Well, I have to choose between a toxic environment in a pretty desert-area near the coast and a nice, beautiful, swamp area near the coast with freezing fog.

Actually, in WH40k, the Great Rift is what happened when the Chaos Gods interfered with the Emperor's experiments with the warp.
There's a lot of story involved there, but essentially, the Chaos Gods used that experiment, corrupted it, and opened a massive rift - called The Great Rift - connecting their universe to the Imperium's.
Wheretofore the Imperium had been one VAST empire of millions of world, it was cleft in two, on either side of the Great Rift.
One side cannot communicate with the other and is cut off. The Imperium was vastly diminished as a result, and the Chaos Gods invaded, other races rose up against the noble humans, and the universe was plunged in eternal war.
To be fair, prior to this, there was just massively destructive war. Now, it's eternal. It adds spice to conflict.

yeah after seeing the procedural jungle demo with UE5 it just gave me some hope Epic might try to approach an Unreal game. Especially with the success of remakes like Doom and Doom Eternal. These days people sort of shun Unreal as being a small game no ones heard of but at the time it was huge, as big as HL or Quake.
The devs of those games have kept the franchises going though thats why they persist in the public consciousness more than Unreal
It really doesnt have anything to do with the Unreal universe or gameplay being objectively worse

Get a marksman, with precisely made rounds, and a fine tuned rifle, someone to blame it on, and be okay with some random people in the background to die
What I mean by precisely made rounds is putting consistent amounts of powder in the casing, with primers you know are live, and a good bullet to match the powder amount. That's what they use for any precision shooting for sports or competitions
Those pre made bullets you get for 10-15 bucks at the store can be very very inconsistent for fine shooting. But decent enough for self defense, hunting, schools, and gun ranges
