The other one just looked like a standard mobile game to me.
I am beating up old men for martial points.
Remember to read your manuals, dear developers.
Otherwise, you cannot collect enough development points to complete your game.
It's a small world. Let's kill each other.
alright second stage chronos is... definitely not easy π
You MUST gather your Qi and channel it to defeat your enemy!
Use the legendary Time Will Shatter Against My Pinky technique.
i really hope they implement some kind of moon cycle
i'm sure they will though, it's such an obvious late game thing
I love how, in this game, you can basically spar - beat up - almost everybody and clear out their inventories.
good that you added that it's only in this game
It was over my town about an hour ago. First time it's been over here. Not gonna lie, it freaks me out.
They are very pretty.
But I can't help but think it's just the sun saying
"Hey there this is a reminder that I could wipe all of you off the face of the universe if I wanted to. I won't because I'm nice. But I could."
It's my first time seeing it
It looks pretty
It's like "look what I can do"
"I helped to create you, I can end you"
βοΈ
The skies are clear here, so I am hoping we see it tonight.
Actually a good song π
If you don't see it at first, spend like a few min in the dark to adjust your eyes and it should be much easier to see
It's a bit harder to see it where I live than in some other northern countries but after spending a few min in the dark I could see streaks of colors in the sky
Phones pick it up easily tho (especially in night mode or long exposure)
jesus I just noticed how much discord compression ruined the images...
Thanks. I have never seen aurora borealis myself, but everyone who has seen it gave me tips over the years. Primarily: lower your expectations. They are far, far more visible on cameras than to the naked eye.
Yeah... Discord heavily compresses images.
I don't know what algorithm they use, but it is pretty aggressive.
yeah, it's still very pretty to see with a naked eye too, this is my first time seeing it too
At first I didn't notice anything, and after spending a few min staring into the sky it started being a lot more noticeable
It's like a purple, red ish glow with streaks
Camera sensors are a lot more sensitive so it picks it up no problem
I will spend some time waiting outside regardless, just in case.
Even if I don't see the aurora, the sky is pretty clear tonight, so I will spend some time stargazing.
The night sky looks lovely if you just wait long enough.
it especially sucks with any photos of the night sky, no clue why
Any time I posted night sky shots it ruined them every single time
Lame.
Discord, why don't you appreciate astrophotography?
That looks incredible, but my understanding is the aurora in that video would be much less visible to the naked eye. More faint, not as vivid.
I will take photos if I see anything tonight.
Sounds pretty surreal.
I think it just depends on where you are. Finland is very far north, so they likely get the best show.
Sweden, too.
yeah what we got here is like a knockoff version of the real thing π
Would love to see them in the northern parts
Hopefully all we get is pretty colors and not another Carrington Event.
F living so south :/
We got only some weird animal stamping on the roof, waking everyone.
GUYS
80% ON STEAM NOW!
nows your chance of the games you guys wanna buy
There was a half a sec of thinking this msg has to be reported to the mods for scam.

I think so. There's a weekend deal, offer ending 23rd May.
@broken sigil I did a macro hike yesterday
How is that fly staying calm?
it likes having its picture taken I guess
Nowadays, itβs prly a fugazzi
some critters just don't stop moving at all lol
it's hard
and I think this guy wanted to spray scalding hot butt liquid on me
but I see the appeal of the hidden macro world
What camera are you using?
fuji xt-30 but I just bought this new 30mm macro lens for it
Yes, but you are making too much effort.
Deploy the drone swarms.
Sit at home with ten monitors and a few bowls of popcorn, snap pictures from the comfort of 10 keyboards.
True digital power!!!
β
The pics are beautiful. β€οΈ
Oh those are very nice
morning
hmm, interesting. It has classic design.
did you tell it that it legally cannot unless it has your consent?
He was in mother nature. The internet didn't work.
So, no translator.
π
X100v is probably their best, with an optical viewfinder too
Get that camera π
i did read the interview whit slavig magic yestoday / manor lord pretty interesing
and inspiring
Watch me mount a long boi macro lens on my phone
There is an optional official photography kit that has a 67mm mounting ring for filters and lenses π
nice
Photos incoming.
@broken sigil
I am in a suburban neighborhood with heavy light pollution, too!
Here is a time lapse.
Damn, it looks nice
Seems like it is more visible than what we got where I live
Best I've seen so far. Can't confirm if real.
think it's real since it looks like a long exposure shot

in the interview i mentioned earlier, is it a good idea to stick whit one version of unreal. And really learn it or, just follow the versions
like sticking to the 5.4 serie
Depends on the tutorial you are following. For basic tutorials, it does not matter much, even whether it is 4.x or 5.x.
welll maybe stick whit the last version of 5.4 and get a prototype done and really learn the features
Yea, it is okay.

