starfield is better than most people presume in my opinion. If you play the game as a campaign where you go from main quest to main quest, they are right. It's less than appealing overall for what you expect from that type of game. However if you go do the side quests it's brilliant. I did one quest that had 11 parts to it and at the end I got a new skill where I could use telekinesis on people and make them do things. The quest was super fun. There are several like that which aren't part of the main questline but you have to find them.
The game has flaws of course, but I got 100 hours out of it and had fun and that's a good game for me.

yeah it's just a mess of bolted on additions really. When I first used CE with Fallout I found too many issues, too many crashes. When I used it with Starfield, it was exactly the same with more stuff that could crash. That being said, there are some cool world building tools in there. It's not all bad but I wish they would just scrap it for a better version rather than tack on new stuff to old broken stuff.

I built a whole network of factories farming all the stuff I needed. But it got to be pointless because you can't really sell it. So I dipped into modding to see if I could setup some kind of Elite-style trading system. Then life got in the way.

Mods streamline some UI stuff and outpost management, not to mention make POIs more common.

With environmental hazards turned up, it's a bit shocking to disembark from your ship and be faced with dangerous hail raining down from the heavens.

years ago I wanted to create a neural AI bot that adapts to your skill but I had no idea really how to do it. The idea was sound tho. Neural network based AI seems like a great way to stop AI being underwhelming or overwhelming. As someone once said "bots need to be weaker than the player but strong enough to give a challenge".

I think the one annoying thing about MP arena style bots is if they are good enough they wont have patterns but alot of what we do in SP is make the enemies have patterns for predictability.

One of the largest complaints about MP games is randomness but its impossible to make these sorts of things zero sum. Its more to make players not feel bad when they die, TF2 did a good job of that. You die and you want to get out there as a team and do better, its only if you get completely stomped it feels bad

Like, I can't even see the plasma on the component, but it's a fully coated layer there.

alot of stylized games tend to choose that style to try to cut art costs
