It USED to result in big performance drops with the initial tech, but the cost has dropped a lot and the performance is much better these days. You still lose 10% of your GPU's performance regardless.
BUT, it saves you something like $2,500 in buying a brand new system. 😄

What's the W stand for?
W means Wide, as in Wide-UPS. The other option UPS - should have been N-UPS for Narrow UPS. Apparently, N-UPS gives you an almost seamless transition to backup power, preventing your system from shutting down. With W-UPS, your computer will reboot if there's an interruption in the power supply, OR worse, crash your graphics card when it's at full load.
