@zinc matrix moment you plug something into wpo, if the mesh is nanite enabled it just grays out the mesh

Shaders are done compiling, 50 fps in third person template @ 1440p on 1070Ti

light lodge
#

@humble remnant What were you getting on UE4 with that lol

fathom wadi
#

51fps

humble remnant
#

It was >100 for sure

#

The only change I did was tick the "support hardware raytracing" option in the project settings

median wraith
#

There is something broken

humble remnant
#

However, it doesn't feel like 50 if I have to be honest, it feels smoother

Good to know

Like 70% of my mechanics are based around hits/traces

Ah, you mean in terms of code

Many things were updated like that in 4.25->4.26 I remember

#

Or was it ->4.25, not sure

#

I skipped from 4.24 to 4.26 directly

#

@finite lark the new tools come with a tool to generate voxel meshes

#

Look what happen with you pass near the voxel mesh

#

the new physics system

#

takes 122ms to compute

#

"Chaos"

humble remnant
#

I think that has more to do with how the voxel mesh collision is generated

median wraith
median wraith
#

Is using complex

humble remnant
median wraith

but still even on this cause this shouldn't be a problem

as I had lands with more polycount

finite lark

median wraith
#

40k triangles

finite lark
#

in chaos it goes down to 30 fps :v

median wraith
#

well it promises what the actual name claims

humble remnant
#

But is it a single collision object or every triangle is a separate object

median wraith
humble remnant
#

I think that has something to do with it

median wraith
#

Lument have flickering

#

you can see the left side

#

its doing flickering all the time

#

when the surface it too angled near 90º

#

Aside from that seems like managed to make big areas without issues

#

I would be fine if they make a prebake system with probes

#

ala Crytek if that gives me 10ms back

fathom wadi
#

did you know it's early access? 😄

regal pecan
#

It's raymarching through distance fields, I doubt they can bake anything.

median wraith
#

yeah but SSGI still there with absurd costs so

median wraith
#

and the system seems to use probes

#

idk if are prebaked or whats going on

#

it takes a bit to refresh when you move things

regal pecan
#

Any good video of that? Sounds like the same thing that happens with vol fog.

So what are the new world bounds now that UE5 has double precision?

median wraith

#

lol

#

happy charcoal day

fathom wadi
#

@mossy nexus I made my own version of that so I can use mine but im just gonna install and compile it to see how they did it with UE5. Mine was never best practice for UE4 anyway so it lost some optimisation but for my purpose I didn't need what optimisations it offered anyway due to small levels.

median wraith
#

@zinc matrix I have to spot all the negatives in order to do the positives you know

humble remnant
#

This must be the biggest storm I've experienced in a long while

fathom wadi
#

@rare sparrowgood question. It would be magnitudes larger though before floating point is an issue. Consider we had workarounds for rebasing in UE4, I'm guessing the 16km mark (where I always started to consider rebasing) is considered as = 2^4. Then 64 bit is gonna chunk that up exponentially.

humble remnant
#

I went to the bathroom and when I came back, there was a stupid powerful rain and lightning was striking like every 5 seconds

With the power of UE5 and a well timed lightning strike, @humble remnant transformed into... The Unreal mannequin

humble remnant
#

My name was Manny all along

median wraith
#

@zinc matrix look, let me point out the biggest improvement

#

They did async load

#

so you don't to wait 500 years in the start screen while all loads

cursive crypt
#

Damn... A lighting stroke and I heard a pop sound from my PC (it was turned off). I'm crossing fingers for tomorrow.

fathom wadi
#

a sink load

median wraith
#

isn't something new, but is something I don't know why wasn't a thing

fathom wadi
#

is there any new asset sharing management system for when we have 20 projects that all use megascans ? I kinda don't want to have 100gb of assets per project when they are shared

median wraith
#

It feels like UE4 just relased rather than UE5

#

due the light and the async load and the features we expected by the old trailer xd

humble remnant
#

@cursive crypt in Sofia?

fathom wadi
#

it would be nice if the built in Bridge let us package from there too. Seems logical

#

that way I can get a nice new SSD and store them all for future use

humble remnant
#

Alright, so

mossy nexus

UE5 bridge also does not snyc with the standalone version...

