the combat takes time to get use to because its about reading enemy animations and pre-emptively inputting attacks - knowing the speed of your weapons. one would compare it roughly to monster hunter, but not about grinding for gear
it's not hard it's just lateral game design
huh, my problem would be i doubt i'd have the coordination to read and master the timing of it all
i died about 10 times to the first few hollows in ds 2, but i got the hang of it rather quickly
its just a matter of getting use to the timing of things
then it becomes second nature

With older games, you can get away with rendering the model in a separate render target.
Not so much with current graphics, nowadays we resort to just switch to another camera looking at the same character models (but different entity)
Scene Capture has a lot of drawbacks in performance tho

Easy to dismiss that Fortnite uses UE5 by now, and the game still expected by Epic to run on average student potato computers
I think there's some scalability to nanite anyways for lower machines, if the meshes are set up correctly. Not sure about lumen tho

I havent tried it, but If that ue5 demo is anything like the Kite demo, it probably pushes machines pretty hard, but those epic demos are generally meant to show off features, not be optimized to run on lots of machines like a game would

so first of all, I'm a DAE student in Belgium, and this semester we got BP scripting as a class, and we have to make a game from scratch
so im quite confused what to do gameplay wise. The main implementation is there, everything works, I just dont know what to focus my gameplay around as my current focus is quite shit
so my game is focusses around you being a very shitty driver for a moving company and basically trying to deliver the moving boxes from one house to another as fast/as safe as possible, with wonky driving, obstacles etc in the way
so i sent this to my teachers, to no avail (prob bc its during the holidays, understandable)
asked a friend and they came up with quite a neat concept as well
I really dont know what to do now and where to go from here. Some feedback on the concepts in the screenshots would be much appreciated ๐ (which ones best, why, how to improve it etc)

you pick up the keys for your truck, go to your first house, pick up boxes and load em on the back (adds points per box) --> deliver them (points set) --> pick up more boxes at a different house
with obstacles on the way making it harder to keep the boxes actually on the truck
its a flat rear truck
So pickup then place boxes, drive truck to another location and then theres boxes at that location to repeat, ie loop?
no. You pickup at one location, drive to delivery location, to then get a new pickup location assigned from there, from where it all repeats

well, it handles intentionally wonky, as the main objective is to keep the boxes on the truck. Steering is wonky and truck flips over easily

Its set in a small town, so prob half a minute if its across town

could enlarge it ofc. The house it picks is completely rng so could be really close as well
release it on mobile, make it intentionally slow the add micro purchases for boosters that make the game normal speed

layout isnt finished at all, its just 2 blocks as of now to not make testing too long

If you mean player motivation for short term goals, then from your playtests its the things youd like to have to improve the task without the obvious literal improvements. For example a burst of NOS rather than a general speed up.
I do, just how its implemented rn i dont like, and idk how to change it for the better. As of now, it counts up with a timer, which in the end when a deliver is done deducts the points gained by the amount of boxes delivered. Since the picking of pickup and dropoff location is completely rng this could either be very close or very far apart, kinda making the points you get in the end completely rng
idk, im just a rookie at ue4 and gamedev in general at this point so maybe im just tackling this incorrectly

if it's your first or an early project, use the reflections you got from it as a springboard for your next project

Fun in game is not inherent (usually) and its the designers responsibility to find it or something like it. Getting bored of playing the same thing could just be that youve played it too much. Get play testers if you can.

there aren't any methods per se, it's just down to the context and working with what you have. if you have a mechanical interaction, you can check how long that should take. if you have an encounter, you can try and break down what is interesting about it and what isn't etc.
but really, just foregoing the word "fun" and see how you can describe something in other, tangible, constructive, terms is the way to go
