I only just started going grey in my 40's
better gray than bald I always say.
oof
@zinc matrix moment you plug something into wpo, if the mesh is nanite enabled it just grays out the mesh
RIP Marc's hair.
Shaders are done compiling, 50 fps in third person template @ 1440p on 1070Ti
@humble remnant What were you getting on UE4 with that lol
51fps
It was >100 for sure
The only change I did was tick the "support hardware raytracing" option in the project settings
However, it doesn't feel like 50 if I have to be honest, it feels smoother
damn, voicechannels are filled, did i miss something?
yeah they are all talking about you :p
UE5 is released and live
hey @median wraith happy birthday
@sage tendon thank you man o/
wow I forgot it's been at least a day since Hevedy's last birthday
😄
fudge me that animation warping is like the physical animation stuff I always wanted.
minus the machine learning
HueV birthday
800 modules to package third person template for development
Inch resting
Good to know

Like 70% of my mechanics are based around hits/traces
Ah, you mean in terms of code
Many things were updated like that in 4.25->4.26 I remember
Or was it ->4.25, not sure
I skipped from 4.24 to 4.26 directly
@finite lark the new tools come with a tool to generate voxel meshes
Look what happen with you pass near the voxel mesh
the new physics system
takes 122ms to compute
"Chaos"
I think that has more to do with how the voxel mesh collision is generated
yeah I noticed
Is using complex

but still even on this cause this shouldn't be a problem
as I had lands with more polycount
21k
- I have a test with around 10 vehicles totally fine in physx ue4
40k triangles
in chaos it goes down to 30 fps :v
well it promises what the actual name claims
But is it a single collision object or every triangle is a separate object
I think that has something to do with it
Lument have flickering
you can see the left side
its doing flickering all the time
when the surface it too angled near 90º
Aside from that seems like managed to make big areas without issues
I would be fine if they make a prebake system with probes
ala Crytek if that gives me 10ms back
did you know it's early access? 😄
It's raymarching through distance fields, I doubt they can bake anything.
yeah but SSGI still there with absurd costs so
a dev named they can do Ray tracing over the system
and the system seems to use probes
idk if are prebaked or whats going on
it takes a bit to refresh when you move things
Any good video of that? Sounds like the same thing that happens with vol fog.
yawns
idk but the bounces from color seems to affect a lot given there are just 2 orange bits
The one thing I wanted to play with, I can't.... shakes fist at Epic
Which is?
World Partition, just can't get it turned on
Ah
the engine don't care about the GI checkboxes on Directiona, Sky etc
you can see the refresh GI probes
idk what these are at all
They removed the Skylight intensity slider
the indirect one does nothing
and I don't like it
🤖
oh is there wait
yeah is there
still the indirect one does nothing
XD
Hey I pointed things
Yo is Gamestop really gonna start selling digital games using blockchain?
So what are the new world bounds now that UE5 has double precision?
@mossy nexus I made my own version of that so I can use mine but im just gonna install and compile it to see how they did it with UE5. Mine was never best practice for UE4 anyway so it lost some optimisation but for my purpose I didn't need what optimisations it offered anyway due to small levels.
@zinc matrix I have to spot all the negatives in order to do the positives you know
This must be the biggest storm I've experienced in a long while
@rare sparrowgood question. It would be magnitudes larger though before floating point is an issue. Consider we had workarounds for rebasing in UE4, I'm guessing the 16km mark (where I always started to consider rebasing) is considered as = 2^4. Then 64 bit is gonna chunk that up exponentially.
I went to the bathroom and when I came back, there was a stupid powerful rain and lightning was striking like every 5 seconds
One lightning was so strong that half the city went completely dark
Including my place
So...no coding?
Power is back up
But holy shit in the span of 2 minutes how much changed
I was literally on my way to heat some food when I saw basically a flashbang and then the power was out
With the power of UE5 and a well timed lightning strike, @humble remnant transformed into... The Unreal mannequin
@zinc matrix look, let me point out the biggest improvement
They did async load
so you don't to wait 500 years in the start screen while all loads
Damn... A lighting stroke and I heard a pop sound from my PC (it was turned off). I'm crossing fingers for tomorrow.
a sink load
isn't something new, but is something I don't know why wasn't a thing
is there any new asset sharing management system for when we have 20 projects that all use megascans ? I kinda don't want to have 100gb of assets per project when they are shared
It feels like UE4 just relased rather than UE5
due the light and the async load and the features we expected by the old trailer xd
@cursive crypt in Sofia?
possibly
it would be nice if the built in Bridge let us package from there too. Seems logical
that way I can get a nice new SSD and store them all for future use
Alright, so
UE5 bridge also does not snyc with the standalone version...
UE5 third person template runs at 40 fps 1440p on 1070ti
oof
he said "oof"
"They're the same picture."
Maybe slightly, yes
But like
The second pic is at 50% screen percentage
First pic is at 100%
There's like no difference
are you testing it out of the box or setting up the lumen/nanite for it?
yeah in FPS there is
yes finally
The only difference is I ticked the "support hardware raytracing" which doesn't even affect me on my GPU
Third pic you can definitely see the edges of the rendering but
Other than that, holy shit does even 30% look good
according to Quixel it's not a feature yet
that seems like they added Ray Tracing for every GPU
ala Crytek
rather than limit it to 2000 and 3000 series
Yeah
I mean I did support RTX, through software rendering
But seeing this is great
Alright
I saw how it runs on 1070Ti
Now time for the real test
The HD 6790

Welp
The engine certainly runs on a 6790
A 1 GB VRAM GPU
Though all the graphics are at 0
Shadows turned from off to low
Screen percentage at 40%
This is amazing
There's just a small issue
Running HighResShot 1 crashes

Yeah
Much nicer than UE4
Took me a total of 45 minutes to build template project for windows
But it properly works
Goddamn UE5 on a 6790
@zinc matrix got this answer from Quixel support.
