more correct in this case, and I would be one of those customers. You see, I can't remember all of the things that I had wishlisted, so now I'm just not gonna buy anything. Wether we actually had a wishlist or not is irrelevant at that point if you ask me.
yea that wishlist thing was a massive fail, and idk how they set their internal priorities at the moment, but apparently it's something else... (because implementing a wishlist is pretty trivial)
what may have happened is that they joined the teams from several marketplaces which then tends to be chaotic if they used different frameworks/etc. so maybe there's still internal friction 🤷
They said they are aiming to release basically everything on the roadmap "until spring" and "in the next number of months." The only things they expect to come later in 2025 are things like "Fab Desktop". Out of 9 points, wishlists and text reviews are number 7 and 8, so don’t expect them for a while.

Okay, this is a bit confusing. Are we sure we're getting Professional license of the current giveaway Newtonian Falling and Momentum Damage System? Because UI indication is not perfectly clear whether or not you get professional license.
Once I check my transaction log in my account page I see that the price value doesn't even match to pro license but to personal license which makes me believe it's not pro license we're getting.

Just had a classic Fab moment. Found an interesting asset with less than 2 stars, but there's no reviews so I have no idea why people are rating it so low 
posted an update to a fab plugin and the Rocket thing they are running to build the plugin is hallucinating and generating errors on classes that are not even in the latest / submitted plugin... Even Ctrl+Shift+F to be sure...
Locally everything builds fine.
From their build server it's referencing old version classes with the newly submitted update and complaining about duplicates.. there are no duplicates...
Weird, theres probably a bug on their build farm/server , its pulling the wrong files or contaminating them

you want to account for recency to some degree, and give new assets a chance to be seen
but there is just too much stuff out there for it to be arbitrarily ordered
and reviews/ratings/question data are too sparse for most assets to rely on
Also today I saw some swimming animations, on sale looking at it, it had 3.6 stars, which had no meaning to me. Was it just to expensive, where they not compatible with ue4 or ue5, where there some other issues, or just poor quality.

Epic should be the ones to determine what is quality, if they ever decide to implement that feature.
To be completely frank with you Dan, you and most people on fab would likely never make another sale if they took what you want and implemented it into their discovery algorithm. The assets that would get pushed would be the ones that sell dozens to hundreds of units a month, this would essentially create an unfair marketplace where only the rich can succeed due to having large marketing budgets to solve the chicken and egg problem this idea creates.
Last I checked the shaders you make don’t qualify for the requirements to be seen as a top seller
Steam also doesn’t just push top sellers, they push all games, top sellers have extra store placement but all games do get a chance through algorithmic stuff at some point
Even Steam does not give much placement without existing quality signals. A new game with no sales gets basically zero visibility.
Steam is not a charity to indie developers. If they're showing a game it's because they think it will sell.
Ultimately if there are 2,000 potion models, it doesn't serve anyone's interest to show the 2,000th best potion in anyone's search result except its creator. The results should be relevant to the search but otherwise it serves everyone best (except creators of sub-par assets) to show the best-selling results of comparable relevance.
Personally I don't worry too much. I'm only interested in making one-of-one assets that aren't in direct competition for anything.
I do care about people finding Fab useful, easy to use, and have a reputation for serving quality.

Ultimately the point of Fab is to generate revenue for Epic, directly through sales and indirectly through empowering developers to make video games that sell and generate Unreal royalties.
These things happen in proportion to how often a buyer decides to use Fab, finds something that will help them, and then buys it and has a good experience with it. Sellers benefit from this, but the point of this benefit is to incentivize them to make more and better assets that people want to buy.
It doesn't help to incentivize people to make more assets of lower quality in crowded categories! They should be disincentivized from doing so!
The closest billionaire here would probably be Peter Thiel saying "Competition is for losers" eg. any in any business category with too much fungibility margins will eventually go to zero due to competition

Really, the biggest opportunity for Fab is to help incentivize development of more high-end assets and fewer low-end assets, by creating a marketplace that succeeds in connecting buyers with those high-end assets at the highest price they can bear. So you can fund more high-end developers pouring years of work into stuff like Ultra Dynamic Sky, Fluid Flux, and so forth, because those assets massively elevate what you can do in Unreal Engine for absurdly low cost to their users.
One more asset like that would help everyone in the ecosystem more than, say, Potions #2001-5000

I'm very late to that discussion, but if you don't use the Unreal filter, you'll have a whole lot of low-quality SketchFab assets. Removing the Unreal filter is like going on 4chan to get a glimpse of that internet thing.

