1 messages ยท Page 74 of 1
I'll make a game about my 5 year struggle to win a gamejam ๐
I'm gonna do "Herb Tycoon" and then go "Time, not THYME f*ck!"
Theme sounds like something Trump would say
People are saying it's the best time
I submitted so many times it became statistical improbable i never won a raffle ๐
That's because I won 2 times
I think we all need to think this over while playing a game that has to do with time
Prince of Persia @dense gulch ? ๐
or something that takes a long time <insert S joke here>
@hardy talon or assasins creed
my choice is Hades i guess, doesn't have to do with time but it takes a fuckton of it to beat it
i dont know why, but valorant game scenes blow up in my mind
If you want some fun inspiration, you can send a direct message to Manny with !gameidea to get a randomly generated game idea.
@civic dock eyy good idea
I might try make something in 4.26 usin control rig, but the odds of it not working in packaged might be high
Nobody steal this idea

Caps is just because I copy/pasted, ๐
thanks
Yeah see, the second part of the statement feels like it should be a co-op thing
maybe i should make a game about this discord conversation
got a game idea
implication on the "we're" part
cause it's been a long time since we been here and no one has a clue
Theme literalism is the bane of jammers everywhere
bioshock game
I agree mcsquare, multiplayer is always off-limits to me in jams though ๐
what about couch co-op
local multiplayer
Hmm, could work!
!gameidea
@rocky raven, Check your direct messages. :incoming_envelope:
'We' can also mean something that extends beyond the individual. Societies, cultures, species.
So, tell me guys, how do you "call" a nuclear reactor? (Excluding the obvious phone call or anything equivalent)
i remember one of last year's jam winners was a couch coop
I always just default to "Make Journey but with blank" singleplayer things
million dollar idea there my guy
the one with the spaceship and trying to knock others off
call it "US simulator"
(it's a joke pls no offend ty)
well gg