UE5 third person template runs at 40 fps 1440p on 1070ti

But like

The second pic is at 50% screen percentage

#

First pic is at 100%

#

There's like no difference

fathom wadi
#

are you testing it out of the box or setting up the lumen/nanite for it?

median wraith
humble remnant
#

30% here

#

Yeah, everything pretty much completely out of the box

humble remnant
#

The only difference is I ticked the "support hardware raytracing" which doesn't even affect me on my GPU

#

Third pic you can definitely see the edges of the rendering but

#

Other than that, holy shit does even 30% look good

mossy nexus
#

according to Quixel it's not a feature yet

median wraith
#

ala Crytek

#

rather than limit it to 2000 and 3000 series

humble remnant
#

Yeah

#

I mean I did support RTX, through software rendering

But seeing this is great

#

Alright

#

I saw how it runs on 1070Ti

#

Now time for the real test

The HD 6790

ivory swallow
humble remnant

The engine certainly runs on a 6790

#

A 1 GB VRAM GPU

#

Though all the graphics are at 0

#

Shadows turned from off to low

#

Screen percentage at 40%

#

This is amazing

#

There's just a small issue

#

Running HighResShot 1 crashes kekW

#

Yeah

#

Much nicer than UE4

#

Took me a total of 45 minutes to build template project for windows

#

But it properly works

#

Goddamn UE5 on a 6790

mossy nexus
#

@zinc matrix got this answer from Quixel support.
**You should have no problems at all changing your Local Library! However, I believe your already downloaded assets from the Bridge desktop application will not sync into UE5, so you'd still have to re-download the assets from within Bridge in UE5 as they have been specifically altered to give you the best experience. **

By default, all the assets you download from Bridge inside UE5 are placed in the following location on disk:

Win: C:\Users<user>\Documents\Megascans Library
Mac: ~\Documents\Megascans Library
Linux: ~\Documents\Megascans Library

To change this path, click on the user icon in the top right corner of the Bridge window and select Preferences.
In the Preferences dialog enter the path that you want to save your assets to and click Save.

*This path is the same as the default path for the Bridge desktop application. *

There's an additional /UnrealBuildTool

I don't have Rider tho

#

Did you fix it in the end or did you do something else?

#

I don't have such a plugin enabled so now I'm in checkmate

#

Guess I'll procmon to see what it tries to read then

#

So it succeeds in finding it once

#

Then it goes back a folder and it fails

#

Attempting to run the UE5 version selector with the project commandline simply fails

The thing I wonder is

#

Actually

I'll try something

Seems like UE5 says goodbye to 32 bit

fathom wadi

hell yeah about time too

humble remnant
#

Welp

#

It succeeded after removing Win32 refferences

#

It is time to go

2842 modules to compile

#

Are you trying to open the demo

#

Oof

#

I guess my fate shall be the same

I've been thinking of developing some tech where someone could play the level completely boxed out for max performance while someone else can have the normal version

#

Mostly because I'm trying to be as inclusive as possible on my hardware support

30 minutes have passed and compiling is at 460/2842

#

This might be slower than the actual UE5 compile

median wraith

They mean next next gen, aka PS6

humble remnant
#

Seems like sg.EffectsQuality 2 or more enables many of the new features

#

Specifically GI

#

If I turn that on my 6790 the framerate dips to half

#

Shadows being on further halves the fps

#

However it seems like effects at 0/1 makes the engine runnable on ancient hardware

#

Otherwise I get frequent crashes for out of VRAM

#

Console experience UE5

#

Effects quality at 1, everything else at 3, resolution scaling at 33%

#

Turning that to 40% makes the fps damn near 30 but not quite

Also there's the sound of a vacuum cleaner coming from my server

The new UI is... Interesting

@humble remnant is it a UE4 plugin you converted over to UE5?

humble remnant
#

I think it was an early version of the water plugin

ivory lodge
#

Did they at least get rid of redirectors in UE5?