**You should have no problems at all changing your Local Library! However, I believe your already downloaded assets from the Bridge desktop application will not sync into UE5, so you'd still have to re-download the assets from within Bridge in UE5 as they have been specifically altered to give you the best experience. **
By default, all the assets you download from Bridge inside UE5 are placed in the following location on disk:
Win: C:\Users<user>\Documents\Megascans Library
Mac: ~\Documents\Megascans Library
Linux: ~\Documents\Megascans Library
To change this path, click on the user icon in the top right corner of the Bridge window and select Preferences.
In the Preferences dialog enter the path that you want to save your assets to and click Save.
*This path is the same as the default path for the Bridge desktop application. *
NiagaraExtras and Ansel not supported under UE5
maybies 😄

Oh
There's an additional /UnrealBuildTool
I'm trying to swap engine version rn
I don't have Rider tho
Just VS2019
Did you fix it in the end or did you do something else?

I don't have such a plugin enabled so now I'm in checkmate
Guess I'll procmon to see what it tries to read then

So it succeeds in finding it once
Then it goes back a folder and it fails
Attempting to run the UE5 version selector with the project commandline simply fails
The thing I wonder is
Actually
I'll try something
Turns out it's a pinned message in #ue5-general so not an uncommon thing
Yeah
Now my only issue is that I have to remove Win32 references from like half the code
Seems like UE5 says goodbye to 32 bit
hell yeah about time too
Welp
It succeeded after removing Win32 refferences
It is time to go
2842 modules to compile

Are you trying to open the demo
Oof
I guess my fate shall be the same
Yeah
Had that happen to me first time
"Oh, only 1000 shaders to compile to open the project menu, nice"
But alas
There were 4000 more

I've been thinking of developing some tech where someone could play the level completely boxed out for max performance while someone else can have the normal version
Mostly because I'm trying to be as inclusive as possible on my hardware support
30 minutes have passed and compiling is at 460/2842

This might be slower than the actual UE5 compile
They mean next next gen, aka PS6
ps5 is current gen
Seems like sg.EffectsQuality 2 or more enables many of the new features
Specifically GI
If I turn that on my 6790 the framerate dips to half
Shadows being on further halves the fps
However it seems like effects at 0/1 makes the engine runnable on ancient hardware
Otherwise I get frequent crashes for out of VRAM
Console experience UE5
Effects quality at 1, everything else at 3, resolution scaling at 33%
Turning that to 40% makes the fps damn near 30 but not quite
Also there's the sound of a vacuum cleaner coming from my server
The new UI is... Interesting
It looks clean that's for sure
That's how it started, let's see how well it goes 😹
Here we GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have changed the actor tick in general, but I feel like timelines run faster than the actor tick
Compiling shaders myself rn
I have set the affinity to only use 12/16 threads just so it doesn't jank my machine
I use a nonstandard audio setup that becomes cursed when it janks
Things are going decently fast for me
Seems like DOF has been removed in UE5
The water plugin I was using spewed errors during compiling
And atmospheric fog was renamed to volumetric fog
Or atmospheric fog was removed
Idk
i know people cant wait to get there hands on it but an early release is bound to have issues id rather wait
im slothful actually im a hobbyist if any one needs a weekender i do stuff for free but dont expect much lol...ima post a unpaid gig thingy
i think the gaming community lost its way after everquest...thanks to wow there has never been a game that achieved the original everquests greatness and thats before POP expansion, such a simple formula if a game developer followed it they would be successful
Yeah, at least you're actually able to do something now
How many people fell asleep? Or died from excitement?
I don't think I'm getting anything done tonight. For some reason my test C++ program says there is no main() ... even though it's one file with a function called int main()
Yeah. Sometimes you end up muting and deafening yourself then forget you're still in the VC
Or simply forget to disconnect
@humble remnant is it a UE4 plugin you converted over to UE5?
I think it was an early version of the water plugin
Did they at least get rid of redirectors in UE5?
there are some C++ changes with how pointers are handled and they are now in the form of a new templated TObjectPtr which you need to convert over too. Might be something to look into
Aight, number of UE4 plugins cause a crash in UE5
ShallowWater, RemoteSession, PanoramicCapture
im surprised any work as the new pointer system is drastic
pretty much every plugin would need the type conversion done. But there is a tool for any viewable pointers
I disabled those 3 plugin and now it works nicely
But yeah
I did get errors that are refs to a texture that was an access violation
Migrate your Unreal Engine 4 projects to Unreal Engine 5 Early Access quickly and smoothly.
I don't need those plugins anyway tbh
Oh shit
I forgot I have async loading
So I haven't even loaded the main character
My PC has become an airplane the moment I pressed the play button
My ears are now void
Having a bad time retargeting the close combat animations...
Some red thing has appeared during compiling
Normatlly I can just delete the skeleton. but it crashes.
its more trouble to run ue on linux but it pays off in performance, with windows your doomed its like dancing with a cast
Welp, I'm going to use that sucker until my game's finished.
Well, no, and actually no.
Red thing gone, nothing to worry about
I'd rather burn in hell for eternity or shot myself in the head than testing my games on many distros of Linux.
well depend son linux you use but pops leading the way because it incorporates nivida
well i use system 76 you do pay a premium but...you wont be disappointed with pops, the only thing lacking is support of course from ue4 and plugins since everyone continues to live under the tyranny of windows, one day the technical gap will be bridged its not far off before youll switch, i agree though there is alot more to making it work
Time to open my most complex level and see how buttcheeks it is
If my hyperbolic comparison of suicide with porting to Linux wasn't enough, I don't know what will.
Just test on ubuntu and leave it at that tbh
Besides, I assume many Linux gamers are turbo nerds who are capable of setting up their own kernel virtual machines or setting up WINE.
Don't claim full linux support, just ubuntu
And then other distro supremacists demand support for other distro, and the rabbit hole goes deeper.
I already put this into months of consideration, and in the end, fuck it. Forget about Linux desktop port.
