to cast abilities to them
however I want to have LMB reserved for melee hits, since it's a melee game with abilities
but abilities similar to WORLD OF WARCRAFT abilities
where you target an objective
or you spawn an AOE
the fact of clicking on an enemy I can't figure out
mainly because the mouse is busy with main melee actions
so I'm starting to think that this type of camera is uncompatible with a targetting system
unless any game designer over here has a point or a workaround
I've been thinking on a button to change camera modes
but that would disrupt gameplay

Hi all, I was hoping I could pick the brains of anyone familiar with unreal engine/physics/game development and VR.....
I work as a gymnastics coach, In the sport we regularly have to throw and catch people to aid in the learning process... I am trying to figure out how this might be possible to recreat in a VR environment utilising Unreal engine, is this possible, it could start out as a simple loop rather then a fully fledged simulation..

VR dev , in my opinion, is an advanced topic
because you get into requirements for VR, graphics requirements, that one would have to learn besides also learning regular development
its all doable though, depends how hungry you are
to learn
and then if you want multiplayer itself
thats 1 more layer of difficulty
again, everything is learnable and doable, but with each step more time is required to learn and implement these things
with all that being said, theres a lot of resources out there
including free ones, you can check out ue4resources.com
which has some free vr templates
you can pick those apart
and see how they did it
on youtube, plenty of tutorials as well for VR movement... but you have to also know what you want, so that you know what you need to learn... ive seen people just dive into VR and pick it up, so not trying to intimidate you, but just want you to be realistic about this all
people talk a lot about mordentral's VR template as well, I don't use it, but a lot of shipped VR games have...

Yeah I'm kinda the same... that's why racing sims work imo, because you have seat, wheel and pedals, so it feels somewhat right in that sense even without the G forces
some of the shooters are pretty fun too, since it feels very natural to use guns with the motion controllers

It's truly one of those things that you couldn't really do without VR
Well it messes with your senses in the same way as motion does in VR in general
Ie. if the picture moves but you're not moving yourself, it can cause nausea
But you eventually get used to it

my biggest issue with VR was the weight of the gen1 headset and the screendoor effect from the screen resolution
also I'm a lazy bastard and dont like having to get up and move around to play a game
but eurotruck sim 2 was awesome in VR... I've got the wheel/pedal and shifter setup, so it was almost like really driving

the problem is that a blender bone is very different from an FBX bone
bones in blender are 2 points
they are like a line in 3d space
fbx bones are more like a single translation point
thats why the bones on an imported fbx are extra fucked

the problem is more that everything in blender is tooled to assume y forward
if you use an ik constraint in your pose
it wont work with X forward bones
maya does bones the line way
so orientation of the bone itself is irrelevant
but the ik solvers in blender are all hard coded to treat y forward as roll etc
also auto weights
they require y forward
so working with the mannequin in blender requires a whole toolset made by someone else or yourself

i rigged some stuff in houdini to test
and man, not even close

houdini has parametric autoweights
so you plop a node that does the autoweights
well not one node, its a bit more complex
you first voxelize the mesh, and then you send mesh, bones, and voxelized into the node
the node uses the voxelized representation to do the bone weights
and its pretty good
but then you add more nodes for the tweaks
if the mesh changed, you can reinport and the node chain recalculates, and your weights are still there

in blender autoweights cant grab floating geometry

I guess it should be called asset flip. While reusing assets is not bad thing in general, asset flip oriented projects have no other intent, except assembling assets into something formally playable. They may be good for research and training though, as you get something to work with, without a need to create your own stuff first. So it depends on context.