fathom wadi
#

there are some C++ changes with how pointers are handled and they are now in the form of a new templated TObjectPtr which you need to convert over too. Might be something to look into

humble remnant
#

Aight, number of UE4 plugins cause a crash in UE5

#

ShallowWater, RemoteSession, PanoramicCapture

fathom wadi

im surprised any work as the new pointer system is drastic

pretty much every plugin would need the type conversion done. But there is a tool for any viewable pointers

Time to open my most complex level and see how buttcheeks it is

ya i havent been able to run ue4 with wine but who needs wine with lutris and db proton...steam is already acknowledging linux its only a matter of time before a major break through happens

I mean, Mutahar (SomeOrdinaryGamers) uses Linux for his main OS, and uses KVM for gaming.

hmm yep but the epic store is a pain have to run it in wine to download some assets

🤭

unborn bone

you mess with java you cant think in C++...i think they teach you that to hobble you as if 4th generation languages should be able to handle your pointers and garbage collection, that idea way of thinking destroys your will power

#

i suspect the coders of the past knew what they were doing...wich is why you dont find games like everquest anymore

fathom wadi
#

of course they knew what they were doing. There was no easy way to do anything so they built the tools.

why is it 8 bit games in nintendo have more creativity than most mmorpgs...one only needs to look back at games when people had less to work with and yet made more

only linux users have patience

UE5 cant be broken, it's not even ready

that doesnt matter when you have long filenames enabled. My max path is bigger than that

not to mention all the spyware they built into win 10 after windows 7 it was just to much, think about all the waste your processes go through powering their hive sky net system

I still think RTX is a fool's errand for game dev

#

It's kinda like military arms procurement ... the new hotness now is what you'll see starting to be standard 10+ years down the road

#

And you're having to manage the visuals for two different pipelines with a very disproportionate userbase

#

That's definitely been one of my complaints. I've played too many games where I have a vague idea of my surroundings rather than being completely blind.

#

That may not have come across as sarcasm. I don't know. Doing stuff that's supposed to be dark is hard... because you still need a player to be able to see things in some way.. and you need to take into account 1) The player's visual acuity, 2) The calibration, or lack thereof, of their display, and 3) Their lighting conditions. All things you can't control.

I'm also not sure if anyone's ever done something like real low-light eye adaptation

Its just puzzling its not like other applications where you can work on multiple files at the same time, I do tend to copy/paste from other maps. What I always envisioned Unreal Engine as myself was more of a Virtual Machine type service which runs in the background even when youre in the IDE which is abit what Rider does but not quite there yet. For me the level editor is just a small part of it not the whole thing

real palm
#

That would be a very cool UE

#

Just close out all windows (which unloads what it can) but long processes keep running (building lighting, say)

You can summon the BP editor (and either then pick an asset, or pass it along with the launch string) from a launchy-like widget

pearl elk

yeah bit like running the editor as a dedicated server 😛

Just have every pane be able to be a dedicated window (instead of main tabs)

pearl elk
#

Its not about devs, its about production people spoke the same way about horses as youre talking about UE4

#

then Ford came along and woo, it was more than a facelift it changed production forever

#

the specific thing I mention about loading into a level is actually from UE1, one of the last remnants tbh

#

I already do alot of work outside UE in regards to assets etc so having access to the engine without having to boot up the whole shebang, just drop an asset quickly onto the content panel from another app would save me so much time. Lots of little things like that, having the VM there when working on game code would be invaluable to me too, much more than having to compile the entire project all the time

#

I get why it has to stay the same but as someone who has had to put up with 3dsmax's crap UI for over decades, kindly, eff that!

Progress is a good thing and Im tired of "progress for progress sake" argument

Im still gonna have to make my own gizmo, Im so over this ancient piece of turd

Certainly seems like the hype was justified.

pearl elk

for those two features it certainly was, I get way better FPS for lumen than RT

#

that said UE4s RT did seem alot faster than games Ive played but that could be down to only testing demos not full games to compare with

#

really need AAA titles with similar feature sets to do a proper analysis

Im disgusted with UE5. I mean, for years we complained that SteamVR is enabled by default. Load up my first project and what did it do? Loaded up SteamVR by default. How dare they. I want a refund.