I already implied that if a user uses desktop Linux in their own will, they should have smart enough of a brain to go through the hoop of setting up WINE or KVMs and game with it.
ya i havent been able to run ue4 with wine but who needs wine with lutris and db proton...steam is already acknowledging linux its only a matter of time before a major break through happens
I mean, Mutahar (SomeOrdinaryGamers) uses Linux for his main OS, and uses KVM for gaming.
hmm yep but the epic store is a pain have to run it in wine to download some assets
well i uselutris actually it runs epic thats one work around
Use KVM already lmao
Btw yes, I hated Linux desktop OS.
Even though I know that PS4/PS5 is FreeBSD at its core (at least consoles are fixed hardware)
I’m just leaving this here without context
Even back then I had bad blood with Linux, which subsequently lead to me having bad blood with web development
check out my tree its not optimized over 300000 polygons but my linux can handles it...lol created it on haxed copy of speed tree mad with moss leave
successfully broke the engine lol
just 440 000 blocks 😹
Appears to be a bit too much
you need to use that new UE5 feature 😏
I swear to god, I would've got too much stall if I went to consider porting my game to Linux.
I was so naive back then, thinking to port it to Linux.
Even then Blender works perfectly fine in Windows
I mean, Blender is in Windows, so no dual boot bullshit, no partition system diversity bullshit. My assets and stuff just works in Unreal.
And most importantly I can cover many millions of player-to-be just with Windows version.

Have empty projects always loaded this fast?
Yikes
@zinc matrix technically its a windowx version but it runs in wine
The empty UE5 project I'm messing around with feels like it loads faster than any empty UE4 project I've loaded
@zinc matrix indie version cant connect via firewall so it works without locking you out
@zinc matrix the tyranny of subscription model cannot stop the power of linux 🙂
🥱
PING
Imagine if he's being a dick by using GPL licence on his Unreal powered open source game.
hmm dont know if i could do that im to slothful, but im going ot find an indie team or something, i tried programming but i started with java and that was a mistake
🤭
you mess with java you cant think in C++...i think they teach you that to hobble you as if 4th generation languages should be able to handle your pointers and garbage collection, that idea way of thinking destroys your will power
i suspect the coders of the past knew what they were doing...wich is why you dont find games like everquest anymore
of course they knew what they were doing. There was no easy way to do anything so they built the tools.
why is it 8 bit games in nintendo have more creativity than most mmorpgs...one only needs to look back at games when people had less to work with and yet made more
Final Fantasy XIV is good MMORPG tho
there were lots of great MMOs. Anarchy Online, EQ, WOW, SWTOR, A whole range of non-western market MMOs.
lol ue5 broken...yep the wisdom of the sloth is proven true better to wait
only linux users have patience
UE5 cant be broken, it's not even ready
yep but it wouldnt work any better if they nixed all sorts of things like the fog system
Besides it's still early access. My game still uses UE4 because it's still works.
Although I use UE5 for research and linear animation project 👀
and i just found like this really neat auto landscape material that does procedural foliage, id hate to see that break if i upgraded
unreal sensei gives it for free on youtube, i love free stuff
with so many downloads the file probably shreded on git hub...that what happens on windows...they have to defrag now ya not a porb on linux
Oh, fuck off.
lol hoodie that devotion to billy gates is why games have died as a genre
Probably your directory got too long?
I always keep my directory naming short and concise.
that doesnt matter when you have long filenames enabled. My max path is bigger than that
Not gonna lie, I like his books about climate stuff.
even with ssds though windows has to defrag in the background to hide their shame, once a upon a time you were forced to do it yourself but now they can hide the fact
Okay, you're just straight up fanboying in echo chambers.
SSDs don't need defragging, baka.
not to mention all the spyware they built into win 10 after windows 7 it was just to much, think about all the waste your processes go through powering their hive sky net system
You can't even force Windows to defrag SSDs, no matter how hard you try to twist your narative.
きさま。
are you shitting on Windows ? That's so year 2000
One word for you:
Tolol.
lol when skynet is complete only the linux users will be free, youll come to us for help
yeah good luck with that
ora urusan, jancuk.
hehe ...lol yes ima troll but im bored
This literally means "I don't care, you fuck"
If the world collapsed and computers all broke, the last people I would goto for help are pretentious Linux elitists who shit on operating systems when they do nothing but configure their own because they can never get one they like.
make it based on IQ. really screw with people :p
Dude, I'm 22.
yeah if it was age gated a lot of the smart kids around here would lose out. And there are lots of them
says the guy who goes around making death threats over twitter? ok
that was random
im just baiting marc, dont hate me
😉
Even the local gamedev community (which are mostly Unity fetishists) are jealous to UE 🤣
gibberish chat!
"unity ded"
ah, finally, a familiar face in this new land
"unity fetishists"
Well it's in the bossiest language of the world (Indonesian)
ah
IT BREATHES
@zinc matrix Somewhere... I have video and it's so much worse
50% off framerates!
should the environment artist switch to the new version now?
<insert your own Cyberpunk 2077 launch flashback here>
I still think RTX is a fool's errand for game dev
It's kinda like military arms procurement ... the new hotness now is what you'll see starting to be standard 10+ years down the road
And you're having to manage the visuals for two different pipelines with a very disproportionate userbase
That's definitely been one of my complaints. I've played too many games where I have a vague idea of my surroundings rather than being completely blind.
That may not have come across as sarcasm. I don't know. Doing stuff that's supposed to be dark is hard... because you still need a player to be able to see things in some way.. and you need to take into account 1) The player's visual acuity, 2) The calibration, or lack thereof, of their display, and 3) Their lighting conditions. All things you can't control.
I'm also not sure if anyone's ever done something like real low-light eye adaptation

Just a quick note to this tutorial: Thanks to all the lovely people on Reddit, I've come up with an upgrade to this system that uses Instanced Foliage instead of an array of...
I'm going to wish I had more beer
I still find it odd you cant open UE without opening a level
I couldnt even get Epics own UE5 demo project to open with the source build and you think you can get your UE4 project going ahahaha
what would you be working on? Assets?
