You are assuming that many customers make such comparisons and study their prospective purchases carefully.
They don't.
I've met several customers that end up making multiple purchases, because their initial purchases were bad.
People are in general, not tech savvy.
A lot of the 'weird' products that we see, or even sub-varieties of good products, are made to take advantage of some specific event or time period. Later on, those just lie around and end up getting sold at a discount.
The pricing is not really about performance, but the clients being targeted. Plus other non-performance related factors.