And here, epic either needs to advice the sellers to categorize their migrated stuff correctly, or do it by themselves.

New categories were created and assigned when assets were migrated to fab.
And they do advise them. I was asked to change something when I submitted a tool recently. But ultimately it is up to the sellers discretion.
The marketplace had over 3000 decal packs..

I’m just telling that that is how it is set up right now. Sellers determine which category things go into at the moment. So if someone has an environment pack and puts it under characters for whatever reason, he dumb.
Smart assets and Tools/Plugins are somewhat vague terms so its not exactly surprising that things kinda get mixed there. A smart asset can be considered a tool of sorts.

I bought assets on Fab, but when I try to download them in the Epic Games Store, the download stops by itself after just one second. (I need to create a project to download the assets.) For other projects/assets, the download works perfectly. If you have any solutions, I’m all ears!

@undone valve Not really, I think they have to play the infamous "look for the orange dot" game. They then have to update it and add it to project
If it's a plugin, luckily the dot shows up right under the relevant engine version and you can update through the installed plugins tab. For assets however, have fun scrolling for the next 10 minutes wondering what needs the update
They will see a update button next time they install it but fab is planning some form of patch notes and product specific forum pages in the next couple months, you will probably still need some way to notify users though unless the wishlist feature notifies of updates
It seems there was a sales reporting bug recently in the fab portal.
The last few days since 24th, I didn't see any sales on my end. I also didn't see any sales for yesterday a little while ago. But checking it now, I saw a sale for yesterday as well as the day before.
It's possible a sale happened but there is a delay in the reporting

The only day there was a problem was the 26th; it updated 2 days later than it should have (the 27th even came before the 26th). "Today's"(28th) report came 2 hours late, but 2 hours isn’t a problem, I guess. However, 2 days was definitely weird.

You can claim them on fab and on the quixel megascans site. Then you can use quixel bridge for a few days. Then the fab team should provide a new solution trough fab
so I don't need to download assets?

Im thinking this might be the best place to ask, Say for example I have a asset I downloaded which is the following 100 Sword Animations but I want to use 10 of them and then another asset which has 50 fire materials and i want to use 2 of them, How would you clean up the "lefttovers" from the asset packs (ofc this can get super messy if you have multiple asset packs etc), Just wondered if theres a bettter solution than importing them packs into an empy project and then importing them into your main project ??
@feral lotusthats pretty much the workflow. new project with the temporary assets then migrate what you need to your project.

Having an issue with Quixel Bridge. When I open it, the pages don't update/render unless I drag the title bar or drag the scroll bar.
E.g. if I open Quixel Bridge and do nothing, I'm just presented a blank page. But if I drag the title bar it will render the initial page. From that point, if I click on a link within the quixel window nothing will happen--until I once again drag the title bar/scroll bar and then the page will finally update as if I've clicked on something
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Quixel Bridge plugin, as well as re-downloading the engine, but to no avail

Because AMS (and any other Asset Manager) needs mostly full disk access via flatpak to be able to see any of your vaults, and projects if they aren't in your home directory. Mostly full disk access for flathub generates that warning. People stick their vaults & projects in other places like /opt, /Unreal or (I even had one person tell me they used /usr/local/unreal for the vault directory, and the flathub version won't work for that path and now need to add a error for that corner case to the code base 😅 ) .
Btw, Flathub is actually lying, I'm not getting FULL disk access but actually mostly full disk access, AMS does not add ANY of the extra access privs for /etc or /usr (& a couple other system directories) to the flathub version. If you stick your vault in their, sorry, use the appimage or apk I'm not going to add any system dir's to the requested directory list for the flatpak version... 😉
Btw, if you only store your vaults, projects, and engines inside your home directory, then you can actually run the flathub command to REMOVE the mostly full disk access, as AMS only defaults to asking for full disk access because I'm not going to be dealing with the support headache of "why doesn't AMS see my vault here: /somepath/somewere/" on the flatpak version. AMS is perfectly happy with more limited disk privs as long as all your stuff is inside the home directory as the default flatpak disk privs give access to...