Nobody works on assets
Its just puzzling its not like other applications where you can work on multiple files at the same time, I do tend to copy/paste from other maps. What I always envisioned Unreal Engine as myself was more of a Virtual Machine type service which runs in the background even when youre in the IDE which is abit what Rider does but not quite there yet. For me the level editor is just a small part of it not the whole thing
That would be a very cool UE
Just close out all windows (which unloads what it can) but long processes keep running (building lighting, say)
You can summon the BP editor (and either then pick an asset, or pass it along with the launch string) from a launchy-like widget
yeah bit like running the editor as a dedicated server 😛
Just have every pane be able to be a dedicated window (instead of main tabs)
Close everything but the palette (so you can dock it next to Chrome and just populate the palette with suggestions from UE Forums
Literally only have a viewport running, perhaps as a showcase
That's so far off, architecturally
Well I did make this suggestion way back before UE4 launched so thats no excuse
they should have it done by now lol
Stuff like that would require exec buy in, hardcore tho
Pretty sure it'd take Tim wanting that feature set to get the ball rolling
While they're at it, they can uncouple everything from Game Framework
This is odd, its like UE4 with a facelift to me it doesnt feel like a new engine
UE3->UE4 was just a huge jump
I kinda didn't got what are these new game framework plugins.
UE4 is already so big, why would you completely change it and confuse devs?
yeah I couldnt find those on a quick inspection, will look more now Im not tired 🙂
Its not about devs, its about production people spoke the same way about horses as youre talking about UE4
then Ford came along and woo, it was more than a facelift it changed production forever
the specific thing I mention about loading into a level is actually from UE1, one of the last remnants tbh
I already do alot of work outside UE in regards to assets etc so having access to the engine without having to boot up the whole shebang, just drop an asset quickly onto the content panel from another app would save me so much time. Lots of little things like that, having the VM there when working on game code would be invaluable to me too, much more than having to compile the entire project all the time
I get why it has to stay the same but as someone who has had to put up with 3dsmax's crap UI for over decades, kindly, eff that!
Progress is a good thing and Im tired of "progress for progress sake" argument
Im still gonna have to make my own gizmo, Im so over this ancient piece of turd
"Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"
damnnit does this ValleyoftheAncient project not work?
keeps looking for UBT in the wrong place
okay thats odd, have to open it through the editor
hehe
Lumen may use hardware raytracing (;
Sounds like it doesn't work yet though
Certainly seems like the hype was justified.
for those two features it certainly was, I get way better FPS for lumen than RT
that said UE4s RT did seem alot faster than games Ive played but that could be down to only testing demos not full games to compare with
really need AAA titles with similar feature sets to do a proper analysis
Im disgusted with UE5. I mean, for years we complained that SteamVR is enabled by default. Load up my first project and what did it do? Loaded up SteamVR by default. How dare they. I want a refund.
How is the VR share moving btw? Seems still niche for gaming.
VR is always going up as the cost comes down and people have confidence in the Quest 2. AR moving up too
It's worth seeing if you can get a cheap Vive when people upgrade. It's still a solid headset and if you get a pair of Knuckles, its 10x better.
Price won't be matter if you're collapsing to VR in less than an hour.
Also Vive costs a fortune here.
If I upgrade mine I'll send you the one I have. It's a Vive Pre (the dev version) but it's the same as the release version
Wait, really?
I'm now concerned about the customs across border...
well I know you would use it for a good purpose. If not the gaming side, at least testing out some unreal stuff. And I'm always willing to help people making unreal stuff, unless they are asshats and I don't get that vibe from you 🙂
Well, I honestly want to see if my motion sickness can be cured at all with even more prolonged/daily adaptation...
I get motion sickness but usually only from badly created VR. If they know what they are doing, it's minimal and you get used to it after a time
Alright then.
I really appreciate the help and even thinking about passing your old one once you bought a new one 🙂
Terimakasih.
Pass it on.
It's a good trait to have because if everyone does it, the whole world benefits.
I wish I had my new 3080 RTX
goddamn MSI is a worthless vendor
oh wait, was it even msi... gotta check
yes
MSI: never again
Previous card died out? Was the 3080 supposed to be a replacement?
Im going to run another Gigabyte Aorus if I get a 3080. The 1080ti xtreme has been the best card I've ever had.
nah just a regular upgrade
I currently have a 970 GTX
it just doesn't cut it anymore 😄
Bah. Everytime I click the UE5 sample project to download, the launcher crashes. I guess that saves me 100gb at least :/
Someone should get a torrent going 😜
I'll just make my own level I guess. I mean, I saw the demo earlier tonight so I know what it entails and the overview of the sample project holds enough information to recreate methods.
My brain is incompatible with VR until they change the way they do lenses and screens
the new vive seems to be on the right track with a higher FOV. But I always thought the binocular approach was too restricted. In some situations you forget about it though
I can't not see the flares from Fresnel lenses. And I don't know what density it'd have to be for me to not see the screen door effect. Probably something with a native resolution that would require multi-GPUs to come back
<@&213101288538374145> Spam/phishing
😄
sorry
@light spruce the screendoor effect is minimal on the Vive. The last time it bothered me was on the DK2 really. The Oculus CV1 all but eliminated it. Its still apparent on the Vive 1.0 mostly when you are in the highest or lowest contrast views, but anything with a nice mix of colours blends it out. Plus you relax your eyes when you use it longterm so you see past it. But its still there if you focus on it. I would imagine the latest 2k per eye screens wouldn't have much of an issue with it.
I had a rift. My brain just can't ignore stuff like that.
Just how my visual processing works.
yeah it took me ages to get past it. I had to do dev work in a DK1 and DK2 and they were so bad for it. So the Vive was a relief and the CV1 actually impressed me with how small the effect looked
I've been saving my playthough of HL:Alyx for the next headset I get. I want to get some creamy goodness going first.
I mean, I still notice the ... weird matte coating on the Dell Ultrasharp displays that I've had in regular use for 9 years
At least it's not 100% of the time on that
Nice, you can port now the Blue Physics
😜
Make sure you set Nanites to Complex as Simple
😂
game design, house plan, game design, house plan, game design, house plan, game design, house plan......can't decide what to do.
plan design
announce an announcement?
