Well distance based frequency works pretty well, pretty sure thats how UE does it these days. Thats what I was saying about a grouping system though, if you share frames the anim updates are per group not individual mesh because its a copy versus full translation update

Thats typically how open world crowd type systems work, Im not entirely sure on the details but I guess thats why occasionally you get acouple of NPCs perfectly in sync next to each other and it looks abit odd like a clone

Theres only so many frames in those walk cycles anyway so they'll sync up regardless
