Allar is streaming some games atm: https://www.twitch.tv/awesomeallar
quick question, ||when is the jam winner announced?||
yesterday....
no i just edited it
it depends
lol
its normally a couple weeks
i dont think they normally say because they dont know how long it will take
sometimes other things delay it also
expect like month for megajam with 458 entries
they are not going to breeze through all the entries in week
the they schedule says 12/12
yeah i was thinking the same
I think they've postponed the winner announcement in past too
so wouldn't surprise to see it happen again
It could happen, but for now we can assume December 12.
That was what I thought it was
Ok FINALLY some feedback. Apparently my Windows to Android offline installer was being mistaken for a windows version :(
Does Allar play VR titles from the jam too?
his reply: probably not
he is live now?
yes
Man kicking back playing Pokémon shield and watching allars stream now
Pokémon sword is my reward for finishing this jam, everyone around me has already played through it
my reward has been sleep
Gonna start my stream soon
Starting my UE4 Megajam 2019 playthought marathon, where i gonna play all 461 entries of UE4 Megajam 2019... yes im crazy :p it's double the normal amount . Come join me see lot of falling space cat and rate entries with me https://www.twitch.tv/shadowriver
@copper carbon When judging games will you be looking at screenshots & videos to make sure you've experienced the game instead of quitting if its slightly difficult 🤔
@loud basalt .. I think you already answered your question
anyone that plays VR want to give my submition a whirl? i only had about 6hrs of external testing so would be cool to grab more feedback https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/520927
Thanks, Epic!
This was my first Game Jam. Good times were had!
Allar played our submission just a bit ago
It didn't go super well. But at least he was able to beat the game!
@solid abyss How so
well you gave a perfectly good reason for one person to look at the screenshots and videos .. it is obvious that it is helpful for the judging process.. and without it .. the judges might now know the knooks and corners of the game. It is a obvious thing, that they would use it. But if you are implying that it has to have a screenshot.. than no rule says so. @loud basalt
Hello, not able to meet the deadline, I thought too big 😐 . Here is pick of the game I started one man army and man it was difficult by myself. Next time I will probably be on a team.
Luna Come Home !
Oh Hmm, start small, very small.. then expand it over time, never think big, even if it is small, think smaller
I haven't submitted project on time cause I had packaging errors, how to resolve them?
Well depends on the errors, you have to be specific
Also probably package it way before the deadline like at least 3 hours before deadline or even more if you have a slow pc, or big game
You can’t imagine how much I was upset... 5 days full-time, almost continuous work. And in the end, it's all just nothing... Just because I don’t know how to use the console... Well, yes - I'm not a programmer. I'm just a simple designer with a lot of ideas. But when some technical limitations interfere with creativity, it’s very sad. I’ve been trying to figure out how the butler works for more than an hour, but it didn’t work out for me. Most likely this is due to lack of sleep.
But I don’t want my work to be wasted. So I shot a video of the gameplay, made some cinematic screenshots and still uploaded the build to my cloud (onedrive). Maybe someone even wants to play. I wanted to create a small but completely finished project - from splash screen to credits. And in my opinion, I succeeded. Of course, I did not manage to implement everything. About half of what I originally wanted to do was cut. But in my project there are almost all elements of modern games. There is a plot that I did not tell, but which you can feel if you think about it. There is a bit of humor. There is an action. There are unusual mechanics. Some easter eggs and much more.
It seemed to me that my idea had a chance of winning, so I tried to give my best. But apparently this is not enough. I hope that you at least watch the video of what I did, and maybe even play it yourself.
Despite my depressed mood and complete emptiness, I am still very glad that I took part in this event. I madly respect Epic Games and Quixel. I think these are practically the only companies that really develop the gaming industry. Therefore, in spite of everything, I am grateful to the organizers and sponsors for hosting this event with such good prizes.
I looked at a lot of projects. There are those who are just starting out, but there are those who already feel confident in the development. And it’s very cool when a variety of people try to show what they are capable of. And even more encouraging is the fact that with every GameJam the number of participants increases. Keep it up! I wish everyone victory. And for those who decide to look at my project - a good game and have fun...

I want to present to your attention my project for Mega jam 5 Year Anniversary from Epic Games.
5 Days full-time, almost continuous work - from the idea to the final build of the game.
There will be many pictures, simply because I really...
@wintry osprey well there are tons of yellow lines of textL asset name + can't find that file/ failed to load
If someone streams our game, it would be great to know. I'm not around until Sunday night to actually see it mind, but what can you do?
Clip of Development no sound, tell me what you think!
Well, a shout out to all of you who finished. I am also going to play through them and try to give comments.
I learned so muuch and it was sooo fun to try to come up with something. I will be back next year!
Yeah, boosters and lasers. Too many ways to go on it, and the world was way to big. Boosters would add 40000 to max speed but still would not cover enough space. Tweaking and playing was a trip. VR users would probably feel like they were in space, wish I could test
Usually it's one prize for whole team
cool might try some of those
This month I celebrate 1 year of learning game dev and UE4 :-D
Nice, I been working with Unreal Engine since 4.18. I always tell myself to keep it up, something has to give.
@maiden loom allar is streaming your game soonish I think
How does one check the order they're playing the games in?
so keep it up, and good luck!!
See yallz around and can't wait to see what else I can make in Unreal, it's been fun. Big thanks to Epic, and their Masters of tutorials staff. It is very valuable to have all those tutorials and help pages, thanks!
cyaz
@maiden loom Allar is playing it now on his stream
@maiden loom I have no idea whats going on and I love it
@maiden loom here's a timestamp https://www.twitch.tv/videos/511829684?t=5h0m26s
awesome 😄
man watching allar play our game is so funny
dude is hilarious
you have to herd the cats into the cargo boxes 😄
@pine fulcrum is there way to know when you are playing my game on twitch
@wind aspen just request it on stream
Ok cool
anyone got some cool shit
here
check this out https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/521629
@small fern - cheers, will check it out on Sunday when I get back :)
@maiden loom main issue seemed to be that nobody knew how to play it 😄
it did look nice tho
There are instructions on the game page
they kept trying it for like 20 minutes
But I guess nobody read that :D
they did read it eventually but apparently it didn't make much sense
Ah well, I guess I'll find out when I watch it
We wanted to put instructions in the game, but time wasn't on our side and we were fixing issues right until the last hour of the jam
we almost had awful player guidance near the end, did some extra hard work to get that experience improved
In our case the packaged game wasn't working when the editor game did
The swarms were doing all kinds of weird shit
We lost most of an evening trying to solve it, if not more
Turns out blueprint nativisation was cutting out components on our actors
We only worked that out by pure dumb luck, more or less!