That wouldn't be a bad idea 👀
the world runs on bad ideas
Theres no bad ideas only bad implementations :)
I'm pretty sure there are both
@pearl elk Odd question: did you ever play Receiver?
Okay
if you don't use nanite disable it with r.nanite because will return you almost 2ms back
What kind of frame times are you getting with it on?
Giving a Replica AI a shot, and wow, it's bad to my ears.
I think I can get away with comic book style dialogues instead of becoming laughing stock with AI voice acting.
Nope never heard of it before
moonbase 😛
There's also the "mm-rrrmm==-rmrmrmr0-fmmfrmrmrmfmmmf" noise stuff some people do
Only 2ms for nanite, what a bargain
does the launcher run on UE5 now?
I just thought of it because I was going to make some joke about making a shitty game that involved having to assemble an FAL... and that's about how far I got before I remembered Receiver and wondered if you had ever played it
100 gig for that ue5 sample project?
I'm really unclear why they put in a Glock 17 with a full auto mod versus... just a Glock 18
Most game devs arnt too weapon savvy, Id say that has alot to do with it
See, that's what's odd about it... because the stuff is mechanically correct
Because there is a modification for a Glock 17 and part of the replacement they have in it... It replaces the striker cover plate on the back, sticks out past the slide, and has a cross-bolt type selector
We had this idea of putting Beretta 92 into my game, but deemed too modern for steampunk fantasy.
So we merged Beretta 92 with 1911
Maybe they bought the model
Doubtful. It's just not all that common, really. It's basically just a purposefully odd decision
Because an 18 just looks like any other Glock but it has a rotating selector on the left side of the slide
Also, merging a Beretta 92 with a 1911 makes me sad for so many reasons
I just think it might not have been a concious decision more just rolling with what they know
And makes me thing of that South African gun that was a Beretta 92 copy with a weird slide built up around it
That's the thing you have to have sticking out of the back where you'd normally have a small plate
Not yet. UE5 isn't in full release.
Vektor SP-1
Vektor SP1 pistol, left side. Note that safety is engaged while hammer is cocked. Vektor SP1 pistol, rght side. Vektor SP1 pistol, General's (compact) model. Vektor SP1 Sport pistol, with long barrel and adjustable target sight. Characteristics Type: Double Action Caliber SP1 – 9x19mm Luger, SP2 – .40SW Length 210...
Is that an air pistol or a single shot .22 with a weight?
I kinda wish I didn't have a polished barrel on my Beretta. Black probably would have gone better with the paint.
Receiver 2
Oh actually you posted it lol
What gpu?
You have a master gpu it dont count xd
2ms is the nanite base cost for without even use nanite
Lol
Well the overall
https://twitter.com/phyronnaz/status/1397878081591791621?s=19 wellthis is sad
Ryzen 9 5950X (stock clock), 64GB DDR4-3600, Radeon RX 6900 XT in Rage Mode
Guess I'm in a peace of mind for sticking with PhysX
theres definitely something up with UE5 though, I get huge hitching, drops from 80-90fps down into the red at times
yup this GPU supports hardware RT, its not as fast as a 3080s RT cores but it does alright
I actually need more RAM tbh, I do run out from time to time already 😛
Which makes my question even more interesting
its because you gotta multiply RAM per core, with my 8 thread machine 32GB was plenty but with this 32 thread machine 64GB aint enough because of the ratio
( I also have 600 tabs open in my browser)
I don't know how people live like that
Reminds me of a guy I knew back in the early 2000s. Straight Linux guy. He'd need to switch to working on something.. so he'd just create a new workspace... and then sometime later he'd realize he had about 35 of them sitting there
I dont even get close to using my GPU RAM though, need more games to push it to the limits 😛
VRAM hasn't really been much of a limiting factor for some time now
I think thats why Nvidia decided on smaller amounts
I like having about the same VRAM as a modern console does in total though, gives me that piece of mind any port will fit in there okay
And they could increase their margins... as well as have someone upsell on more VRAM that won't get used
Big part of why VRAM hasn't been an issue... you have to control your assets going into that pretty tight for consoles
Also, that direct streaming off of NVME is actually something pretty damn good with new consoles
yeah the only platform where you have high end room to play is PC so its not the best investment, its better to go lower and you open up all those other platforms
there is the resizable BAR thing too now which allows system memory to play more of a role
Art direction is vastly more important anyway... a lot of people miss that.
Do you remember when there was that AMD crossfire type stuff using an APU and a GPU?
(did anyone on the planet ever use crossfire?)
Im only a recent convert to AMD so Ive never used it
It was an interesting idea... The problem obviously being that if you put any kind of vaguely functional graphics chip in with your CPU... you've got some serious TDP problems
Which is why all the APUs had lower CPU clocks
well theyre still exploring that stuff in laptops, as they shrink more they can fit better tech in there
I don't super keep up with stuff... but is AMD doing any kind of that "big/little" core stuff in the future?
for a desktop though for heat dispersal its good to have chips separated, SoC has benefits but the latency is less of an issue when going for torque
Obviously a lot easier to have a unified thermal solution whenever you just have the one chip too
yeah but theres only so much you can do to move heat away quickly, you have to design chips in a way that heat doesnt build up too much in one area which is why the big/little thing works well it creates a nice buffer
That's not the only benefit to that setup
thats where AMD are killing it on desktop their all core boosts are pretty impressive
There was an article on ars about how Apple is handling OS scheduling for their M1 chips
yeah but its tricky to compare reduced instructions against complex
But if you could trade a couple full peformance cores for 4 - 6 of those low performance ones... it's pretty substantial gain for a lot of cases.
it's actually not related to the instruction set part
it's simply due to the core type and their scheduler
Intel have big/little x86 chips now so thats a better comparison for the architecture and the benefits of that design
Do they actually have ... wait.. aren't they just like some weird mashup of an i-whatever and an atom or something?