i should chat in this ds more often, u lot are jokes
as in you guys are fun for anyone not british here
such a british thing to say
I'm not not british
hmmm but are you british enough? we must compare crumpets
how is that theme relevant to bioshock
cause the game is a long time game
!gameidea
@sinful fractal, Check your direct messages. :incoming_envelope:
the hard part is coming up with a game that doesn't need a lot of assets so i don't lose points
just Limbo it
My current train of thought seems too complicated...
or maybe the game is the train
Meanwhile I'm here trying to think how to condense all of human history into a game jam
what about ice age
easy, make up your own history. They can't prove you wrong! Artifacts? pft props made by nasa and bill gates, Old documentations? Pft straight out of HP lovecraft, monuments? Styrofoam structures
Just trying to think in broad strokes, nothing too granular yet
A game where you must defend your small business against overreaching government oversight
Games are supposed to be an escape from reality scooty
But its been a long time and we are not done yet
@wind jolt ye that hits a bit too close to home
You don't lose points for using pre-made assets, you just don't gain them. So if your game is centered around a beautiful fountain, if you made that fountain it might get you points in the visual category, but if you didn't make it, you can still get just as many points for the things you did make.
you play an essential worker who has to go around sanitizing things for points...
a game about lost child trying to find his family
oh ye that's what i meant but i'm greedy and want all the points
!gameidea
@feral wind, Check your direct messages. :incoming_envelope:
But using pre-made assets could improve your score if it improves the aesthetic of the things you did create. Like if you make a plaza and it's beautiful, but really needs a fountain to tie it together, but you don't have the time to make the fountain itself, I could see that increasing your score by recognizing the need for it and including it (but I'm not a judge so I can't say for sure)
why are you using logic against me? this is 2020 i'll get you banned if u do it again
Ohhh Manny might have actually given me an idea, hmmm
Because I see a lot of people misunderstanding the asset thing and I don't like people to be limited in their creativity ๐
!gameidea
@indigo wing, Check your direct messages. :incoming_envelope:
I always get the initial visual coolness, but trying to figure out what the core loop is is so hard
OR I'm being purposefully misleading to make you LOSE POINTS so that I can WIN
LOL
lmao
I always use assets though
I always do Army of One so I kind of need them else I have gray boxes and nothing more
ye same, army of one is my thing as well. I'd love to work in a team but i want the loot so that wouldn't work out
oh wait the whole team gets one of each right?
ignore me
I think in the past there were rewards where if the first place team had five people it would go randomly to one of the five, but I'm not 100% on that. Nowadays it looks like all prizes are evenly split amongst teams.
A game where you fight waves of zombies in cyberspace, but there's a catch: you can't jump.
So the optimal play is to make something solo, but submit it as a team of 5 so when you obviously manage to win like that you get 5x the prizes.
(Please don't do that)
But you're in space why would you wanna jump?
True but then you're actually competing against a team of 5
or at least more people than you
its from Manny game idea
oh xD i think manny is short-circuiting due to all the requests
where is there live my dudessssssssssssssssssssssssss
that is acually a really good one now that u mention it xD
it's over now i think
it'll be uploaded to youtube tonight i think
the theme is: IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME BUT WE'RE NOT DONE YET (in case you missed it)
ah fair i tuned out right after the theme to come here
Is the launcher currently not allowing new engine installs for anyone else?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
what!?
Is that a yes?
I installed 4.26 like 30 minutes ago just fine
this theme is so weird I don't have literally any idea what to do
I'm dumb. I had already clicked the add new engine version button, so it wouldn't let me click it again. I didn't see it added an un-installed one to my bar I had to confirm ๐
YOU - "Baby, I'm so sorry"
DOLORES - "I'm tired of all this. We are done, Harry"
YOU - "Baby, please, I know it's been a lot of time, but we are not done yet"
ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Oh, come on, just let her go, I have some bottles in the room.
Indeed. I'm just using it for story purposes, since I don't know how to integrate it with gameplay. Usually their topics are a bit out there but this one takes the cake.
I adore UE4 jam themes.
i have always been discouraged by the themes
I'd highly encourage you to take a good few hours to think about themes. You can do really creative things with them, they can almost always be worked mechanically into the game.
you just gave me idea for a game lol, ty
does it fit to the theme about a zombie game?
We've got a week, so there really isn't any need to start programming immediately. Design and ideation are important steps.
OR I'M JUST SAYING THAT SO I CAN GET A HEADSTART AND WIN
OH IT'S ON
That having been said, I have fallen in love with my dumb idea, and I am starting to prototype it
Yeah but what if at the end of the week it feels like it's been a long week, but I'm not done yet
I usually just start with Untitled Project 1 (Working Title)
i need some creativity enhancing substances when I get home
oooh how much a gram?
I feel like we should do drug tests to maintain the spirit of fair play ๐
winners don't use drugs, or so i've been told
can i use the megascans?
Yes to megascans
ah yes only use the ones that your government says you can use
oh so DMT
๐คฏ
should i go for a zombie game for the theme????

That's funny
Please be posting ominous things about your ideas and projects to #UnrealJam twitter so I have ominous things to read ๐
me love you long time, not done yet
Anyone know of any in-engine examples of 'timelapse', similar to nature documentaries where you see the slow change of a plant growth, or tides changing, but much faster? Wondering if there are some techniques to fake some of the shifting/movement in that shaky/timelapse way.
is using assets from the store (like templates) must be included in the assets used list at submission (even if the assets don't require attribution) ?
Yes it's not related to attribution - You have to list all assets that were premade. This includes the official samples.
Usually that shows up from slow natural movements being sped up significantly, so you could use the default wind and just make the period WAY faster, or have a camera with a VERY FAST sway (not really a shake, since you don't want it choppy, you want it to be smooth, but so fast it looks choppy anyways) I guess @hardy talon
will it affect the judging ?
Might be hard to fake convincingly and not have it just end up looking silly
Hmm yeah, I figured it's going to be a case of doing all the actual motion but speeding it up
I'd start by just seeing what the default wind looks like when played at hyperspeed.
Might be able to do some fast panning of masks on certain surfaces to fake aging/change
"NOTE: Sourced (non-original) assets are allowed but will not be reviewed and scored.
Example 1: A scene with environment art from the marketplace could get points for lighting and composition, but the pre-made assets wouldn't.
Example 2: A scene with sourced audio could get points for implementation (spatialization, real-time modulation, etc), but the sourced audio wouldn't."
Good idea, thanks!
@tranquil matrix thanks that is actually better
I wasn't able to catch the livestream; what was the theme for this one?
Do we get bonus points for hilarious puns as our project names?
Sounds like a freeway repair project
@rugged plaza Thank you
@rugged plaza an end road building game with little yellow dozers and munchin workers