Sadly didn't have the scheduled time to work on user experience :(
Original plan was to spend more or less the entire last evening on it
I'm mostly pleased we managed to ship it in the end, without the missing components the swarms were as good as totally random and uninfluencable, making the game impossible to play :')
Big props to @marsh sail though, for managing to put together a multi-threaded, replicated swarm solution together during a game jam :D
@pine fulcrum Like hitting things with a large axe? https://cuddlebadger.itch.io/song-of-the-valkyries
damn our game was confusing to play cause of no instructions
also the widgets seems to have broken on the containers
had the same issue amber
things that worked perfect in editor
went buggo in pacakged
Last minute, the build with all the audio broke a single timeline for a cooldown
also nativized, so that could be it
so we submitted the prev build 😦
i had a bug where the game mode would not run, so i had to override it
on every level
@maiden loom @marsh sail gif link, swarm solution sounds cool
same thing with AI buddy, just tested in editor he follows fine, in packaged version
doesnt move a godamm muscle
We designed our game to be multiplayer but in the end we shipped a singleplayer build 😦
lol
trying to make multiplayer physics replication work while keeping 300+ simulated actors was fun
interestingly, last year's game jam went smoother that this one for us
game jams are the mothers of overscoped projects
this was my first time going solo
granted this time the whole thing is 10x more impressive in our eyes, but it probably wont be for everyone else
rip procedural level generation
its tough, managing your expectations of the game
and what others will perceive of it
i put my life blood into this (judges are like, yeah join the club)
im here for you guys
no wait i gotta go sry
@pine fulcrum ty for having a look! Sorry it's so basic, we ran out of time for anything more involved
@hidden flicker we had that bug too 😭
We didn't know how to override it though
@gusty marlin had to go into the level itself
in world settings
game mode override
How do we find streamers who are streaming the entries?
@gaunt copper thanks for checking out ground control! Sorry about the difficulties with playing it 😦 it’s really intended for players to be in the same room or over voice chat
@pine fulcrum sorry about the experience with Flit... we are really new to unreal. It might not seem that way but we did put in a ton of time and effort learning what we did. Thanks for checking it out.
awesome stuff Allar, not easy playing so long like that
and im not even being ironic [this time]
i had a lot of fun watching you play lots of those games, especially mine you discovered so many new features [bugs]
404
that is one well made trailer, just saw it on the page
Yeah, thanks for putting up with my game’s existence, definitely a few poor decisions made, but learning for next time
wow! so many awesome games 😍
kindly check our submission, and give us some feedbacks :
https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/521315
man i just get a white screen
@loud basalt im about to play your entry
@low jetty Why is your other entry 'Astro-Ark' submitted in both the 2018 and 2019 Megajam, both claiming to be made in the timeframe? Usually I don't like to call people out but since you're directly asking for feedback... 🙄
https://itch.io/jam/2018-epic-megajam/rate/330970
https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/330970
submission process is unclear, probably submitted an old game by accident
note the submission forms for Astro-ArK (2019) and Tales of Megha are the same 🙂 that's what happened
I hope that's true - I know a lot of people had issues with the bad submit button (the little red box).
Okay @low jetty I also just get the white screen of death trying to start it sorry. 😦
@pine fulcrum thx for the feedback and thx for your time just to try out all the games karma for you
guys sorry for the issue. we found it. Whitescreen is cinematic video i think we miss placed the video in someother folder after whitescreen the game starts. And AstroArk published by mistake. Will fix the white screen.
sorry for the inconvenience caused @trail trellis @minor hemlock @compact cedar @pine fulcrum
No problem but you definitely mean inconvenience haha. 😛 Share the working build if you want, happy to try it.
@trail trellis thank you:) definitely share. we have no idea why the videos are not displaying. In local machine its working but after packed 🙄 still wondering.
Post jam burnout sucks
Yes
I like this one 😁
Hi guys. We at HypetrainGames (new for fun studio founded for the jam :D) made this skill game as submission entirely from scratch: https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/521362
As more people than we were expecting is enjoying it and asked for more levels (and different difficulty lvls) we are thinking of polishing and continue working on it. If you have any suggestions/feedback, please don't hesitate to share them with me :).
And if you manage to beat it (yes, I challenge you!) send me your score!
😦
@low jetty hey man I believe you need to move the videos to a movie folder and there is an option for cache that needs to be ticked for the video to be included in the package I had a similar issue with my another game 😅
I'm so scared for when my game gets played O_O
Hehe same here😬
Who cares what people think, though? Most people that call themselves game devs have never entered a jam OR finished a game. You did it in 7 days
Well thats the thing I think, the best part is when you see someone playing and you notice the amount of things you need to improve, but also the things that they enjoy :)
Hi all, its nice to see so many variety of games. All the best to all. Please have a look at our entry too.
https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/520842
Happy Gaming..
Haha
Mine did package well, but then crashed with fatal error on character move. Turned out the "move to" function relied on "CharacterAI" beta plugin I had disabled to reduce build size.
oh yeah I was super picky about which plugins to disable haha. You never know what kind of cascading effect disabling one plugin can do. Luckily, a good portion of them aren't essential for regular windows builds.
I was sitting there like hmmmm, Android packager, what nonsense errors would I get by disabling thou
I usually have only Visual Studio Integration (allows to build from File menu) and Plugin Browser enabled.
@pine fulcrum .. do you have a spreadsheet where you are putting the score? I can't follow the stream all the time
So Many Good Games out there, Please play our game ,Feedbacks 🙂 and sumbit us your death count hehe 🙂 https://xnhakira.itch.io/listen-ue4
@pine fulcrum updated your spreadsheet, 60 games played total: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hdpj7oJaFMQ4cyDVki9BoD0zorJa1CzMsVgYTFykfGU/
*398
13.29% through
I mean, if someone is actually going to stream all these.. it'll take like two weeks
you can't just do 60 games every day, or at least take that long time per a game
with 60/day Allar would be done in a week from now 😄
Uh. Oh. Two Game Jam Mega Streams. Which one to watch? Allar's or Shadowrivers? 😛
Go side-by-side
LOL. My internet would chug.