@light spruce the screendoor effect is minimal on the Vive. The last time it bothered me was on the DK2 really. The Oculus CV1 all but eliminated it. Its still apparent on the Vive 1.0 mostly when you are in the highest or lowest contrast views, but anything with a nice mix of colours blends it out. Plus you relax your eyes when you use it longterm so you see past it. But its still there if you focus on it. I would imagine the latest 2k per eye screens wouldn't have much of an issue with it.

I had a rift. My brain just can't ignore stuff like that.

I'm really unclear why they put in a Glock 17 with a full auto mod versus... just a Glock 18

pearl elk
#

Most game devs arnt too weapon savvy, Id say that has alot to do with it

light spruce
#

See, that's what's odd about it... because the stuff is mechanically correct

#

Because there is a modification for a Glock 17 and part of the replacement they have in it... It replaces the striker cover plate on the back, sticks out past the slide, and has a cross-bolt type selector

quasi mantle
#

We had this idea of putting Beretta 92 into my game, but deemed too modern for steampunk fantasy.
So we merged Beretta 92 with 1911

light spruce

Doubtful. It's just not all that common, really. It's basically just a purposefully odd decision

#

Because an 18 just looks like any other Glock but it has a rotating selector on the left side of the slide

#

Also, merging a Beretta 92 with a 1911 makes me sad for so many reasons

pearl elk
#

I just think it might not have been a concious decision more just rolling with what they know

light spruce
#

And makes me thing of that South African gun that was a Beretta 92 copy with a weird slide built up around it

light spruce
#

RAGE mode

#

Man, what the shit do you do with all of that memory?

pearl elk
#

yup this GPU supports hardware RT, its not as fast as a 3080s RT cores but it does alright

#

I actually need more RAM tbh, I do run out from time to time already 😛

light spruce
#

Which makes my question even more interesting

pearl elk
#

its because you gotta multiply RAM per core, with my 8 thread machine 32GB was plenty but with this 32 thread machine 64GB aint enough because of the ratio

#

( I also have 600 tabs open in my browser)

light spruce
#

I don't know how people live like that

#

Reminds me of a guy I knew back in the early 2000s. Straight Linux guy. He'd need to switch to working on something.. so he'd just create a new workspace... and then sometime later he'd realize he had about 35 of them sitting there

pearl elk
#

I dont even get close to using my GPU RAM though, need more games to push it to the limits 😛

light spruce
#

VRAM hasn't really been much of a limiting factor for some time now

pearl elk
#

I think thats why Nvidia decided on smaller amounts

#

I like having about the same VRAM as a modern console does in total though, gives me that piece of mind any port will fit in there okay

light spruce
#

And they could increase their margins... as well as have someone upsell on more VRAM that won't get used

#

Big part of why VRAM hasn't been an issue... you have to control your assets going into that pretty tight for consoles

#

Also, that direct streaming off of NVME is actually something pretty damn good with new consoles

pearl elk
#

yeah the only platform where you have high end room to play is PC so its not the best investment, its better to go lower and you open up all those other platforms

#

there is the resizable BAR thing too now which allows system memory to play more of a role

light spruce
#

Art direction is vastly more important anyway... a lot of people miss that.

pearl elk
#

my GPU lists its total memory as part of my RAM+VRAM

#

adds up to about 48GB lol

light spruce
#

Do you remember when there was that AMD crossfire type stuff using an APU and a GPU?