@tranquil matrix Could you please elaborate on "Submissions must be appropriate for a broad audience". Wouldn't something as simple as a (realistic) Zombie Shooter like some mentioned here violate that rule? Is only pg 13 or below content eligible.
I finally have my theme. Thanks Manny!

Experimental water features you say
What's the difference between tool and asset ? cause sometimes the distinction is blurry.
Example 1: Are the smart materials in Quixel Mixer assets or is it a feature of the tool ?
Example 2: Is the water un UE 4.26 an asset ?
@tranquil matrix Save question for assets that have been so heavily modified to the point of being unrecognizable. (Like using a lot of audio FX to distord a pre-recorded sound and create someting new based on that)
i think the keywords were โjudged on visualsโ and non default setups.

Hi guys.
We use Plugins at work, but I do not owe them
I am entering as a solo dev.
Can I use them in the MegaJam?
Depends on the license you own
But probably not I would guess.
Idk for sure, but you dont own it for private purposes
And if I sign up some colleges? And we throw what we got together?

Example 1: Are the smart materials in Quixel Mixer assets or is it a feature of the tool ?

@slate sail
Quixel stuff is a third party asset source, must be credited for every single material/asset
Water is an engine feature, no credit needed

Kung Flu
same as example using stuff like make human etc etc?
@nimble sphinx what do you mean by a share project? that we submit our project from the same itch.io acc?
@wheat beacon yes, any third party asset is disqualified of scoring for creation. It can still receive points for implementation
@wheat beacon no score no penalty as long as you announce it was premade in the submission form. But while they dont score for a mega scan tree, they do score a lit scene and composition.
@azure reef a project you work on together. You can take his stuff and make your own game with it. The owner has to be an active developer
but make human counts or that type of programs counts as as not making it???? then better yet not use blender or 3d modelling or even better no engine lol
its no like the program does not need work on it :/
but oh well
bro, Blender is a creation tool, Quxel is a library, Makehuman is shady, pretty sure you have to credit it
I cant think of a game idea yet. Last time it took me a whole day
@nimble sphinx Well quixel's Mixer a creation tool
Everything not from scratch is basically third party; except some procedural stuff, but thats a shady line
the scratch part is completly shady
@slate sail yeah, using library assets. If you Mix your own materials, you dont need credit
Pretty sure you cant use Mixer and circumvent any credit to Quixel
blender + manuel bastelioni still blender...
and everything but anyway you answered my question โค๏ธ thank you
@wheat beacon it is, the rules are not very clear. Basically any premade asset is credit required, Quixel stuff is premade, so credit
yeah quixel i do undestand
maybe if you just use the material and make your own model
theres a 50 50 there
Houdini procedural stuff is questionable, plugins and stuff like that are tools, stuff made by using them is from scratch, no credit required, maybe a mention to stay on the clean side
Its questionable if you bake it to a model
@wheat beacon credit the material/textures?
ofcourse i will list everything just like knowing how they evaluate
If you use mixers PBRs I think it is 50/50 but you could announce it as "house texture painted in Quixel Mixer"
ye if your game looks very good and you have very little credit, thats gonna be kinda sus
So the testure painting is still done during
Hey folks, just an FYI: this channel and #game-jam-lfg are about to move around a bit. Wanted to give you a heads up so you weren't confused!
But the texture existed before. Half credit
Well, no score for creation, but score for implementation I guess
If in doubt, just explain what the source assets were and what you did to them. Let the judges be the judge.