Alder Lake later in the year will do the big/little on x86
I would probably read anything written by Jim Salter.
hybrid architecture utilizing Golden Cove high-performance cores and Gracemont power-saving cores.
Dude knows his shit and also made one of the best and simple utilities for automated ZFS snapshots under Linux
Id be more willing to look into Mac if the CEO wernt a tw..t
I appreciate what Apple have done from a hardware standpoint but its tricky to balance that with how I feel about them from a business standpoint
maybe if I could run a modded Ubuntu on it not their crap
Yeah... I've got plenty of mixed feelings.
Someone had something running to some degree on it
I don't remember what. I read a bit about it a while back now.
Thing is.. mac os is like every other os... all of them are terrible
Im always looking for viable options, Im not exactly a happy MS user 😛
You're just picking which software you can run... and after that.. which things you find the least shitty
There were a number of things that I liked about OS X
I do feel like Windows is part of the reason why modern hardware feels so clunky, it adds too much abstraction between you and what you want to do. I do appreciate Apples idea about getting closer to the Metal and they obviously do have some cool ideas about UIs... Shame they never pushed a decent multi button mouse or analog keyboard 🙂
Meanwhile the guy of the voxel engine https://twitter.com/tuxedolabs/status/1397682708227239942?s=19
I've been experimenting with fluid simulation lately as a side project. The increasingly popular particle/grid hybrid is truly fascinating and it's the first time I feel 3D fluid simulation in games is within reach. Here is 300k particles at 60 FPS, simulated on the CPU(!) https://t.co/PFys2c748L
164
2349
There are always trade offs.
300000 particles 60fps,me a peasant with 300 spheres 30fps
Abstraction is easier and safer
Part of the issue with Intel and AMD lately is the scaremongering over meltdown, spectre etc
the scheduling has gone out of the window, they used to be able to use prediction to really speed it up
but since said prediction causes a flaw very few people will actually have exploited, it got patched out and boop, slow windows for everyone
wouldnt surprise me if M1 suffers a similar fate soon enough
It's been so long since I've looked at the technical details of it
I remember that it did something stupid that wasn't just because of speculative execution
It's also a silicon issue, which means that you can disable those protections. Which reminds me.. I have no idea if mine is set that way or not now
I do know Apple can go wider too because x86 is abit bogged down with extra instructions but Apple still use an AI chip which does similar stuff to AVX
Its not all because of their CPU
or "cores"
which Im still disappointed about, how do you have a company called Apple and not have Apple Core
they have a package in their OS called Core by all accounts
Apple Care can be confused with Apple Car
the myth, the legend
Asked and answered!
Theres new ones anyways 🙂
I would really like Windows to be built on something that isn't so much legacy cruft
And.. you know.. have a modern filesystem... that's the one that really bugs me
Well its better than it was, these days its mostly just bloat though. Im hopeful of a Win10 Win7 style revision
Win10 has some potential its just so full of itself 😛
Like I said... they're all awful
yup, I actually dont mind Android tbh but even thats made worse by poor choices
sorry you cant copy/paste a link, you have to "share"
which is fine till you find out youre sharing a 1500 character link ;P
I can absolutely copy/paste or do share and then "copy" from there
God. Link gore. Gotta love that.
I cant copy/paste from the chrome address bar, I really gotta stop using it on my phone
I haven't used Chrome on it in quite a while. You used to be able to.. but.. it's not like they don't fuck around with things all the time.
they removed that ability to guide you to the share button, so you can copy link in share but why the extra abstraction for no reason
Google, home of ADHD
its stuff like that though on every OS, they all do it and its just frustrating as hell
I need to look at Edge on Android
even distros of Linux like Ubuntu do crazy shit like that now
Yeah, I won't run Ubuntu because Canonical does dumb shit
they used to be too cool to follow trends but nope, its all bubbly and clicky
My break point was when they put in the local DNS caching server
crazy thing is people growing up with these sorts of things wont see anything wrong, this sort of intuitiveness will seem foreign because they are so well trained
Artists.
Cult of the Ribbon
So many artists don't realize how dog shit their art apps are because they just learn "okay, this is how I do <whatever>" as a series of steps
With no logic applied at any point
I know I don't.
Thing is, I'm very in the middle where that no man's land is between artists and technical stuff
I do think Epic noticed that with changes to UE5, its a step in the right direction in terms of the main viewport, I was just disappointed to see all the subeditors were UE4 default
I haven't even looked at it since I didn't have any reason to
I remember suggesting with UE4 beta to make material editor flow the same direction as Blueprint and they were worried because UE3 material editor flowed the opposite way that people wouldnt get it
if you watch a UDK material tutorial you have to flip it
For me, I find the material editor frustrating no matter what
They did at least do a pretty good job of the way you can dock and split palette windows and all of that though
Why you can't just have a single content browser or have the multiple ones work right is beyond me though
I can't remember what it is about it that doesn't work right. I just know that there was something... And you have the option for four separate content browsers for ... some reason
I think its because some sort of tabs under the content browser would be too much
even though you got tabs in tabs in tabs in other subeditors 😛
Yeah. I actually have some of that on purpose
tbh I dont like that BP functions are show as tabs
I think Id prefer if they were on the graph with the events just more distinct in their own little box
like the equivalent of expanding a collapsed node?
ehhhhhh that one is definitely a workflow preference there
I flip back and forth between stuff a lot, depending on what I'm doing
I get buried in tabs when people make excessive use of functions, its not so bad in text because you can see all the functions on one page but a function per tab urrrgh nope
constantly wandering around would be sort of a thing
That's also where it gets into a dependency on how complex a function needs to be
There are certainly ones where it's like.. six nodes..
