By the way, I don't know if it was there last league, but I started using upscaling this league. It's working out quite well.
There IS the occasional total freeze, but the game simply unfreezes itself after two seconds. The GGG discord server says, "Try using a different renderer." ๐คฃ

I am at level 30 right now, using Reeve and two claws. I am blocking fairly well, at 40% blocking rate and melee feels good tbh. I haven't been one-shotted yet, although there was that one time where it ALMOST happened, in a ritual altar.

you have to like arpgs bigtime and put the time into the game I think. Most people who like arpgs want the more simple game style like Diablo 3 and 4. But PoE gives that in terms of mechanical gameplay, but the journey to the min/max build is the real magic. I like to do maths when I play games.

what PoE has that really keeps it going is an economic system of tiering. So you can start the game completely broke, when you find your first Chaos Orb, you go up a tier. When you find your first build enabling unique you can use it or sell it to go up a tier. When you find you first Divine Orb, you go up a tier. etc. So the trading game is a huge part. For those who play SSF and don't trade, it's all about getting those same tier upgrades without the easy route.

So if you wanted to go for a specific build you would need to sway the story to allow you. Not sure if people would like that in an ARPG though. It would become more of an mmorpg in that sense.

I think the attraction here is the looting and hacking/slashing/burning shit through. So, an arpg will be something else, like uu..hmm... Dragon Age or from top-down... maybe Divinity Original Sin or something like that.

It's definitely the looting and crafting and power creep and trade economy that keeps these games popular though. I mean, one minute you are fighting religious despotism, the next you are crawling through the anal tract of a beast to kill a maniac with wings and tentacles as a woman kills herself on a spike and you climb into the sphincter for the battle. THen it turns into political corruption, then spies, then finally to the metaverse where it goes a bit more "this a final boss and her henchmen" kinda thing.

I would, because the agency belongs to the player. You don't have to upgrade anything if you don't want to. You can just run a little hamlet, or go for a big city. You also have to fight the bosses that attack your city from time to time.
That's akin to Pathfinder.
It's more RPG than it was before, definitely.
You also get to make two story choices, if I recall. There's the Irasha-old guy choice, which dictates the fate of the town. And there's one more.... I forget which one.

Right now, my shipments are made up of crops, which are very high value, OR a combination of a few crops, a few ores, and a few smelted bars.
I am still playing with orichalum and crimson ore, though. The unrefined amber is just lying there, waiting for me to eventually upgrade the smithies to process them.

- If I press the up/down buttons I just move the inline rename to the next file.