I wonder. Can you leave out the pre-reqs in a windows build and still qualify for tiny build?
It's like 25Mb of space
I made 99.3Mb with prereqs. So still made it. But dang
*almost every does
Lol
Wow, thats cool. Thanks for streaming the games.
I did my windows version from my android version in 20 minutes. I was out of time so I didnt have time to ask lol
I think I'm gonna spend the next few months learning how to optimize and remove stuff mobile doesnt need with a custom UE4 build
Good grief. UE4 match 3 game on Google Play fills 181 MB of space installed.
Hi guys I was wondering I designed all the levels and coded the entire game and made some (4) 3d assets my self and down texture works but at the end of the week like two days before the game jam ends my 2 friends helped me with sound effects and some short dialogue stuff does that count as a solo dev ?
Just wondering 😬 😅
I recommend playing this horror/climbing-game mix from the EMJ: https://aumbra.itch.io/the-chasm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ_tKd_Kv6c
Spooky Rock Climbing/Rappelling Simulator. More premium quality spooky games in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LexDjIGeEG4&list=PL3Lq7rnBEf_KRR5W7FaUn...
the physics are a lot of fun
@near cairn not solo if they made sounds just for you. if they found other people's sounds and you don't tell it's probably solo.
about the voice acting stuff: I really wonder about that as well. what if you ask a friend to read some text for you? Both that counting as a team mate and not counting as a team mate makes sense.
I'm guessing that the jam rules would say that exclusive voice actors = team members
(exclusive = voice that was recorded for the game rather than pre-existing publicly available voice samples being used)
Took me around 30 hours to make this, not much errors in this unlike my other jams, This game is pretty simple to understand, but overall I don't think I achieved good User Experience, or even properly separated pickups from obstacles. Could have portrayed that information better.
User interface could have also been more exciting. Oh and the sounds in this game was not done well, even though I got it from soundly, the could have been more use of sounds like background sounds or more atmospheric noises.
Models were made by Dabt and he did texture his models while I did most of the recolouring, transparent materials and rainbow coloured materials. He also made the UI images, I just made the Background and credit icons.
@near cairn Yeah I would not count that as solo, unless you kept quiet, but that would be wrong to do so. They made sounds for you so they still added something to your jam entry, hence not solo dev.
Yes you are right
I have added their name to the itchio page like a shout out to them with their platforms like sound cloud and wattpad
But I added the game to army of one category guess I shall change that 😅
Hey all, I uploaded a playthrough of my jam entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm4fzF5ZZug
You can try it out here: https://chozabu.itch.io/getting-downtoearth-with-chozabu Game made for epic megajam 2019
will do a 30s edited version soon
great 🙂
Hmmm it's a super grey area I'd say. If you did all the dev and whatnot yourself, I'd see why army of one could apply, but that would exclude actors and composers from being considered important team members in a jam, which they certainly are. Bit of a case-by-case thing.
@pine fulcrum - can you review our game on stream as well? https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/518927 - we tried to focus on gameplay (i.e. you have to plan your upgrades and cargos to get a higher score and to actually pass the game in time). Not a runner-style stuff, which was very popular this jam 🙂
I've been to some local jams where we had actors and composers as part of teams. It was great fun. Their input is just as essential to the process as anything else in dev.
@heady island 👀
gonna start sreaming in arounf 15-20 min i need to eat dinner first
no, he said he hates games
Finally found some time to make a video of the game Me and @edgy fulcrum made for the MegaJam :)
https://youtu.be/1BJM0Nd11Ow
Dapper Dan's Graveyard Smash is our contribution to the Epic Games MegaJam 2019! Made in under a week! We were two people working on this on our spare time.
Starting day 2 of UE4 Megajam playthrought marathon! 420 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://www.twitch.tv/shadowriver
@brave current Hahaha I like the idea and it's super well executed
@obsidian smelt Cheers! 😄
There's a lot of good submissions this time around. It's been great seeing them all!
@glass fossil
What I took away from the Jam would be:
- Aim to finish the game 1 day ahead of final submission. Use the last day to fix all bugs.
- I really should take time off from work for these things. Lack of sleep exhausted me!
- It's futile to try to keep the Blueprints neat and clean and have everything done "the right way". The spaghetti and the dirty solutions are inevitable the closer you get to deadline.
This is my 5th game jam, but this is my 2nd jam with a team aka 1 other person and I made this game.
Over this I find:
Start Simple
Go Small, make sure you game is small, idea has to be simple
Balance out your work between your team
No panic
Try to package game hours before it is due
Get Another Player to test game to see how a non dev plays it
Get a playable game done a few days before submitting
Have Time to do this jam
Sleep,Eat, Drink etc
Learn Optimisation Methods, Quick Packaging Tips
Do not think about multi platform
You will get stressed, it is normal, just don't go crazy
For Teams I would say above
with also manage team, make sure everyone is up to date etc
@glass fossil not so much cap framerates as make framerate independent logic!
@brave current I'd recommend grabbing something like Blueprint Assist so you can worry more about architecture than actually organizing the blueprint spaghetti 🙂
@minor hemlock I actually have one of those but when panic-fixing bugs hours before deadline it was the last thing on my mind 😄
Designing a game that doesn't require built lighting for one. Then you can turn off static lighting in project settings. As a bonus it speeds up material compilation too!
Putting our game through the QA Lab at my college today, looking forward to getting player feedback
Dont use nativization if you dont need it... using it caused a lot of things to break on my project, without proper time to debug it all.. kinda stuff that works in editor and then doesnt in package.. i just tested a non nativized build and voila magically everything works
I think the biggest lesson is not let.other peoples opinion get you down, if you are proud of your work, be proud, its all a big continuos learning experience
you can pick the bps that u want nativized, only go for the heavy ones
speaking of reducing shader compilation times
Was able to reduce shader permutations by about 50% via @LordNed post on #UE4 Rendering. Mileage may vary, but my stylized game can disable all the checkboxes listed, pretty sweet! https://t.co/WSdjxWw2M3 #gamedev
128
Heck yeah, that was the inspiration
I got a nice try on Shadows playthrough. I'm a 1 year game dev noob so I'll take that 👶
I thought I'd get slaughtered lol
OMG that game is so funny
@tranquil matrix Hi. My submission has a screen shot of another video game in it as decoration, and I was just thinking that I may need to put that in the submission information... Do I? Thanks..