#

(did anyone on the planet ever use crossfire?)

pearl elk
#

Im only a recent convert to AMD so Ive never used it

light spruce
#

It was an interesting idea... The problem obviously being that if you put any kind of vaguely functional graphics chip in with your CPU... you've got some serious TDP problems

#

Which is why all the APUs had lower CPU clocks

pearl elk
#

well theyre still exploring that stuff in laptops, as they shrink more they can fit better tech in there

light spruce
#

I don't super keep up with stuff... but is AMD doing any kind of that "big/little" core stuff in the future?

pearl elk
#

for a desktop though for heat dispersal its good to have chips separated, SoC has benefits but the latency is less of an issue when going for torque

light spruce
#

Obviously a lot easier to have a unified thermal solution whenever you just have the one chip too

pearl elk
#

yeah but theres only so much you can do to move heat away quickly, you have to design chips in a way that heat doesnt build up too much in one area which is why the big/little thing works well it creates a nice buffer

light spruce
#

That's not the only benefit to that setup

pearl elk
#

thats where AMD are killing it on desktop their all core boosts are pretty impressive

light spruce
#

There was an article on ars about how Apple is handling OS scheduling for their M1 chips

pearl elk
#

yeah but its tricky to compare reduced instructions against complex

light spruce
#

But if you could trade a couple full peformance cores for 4 - 6 of those low performance ones... it's pretty substantial gain for a lot of cases.

#

it's actually not related to the instruction set part

#

it's simply due to the core type and their scheduler

pearl elk
#

Intel have big/little x86 chips now so thats a better comparison for the architecture and the benefits of that design

light spruce
#

Do they actually have ... wait.. aren't they just like some weird mashup of an i-whatever and an atom or something?

pearl elk
#

Alder Lake later in the year will do the big/little on x86

light spruce
#

I would probably read anything written by Jim Salter.

pearl elk
#

hybrid architecture utilizing Golden Cove high-performance cores and Gracemont power-saving cores.

light spruce
#

Dude knows his shit and also made one of the best and simple utilities for automated ZFS snapshots under Linux

pearl elk
#

Id be more willing to look into Mac if the CEO wernt a tw..t

#

I appreciate what Apple have done from a hardware standpoint but its tricky to balance that with how I feel about them from a business standpoint

#

maybe if I could run a modded Ubuntu on it not their crap

light spruce
#

Yeah... I've got plenty of mixed feelings.

#

Someone had something running to some degree on it

#

I don't remember what. I read a bit about it a while back now.

#

Thing is.. mac os is like every other os... all of them are terrible

pearl elk
#

Im always looking for viable options, Im not exactly a happy MS user 😛

light spruce
#

You're just picking which software you can run... and after that.. which things you find the least shitty

#

There were a number of things that I liked about OS X

pearl elk
#

I do feel like Windows is part of the reason why modern hardware feels so clunky, it adds too much abstraction between you and what you want to do. I do appreciate Apples idea about getting closer to the Metal and they obviously do have some cool ideas about UIs... Shame they never pushed a decent multi button mouse or analog keyboard 🙂

median wraith
light spruce
#

median wraith
#

light spruce
#

Abstraction is easier and safer

pearl elk
#

Part of the issue with Intel and AMD lately is the scaremongering over meltdown, spectre etc

#

the scheduling has gone out of the window, they used to be able to use prediction to really speed it up

#

but since said prediction causes a flaw very few people will actually have exploited, it got patched out and boop, slow windows for everyone

#

wouldnt surprise me if M1 suffers a similar fate soon enough

light spruce
#

It's been so long since I've looked at the technical details of it

#

I remember that it did something stupid that wasn't just because of speculative execution

#

It's also a silicon issue, which means that you can disable those protections. Which reminds me.. I have no idea if mine is set that way or not now

pearl elk
#

I do know Apple can go wider too because x86 is abit bogged down with extra instructions but Apple still use an AI chip which does similar stuff to AVX

#

Its not all because of their CPU

#

or "cores"

#

which Im still disappointed about, how do you have a company called Apple and not have Apple Core

light spruce
#

Because it'd be confused with Apple Care

#

just not in this font

pearl elk

they have a package in their OS called Core by all accounts

Apple Care can be confused with Apple Car

I would really like Windows to be built on something that isn't so much legacy cruft

pearl elk

#

Win10 has some potential its just so full of itself 😛

light spruce

pearl elk
#

yup, I actually dont mind Android tbh but even thats made worse by poor choices

light spruce

I haven't used Chrome on it in quite a while. You used to be able to.. but.. it's not like they don't fuck around with things all the time.