according to fab road map, its one of the last things by priority so you’re probably not going to see those for a year or 2 unless many people/sellers push for it
Fab needs a license type for objects that have uses outside redistribution for stuff like this. Content creators would buy this but if a game bought and used this it would be an issue. Granted he isn’t being deceptive about where it’s from so if a gamedev uses this they are just dumb but still
No, they said in the livestream the roadmap is gonna take about 3-4 months to complete and that’s towards the end of the roadmap so probably not until march or April will those be available. They likely will do a Easter sale in February, on epic games store epic does a event sale like every 6 weeks
They are finishing up the first section of the roadmap now, so they should be moving onto the second section starting in January

And second question: Are there guides for naming convention and folder structures for UE5 when selling on fab? 3d assets/packs? Or do ue5 projects also not really get monitored anymore like the rest of the stuff?
You can edit listings, just needs to go through approval first, can take a day or so.
Hi I got an email prompting me verify whether I am a trader or non trader. Back in the UE marketplace days, it was simple, I just chose that I am an individual selling assets on the marketplace but the new guidelines given by Epic is vague and has got me very confused. Doesn't some of the guideline automatically make you a trader? like for the first point about selling things for profit, but isnt that what we already do on fab like sell things to make money on fab? for the Third point, just being on fab, you're automatically selling in large volumes anyway? Do these automatically make you a trader? What are the guidelines for a non-trader?
I don't own a business but I sell assets as a hobby in the UK, am I considered a non-trader? 😕
Fab's wording isn't very clear, but all this relates to the Digital Service Act, and the legal definition of "trader" can be found here:
‘trader’ means any natural or legal person who, in commercial practices covered by this Directive, is acting for purposes relating to his trade, business, craft or profession and anyone acting in the name of or on behalf of a trader;
I don't know if any lawyer weighed in on who qualifies for this role in Fab's world, but a safe interpretation could be that any commercial activity makes you a trader. Some argue that if that commercial activity is not your main source of income, then you qualify as a non-trader, but I don't know if this has real legal ground.
All of this is very new and rather untested by the courts, so I'm guessing there's no easy answer on that.

If you are a trader the only change is that your name is on your seller page.
Seems like most quixel stuff has become paid now but if you clicked that claim button last year, you will be able to download them through their profile

It's mostly about EU law and that Fab has to disclose info about your company when you are a trader.
I think you need some sort of business registration to be a trader.

Here my question... is it just me or Epic made something about Personal and Professional licenses' purchase preventing from buying both now as soon as one of the two was purchased? Previously, in the doubt, I purchased both which was kinda annoying but if what I've noticed now is right I definitely welcome the fact they found a final solution to the doubts on the matter.

My guess is, because you got the notification that you crossed the threshold in december, you’ll get paid when we all get our december sales payment.
If you were crossing the 100$ threshold monthly, you’d always be getting paid one month after the end of the month of sales. I can only assume that things are a bit different because you arent hitting the threshold every month.
So, theres a free product which had good features but apparently the author removed most of its features to put them in the paid version

Also they might remove features for multiple valid reasons.
Eg, if the feature they removed required more support than what the price justified.
I would if that feature, especially for free product, requires more support than my paid products. basically spending more time on it but its not really doing anything for me financially.
Also, epic does retain the previous versions on their servers, so you can still use the previous versions just fine.
At the time you buy a plugin, you are buying it as is. You're not guaranteed feature updates or even a building API for newer UE versions...
Epic is just a reseller that takes 12%.

The only thing you can report them for is if the description of their product at the time of buying does not match what you get. if they change the description before you buy its fair game
In the past, I removed a small „feature“ from one of my products, but this allowed me to improve the product greatly and add countless new things.
I’d say it is a huge ethical concern if it was a paid product that they took features away from. But it was free? Then it’s totally fair game.
How do I get an update for an asset on fab? I have a plugin installed to engine and they released an update multiple days ago which the fab page even shows. But I have no button to update the plugin or anything (it did not automatically update either, I am missing the new features)

Megascans are in their own category on Fab, they don’t show up in the library, they have their own section for that. If you claim them, then you own the items you claimed, but any future megascans that get released won’t be owned unless you buy them.

