Because the computers they make the games with are pretty powerful.
For example, you develop a game with a 4090, but the customer has a 1060.
There is the issue of SM5 vs. SM6.
A simple example, a lot of people with older cards had issues with MW5: Clans. They were complaining of AI issues and performance issues. I, on the other hand, had none of those problems.
With Wuchang, the dev had to patch performance stutters and other settings, which they wouldn't have ever checked on their hardware, because they wouldn't have known.
So yeah, money, experience, expertise. Otherwise, just develop games for your range of hardware. π
Well, with Unreal at least, you have a toggle for SM5 and SM6.
I decided to develop my games only for SM6.
So, that's one option. You can follow whatever makes your dev life easy.
