Looking for a triangle mesh simplification algorithm that doesnโt act on the whole mesh with the same weight. I.E. in areas of the mesh that are very flat, we collapse a lot of tris to reduce the amount, but in areas that are bumpy/have a lot of detail, itโs mostly left the same. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Everything I can find seems to act on the whole mesh with the same amount of simplification.
Closest thing I can think of myself is comparing a triangles normal to its surrounding triangles and simplifying if theyโre are close enough in slope.

@quasi loom I think thats gonna be some edge collapsing algorithm that supports edge threshold for auto-limiting, but I presume it's never gonna be perfect. You could collapse manually though, or step through some level of detail script until you are happy, then step back and manually clean it up. Save some time at least. If you wanted to write one, I'm interested but if it were me I'd start with what simplygon were doing (and now Epic as part of Unreal).

One candidate I'd put for best survival is Gregtech, a total conversion mod for Minecraft
It deffo runs you through ages of technology and it's pretty interesting when you get a flow for it
But gameplay might take a bunch of hours until you reach that flow and that can be off-putting

I do prefer the PvE more than the heavy survival aspects, I think theres definitely a disconnect between survival mechanics and survival genre
that whole stuck in a deserted place sandbox is a different feel to being trapped and having to fight and survival the entire time
thats one of my personal favs because the blend of both, its not too huge in scale you end up wading through crafting and tech trees. Combat is decent without being too simplified

I really like the direction Valve is going with VR though. Being able to interface your mind directly to a game or computer is something I've dreamed of witnessing since I was about 13.
I'm not entirely sure on how developed it is, but a youtuber named ThrillSeeker did a video just covering recent advancements in vr technology
According that video, Gabe Newell went as far to state that "-the real world will stop being the metric that we apply to the best possible visual fidelity" in regards to the tech eventually being able to send signals directly to the brain rather than our normal senses.

Gabe Newell has also stated that he feels commercializing anything because of how fast their research is developing. Being able to interface with the brain directly, you could, in a way, "cure" color blindness since you would no longer need to be using the retina to communicate visual senses. Cybernetic eyes are one step closer.

rendering is not very multi threaded, once you get poast 4-8 cores your not seeing a huge advantage in most games and even then most are not optimized that high. Same with the editor. more cores makes a difference in doing more stuff at once that can run at once such as baking lights or compiling shaders
so a complex scene in the engine would rely more on the raw speed of the cores and your GPU than how many

just get a cpu that you can afford and read some benchmarks, the 5800x vs 3900x are quite tight, unless you need to utilize more cores. The 5800x will have a better single core performance over the 3900x so if your doing a bit of gaming also, then it would be beneficial. My recommendation would be the 5800x