I wasn't too happy with my first video, as it failed to show the nuances in the combat system. It can be quite satisfying once you get into a decent rhythm. Are we allowed to update the video on the submission page?
https://youtu.be/nVEyzyimoro
I wasn't too happy with the first video, as it failed to show some of the nuances in the combat system (the whole core of the game haha). I increased the dif...
so who made a flat earth simulator?
@obsidian smelt Yes. I asked a couple of days ago, and Amanda said yes.
awesome thanks!
https://vizzey.itch.io/bemuzed Our game for this Jam. It has couple bugs, but is still playable and can be bitten
Starting day 3 of UE4 Megajam playthrought marathon! 374 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://twitch.tv/shadowriver
@gaunt copper https://kolitestudios.itch.io/space-claws-fat-furrious check ours out!
@indigo kiln Shadow is playing your game
❤️
XD
Launched my game jam entry on a $25 5 YEAR OLD wal mart black friday tablet and it plays
Unreal is fn amazing
do we know when we will hear results for winners? guessing it will be couple weeks?
It's usually been like a month or so, but this jam had so many more games, so it might be a bit longer?
oh wow, ok
They'll announce it if and when they're gonna do a jam winners stream
sounds good, thanks!
Supposed to be December 12th but winners will know they won. They will get the release forms fo fill out
Days or more before the announcement.
I made 90% of all my assets during the jam and shadow and viewers game me a "nice try" review. I'll take it. One year in game dev and I did the game, models, music, and sound except for one. 👻
What's your game?
eh, is what it is. two years ago i did one, and it was not received well. definitely hard not to take it personally, but i took it as a good experience regardless
Litterbox Lander. It's a silly game.
If you guys have the time please do check out mine as well 😁
https://cosine-interactive.itch.io/retreival
got around to record some gameplay
Here is some actual gameplay of the jam game.
Also, the music was on accident, but it fits really well.
Stick towards the end to see the cinematic, and how the game is actually tied to the theme:
Down to earth⏬🌎
#ue4 #gamedev https://t.co/ADgTZYXCrZ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Fk0hcygOo uploaded some trimmed highlights of my game!
A few short gameplay clips of "getting down to earth with chozabu" play it here: https://chozabu.itch.io/getting-downtoearth-with-chozabu
Thanks - really enjoyed making it, though could be fustrating before I added rewind time
Oh yeah that was such a good call
Made a similar setup in ue4 before - core concept is player is a rigid body, and physics constraints attempt to put hammers at motion controller locations
it totally allows you to make more hectic puzzles without worrying about completely frustrating players
yeah, if I'd done time rewind sooner, would have made level much longer and harder
the same philosophy was used for prince of persia the sands of time
you going to continue with the idea some more?
perhaps! in some form or another
twitch chat was fun when shadow played it
Sure will if it wins something
haha sounds awesome
Shame I missed shadowriver streaming it - though I did check out the replay
Interesting mixed reaction 😄
how everyone changed their mind when they realized you could rewind time
still got a low user rating though
glad the ending went down well 😄
Think this game is much more fun to play than watch, so I am in with a chance - though a slim one
yeah well, I saw a guy starting with a 3 rating, just because he got ptsd from "getting over it" 😅
I stopped playing getting over it after falling down a few times
wanted to see interesting new bits, not redo the same thing
and no one was paying you to play 🤣
@oblique cairn I liked the awe dialogue in the stream chat, accompanied with background screams of totally confused man.
the "hollow" cubes at the start are specificly for a player to get tangled in 😄
Has anyone in chat played my game? Did you beat it? https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/521580
(The jam version requires a 1080 but I uploaded another build with low settings if you wanna try it https://metagrafox.itch.io/metaphor-alpha)
I built it on a 1080 and runs 90fps, someone tried it on a 1060 and was getting like 10fps, victor said theyre judging on a 2080
could also be they were running at a different resolution
I left it on cinematic settings when i packaged the jam build cause i was still getting 90fps with all my gameplay and everything 😄
oof cinematic
gonna stream in max 30min probably ealier, moving the jam files
Starting day 4 of UE4 Megajam playthrought marathon! 344 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://twitch.tv/shadowriver
going to continue my SpaceCat submission into a fuller game (adding asteroid mining) https://youtu.be/MP8Uv_rawXo\
man the baked lightning in the package version of my submission is somehow broken on the HTC Vive/SteamVR 😦 oculus seems fine though ... Anyway, I posted a video of what the game should be like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20j1hCn1eSk and will provide a fix for the vive for the community asap
"Down in Earth" is a very small room-scale virtual reality "game" where you dig into robots graves to salvage the circuits. Robots have long overtaken the ea...
Looks like they're not going to accept any late entry, even if it was a few minutes past the a lot of time. So looks like we won't have our game judged. Appreciate it, and had an amazing time. When they let us upload a build with a fix I will do that so anybody who wants to test it can
@glass fossil nope, those are timestamps for games
so devs may see theirs
also this way video on twitch stored longer
It will be an official rank for jam entry?
luls, "...all (decent) games" -_- (edit: quoting Qwigs stream-name)
Definitely a personal insult to all other games that weren't on the list/stream
I bet my game was on there 😄
even if it wasn't, I definitely had fun making the game
not really expecting anything with it, as its just a stepping stone project
@onyx moon no I mean if people that actually work on Epic will do a rank for all the games entry
Trefendor - no they won't show any rankings. (or they havn't done so for the previous jams)
@edgy fulcrum cuz if they do it will be cool all the jam games are idea's, like a pool from where can take it an apply them
You can sort the list of submissions on itch by popularity. It's no guarantee of quality, but usually most of the better ones will be closer to the top.
@carmine kindle only good twitch I saw was allar twitch
I mean if you go here https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/entries and list it by popularity, the top ones are more popular and you can find a lot of good stuff there, if you want to learn from something or get inspiration.
Thx, this is way I love Epic community, any where you look you will find support
Hi
Are you guys planning on making you game jam to a complete game ?
You game jam entry *
I want to make my game into a complete production level game but I am just a little afraid 😬 if it will end as garbage😅 😂
You should give it a go, the worst that will happen is you'll walk away learning a bunch of stuff.
I generally don't expand directly on my jam games, but use whatever I learned making them in some newer bigger project.
