Im trying to understand something and failing.. I always see people use material ID maps on their models. How is that different from me selecting parts of my mesh and assigning different materials to those sections and importing that mesh and assigned mats to something like "Mixer"? It would work the same way, no?

probably better performance to have less materials in total, especially those that cant be instanced
similar issue occurs when having multiple meshes attached and swapped on one object (i.e. clothes on a character), as typically even if the objects use the same material they eat a drawcall also

yeah once you get the flow right. It's a little specific. Especially with the clumping
I highly recommend the plugin I posted if you want to do things like bake down to hair cards and such. I know the Jandals one is ok for converting curves so you might not need to. Depends how far you want to take it. I couldn't say why your render is so far apart from the viewport though. Not seen that happen before

if you animate the root of the character then you can just allow the animation to use root motion
so if u made the character walk forward in their walk start animation
u can use the root motion to make them move in the game world instead of only in animation
u can also use the stuff for animation re-targeting, idk if its UE5 only, but that lets you adjust how/where the motion is transferred