pearl elk
#

they removed that ability to guide you to the share button, so you can copy link in share but why the extra abstraction for no reason

light spruce

pearl elk

its stuff like that though on every OS, they all do it and its just frustrating as hell

Yeah, I won't run Ubuntu because Canonical does dumb shit

pearl elk

they used to be too cool to follow trends but nope, its all bubbly and clicky

light spruce

My break point was when they put in the local DNS caching server

pearl elk

crazy thing is people growing up with these sorts of things wont see anything wrong, this sort of intuitiveness will seem foreign because they are so well trained

light spruce
#

Artists.

pearl elk
#

Cult of the Ribbon

light spruce
#

So many artists don't realize how dog shit their art apps are because they just learn "okay, this is how I do <whatever>" as a series of steps

#

With no logic applied at any point

pearl elk
#

its a visual procedure thats why

#

how many people use the default UE4 UI for eg

light spruce
#

I know I don't.

#

Thing is, I'm very in the middle where that no man's land is between artists and technical stuff

pearl elk
#

I do think Epic noticed that with changes to UE5, its a step in the right direction in terms of the main viewport, I was just disappointed to see all the subeditors were UE4 default

light spruce
#

I haven't even looked at it since I didn't have any reason to

pearl elk
#

I remember suggesting with UE4 beta to make material editor flow the same direction as Blueprint and they were worried because UE3 material editor flowed the opposite way that people wouldnt get it

#

if you watch a UDK material tutorial you have to flip it

light spruce
#

For me, I find the material editor frustrating no matter what

#

They did at least do a pretty good job of the way you can dock and split palette windows and all of that though

#

Why you can't just have a single content browser or have the multiple ones work right is beyond me though

#

I can't remember what it is about it that doesn't work right. I just know that there was something... And you have the option for four separate content browsers for ... some reason

pearl elk
#

I think its because some sort of tabs under the content browser would be too much

#

even though you got tabs in tabs in tabs in other subeditors 😛

light spruce
#

Yeah. I actually have some of that on purpose

pearl elk
#

tbh I dont like that BP functions are show as tabs

#

I think Id prefer if they were on the graph with the events just more distinct in their own little box

light spruce
#

like the equivalent of expanding a collapsed node?

pearl elk
#

yeah more like the macros

#

but even those open to tabs which is bad imo

light spruce
#

ehhhhhh that one is definitely a workflow preference there

#

I flip back and forth between stuff a lot, depending on what I'm doing

pearl elk
#

I get buried in tabs when people make excessive use of functions, its not so bad in text because you can see all the functions on one page but a function per tab urrrgh nope

light spruce
#

constantly wandering around would be sort of a thing

#

That's also where it gets into a dependency on how complex a function needs to be

#

There are certainly ones where it's like.. six nodes..

#

And .. yeah.. you don't need a tab for that

pearl elk
#

well in Unreal Engine even if its a getter it gets a whole page tab for itself 😛

#

maybe UE5 will inspire me to write some plugins to try to solve some of this stuff

#

must admit if I go through my wishlist I made for UE4 Epic has forfilled quite alot of them from the earlier years

light spruce
#

Whatever that damned ... wire plugin thing is is fantastic

#

now I need to go look it up

#

Man.. I'm tired of these video results in google

#

God. The misalignment of nodes and/or pins... lkshgdl;ahgkj

pearl elk
#

flat look is interesting, Im assuming it doesnt solve some of the issues with hotspots

#

I find sometimes you'll miss drag by a few pixels and it'll fail requiring you to do the thing again

#

the hotspots seem to be on the node itself rather than floating above

light spruce
#

oh

#

It took me a second to realize what you were talking about

#

I'm not sure even God could fix that

pearl elk
#

yeah the little glowy bits when you mouse over 🙂

light spruce
#

oh shiiiiiit what is this Darker Nodes thing?

pearl elk

light spruce

I just use curvy, my performance isnt impacted that heavily. Id imagine using more straight improves performance abit

quasi mantle

Guess I'll either steal icons from UE5 or make my own icon set.

light spruce

hows about a transportation wire which is like a big wire which can carry a load of other wires 😛