Maybe even the same kind of game, but with a different theme. I'd love to make a proper game similar to what I did this jam, but I'm not super tied to the whole space cats vs martians theme aspect of it. 👽
Yes that is true even if it turns out bad I will learn something. However I do plan to make changes here and there probably this game was the best idea I got so far 😅 🤔 in a long time. I kind of don t feel confident enough to make a better game than this may be I will perhaps but I don't know 😅 😬
Probably coz I am not a cool idea guy 😂
You often find that ideas come along naturally as you develop stuff. You sit there like oh I wish I had a cool way to make this transition, or how cool would it be to add this little mechanic that ties these systems together. Plus, playtests generate a lot of good feedback. Just be careful of scope creep hahaha.
Yes that is true
This game idea came from just sitting there literally not thinking about anything 😂 I spent hours thinking to find a cool idea for the game
But nothing came
The absolute best way to figure out how to create a manageable scope and stick to some core pillars of what you're trying to achieve, is to just do a big deconstruction of other games. You eventually understand what made the core of them so great and how the teams built on the idea to make them amazing (tying in a cool story, pushing the art aspects, tight controls and level design, massive replayability, procedural design, or some combination thereof), all while reusing mechanics and assets to keep the scope in check.
But that can really be said about anything hahaha. Learn from the masters, then use that knowledge to create something incredible of your own.
Yes you are right there's just so much to learn and I am sure most game devs have some cool story to share about what they learned and how they learned. I just read cuphead developers story it's really cool
I'm probably going to expand on mine a bit, since I haven't fully realised what I wanted to make yet.
Still needs idle game elements, going deeper -> costs more/gains more -> upgrade more -> going deeper.
So you would have to place drilling devices and such, cages which allow turrets to shoot through but enemies pass through.
And the usual polish, so enemies actually stick to tiles etc
This was the only gameplay I managed to get in the end unfortunately

getting close to 50% 😮
He's a machine 😄
^ 14 Gb game
i've asked shadow, he said for-teen
7gb download
yeah, i know
no goal
just working and watching stream
ue4...as always
jam or one im working now?
uuum...we made no video...i have some random one i made during development
7
i was working on landscape/robot and visual effects (like trails and clouds, lighting)
all?
yeah, even scan was made by me
but all movement etc - not
as iv'e said i was only making landscapes and effects
@tepid light was making bungee logic, and layout for level, plus he made an intro cinematic
@gaunt copper made UI and diving mechanics, and core game mechanics
@glacial belfry was making level assets and voice (iirc)
and we had one Character artist, he's not on this Discord afaik
it is
whatsup?
@tepid light ^ he stole your joke
?
@tepid light sorry, being over sarcastic...
@glass fossil actually, this most bugless game that we ever made
yeah, that might actually be true.
Shadowriever is really something else 😧
Honestly his and allar was the first twitch stream I ever watched 😅
@gaunt copper Just watched the video of you playing our game 😄
Glad you had fun!
You skipped the first tutorial so you didn't know you can close the gates by powering them with batteries. That's why you were having such a hard time being sucked out outside the ship 😛
And the IP box is unfortunately not clickable so you need to press TAB several times for it to catch focus
A very unfortunate bug 😛
btw. Someone said you need more people for the game. The difficulty is changed depending on how much players are in the game so it wouldn't get easier with more players 😛
Sorry if this is a stupid question, we’re new to this, but how will we know when the winners have been picked? Is there a website or a livestream or something we should be watching?
12th december, usual ue4 streaming time
if they can play all 450+ submissions until then 🙂
we all know that i'm the winner! 😄
you know what i win?
a pat on the back, for having a fun game jam.
I used time machine to check the 12th day stream, they said they are going to postpone the stream by one month due to the sheer amount of entries submitted
😂 😂 😂
I used it as well but i sent the judges back in time to learn the ABC's as kids
Whats your game @small fern
I didn't do it :p
I didn't like my idea enough to even start crunching
that being said, I was surprised how few actually did anything inside earth
few did tho
most just went to space with cats :p
Yeah space cats became the real theme
I was watching shadowriver's stream and he calculated around 20% of entries had space cats
It would be interesting to do stats based on Shadowriver’s spreadsheet, like seeing if the scores skewed in a certain direction or something like that
Don't think there's quite enough data there to work with
and I think the score sample size is probably too low
I wonder why there was so many space cats ? There were some cool games with space cats but still what happened all the sudden ?
I wonder if people were more prepared for it or thinking about it more because it was released before
well, SR also didn't qualify everyting as space cats
but many more tried
should have put unbranded excavator in moon, see how many connect it as space cat :p
That would count as creative use of theme 😄
could have put cat face in place of the logo :p
but yeah. rules are pretty strict on 3rd party trademarks
Starting day 6 of UE4 Megajam playthrought marathon! 260 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://twitch.tv/shadowriver
@paper scaffold was that game coop about fixing a ship?
@small fern well it said "Down to earth" not "Into Earth"
i cant blame shadowriver for not paying attention to little details in peoples games, since it is tough playing non stop 450 games, but he does miss a lot of details, that Allar for example didn't, at least on mine
but yeah, its honestly not easy playing 450 games
in that amount of time especially
shadowriver should get a special karma badge
for that
@small fern that counter is just for fun :p and i count real cats
i mean naything that reasemable cats
keep in mind i dont finish some of them so i may miss cats anwyay
@gaunt copper amazing! Thank you very much for taking the time for playing every game! That's feels really good!
@gaunt copper - Thanks for playing our Jam last night!:D I was asleep during the live showing but I watched the VOD:) Glad it seemed to be playable!
I gotta say that Shadowriver is truly a man of limitless patience, tolerating TSDNBTTP for 30 minutes.
Shadowriver is a great guy. I can see why he's constantly one of the top karma earners.
that and because they're one of the few people that actually use the Answerhub, heh
Yeah, @gaunt copper ! I agree with @edgy fulcrum 😄 Except I wasn't asleep. I was there watching your every move
Wow, Seriously amazing work on the livestream, too bad I could not see you play my game, I was offline.
man deserves a badge, going through 400+ games
and keeping it all tidy in a spreadsheet
And keeping his sanity intact! 😄
@obsidian smelt it not that hard to be on there, you need to anwser around 3 quastions in week
i gonna start stream soon
❤️
To help me get setup for doing game jams better, I'd like to create my own Starter Content-like thing that I can import into my project so that I can already have with basic shapes and color materials for prototyping gameplay.
