It's more about the material.
The lightest ones, around 80g, are made of PVC and that means, they cause a solid thok sound when hitting a ceramic tile.
An actual cricket ball is made of cork, string, and leather, weighing in around 180-200g.
That might make less noise, but I am sure it'd break the cement off my wall. 😄
Foam is around 40g per ball, and is nice for catch practice, but I don't like the sound it makes while bouncing. Seems a trifle loud; softer than PVC, but still loud.
There was this amazing cloth ball that I had, when I was a kid living in Pune city. It made nary a sound when I bowled with it over marble tiles.
I can't find that anywhere on the internet.
'Cloth ball' doesn't yield any results, other than oversized volleyballs for kids.
Then, you have shady sellers like this, hawking plastic balls as made of rubber.