Get ready to be captivated by the radiant charm of our red panda! πΎ In this heartwarming video, watch as this adorable creature steals the spotlight and wins over viewers with its undeniable cuteness.

Wildfire smoke from northeastern British Columbia is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.
my material has too many spaghettos
what does it do tho
makes spaghetti
Pshaw! What they meant to say is that a gradient of dark grey to hazy, silvery white is being painted across the sky by some invisible entity, causing magnificent, new sights to be beheld by onlookers below.
more yellowy
Of course, of course. Paint Shop DLC.
I did a lot in Wandering Sword, today. A little girl stole my coin pouch and tricked me into fetching a pouch filled with pebbles from the herbalist's shop. I chased her down, held a sword to her throat, and got her to return my money. That was gratifying.
I bullied several fat and old people (not one and the same, mostly) and cleaned out their inventories. There were students of many sects that I visited, whom I beat up and plundered willy nilly. There were some widows and maidens who had valuable artwork, musical instruments, and other trinkets in their inventories. I cleaned all of those out, too.
Of course, I saved a village from bandits too. They held a big celebration and gave me lots of loot. I beat them up and cleaned all their inventories out thereafter. It's been a profitable session of gaming, I'd daresay.
Title of Image: Anatomy of a Degenerate
Funny you say that after I took pictures with miku cosplayers last weekend
They thought I am a degenerete too
It would have been fun if it fried our electronics
Is Sony just embracing a villain arc..? Attempted to force PSN linking for Steam players of Helldivers 2, got thrashed for it, pulled back on it but continued to remove Helldivers 2 from being available on Steam in 177 countries regardless. Then they did the same exact move with Ghosts of Tsushima on Steam.
https://www.ign.com/articles/ghost-of-tsushima-on-steam-helldivers-2-psn
Unsure what is the issue, there was a problem with PSN not being available for some countries for HelloDrivers and still sold, so they went to clean up their other products too.
PSN is required for the multiplayer aspect of the game. Hence, it has to be removed from these countries.
wtf is that game anyway π€
Ah, wait, I confused it with another. I know that one. The wind/grass stuff.
PSN is not required.
It is. For the multiplayer.
For which one?
Tsushima. Even the other one?
Helldivers 2 does not require PSN. I wasn't aware Tsushima had multiplayer
It had to require, but devs turned blind eye. Sony too. Gamers whined. They withdrew the PSN. Only stopped it selling to non PSN countries.
makes sense
Helldivers 2 at no point required you to have a PSN account to play on PC
It had to require from the beginning. It caused issue with the servers. Devs removed the requirement. Sony didn't stopped them.
It actually did, but it was 'disabled temporarily' when the game launched. Sony made it compulsory and the game was delisted from several countries on Steam.
It was a big thing only about two-three days ago.
Then Sony caved.
amen
It was a great revolution.
There were digital pitchforks, mouldy pizza, fat gamers wandering around...
dwarves who emerged for the first time from mummy's basement.
So was it actually required for a player to link to a PSN account on launch or not? Because Sony saying "you need to have linking" and actually having linking are two completely different things.
I mean, just browse the #industry-chat and #programmer-hangout this was the topic for days.
gaming gods who looked outside the window for the first time ever to stare down Sony.
Basically, you couldn't play HD 2 at that point if you didn't have a PSN account.
The game wouldn't launch.
Which wasn't as much of a problem except that PSN wasn't available in many countries.
I am aware Sony wanted to do it from the beginning, but my understanding is that it wasn't implemented at launch.
No, it was disabled intentionally by the devs.
Okay so you weren't required on launch to link to PSN.
on launch = when the game launched?
or do you mean when you start the game?
When the game was released
Helldivers 2 at no point required you to have a PSN account to play on PC
So this is correct?
just did a helldive, got all the samples on the map (40 common, 40 rare, 6 super)
we failed to extract
No. They required it since last week or so.
But, they withdrew it.
So, now, no.
too many enemies
I know about that. I was confused by this message saying it was required at launch. the beginning
π
Ghost of Tsushima is different. PSN is required for multiplayer only.
The devs were very nice to clarify that BEFORE they brought it to the PC.
AFTER the big ruckus.
π€£
It had to be required from the beginning, let's say it like that. But it didn't. Chaos ensued.
Yeah, to be very precise, there was some nice yellow coloured box/text on the Steam Page that said PSN was needed, but in small font and in a roundabout way or some such.