I recently found out that Fab has uploaded two faulty files onto their servers, severely impacting the functionality of my asset packs.
I have sold a couple copies of these packs but I have no idea if my customers are getting what they paid for!
No questions and I don't even know if my product is being reviewed or not.
I've solved a handful of issues on my product thanks to the review system they had in place, even turned a 4 start review into a 5 start before, now we are left in the dark to gamble whether or not customers are getting what they paid for or not, it's beyond infuriating and this is no way to run a business.
If there was an alternative to FAB, I'd move but there is no competition, they hold a monopoly over the marketplace now and it's a complete disaster.
I crossed the $100 threshold in November. I think they ballsed up during the crossover from the old system.
The new system must have a software bug.

Yes, I have received a reply but it wasn't admitting there was an issue so I've requested escalation. It being a weekend when there are less relevant staff available is not helping I think.
I think that the "Payout" staff probably don't work the weekend.
Recently I had a bunch of 1 star review and it took my a while to understand why because of the lack of information.
Turn out they changed the folder name of my tool and that was generating error...

What kind of error? Some of my products had several 1 star reviews pop up recently too with none of them seeking support
To give you an idea my tool that was affected was Massive World. It had 1 one star in 9 months, and then suddenly 4 one stars in 2 weeks.
Turn out that the main folder name was changed by FAB which was creating compile errors with my editor tools so it was just not compiling at all and it made the tool not working
I'm not the only publisher that had this problem, and without the written reviews it take a lot of time to realize that. I found the problem when someone took the time to report it

Yeah not saying it's bad, but mostly that those 1 stars don't reflect the quality of my work because the chances are high that I got those one stars based on bugs that was implemented after I sent my tool to FAB
Try imagining going from a nice maxed 5.0 ratings for a long time and then suddenly plunging into a 4.6 in a week, all for something that isn't your fault. That will really suck.

A 5.0 rating seems perfect but makes people subconsciously suspicious since it doesn't feel natural or authentic. We instinctively know nothing is truly perfect.
A 4.9 for example actually feels more trustworthy because those few minor criticisms make all the positive reviews more believable. It's a quirk of human psychology where slight imperfection is more convincing than perfection.

Yeah one big hotel chain called "Ritz-Carlton" is doing this for example. They intentionally place mediocre chocolate on guests pillows knowing some guests will mention this minor issue in reviews. This calculated strategy gives their reviews more credibility because if the worst thing people can complain about is the chocolate quality, it suggests everything else must be truly excellent.
People will find a problem regardless of the product is good, even say my product was damaged and rate it a low star lol

Yeah I do this on steam, when a game has a 100% positive review rating I get suspicious because you need a lot of players to get multiple reviews and the likelihood everyone positively likes your product is astronomically rare
There was a gamedev on YouTube who I think faked his steam reviews because he had 1600 90%+ positive score on steam but in his video he only sold 6-7k copies of his game and it was a rage game making the perfect score even more unlikely
He had a high refund rate too at like 500 refunds I think out 7k copies
Is it possible to revoke keys from users? One of the members in my server is purposefully distributing my asset to other members of my server who do not own the asset. I am worried if i release my next update he will update and also redistribute that. I have banned him but he is purposefully joining on alt accounts to keep on redistributing it for free on purpose. Fight unethical with unethical. Make an announcement on your discord that a disgrunted user is spreading malware through "free" versions of your project and tell them not to click any links from them. When it comes to malware who is going to believe that someone is giving away something free?

I have no idea to be honest lol, I doubt they would go through the effort, i think they are just doing it out of spite from being banned. But they very well could be to be honest but I havent seen any proof of it yet from the project files
The place they are reaching users from is YOUR Discord server. You control it, and they have no other way to reach users who might want to buy your asset. Make your Discord server closed to new users, ban users who might be them (probably recent ones), and, if Discord has an option to hide the members, use it. Alternatively, create private channels for every single member of the Discord and grant them access only to their own channel. Bottom line, you just need to destroy their ability to chat with other users in your Discord.