What's the Unreal vocabulary word for that? Is it a "Plugin"? Is it an "Add-On"? Is it an "Extension"? I'm not sure which tutorials I should be following to make this happen.
Template?
you can plu it in plugin too actully as plugin content
Starting day 7 of UE4 Megajam playthrough marathon! 218 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://twitch.tv/shadowriver

@dusky vessel there's an existing game jam template too if you want a starting point for customizing
@minor hemlock That's a good point, but how exactly are those assets packaged so that they can be just placed into any other project? Is it just the naive, "copy paste this into its own folder, outside of the enginer... and then drag&drop into the editor at any time"?
Because if I make edits to that template then how do I export them into some other project? The "Export" function in the right click menu doesn't seem to make sense, because the file type isn't recognized by any "Import" function I can find
@dusky vessel i understand you.
I created a plugin called "starterpack" that we use. We package it and load it into anything we do. It was common things that we almost always use that we didnt want to create over and over again
like measure units, 512x512 default textures, blank normals, and helper textures, as well as some engine only models that we use for showing where or how we place things
so I 100% think its a great idea as it really does help speed the process up
the problem with something like that, is the EXACT reason why we didnt get our game in time. We didnt polish up the code for that starterplugin since we just bring it along with us. However, it compiles... it had a runtime problem. So, keep your shit up to date and test it 😛 even if its for engine use only 😦
@dusky vessel iirc templates are just projects that live in a special engine directory and have a flag set in their uproject file!
Plugin could make sense too but a template seems more convenient for jam use
That's part of my question - I don't know what the vocab word is that I'm looking for. Is what I'm trying to make for myself a template? Is it a plugin? Is it an add-on? Is it something else? There's no clear explanation of what all these exactly are
well, the plugin you just load in and walla 😛
addon = plugin
template is a base, of assets
plugins add features/abilities to the engine/game
Template is the part in the process where you start a new project and choose first person, third person, etc
you could add plugin content to a template, but its not a plugin at that point
a plugin is easily added or removed, without being destructive (in theory)
with a template, there is no removal of the items added unless you clean them up yourself
Some plugins come with blueprint content as well (dialogue plugin comes to mind since it brings in it's widgets)
think of it like a car...... a plugin is like adding a new part to the car that enhances its capabilities
the template, would be the car itself, as you purchased it from the store
a base to work from
So it doesn't have to be so cleanly add/removable
and addon is an OLD term.... that just means the same shit as a plugin
so, using that information, you should be able to speak to what you desire
@dusky vessel
on the left is the list of plugins and the content they add
if i was to unhook that plugin, that content would POOF
and any links or ties into those would be severed, (broke as well)
Maybe the game jam toolkit was just something intended to drop in Content/ 🤔 but this one is set up as a template https://github.com/BlueVoidStudios/Nano
So was the GameJam Toolkit just straight up copy-pasted and ZIP'd into a file? Are .uasset files drag-n-droppable between projects like that?
Because if so then that's all I need
I could just have a Template project with sub-folders for what I need and then I can just copy-paste into whatever new project I want to work on.
some are, some are not
@dusky vessel I think .uasset files can be copied between projects - but the full path relative to the games root (/content/) folder must be preserved
I have old blueprint which I've shared as uasset
people have managed to use it
I don't think there's any path requirement for blueprints at least
@dusky vessel before copiing relocate ethe assets to subfolder and fix redirectors
😄 that's my game, sometimes the physics push the rotation, didn't had time to fix it @compact cedar
it is very rare to happen, had other fights to battle, like a lot of then 😄
playing with controller makes the game much more easy, fell sad to Shadowriver play it only now after so many games, since it is tricky in some levels
all good, just more poor him since he is probably tired and our game can be little hard 😄
will watch the Vod later
game too hard? add rewind time mechanic 😄
(though, that made my game too easy perhaps)
nah...i've asked him about his tired voice and he told me - "That's my normal voice! Why everyone tells me it's tired?"
we planned each bump you loose a cat 😄 that made it so hard
should work yeah
we tough about make it kinda coop too, each player controlling 1 axis 😄 that could be chaos
try to make one player control player? (even slightly)
i see what you mean, could be interesting yeah
Heh. If anything I think cat-earth society was too forgiving (can complete it with only buying cargo upgrades) but probably good enough for a jam game so it can be roughly experienced in 15 min
did my game make you suffer too much @minor hemlock that astronaut that need pickup cats that you rotate the platform 😄 CatchCat
not sure if you played actually
@oblique cairn is it hard to make? rewind time mechanic
@compact cedar Depends how you do it - In my case, I only really rewound position and vel of player, just a few BP nodes
I've seen there is a marketplace asset, no idea if it is good though
UE4 also has a "replay" system built in, that may be useful for a decent performant implementation
also depends on game, some will be much harder than others
@fallow lion I hardly played any games 😅 just a few multiplayer ones on allars stream
Got a link handy?
@oblique cairn nothing goes weird or feels bad about physics when rewinding?
this one ^
😄
@minor hemlock link to what?
To catchcat :D
in my game - was rewinding in physics based VR game, so didn't have a great solution for hands, opted to use current hand position, and inverted velocity - so hands match controller locations better
rewinding hand position felt bad, using current hand transform caused problems (like, placing hammer inside wall while rewinding)
still needed a bit more work, but ran out of jam
@gaunt copper thank you so much for playing the game 😍
Sorry about the difficulties I didn't get enough time to play test the feels hehe 😅
And the story telling
@oblique cairn would be nice if hammers didnt collide to eachother ;p it frlt like having tracker issues
@gaunt copper you are not the first person to tell me this, I actually had collision between hammers disabled for a while but thought it felt too "fake"
I may have made the wrong choice, should have left it disabled
Will probably update the game to have it as an option, as well as one handed mode, and no time rewind
@gaunt copper Shame I missed you playing my game - but did check it out from the twitch video, very informative to see you playing it! (and entertaning :D)
Was happy to see you complete it, also great to see the wide range of opinions in the chat.
So, yet again - thanks for that 🙂
(near the start of the jam - your hammers would collide with your "body" but that really was a pain, and I quickly disabled it)
... that could be an intersting sub-goal for next jam entry "Make a game that is @gaunt copper s Kryptonite" 😉
Make a game that breaks the players.