We will summarise this properly.
im gonna be in the corner crying over 86 lost samples
Hate Sony.
At least they did that before release instead of deciding 3 months after release to say "fuck you" to 170+ countries
Correct.
Good on them, but they did that only because HD2's story blew up.
Of course, the best way to go forward is to hate Sony.
Devs are also not innocent. The success lifted their heads in the clouds.
As it should. You can't go selling a game in countries you plan to blacklist lol
Yep.
the dev team told the community to do the review bomb. as a result the lead community manager lost his job
Arrowhead was pretty open about being against it.
I'll give the dev team the benefit of the doubt.
It's entirely possible they forgot to take necessary steps to prevent the problem, simply because they were busy with devving and fixing the game.
It happens.
You signed a clause and then forgot about it, because it didn't matter.... until it did.
arrowhead told their own customers to review bomb their own product to show discontent
thats above and beyond
I think I read the dev congratulating the players, too.
they are making an ingame cosmetic that shows the review bombing
Not just review, but also refund.
Nah, nah... they disabled it, and borrowed their heads in the sand for the consequences. Like, I'm not thinking Sony is innocent at all, they manage the distribution at the end, lol.
Not Sony. I meant the devs.
Of course Sony is @#$!. It's an eastern company.
Willing to sacrifice their own profits and rep to do right by their community.
Those twats rate communication and freedom at the bottom of a long list of 'unnecessary' things.
AND people lost their jobs because of it
arrowhead reedemeed themselves 100%
Just you wait until they run to Siberia with your money.
And Sony is the publisher, I'm pretty certain they are the one's managing the marketing and publishing
π
they can, i already got way more than my 40$ worth
Which means they are the ones that went ahead and allowed it to be sold in countries they themselves planned to blacklist
they can run off to mars for all i care, i got way more than i bargained for when i put that 40$ in
It was probably a ploy to force whatever was preventing them from offering PSN in those countries, or to get favourable conditions for doing so.
Regardless, that's Sony.
By the way, the sub-machine guns released in HD 2 right?
sad. I thought you were going to tell us they added 2
2 for non super citizens
pay up the 20$
honestly, that super citizen upgrade is worth it
10$ for the warbond/super credits
10$ for the rest
Oh hell, @cursive crypt @lofty lark Ghost of Tsushima is suffering the same fate.
which includes 1 gun, 1 mini game, 3 armor and a title
π
They already delisted the game in non-PSN countries.
Yeah, you were right about that.
^
I didn't know the news from 10 hours ago.
They had clarified it was only for multiplayer yesterday
Well. Go conquer Sony territory, MS.
Game Pass FTW!
did you know you can get 1000 super credits if you already had the steeled veterans warbond when you upgraded to super citizen?
Well, at least they are refunding purchases.
It's available on Steam in India.
Now, I don't care about the other countries.
β
@broken sigil every now and then the loading screen just gets stuck and I have to alt+ F4 lol
we dive together or not at all
referring to Ghost of Tsushima.
I wish Microsoft would just purchase their IPs.
with H:FW?
Damn! I've already played Wandering Sword for well over six hours now. π
That how the convo started, lol
Sony had to remove the game from nonPSN countries.
Meh. They'll sink as a corp eventually.
To the greedy rubbish pile with them! β
Pretty. β€οΈ
They have designed every city and town to be unique. None of the layouts have been like any other so far.
What sort of game is it?
Traditional JRPG type, but set in wuxia universe.
You can field a party of nine members if you want, though, but that reduces the martial points earned by characters after every fight.
Ah.
It's non-linear, which I find surprising.
I've only done 2 of the main quests, but already finished more than 12 side quests.
The side quests usually involve murdering stuff, BUT they have interesting side characters and stories to pursue too.
AND the dev provided auto-battle with 2x speed, if you want, which I really appreciate. π
Of course, auto-battle SUCKS for any decent opponent.
What game is this? Reminds me of Octopath Traveler.
Wandering Sword
Looks very pretty
I had wishlisted the demo, but purchased the game only yesterday.
Is it on Steam?
Yes. π
Noice.
It's pretty good. After you get past the slightly grindy early-game, it really opens up.
Will add to wishlist myself if I haven't already. lol
It's released and on a bit of a sale at the moment. So, you can grab it immediately.
You get to bully a lot of people.
Old people, little kids, chubby people, egotistical tyrants, etc. etc. Bully them all!
Nothing is as bad as FF13's 2.5 discs of grindy content. Trust me. lol
While that is true, you are very weak in this game early-game.
That can be frustrating, especially when you're learning the mechanics and stuff.
