- Default settings for Rider's front-end are hit or miss (I think it's memory usage is capped at 1.5 Gb). With 59Gb at hand, you can give increase it to smth like 8 and never think about it ever again

Right now I use both VSCode and MSVC because both IDEs have their pros and cons with respect to C++, C#, and building. I also have multiple different project/solutions open at a time with them.
I have Rider open with a UE5 solution. I also wanted to open another instance of Rider with the entire repo folder. So while one instance is running, I double-click the Rider app to launch a new instance and... nothing. Try again... still nothing. I figured it was one of those programs that runs once and creates it's own instances. So I went to File > open, and tried to open the folder. No dice. 🤷♂️

Which I guess explains why I can't both have a solution and a repo folder with Rider.
The solution does not include the full code-base of the repo, which is why I wanted to open another instance for the repo.

I'm not sure that it'll work out though. Rider works in the ecosystem of VS (for now) eg it takes information about project structure and toolchain from sln/vcxproj files.
There should be an option to simply open a project, but Idk at what extent it's supported and it's a little past my curfew so I can't really dig Into it :)

It's pretty great (though you must take my words with grain of salt, I'm a little biased). I think the single best Rider feature is it's plain text search aka good old Ctrl+Shift+F.
Rider does take up time in advance to index your project, but having an instant plain text search across full codebase is priceless.

As you see, Unreal Engine in the case of GTA trilogy remasters is (likely) just wrapping the original game executables for the ease of cross platform. Think of it as its own virtual machine. People already pointed out on Rockstar Dundee, which was Ruffian Games who developed Halo MCC. In the case of Halo MCC, Unreal Engine also used as a wrapper to run original game executables of Halo across platforms.
Using game engine to run old games is not a new thing. Classic Doom rereleases are using Unity as a wrapper to run the original Doom engine. It's far simpler than the case of Bluepoint Games running source code of Demons Souls in a new engine.
TLDR: Unreal Engine is just a wrapper for the GTA trilogy remaster. In the end, it's still the same executables as the originals.

Thing with these open world games now is they seem like a chore, back when they were fresh and new for me it was all cool. Id spent hours doing side missions, collecting things but after you 147th time it gets abit much even with better graphics

Yeah achievements are alright, those are just like badges of honour they dont really lock any content like some games do. I like how PSN tells you how rare and achievement is, steam does have that functionality but its abit hidden on the profile widgets
Main issue I have with achievements is they dont really represent a persons play time. You might let someone use your account, you might have played it on another service etc so until there is a generic system which works across services its not really comparable in any way
I think that could be why some people are so rabid about defending certain platforms because of their investment in their achievements
Main thing with collection games with static pieces is its so easy just to go online, find and collect em all, theres not really anything more to it.
Even making it more complex like X piece only shows up between Y and Z times, its still going to get outed lowering any sort of skill in finding when its actually available

Does anyone here remember jon.4183 ? Aka Angel Heart? I saw a reddit thread where someone said he passed away. If true that's really tragic, as a kid his UT99 and UT2k4 maps were big inspirations to me. Goatswood still gives me nightmares till this day. Playing UT2k4 today after years and just reminded as i see his maps how amazing they were.

Granted, in many ways, it is.
Though not as dramatic as UE3 to UE4, as both were developed in parallel. Unlike UE5 which was lifted from UE4.

Depends on who you're talking to, and what project they create.
If you ask me, UE5 is okay, but I won't make the leap until my game is fully done, DLCs included. I think UE4 can still be relevant for another decade.