Starting day 8 of UE4 Megajam playthrough marathon! 176 games to go! Hop in to see them and also rate them with me! ^^ https://twitch.tv/shadowriver

Anyone get epic email yet?
Nope
People should start getting them this week. I dunno if you have to sign an NDA that you got one though. Still won't know what you've won until announcement
I'm just happy @gaunt copper didn't roast my noob game lol
Unless they push the date back due to the large amount of entries
I mean - shadowriver managed to test all games in 12 days alone, I don't think they should have an issue cause they will have multiple people going through them, won't they?
🤷♂️
they haven't even had a full non-holiday week since the jam ended 😛
Yeah.. I suspect if they make it on time the emails will be close to the announcement (12th)
We never announce anything to anyone until we've announced the winners on the stream
Hey Folks, I am looking for a few people to join my team on a game jam.

@tranquil matrix Thanks for clarifying, do you want to pin that? Because I've seen a bunch of people saying you will get emails before the stream
@loud basalt Other than having the lovely Gold/Orange color in my name, that's the extent of my privileges here ^_^
Ah
Not sure why they would think that though
"Each potential Winning Entrant will be notified via the email address provided with his or her Submission on or about December 12, 2019."
on track to hit the stream target date? 😛
Can't do anything but make it at this point 😉 https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/events/1693865
2019 Epic MegaJam Results
WHAT
The 2019 Epic MegaJam has come to an end, and with over 460 submissions(!) the judges are having a busy, but cat-tastic time. Join us as we announce the three finalists, the modifier category winners, and play them live!
WHEN
Thursday, Decemb...
I'm so happy about my grade it had the word "nice"in it 😄
I think they were all worth the price ;P
Finished UE4 Megajam 2019 playthrough stream (in only .... 12 days ;p) heres my final rating sheet with viewers scores (note on numbers of votes for accuracy check, some entries also got boosted for memes) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12BOgqU3YPSzXL-0KFXvxGNklLvSaoyKBb1sc4lNaWY4/edit?usp=sharing
You crazy madman, @gaunt copper - you did it!:D 460 games😮
Nice going @gaunt copper
Glad you liked our game so much @gaunt copper 🙂 The whole team really appreciates you playing it on the stream
Happy that you and chat liked our game @gaunt copper Ty for playing it 👍
Gj on finishing @gaunt copper ! I fell asleep before the end of the stream
There were sure some interesting moments this time around, and even more games to play - So thanks again for playing through them, It's really informative getting so many peoples opinions on these jam games
@gaunt copper thank you for your time you guys rock. Where is that +karma button when you need it?
thanks for playing @gaunt copper !
no problem ^^; glad you guys enjoyed it
how do I make it so my destructible mesh takes multiple hits before its destroyed
I haven't actually tried to set that up, but all the settings are there. I'd imagine if you set the damage cap to 1, and the damage threshold to 2, it should take two hits to break.
@gaunt copper it's so great that you go through and play all the games, thanks for doing it!
Means a lot to those of us who worked hard, to get to see someone play (and hopefully enjoy) them 🙂
Hey, who do I need to contact to acquire my badge as a winner from the last year's game jam?
Hi@gaunt copper , I'm the artist from HypetrainGames, the ones that developed Inner Demons.
Thanks a lot for playing it! I'll watch the playthrought this afternoon. And I'm really glad the viewers and you liked it. :)
I let the link here so any of you can play it. https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam/rate/521362

@dry torrent not sure if your game is in a technical jam/or a pickle, but id check out the #animation channel, personally never had that issue with anim bps and im hacky by nature i tend to attract bugs (is it shower day already)
@hidden flicker thank you. I'm such a newb that i didn't see i was on the game-jams hastag
1 more day until results
you're only disappointed if you were somehow expecting to win
I'm pretty sure we didn't win anything 😄
when you always expect everything to go wrong, you can only be right or pleasantly surprised. it's win-win
we built a pretty neat game, just lost too much time debugging it to get the polish in there
goddamn BP nativisation
lol
never heard that one before
;D
your game looked neat but all I remember was that nobody on Allar's stream figured out how to actually play it 😄
people just did random things there
Too bad almost no one could play my game because it’s Mac only (I don’t have a windows for export T_T )
there were instructions on the page, but ultimately the game was supposed to be simple - herd cats of the correct colours into your team's containers to score points
we missed out having instructions inside the game, which was a problem
but yeah, we lost quite a few hours trying to work out why the packaged game didn't work as expected, turns out one or more whole component was being dropped during nativisation
you would have to have a huge amount of blueprint for this to matter
I dont expect my game to win. I do want a swag pack tho
tomorrows stream be like:
you can buy some of the swag
Last I heard of official store being created was January
I dont want them knock offs lol
I just want my Houdini license extended 🤣
(although I think I saw a UE4 keyboard shortcut mousepad as swag before??????)
speaking of cool swag, I'd love to get my hands on one of the nvidia rulers
Knock offs available 😕
@gritty beacon blueprint nativeize can work great, and provide serious speed boosts - transformed an earlier jam entry of mine (Kashamari) from "slowish" to "good"
Oh! results tomorrow, eh? Don't reckon I'll win anything, but perhaps have a chance. Would love to get that i9 nearly as much as the bragging rights 😄
I'm not winning anything but I wish I could win a T Shirt.
@gritty beacon The problem with this saying when you always expect everything to go wrong, you can only be right or pleasantly surprised. it's win-win - when you're right it still comes with a lot of disappointment in this context
Would be nice to see some restructuring in light of how popular its becoming next jam
yeah, would be nice if all "winners" would be treated more equally IMO 🙂
like, right now they don't even give game jam winner badge if you win bonus category
I'd like to see team sizes capped at 3 but I'm biased since I prefer solo dev, I do think its quite a disproportionate advantage
and it doesn't really cost them anything 😄
They could remove solo dev category then
Maybe a bunch of bonus categories that just have swag packs, and then ~10 finalists or something
Well w/e, will be interesting to see how it changes with it getting so much bigger
bonus category winners always did get the forum badge?
nah
they've never gotten them
you can check https://itch.io/jam/2019-epic-megajam
they only list a "Game Jam Finalist" forum badge for the main winners
same for every jam
that just makes it feel that bonus category winners are not actual game jam winners in the eyes of Epic
Up from earth
@minor hemlock took me a moment there, was just walking away from my pc, got it and chuckled
Would be cool to have a stream of judges playing games (I know, shadowriver already does, but more is better, good to see other peoples first impressions and whatnot)
Hey! At what time the stream with results ?
thx
Is the livestream gonna be on their youtube channel?