the smart gloves are caugth up on border cuz covid....
$2 all black jumpsuit from wish.com, $1.50 for a bag of cotton balls to put all over the suit, $40 for a kinect, $5 for the wires needed to solder, and bobs your uncle ๐
too bad kinect doesnt work like that

You mean the theme? "It's been a long time but we're not done yet"?
Unlike some previous themes, seems this is not an existing saying...
"It's been a long time" - This means some time pas passed, lots of time
"but we're not done yet" - This means something still needs to happen
hmmmm so confusing xD
The theme does not make it easy to get a good game idea, this is probably why many people are typing !gameidea - get get suggestions from the bot
Right. For example: Maybe you finally finished a long task, but now it turns out there is still more work to be done.
ahhhhh thx i get it now ๐

Maybe I should add a channel for voice chat links, so it doesn't confuse people here.
The other voice channels have that and it seems to work well.

@civic dock you need to take responsibilty if that game ever gets released xD
Game: Playable
imagine if somebody would release a game from a bot idea ๐
We had a game jam once where the theme was pick an idea from the bot.
We could do it again with Manny if there's enough interest.
nice, manny gave me an idea and used the word time
That's actually on my list. I'd love to build a replacement for Crowdforge into Manny.
It was unfortunate how they suddenly vanished.
Nah. It would work very similarly to the job board.
I am so utterly confused on how to interpret this theme ๐
I feel that so much
now put a pencil inside and revert time ๐ฎ
that gives me an idea
a game where you need to get your hands on a cassette and a pencil to revert time but you're in the future
alright we should definitely award free points for having a Cassette in our games
alrighty! ๐ I'll put one in
I knew I should've kept it to myself!
hey! you're setting an easter egg trend @storm blade
I'll live forever in all of your games
I think it'd be great to see a cassette in tons of entries.
I bet Victor would get a kick out of it.
๐ค I have an idea
hello

everyone
I haaaaaaave an idea finally
a game where you just type in an Idea
and then when the player feels happy with their written idea
a UMG element just said
"Great! now make it!"
hence fullfilling the theme
well a wise friend once told me, that the bad ideas eventually lead towards good ones! ๐
That's how it usually goes for me.
I try to explore every idea before trashing them, because of that exact reason: they might lead to good ideas.
how many have their idea for the theme?

I don't feel like I'm a huge fan of the theme, at least at this stage? It feels like a theme that's very easy to interpret narratively but very hard to interpret mechanically, and for me the interesting ideas that come out of jams are the mechanical ones, not the narrative ones.
But we'll see.
you better be making a game about planking
Umm, so some clarification, code plugins are allowed right as long as they're noted as sourced right? It doesnt only apply to art assets?

on windows home edition?
yeah errors out installation saying it needs hyper-v which... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/reference/hyper-v-requirements
I don't think you're allowed to submit a Hololens game for the jam anyway, regardless of how compelling the symmetry might feel.
Actually, maybe you can? "[Builds] packaged for Windows Mixed Reality" is a little ambiguous.
I was under the impression that was the point of the whole presentation after the announcement and XR category, but I could be mistaken.
Maybe; I didn't watch the livestream.
Last time I used the Hololens emulator it was not a useful tool for real development, but that was a looong time ago; they might have improved it by now.