And .. yeah.. you don't need a tab for that
well in Unreal Engine even if its a getter it gets a whole page tab for itself 😛
maybe UE5 will inspire me to write some plugins to try to solve some of this stuff
must admit if I go through my wishlist I made for UE4 Epic has forfilled quite alot of them from the earlier years
Whatever that damned ... wire plugin thing is is fantastic
now I need to go look it up
Man.. I'm tired of these video results in google
Electronic Nodes. That's what it was. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/electronic-nodes
God. The misalignment of nodes and/or pins... lkshgdl;ahgkj
flat look is interesting, Im assuming it doesnt solve some of the issues with hotspots
I find sometimes you'll miss drag by a few pixels and it'll fail requiring you to do the thing again
the hotspots seem to be on the node itself rather than floating above
oh
It took me a second to realize what you were talking about
I'm not sure even God could fix that
yeah the little glowy bits when you mouse over 🙂
oh shiiiiiit what is this Darker Nodes thing?
sounds like black magic
third image in the gallery uses his plugin called Darker Nodes that's basically a theme
That... solves something I hate about the editor
lol, I kinda can't stand anything other than the default routing. These angled connections are put off.
I don't know!
I know that I always changed the default spline settings before using that plugin anyway
I'm not sure exactly how I had mine set up. I haven't touched Unreal in months
I just use curvy, my performance isnt impacted that heavily. Id imagine using more straight improves performance abit
This repo bamboozle me harder than fake PS4 emulator repos
Guess I'll either steal icons from UE5 or make my own icon set.
With the default ... if you have some really long stuff.. you wind up with them overlapping where they shouldn't
Because they'll tend to turn into an S
I wish I could pop wires behind the graph grid tbh hehe
they have em pop out where I need em
reroute hole
I got a huge list, support me on Patreon and sub to my OnlyCoderFans
No one is a fan of coders
lolololofkdj;aghggkkbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
i want grappler nodes, so when i select a node i can press firebutten and it shoots the line out and grabs if it is a valid connection
and mayB cluster nodes , it just grabs everything
hows about a BP spider which goes around wiring missing things for you
I'm suddenly reminded of using Reason
homing nodes, if u drag a float it finds the nearest float connection
This is definitely the kind of wiring stuff you want to have happening
yup that looks like my BP structs
cable ties?
If only.
You can turn them off.. but then you just have boxes everywhere instead...
Kind of shit either way
hows about a transportation wire which is like a big wire which can carry a load of other wires 😛
maybe cable is a better term
That would actually be a pretty good idea
like so
With a breakout node if you just needed to pull part of it off
yeah make/break like struct node
I was actually thinking more along the lines of something like a reroute node
So it didn't have to be big
well it has multiple input/outputs
or bake it into the reroute node itself for that matter
hnng havent used Reason in so long
despite bugs BP tends to be 1:1 with wiring points
I'm thinking of the case where you're going to need all the outputs of this node.. to go into the inputs of the next node... so you could just have that one cable that goes between them instead of like five wires... and then if you needed.. I don't know.. an actor. Right click a reroute node > break out > "BallsActor" and you get a wire for it to do whatever with
thats how the struct node works, you dont need to show all inputs/outputs
I'm not sure how relevant Reason still is at this point... I heard they finally added VST support though
there are other nodes which have the + add pin too
Yeah. I know how the struct node works. But not everything is going to take a struct.
I think we're talking past each other at this point
No, it's not. But I was saying that's a place you could bake that functionality in rather than creating a specific "cable breakout" node
you would have wires just disappear into a big hole in your graph
The cake is a lie
that's a pretty big version jump
youre right Kismet 0.5
Really, you should just be writing plugins for Lumberyard
that's.. still a thing.. right?
Is it weird that I actually believe Chris Evans could tear a log in half?
i once installed lumberyard
with his abs alone
I once installed lumberyard too
I seem to recall just installing it was a massive pain in the ass
I once got wood from Chris Evans
He and Stephen Amell got some abs
I have accomplished absolutely nothing in the past several hours.
I designed 10 plugins, solved world hunger and finished a game
I drank too much coffee and got tired
I feel like there should be something called goatmeal
i battled with my internet provider for hours and hours because the person helping was a doofus that disconnected the call each time the internet came back on after I rebooted the router, even though I kept explaining to him that within a few minutes the internet would go poof.
https://www.thesixthaxis.com/2021/05/27/dragon-quest-3-hd-2d-remake-octopath-traveler/
this cracks me up
Square Enix has announced a remake of Dragon Quest III in HD-2D, fusing the classic JRPG with the game engine created for Octopath Traveler.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFkbeCsEDrkAt this t
Is Octo thingy just a custom UE4 build?
just some blueprint tools in ue4
prolly partially a custom build, but a lot you can do out of the box
We don't even know if is even a custom build
yohoo sale, I was just wondering today whether to buy or not to buy
ue5 is so meh, ue6 is the best
That must be some Freedom conversion.
you guys has someone experience with this error while installing visual studio MSI: D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\Microsoft.VisualStudio.VsWebProtocolSelector.Msi,version=16.10.31206.173\Microsoft.VisualStudio.VsWebProtocolSelector.Msi.msi, Properties: REBOOT=ReallySuppress ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1 MSIFASTINSTALL="7" VSEXTUI="1" VSFOLDER="H:\Visual Studio\Shared" Return code: 1603 Return code details: Fatal error during installation. Like Donald Duck?
@zinc matrix I don't?
whitespaces often hated by programs.
I can't edit the path tho
64 bit is almost 1950 light years.
Assuming every unsigned integer equates to one metre.
🤔
Did Apple and Epic Solve their bs yet?
Waiting for verdict.
Damn , taking long
The judge knows how to build up suspense for the epic final anime episode.
I mean, Tim Cook got cornered so hard yesterday, and Tim Sweeney's tweet seem to be celebratory.
I hope it ends , I’m concerned about Ios development
Oh both are named tims
Didnt know epics have a tim
Always has been.
