yeah there is only really one reason to use it and it's kind of moot now. The reduced memory footprint over a static mesh. These days there isn't much reason to use it unless you are porting for console. Even then you could write a reductionist/quantized version to do the same.
Not that I hate it, but there are other options and sometimes better for purpose

My maxscript was mainly just so we had the data in a format we could use in future systems not meant to be a replacement. You can get data out of UE but it can be a tricky process to get similar results, the way I had it setup we could move to a better system at any time with minimal disruptions and technical debt

trouble is the artists get upset because they go ahead and use tools you ask them not to, they'll spend a week making terrain with landscape then get upset when you tell them its going to be replaced. Not sure why because we should all know game dev is iterative, even code gets stomped and remade

My main problem now in act 3 is you pounce, it spawns a wolf, but as you pounced into a pack then as soon as it spawns it's on barely any health. Then it's gone. I've not had 4 up at once all act. Barely get 2 most of the time

Whilst you are there, take a Bind Spectre gem and get the Vaal Guards that cost 50 spirit. They fire grenades so they are easy to spot. Best spectre in the game right now and if you can afford 150 spirit then 3 can carry you they do so much aoe dmg and they just got buffed 😄

Then decimate, and it'll create pretty decent polys.
Obviously, you'll have to 'repair' some things, but it still shaves days off of entirely manual work.

You download a GUI based on python, like ComfyUI, and put the checkpoint from Hugging or Chugging Labs, or Musky Basement, wherever the models are hosted, in the ComfyUI's checkpoints folder.
Then, you run the python-based program, enter your desired prompt and variables, and go nuts.
Whether or not the model will work (function correctly), is a different question. It depends on whether it is compatible and what not.
ComfyUI's latest versions come with the ability to download Huanyun and whatever Chinese 3D models there are, directly from inside the GUI.
You can get a lot of models from CivitAI, but also a healthy dose of pornography, so beware. 😄