In the past it's been on their YouTube and Twitch
Wow, super early.
best seats
thanks for that countdown!
he is not alone anymore
you missed my comment :3
The stream starts in 1 minute! Can't wait to find out who wins this year's MegaJam. 😄
So many cool games.
Best of luck to everyone!
no u
Lol
tiny award get!
@minor hemlock Heck yeah, congrats!
@loud basalt congrats 😄
😄
here comes first place 😮
i wonder if this gonna be the baby (spoiler alert) one :p
the grpahical one to be exact
dont mistake one where oyu carry baby to point xd
anyhow 6/8 my chances won something ^^ (including double award for cat catastrophy)
who made the last game?
don't get me wrong, i could sound like an asshole but i didn't get anything special about this game 😛
can somebody explain?
They actully creators of assimilation :> the MEgaJam 2017 top 3 winner
it was fun but too "ok"
thx 🙂
I still fail to see the theme connection on the main winner
just making the player a plant but still keeping it humanoid isn't cutting it
it looked like a solid game, just don't see the theme on the gameplay at all
@small fern you seen ending? :>
then thats why you dont understand
he couldn't finish it
IMO the theme should be present in the gameplay
Its also a measure against premaking
(Not saying anyone did, just in general)
How many winners had textures from GameTextures?
That cat falling with the clouds and target should have won IMO
we had flat colors for materials
the theme was "Down to Earth", a lot of people straight up just put earth
@gaunt copper I dunno if game is really themed at all if you need to finish it to see the theme
funny no one took like a non-literal meaning to their game
Theme should be obvious
You littely going down to earth
well im collecting salt donations, we gonna fill up a big bucket
fly it up to space
Lol
🙂
and then let it rain down to earth
they could not make this character without this theme
I know my game shouldn't win
thats how much i can say without spoiling
Over the moon
@loud basalt where the fuck was the last orb in the forest man I wanted to finish it but it was impossible to find <_<
Sorry @pine fulcrum maybe head towards the light, it seems to be the one that most people missed
@pine fulcrum you need to climb up at the end
We should have play tested more 😦 It's too hard
it inddeed feels like oyu not suppose to be there sometimes
I was parkouring through trees man
That area was supposed to be 'The floor is lava' but we didn't put enough mushrooms down and ran out of time
ayyy
I still remember "let's skyrim this wall" on Allar's desperate attempt to find the last one
yeaaaaah
Open world design was also a terrible idea for us 😛
Should have stuck to linear platforming
@pine fulcrum Did you @ wrong person 😛
i did
@uncut mortar lol you won either way ;p
but I committed
I know man, over the moon, really, I do wish they had more awards..
Too many good games this time around
@uncut mortar btw assimilation was my favorate entry in megajam 2017 ;] one i donwloaded
Ah sweet man 🙂
inb4 yall get fucked up at the gdc party
You can probably tell I was part of this game when comparing to assimilation
With Dapper Dan's Graveyard Smash we discovered a nasty bug the day after submission. >_<
But now that uploads are allowed again, we've uploaded a bugfree* build to itch. :)
*as far as we know
it was also my first jam i perticipate that how i know about that entry
Cosmo and Yuuko game was my teams game
yea it was cool
Congrats to all of the winners, your games were all pretty dope!
;p
btw i almost finish archiving my stream gonna post playlist tommorow or next day
Surprised you played through all of ours @gaunt copper you played through so many games
And ours ate so much of your time, felt bad
@uncut mortar making a playthrough stream go longer is definitely something you shouldn't be sorry about
free stream content yolo
I vote for the next jams theme to be "Buttbustin'"
Literally if a game was classified as finished i gave them a play
cause i know people dwould do the same for me
@uncut mortar that because i wanted to see the ending :p i usally dont do that when i got lot of fail atttepts
but i remeber there was entries that i played longer
in the past
To add some context to ours.. We are all professional artists, I am a Lead Artist at Electric Square, 3 of the others were from Supermassive and 1 other from Creative Assembly. I did take time off to do this as I really enjoyed Assimilation 2 years ago
Sometimes its the most dumb games that take the longest
like the platformers from hell
like the game that was literally a platformer in hell or something
@uncut mortar that explains a whole lot. your lighting blew me away

Im newer to game development here in cali so when i saw that i almost died
Our lighting was.. A little cheap, it was to hold all of the assets together, they were made rapidly so we did rely on using solid colour theory to make it as appealing as possible
When in doubt.. god rays 😛
God rays everywhere
literally my team had 3 people who have never made a game before and one of them is crying a lil from getting an honorable mentino
lmao
my gf did the art for our game
🤦
congrats to winners! really impressive work, makes my https://crevasse.itch.io/rescue-operations look like crap
shes never had people like love her art like people did
@open lava which one?
Truth be told, I did shed a tear too, don't think I have ever done that before 😛
cosmo and yuuko
@mental walrus could not play this one as it was mac only :p
cute cat washing machine adventure in space
yeah I don't have a windows T_T
@mental walrus iunno art wise I'd say yall a higher tier than many
Congrats everyone! really awesome job 😸
@open lava that nice entry for first try 🙂
@gaunt copper its me holy memelord
yea xd i know
i like how in this jam there was people who never tried unreal
not gunna lie for my next jam i wanna do a really tough no
premade assets and no outside sources
or even game dev
only made by team assets
2D is kind of level higher form beginner level thing to do in UE4
I worked for a AR company for a while doing Unity stuff but i was trained in unreal for school so this was the perfect refresher
our game almost didnt work cause of some simple stuff though and i had to ask my old teacher if he new a fix
I looked so dumb asking
the camera being in orthographic view broke our entire games textures and just flipping to perspective fixed everything
@mental walrus I didn't get around to playing your game but it looked like a fun setup for a puzzle or light strategy game 😮
ortho cameras in unreal are a trap
yea literally my old unreal teacher laughed at me on messenger for like 6 mins straight
@minor hemlock thanks! It was a blast making it all by myself as a first game made using unreal. Def a great experience
