Idk, if you accept that a 2D game made in UE is really a 3D game just rendered with sprites there's some interesting ways to approach things. Using a perspective camera with a little customization gives you an easy way to achieve parallax.
There's a lot of potential for something new.

Lots of the newer 2D games are more like 2.5D anyway and have some level of depth

Never had the taste for cocaine myself. It's nothing that a good coffee can't do for cheaper and healthier. Speed, however, is 6 hours of fast laning that coffee can't quite manage. I had no degree, no advanced maths qualifications and no experience when I worked on my first game. I was given UI work based on my flash history. That game shipped. I did not feel like I stole someone's job. Neither do I 10 years later.

@plucky pagoda So true. We have a friend with real QA experience who tests our alpha builds internally before we ship them, and he always catches the weirdest shit that we never could have predicted.
