My reasoning for not going with a 3rd party platform, is when you sell a game on a platform like that is that steam takes something around 18% plus unreal takes another 5% just for using unreal. That's a automatic 23% gone. I have an awesome marketing team, who is established and trusted already. So im not worried about the marketing part.

Hmm, there was much confusion with that announcement. FullBody IK [what is now built in] uses a completely different solver than PowerIK uses.

most stealth games use sight, not sound (or if they use sound its in the simpelst form - shoot, AI reacts), and im looking for something more advanced, like noise range (different for different actions), noise visualization

I wouldn't say that. There are some sophisticated sounds detection systems. However, experience shows that gameplay is more important than physically correct sound, so they frequently intentionally make them more dummy. Anyway, if you want to discuss game design, that channel was removed - haha.

also I can see why you were asking about having more physical materials... because I think you might be misusing it slightly 
haha yup, totally am, but its just the prototype, what im doing atm is having a physical surface per body part, so like, head, upperarm, lowerarm etc, and read damage from a hit on that surface
you should be able to just read the name of the hitbox or something
also if your damage events are all just choosing a damage multiplier based on what was hit, it would be much easier to have a Map variable which contains a mapping of body part to damage multiplier
then all you'd need to do is look up the value from the map instead of having that massive switch
ohh never used maps before, but i could give it a go

its done via the physics asset so for each set of constraints i can add a material
you can just combine the hand, lowerarm and upperarm and addisgn the "Arm" material but i wanted to do individual parts

I would have got back into gamedev sooner but I've got an illness plus with covid keeping the kids out of school, I have nowhere to get peace and quiet unless I live at night-time. Which is kind of tough when you have to look after kids.

I need an office. Somewhere I can think. I also need an income so I'm not power-working myself into another burnout. When covid started, I panicked and started trying to make some plugins and working on my own game. But the pressure to earn pushed me into working from morning to night, often 2 days without sleep. Then my illness kicked in real bad and I lost it. The past few months I've just stopped doing anything, trying to get my head back in gear, but it's not working.

its actually easier code-wise to just program for 2 paths, client and server rather than having to make exceptions for listen
all you need to do is boot dedicated and join with a client instead of doing listen

I dont like the way listen servers are handled overall
or can't let the clients open the game x2 times
theres not much difference performance wise between listen and client/dedicated tbh
you might think theres savings but in reality its all about the same resource usage because of the server authoritative pipeline
maybe if there were P2P clients
character physics in particular can be better handled through more P2P for coop, its easier to do the client side compensation and let the other clients fix issues on their end rather than server sync. Reduces a fair bit of rubberbanding
you'll have to test it see if it works or not lol

its not just on meshes that are close though, its applied in the shader so its always on just depends on the setting as to how dense the tessellation is
Anyone done anything building with pixel sized objects by chance ever in UE?
Wondering if this would create a greater load than having a bunch of models, etc..
The U on the left, is all pixel blocks, all scaled down to 0.003
I left one pixel above to show how big the pixels actually are in relation to the letter
ue4 and 5 support at least 4k pixels, from what I saw 🤔
However, if you are asking seriously, you may have better luck on the dedicated channels, like graphics, general, ue5 & so on.
I know a dev who moved from 2d sprites to 3d meshes as the sprites were killing performance.
It does seem to have a slight pull on performance, I did 37,000 pixels
Once you get close enough it tends to get a bit more sluggish
So I would imagine with a whole lot more, it would only complicate and add load times and resource usage of the cpu/gpu

i notice these structures have some erosion type going on from the constant water dripping on them
or running down them I should say
some are folded, but always have that erosion texture and kind of bumpiness to them
the folding effect though is just where the erosion from water likely channeled through
they were probably once a solid round piece or something
the top or base, would be like a petrified mold texture where spaced where it almost but not quite looks like some kind of fuzz

This quick Blender tutorial will show you how to smoothly shade objects like volume to mesh and mesh primitives added in geometry nodes. I happened to use Blender 3.0 but the shading works in Blender 2.93 as well.