Ah. So being careful is critical then?
Basically. Once you know what's what and how to upgrade skills, and properly bully people, it opens up quickly.
You have interesting side-quests, like this one.
That bum kneeling on the ground left Shaolin after secretly learning on of their martial arts.
He started his own school and defrauded people by teaching them evil kung-fu.
You get to smack him down, BUT he is TOUGH, so you have to time the quest. π
Yeah
Try disabling the internet connection for the game.
Someone on the internet said that it gets stuck if the connection becomes intermittent for any reason.
Eh alt + F4 is quicker
Well, there's that too. π
Excellent
A pain in my butt to keep in focus from hand with the damn leaf moving
Honestly no clue lol
But you need a 1:1 macro, imagine the possibilities π
True
You could get one of those waist-mounted pods for the camera.
That way, all you have to do is stay still and the camera remains steady too.
Less strain on your hands.
This is a belt mount.
You get chest pieces, too.
Alternatively, just yell at the insect and the leaf to stay still.
This is called 'Anger to Stillness' technique.
i have this cheap wide angle adapter for a 24mm, and it has reversable threading so if you 180 it, you can do macro instead of fisheye
please no yellin, they just bugs
like us
Figured out a trick to get closer macro with the phone
It has 3.2x telephoto which has 10cm focusing distance and 5.0x with 30cm
But at that distance 3.2x actually ends up being more zoomed in because it's closer, so I can use the 3.2x with a slight digital zoom on top (which is close to lossless because it's just a tiny bit zoomed in digitally)
They can't use sacred techniques of the inner qi.
We can.
So, yell away! π
this is not the way
It is the only way!
perhaps
the DoF in comboniation with the 2d Pixel nostalgia does have it's intriguing alure i must admit
Also, they have NPCs that actually have NOTHING to say to you and mind their own business.
You can't enter EVERY house and loot them either. π
The CIA has flagged you for photographing UFOs.
Please report to Area 167.
In order to sell the sense of speed, in early films they had to filmn only on cloudy days, otherwise you'd just be watchin planes with 0 sense of motion
im available for birthdays and barmitswas
Looks like Cesna?
Should get something because at the moment I feel like I'm playing Sniper ghost warrior with holding my breath to get the shot lol
Think so too
Does the phone have OIS though?
Yeah on all cameras
OIS?..
Optical image stabilization
Whichs is?
understood
Damn autocorrect
But 1cm of movement that up close feels like a full meter π
Same for my camera, and I have to shoot at f16 at least so most of the insect is visible
But it has auto focus bracketing
To stack the images later
A flash+diffuser would make it almost effortless I imagine
Oh it's stacking
I know that's a common trick for astrophotography
The images you posted look really good
I havent done it yet because you need like perfect conditions and a tripod, I just shoot handheld for now
Just discovered in Notepad, hitting F5 gives you a timestamp...
All that Sniper Elite training coming in handy π
If you stamp time, does it stop flowing?
no but I'm sure a butterfly dies somewhere
Does that cause a cicada to multiply spontaneously?
@broken sigil you can also ride ||clawstriders|| btw
You might have already known π
Damn had about 0 clue lol
Theyβre slower than the BB tho
I haven't gotten to that point yet but I think you can mount one of the ||flying ones || later on
||you can, and its AWESOME||

yeah
when I got it I wanted to scream and how great it was but I didnt want to spoiler it
I still have ways to go
Still haven't gotten the ||furthest subroutine AI thing ||
Actually can't wait to be able to do that π
its a game changer, probably why you get it so late in the game
Yeah
Yeah I think I saw something like that in the trailer
The game devs don't want us to have nice things.
They should let us fly and super punch, and blow up nukes right from the get-go!
im gonna be a game trailer making dev once in da future
or is that a digital producer
π€
probably a Steam Page Maker, or a Good Video Cutter
Or a Bad Video Cutter, depending on your perspective.
solar flare lookoing like vfx
idk what that is but
SO COOOL
π
earth protection against solar flaers
that sounds like earth does it on purpose
hi
unblock me π
no no, those lines, why does it look like there's blueprint spaghetti around it
yessss isn't it cool?
it kinda looks like a spider if you pause at the right moment
I feel I may have gone too far
Sometimes I go task manager and close unreal if the compiling shaders is too long lol
And then what, start a new project? π
GUYS REMEMBER TO WISH YOUR MOM A HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
They bless us all with the gift of life
also 2 player unit = 98
2% discount
i want 500 unit at 30 fps
have you used the profiler? whats your bottleneck
no i meant
what is taxing the cpu
oh
are you using full collision for the sweeps?
or just query only
why is it sweeping on tick though
I have LOD system for far away units, but need a way to stop the possibility of a lot of units crowded near to the player
? The tick rate of the overlap components
ah
I have tick lod system so very far unit ticks as slow as per 0.5s
this is strange, i got my game to the point recently where i can show 1000 blocks on screen at 60 fps and they are all doing overlap queries
nope
also the movement of my units is complex and they rotate as well
blocks are ship's parts of the hull
could be
1 million reasons it could be different
yeah
Your fps says 24//fucked
I think you might be fucked
I didn't know the joker manufactured micro chips
oh yeah, i'm real thankful for that gift....