Tim Sweeney is the father of Epic and Unreal Engine lol
When programs don't like whitespace in directory and/or filenames, you should write them the most hateful mail for not doing their job right
Unreal Engine: "I pretend not seeing that"
There's no excuse for not supporting a filesystem feature...especially one that's existed for longer than some of you have been alive
The potential of M1 And UE5 is great both companies will lose if they don’t collaborate
Honestly I dont think Apple cares too much
I just never got the vibe from them that they have a higher calling past the business where I do get that from Epic even if the business gets in the way from time to time
Take the Facebook and privacy stuff, thats a great selling point but why now why not back before Facebook got so huge, because back then they wernt a threat?
its about business right not some higher calling to protect its users
otherwise they would have done it day one and the fappening wouldnt have happened
no company is altruistic
but Epic is Tim Sweeney you see, its not like Apple
Tim Cook is just another guy with a side part in a suit and a tie
see now there was a time when Apple was closer to Epic, but that was a long time ago
Anyone with UE5 source have an issue with dotnet.exe? It opens like a billion processes and never shuts down when UE5 shuts down.
Possible but thats why dynamic duos work, you got one reeling in the other and they keep each other in check
You're giving me Poe's Law problems, Mons
It's in UnrealEngine\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\DotNet\Windows
I rekon thats how Carmack and Romero dynamic worked too, Carmack being the Woz
Similar... but I've never had the impression that Carmack wasn't basically a robot.
he's just a machine in how he reasons in regard to business yeah lol
Like Woz actually has a personality. And a sense of humor.
I just cant go past how he gave out the engine as GPL
does anyone here actually see Tim Cook doing anything nice? like truly
Carmack and Romero = Woz and Ballmer
Why not GPL? You make a product, you can put whatever license you want on it.
he looks like an evil mastermind from a Simpsons episode or somethin
..okay that's not accurate at all I don't think lol
I was using it as an example of people doing nice things
Oh... nice
I still prefer MIT over fucking GPL
Don't get me started into GPL v2
but cmon guys what license does Apple have thats better than any GPL 😛
When GPL can restrict what other software portions you use, that's a problem.
least with Unreal Engine I can download the thing, boot it up, use it no Warios
youre still missing the point
Apple can restrict the entire platform, GPL aint anywhere near that level of asshattery
can we ship a title using GPL inside the Apple Store
and destroy the store from the inside ?
No.
Because the only way for that situation to occur would be for you to have already violated the license to begin with
Carmack have family, Tim no, who is the robot 👀
Golden handcuffs are still handcuffs.
thats new
Well nothing says Carmack couldn't have been more "robotic" in his younger days
still I love the id tech engines, but are just for 2 kinds of projects
I certainly was more antisocial in my younger days lol
Also I wasn't comparing him at all to Tim Cook. In fact, I haven't said anything about Tim Cook.
he stole some Apple computer wasn't he ?
He seems like a regular guy nowadays at least based on what I've seen
is even in wikipedia
It just seems most of the time Apple, Valve companies like that get criticised and the topic changes deflecting criticism in other peoples directions
a company exists to make money for its shareholders
it suddenly becomes about Epic and Tencent, shit like that
I'm a mercenary for a good reason.
Well Ive levelled my fair share of criticism at Epic too, I know Im not unbiased entirely but the level of cultism in the Apple camp is unsettling
its worse than Southern Baptists at a Trump rally
I don't think it's that bad lol
at least they're not advocating for evil shit
as far as I know? :p
try an Apple group on Facebook, but please leave a trail of breadcrumbs
yeah and sound business sense should tell you not to put all your Apples in one basket 😛
but good, it worked.
Just noticed the launcher seems to be much fast at loading the vault.
lol damn thats abit NSFW
I wonder what's going on with that Bill Gates divorce thing... it vaguely sounded like he might get involved in the Epstein stuff...
@lime fulcrum what kinda projects you interested in?
Bill, Elon and the Apple guy come from the same bottle
From Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference 2001
you cannot compare these to Tim or Carmack really
sus
I would much rather kick Elon Musk in the balls than any other person mentioned
sus
People usually don't know the past history of these etc
Before he had R2D2 as child
can we just send all the rich people to be miners on Mars?
sometimes... gunsmithing sucks butts, guys
tip to butt
oh this promotes steal in the market ?
Interested in what way
just like the navy
You said you're a 3d modeler and animator.
You looking to make architecture projects? Cinematics? Walking simulators? Multiplayer FPS where you can fly?
Oh i thought u meant game dev projects specifically. I specialize in 3d for characters
??
@cursive crypt is taking food an eating it before pay lol
aww... bad
And as an aspiring game dev, what's your play?
I always feel like it's good to have focus so I generally encourage newer people on the server to like 'pick' an initial project.
Do you want to do all the programming/blueprinting? Are you looking for others? What do you want out of learning UE, basically.
I mainly am good with art side but I def want to learn blueprints/coding as well. I'm working with a friend and we are planning on doing some game jam stuff to learn before deciding which game idea should be our first project
Except when family events intervening 🙃
its fun right up until your game gets torn apart by review
especially when the reviewers been up for 36hrs straight playing other peoples games and yours triggers em
Imagine when the game jam happens for 1 week, but then family events forces you to be apart from your computery for days.
Earth 2 has got to be the biggest scam I've seen. There's literally NO gameplay and just allows you to buy Google Map Tiles. Seriously.

Does it say anywhere that it is actually a game?
Monopoly has better gameplay than this lol
no but the people who buy the land think its agame
its straight up a pyramid scheme
hahah facts
Some people get a kick out of economies, especially gambler types
I get no kick from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all. So tell why should it be true. That I get a kick out of you
I could use some of that yayo right now
Im guessing they might be relying on the fact some land developer wants to buy their actual location and around it so some Joe doesnt make a giant dong next to it in this virtual world 😛
Why people fell for it when buying Boardwalk and built hotel on it is way more satisfying?
Monopoly is not a fun game.
And, if you have no other choice but to play it, you never play with anyone you ever want to speak to again.
I played monopoly with my sister. Still communicate with each other.
Pretty sure you didn't play it right then
Hey, Second Life was a thing
maybe still is (I have no idea)
YT recommendation strikes again

In this video we will take an in depth look at the fast inverse square root and see where the mysterious number 0x5f3759df comes from. This is inevitable for any game allowing some customisation.