Genre Bash might be the hardest prize group. Not necessarily the most competition, but just sticking to the theme AND the group requirement. Seems tricky.
hello guys
anybody know if i can use some minor foliage assets from quixel megascans? is that allowed ?
Yes. You can use any premade assets you want. You just need to list them in your submission, and know that they won't count towards your score.
ooh. thanks.
The instructions on itch are a little unclear on that part. Is the intention that when they say "List any content that was created before the jam that was included in the final submission." that also includes any content that was not created by the team (regardless of when it was created)?
Or should content made by others be listed separately from content created by the team pre-jam?
Yes. As it states: if the content was made before the jam, list it in your submission. It doesn't matter who created it.
What if the content was made during the jam, but not by members of the team?
So if you have your own framework, or premade environments, or sounds, those fall into the category of stuff you should list.
Then it probably shouldn't be in the game.
Why would someone outside of your team be making content for you?
Commissioned art? Newly released asset store content?
I don't think you can commission art during the jam. You can have a team of up to 5 people and no more.
As for Marketplace content that releases during the jam, that's still "premade" content.
So you'd list it like any other Marketplace assets used. ๐
whats the current theme? cant find it on megajam itchio
Okay, it sounds like the intention is just "anything not made by the team during the jam". That's very reasonable, I was just pointing out that the wording was a little confusing.
It's been a long time, but we're not done yet @vague scarab
definitely have cassete tapes lying around it'll be our secret community easter egg!
ahh thats the theme :D, thought it meant something else
Yessss.
I would love to see more people get on board with that.
๐ผ
Wrong kind of tape, but you get the idea. ๐
Question: If we make a beautiful, extremely atmospheric walking simulator, but the character movement speed is such that it takes ~2 hours to make it through, will the judges complete the game?
Ah, looking at the contest rules fine print it appears that using content made by team members pre-jam is expressly forbidden anyway; that does made it clearer that that field is intended for sourced assets.
I assume you're referring to this:
Submission must not include assets created prior to the Contest period (outside of noted sourced assets).
That's what I was looking at, yeah.
I'm not 100% sure if that includes, say, tools, templates, or frameworks created by a team member before the jam. Maybe it does, which is kind of a bummer but I could understand why.
If that's the case, it's probably there to discourage cheating by working on your submission before the jam.
Yeah, terms like "assets" and "content" are a little ambiguous. The rules do refer to "art assets" elsewhere, though, which would imply that "assets" is intended to be more broad than just art.
Yeah. It can be tricky, but I think you're correct that it means "assets" broadly speaking.
Whether "assets" includes tools or templates is not clear to me, since you can use tools and templates created by a third party.
That would be consistent, assuming you're expected to list those tools and templates used as "noted sourced assets".
True. I'll try to get clarification tomorrow.
I've decided to put in my all-nighters here, at the beginning, rather than at the end, like college.
I'm sure that would be appreciated! The submission and documentation parts of jams always seem to be the parts a lot of people have trouble with (given the number of people who tend to appear ten minutes before the deadline asking "OMG how do I upload") so making the instructions on what they need to list as clear and thorough as possible would definitely help!
can i use mixamo anim for megajam ?
Yes. Just list it in your submission when they ask to list assets you didn't create yourself.
but its not scored right if i use other assets ?
BTW @glass fossil why did you block me ๐
Correct.

