hey I've been doing exactly that recently 😄

let me post some screenshots (it's all blueprints though, no c++ in case you're wanting to do it in c++ I can't help there)

so in general what I did was I calculated some force vectors, combine them and then use add force from the character movement component

vector A represents the slope the char is on so you speed up downhill and slow down uphill
vector B represents the forward momentum and prevents the char from strafing left right
vector C is gravity direction since we're doing a bit of custom gravity direction stuff but you can ignore that probably

the more interesting part is calculating those vectors, so here's the slope vector:

first, I get the current floor the character is on from CMC and return the floor Normal

then I use two cross products to calculate the direction of the slope relative to world up (0,0,1)

my gameplay loop is too simple right now, I've only got 2 weapons, a sword and a gun, and not much other items, but dont know what to make or do. I hit this stage in just about every project. Plus the main idea of it, a dungeon crawler, I think has an oversaturated market, and a lot of the other ones have much better gameplay than what I've got or am likely capable of 😦

and the only group of ppl i could talk to about it are the ones in this channel, and thats not what this place is for. plus everybody has their own projects they'd rather think of ideas for rather than try and help me with mine

thats the issue, I have no ideas right now. Was looking at potentially adjusting the way my inventory system works for storing data about items that get random modifiers, but I havent figured out what kind of modifiers to add yet, so .... Otherwise was thinking about focusing on my dungeon generator specifically and doing some refactoring, possibly try out something to improve how the maps are generated. For the game itself I gots nothing.

I personally love dungeon crawlers (they're basically the only thing I play besides my main love dota 2) and would never mind talking about your game / reading discussion if that makes you feel better 😄

Dungeon crawlers probably ARE oversatured but even so, seeing as you have personal experience playing them, enough to be able to think of several offhand that are "better" .. you should be able to easily find things about them that actually still annoy you. Or even better, take note of design choices in the genre and/or your favorites that they all seem to share, like its a "given". Then consider if it could actually be done differently.