#

maybe cable is a better term

light spruce
#

That would actually be a pretty good idea

pearl elk
#

like so

light spruce
#

With a breakout node if you just needed to pull part of it off

pearl elk
#

yeah make/break like struct node

light spruce
#

I was actually thinking more along the lines of something like a reroute node

#

So it didn't have to be big

pearl elk
#

well it has multiple input/outputs

light spruce
#

or bake it into the reroute node itself for that matter

deep glen
#

hnng havent used Reason in so long

pearl elk
#

despite bugs BP tends to be 1:1 with wiring points

light spruce
#

I'm thinking of the case where you're going to need all the outputs of this node.. to go into the inputs of the next node... so you could just have that one cable that goes between them instead of like five wires... and then if you needed.. I don't know.. an actor. Right click a reroute node > break out > "BallsActor" and you get a wire for it to do whatever with

pearl elk
#

thats how the struct node works, you dont need to show all inputs/outputs

light spruce
#

I'm not sure how relevant Reason still is at this point... I heard they finally added VST support though

pearl elk
#

there are other nodes which have the + add pin too

light spruce
#

Yeah. I know how the struct node works. But not everything is going to take a struct.

pearl elk
#

its not a struct

#

thats just an example of functionality

light spruce
#

I think we're talking past each other at this point

pearl elk
#

reroute node isnt compatible with multiple different inputs

#

its that simple

light spruce
#

No, it's not. But I was saying that's a place you could bake that functionality in rather than creating a specific "cable breakout" node

pearl elk
#

you would have wires just disappear into a big hole in your graph

light spruce
#

The cake is a lie

pearl elk
#

I think this could work 😮

#

I shall call it Blueprint 5.0

light spruce

just some blueprint tools in ue4

prolly partially a custom build, but a lot you can do out of the box

The potential of M1 And UE5 is great both companies will lose if they don’t collaborate

pearl elk
#

Honestly I dont think Apple cares too much

#

I just never got the vibe from them that they have a higher calling past the business where I do get that from Epic even if the business gets in the way from time to time

#

Take the Facebook and privacy stuff, thats a great selling point but why now why not back before Facebook got so huge, because back then they wernt a threat?

light spruce
#

strategy

#

also different management

pearl elk

its about business right not some higher calling to protect its users

otherwise they would have done it day one and the fappening wouldnt have happened

no company is altruistic

pearl elk

but Epic is Tim Sweeney you see, its not like Apple

#

Tim Cook is just another guy with a side part in a suit and a tie

see now there was a time when Apple was closer to Epic, but that was a long time ago

^this was probably mostly because of Woz

Anyone with UE5 source have an issue with dotnet.exe? It opens like a billion processes and never shuts down when UE5 shuts down.

Possible but thats why dynamic duos work, you got one reeling in the other and they keep each other in check

I rekon thats how Carmack and Romero dynamic worked too, Carmack being the Woz

Similar... but I've never had the impression that Carmack wasn't basically a robot.

pearl elk
#

he's just a machine in how he reasons in regard to business yeah lol

light spruce

Like Woz actually has a personality. And a sense of humor.

pearl elk

I just cant go past how he gave out the engine as GPL

#

does anyone here actually see Tim Cook doing anything nice? like truly

Carmack and Romero = Woz and Ballmer alex

Why not GPL? You make a product, you can put whatever license you want on it.

GPL is... problematic sometimes

wtf

pearl elk

but cmon guys what license does Apple have thats better than any GPL 😛

light spruce
#

When GPL can restrict what other software portions you use, that's a problem.

pearl elk
#

least with Unreal Engine I can download the thing, boot it up, use it no Warios

#

youre still missing the point

median wraith
#

GPL cannot ship into consoles

#

but somehow some projects did

pearl elk
#

Apple can restrict the entire platform, GPL aint anywhere near that level of asshattery

median wraith
#

can we ship a title using GPL inside the Apple Store

#

and destroy the store from the inside ?

light spruce
#

No.

#

Because the only way for that situation to occur would be for you to have already violated the license to begin with