I'm going to go solo, but I have very limited modelling ability. Would I get a better score by trying to model everything low poly myself and going for a simplistic artstyle or using Quixel assets, for example, and building a technically great scene?
im bad at modeling as well
lol
What do you think @civic dock?
very Handy to have!
It depends, but you have to weigh the pros and cons of each approach. Which one will save you time and let you focus on your strengths?
If we talk score only though, in theory, which will get the higher score?
You can use Quixel assets and still get scored on your lighting and composition, for example.
I'm actually not sure whether quality or originality would score higher, or if it's weighted to equally consider both.
and if its not fun, who cares what it looks like...isn't that a huge part of the jam making something fun?
Okay, I'll have to think about that then. Thank you ๐
has something ever won just because it was pretty
My strategy is to write down the 4 judging categories and articulate how I'm planning to address each one.
And that is fair, the largest part should be fun, but visuals is one of the four categories.
Yeah, that's why I'm asking, because it's one of those four.
Unique Use of Contest Theme
Fun Factor
Visuals
Audio
You sometimes can't do all 4 though ๐
Focus on your own strengths
At least in the beginning, get something done. An MVP. Then focus on the other categories as you can ๐
Well I can't tell you how they'll score you, but I can tell you how I'm personally addressing visuals. I will be sourcing pretty much all of my art assets from the Marketplace, but I'm going to add my own unique elements like signs, things appearing on a TV, lighting, post processing, and composition.
Seems like a solid approach. I may have to go the same way.
In my case, I will only be scored on Visuals for the unique elements I'm adding.
The environment assets - models and textures mostly - will be ignored.
Most of my effort is going towards the other three - use of theme, fun factor, and audio (especially audio).
I'm making a short horror game. ๐ป
im just gonna modeling my self ๐
Depends, are you actually good in set dressing?
If you don't have any actual experience working with high quality asset the end product will still look bad, because it takes practice to learn how to set dress an environment well. For a beginner working with low poly models and flat colour material is much easier to get to look right.
If on the other hand you're actually good with set dressing and lighting, probably you might want to use sourced assets to showcase how good you are at that, or alternatively you can use a mix of self made assets and sourced ones, I have friends who got into Ubisoft doing that in their portfolio pieces LOL.
That is exactly what I'm thinking. I have good experience in set dressing, but I'm concerned the end product will still not look as good as I could get it with a stylized theme. I will probably go for a simplified theme.
waht does it mean "the game must include custom gameplay that exceeds the gameplay found in epic gamesโ starter templates". Must we program our game from scratch?
@void siren Pretty sure it means just don't submit the ShooterGame you can download from the marketplace, for example. Submit something more than that.

@eager mango, :8ball: Don't count on it.
Sure thing
dammit and here i am just finished the designs and planning for it
Has anyone actually been able to keep the project under a 100mb?
legend says there are people that achieved it
My fist package attempt failed... Whew.
Smallest until now 120 mb and highest 211mb with different adviced packaging settings, Unreal 4.25. Trying to use the Nano Template on 4.24
@near ice which error message?
PackagingResults: Error: Unhandled exception: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
Yikes
If you use 4.23 (or disable Niagara on newer releases I guess) you can easily drop build size to 60MB if you remove UE4 prerequisites, compile for 32 bit, tick the right boxes in packaging settings, and exclude the default skybox from the build.
Then you have 30MB available which are more than enough if you go for low poly stylised art.
I mean, sounds like either A) you ran out of storage on your drive, or B) your allocated RAM is full?
Either case Iโd recommend running it again, and if that fails restart engine, restart windows, check how much free drive space you have etc. go through the usual suspects.
I was trying packaging an empty project in 4.26 last night. Failed first try for no reason. Ran it again and it worked.
Noped back to 4.23 immediately. The last release I deem as stable, because the engine doesnโt stutter where you resize its windows LOL.
Thank you very much! ๐
Can we make the game multiplayer ๐ค
Of course
no problem. if you wanna more info on what to set in packaging settings, just google โUE4 packaging optimisationโ or something like that. thereโs a whole page on the UE4 website about it
If you think you'll be able to achieve that withing 7 days, sure! There have been a few multiplayer submissions in the past
I am loading 4.24 , do I have to be afraid of bugs ? Is 4.23 better?
about that 100mb... maybe it was a mistake creating the project in max quality.. oops
xD
@azure flicker TY, I'll try those things out.
Yeah thanks man!
@azure flicker, would the packaging process expose any possible very slow memory leaks within my code? Asking for a friend...
Does anyone know if i can include non-licensed music or is Epic particular about stuff like that?
!gameidea
@umbral rover, Check your direct messages. :incoming_envelope:
wait you can re-enable 32 bit compiling?! That's great news ! But I don't think it'll make much difference.
From what I saw 64 bit vs 32 bit is a minimal difference. I think what really makes builds in newer releases that much larger is Niagara and the 2k shaders that come with it.
probably not. Packaging does not execute your code, it just compiles it down into an executable.
What you're thinking about is called an overnight test. Basically in the industry they let games run overnight in idle state, then check the next morning if performance dropped or not. If there's a performance drop it means there's a leak somewhere (and of course they have tools to help pinning it out)
I personally think 4.24 is probably the worst of the latest 4 releases. It does not have the improvements that came in 4.25 helping streamlining some steps in blueprinting, but it does not feel as responsive as 4.23 did.
What I mean is that in 4.23 I could for example resize my editor window and it would be fluid, while since 4.24 it feels choppy and it's clearly not as responsive. Oh and I've experienced frequent crashes for no reason in 4.24 and 4.25. 4.24 definitely has it worse between the 2, while 4.23 I can basically keep it running for like 5 days straight while working with it and it just won't crash.
Only thing that 4.24 had over 4.23 is the first stable Niagara release, but if you need Niagara that's in 4.25 as well where the engine does crash a bit but not as much as 4.24, and if you go 4.26 you only get an handy plugin to convert old particle systems to Niagara. And if you want Niagara and a stable editor you can enable beta Niagara in 4.23
TL;DR:
- 4.23 = missing minor features but no random crashes,
- 4.25/4.26 = bleeding edge features with a few engine crashes,
- 4.24 = the worst of both worlds.
So, I went to package again, and it threw an exception within 5 minutes. It was a PCH exception. so I increased my Page File (to a pretty ridiculous size) and tried again and it seems to be running smoothly. we will see.
The shader is working
Not sure if the judges will be able to sit through 5min of that shader... you will be the only one that they refuse to score xD
Looks cool though.
@azure flicker Friend, I appreciate your help so much! When I woke up this morning and saw that it had failed, I panicked, and when I read your first response, I nearly instantly calmed down.
Sounds like a default win to me...

sounds interesting and quite original
I don't know know what smart masks are, but I think I've read that if you do transformative works on existing assets you need to list the original assets mentioning you used them as base.
About plugins for Blender I really don't think you need to mention that, otherwise everybody should be listing all the software and related plugins used for every asset they make, eg: "I've made these UI using shapes tool in photoshop, that landscape is from world machine, trees from speedtree, sounds edited in Audacity".
Maybe I can get away with projectiles flying bend paths
From what I've been told it seems like the safest approach is to document all the tools you use; the judges will make a call on whether or not it should affect your scores (it probably won't).
That said I would imagine just saying "Blender" would be enough to cover Blender and all its standard plugins; other plugins would only be notable if they came from other sources.

hi! Any game jam admin around? I'd like to ask it we can we use some of the engine starter content? Like some particles? or it has to be from an asset we own or self-made 100%?
If you use premade assets, you must list them when you submit your game. They don't count towards your score.
you can use pre-made stuff, but you have to declare it in your submission
You can find all of this info on the jam website. https://itch.io/jam/2020-epic-megajam
Quick question regarding the Tiny Award. In the rules it says "total size of packaged playable game", does that mean, the .zip file we upload has to be under a hundred MB or the unpacked files?
okay thanks, and that applies also to the content that unreal gives you by default?
I mean, we can use it as long as we specify it
yess i read it, but I wasn't sure if the content of unreal applied to this or we have to use something different
The packaged project or the zipped packaged project to be more precise
The project must be under 100MB unzipped.
unpacked files
So let's say someone downloads YourGame.zip and unzips it to a YourGame folder, which contains Content, Config, YourGame.exe, etc. That YourGame folder must be less than 100 MB.
me seeing everyones progress:
my teams progress: not very much YET
Yes. It was a bit misleading because packaging a game (compiling and exporting it) is quite simliar to the process of packing it in a zip file. I have to say, it is 40 mb zipped at the moment which looks quite good nearly 80 if not zipped
can we talk about how there is already 1 entry?