Well, I've had a bit of a busy morning and early afternoon.
I had to supervise the electrician installing two beautiful ceiling lights AND a smart fan.
Now, I've to see how to control the smart fan with its remote, instead of connecting it to my phone with wi-fi AND bluetooth every time.
It has SO MANY settings, including one that intrigues me. There's clockwise and counter-clockwise spinning for the blades. The latter is supposed to be for winter, to heat up the room. I need to see how that works.
The fan? Or the kitchen lights?
I'm sure he/she didnt want you supervising the whole time :p
Actually, I helped out quite a bit. π
yes, yes you did. good job. pats head
Why thank you.
π
Actually, I could put in a smart Phillips multi-coloured LED, but no.
I am using two Golden Sunlight bulbs in the kitchen. The purpose was to disperse the sharp shadows created by a single wall light.
Now, the shadows are very soft and almost non-existent. π The lighting is uniform and awesome.
The ceiling fan does have a light at the bottom. π I am not sure if it is multi-coloured yet.
or a disco light!
Ah. Counter-clockwise rotation is to cool the room.
Clockwise rotation is to warm the room up.
german state news cover all the important question,
like "why are celebrations traditionally celebrated?"
hm hm... yes.
is this one of the silly ai things or do i suddenly just see all the super silly questions and answers due to subjective bias or somin?
like steam suggesting to play fallout 4 next, because i played fallout 4 last...
or cnbc telling you to get rich by buying a new yacht instead of repairing your old one...
or google telling you to build a new house with a walk in shoe room to store things more efficently...
or youtube suggesting drake music...
we have to celebrate public holidays from 200 years ago because not much to celebrate happened in the last decades....
Oh please! There are so many things to celebrate over the last 200 years. Let's count the ways:
- Invention of instant noodles.
- Invention of airplanes.
- Invention of the Boeing style of airplane manufacturing, circa 2024.
- Invention of computer games.
- Creation of couch-potato-ing while playing computer games.
- Invention of TV.
- Increase in stupidity due to watching TV all the time.
- Invention of the internet.
- See point 7 and replace TV with internet.
So many things.
Also, invention of pizza, hot dogs, packaged cakes, pastries, dehydrated food, instant milk.
I forgot to mention money, but then again that's not something everyone celebrates.
Ooo, Cosmoteer was just updated.
I haven't played it in a while.
National Internet day I can totally get behind.
anyone else try the custom gravity tutorial that got posted a while back? for ue5.4? Been playing with it, its pretty fun
I think with better controls than my current setup, and a map designed for it, it could be really cool
WOO., k thats awesome. I just put the gravity thing on a box collision actor, so I can walk up a wall without having to hit controls
oh how I wish my game could fit this mechanic into it...
and if the capsule rotated... doesnt seem to.
please dont touch me with instant whatever, i ate that bs in uni and i still regret it, totally fucked my body and mind, thats not really food, more like emergency survival shit that will haunt you. just check what it consists of, 30% salt, 30% sugar, 40% tears of little children.
this, this i can get behind
cooking is like the best multiplayer there is, can be single player too but coop is where its at
well, after fuckery... thats good mp too
just need that and we can cook together... but ONLINE!!!!
what are the doing in elden ring lol
ponki.
that's a terrifying pfp
is that goulash?
either way you owe me one for making me hungry
imagine this... you make a game and you want to run a playtest to fix bugs which appear and to eventually balance gameplay mechanics
now those reviewers talk about how shitty your game is
it sticks in the mind of people, and even if you fix those issues, people wont buy the game
i don't see anything wrong here. reviews should review the release version
not the publishers/studio fault if people preorder/buy stuff on the first day without waiting for neutral reviews...
Imagine this, the game is shitty, but nobody is allowed to say so. Now devs and gamers are delusional.
they can on release
Then they are not allowed to comment, not give evaluation - good or bad.
after signing that contract?
They say, they are not allowed to make any kind of detrimental comments.
But they can make comments which make the game look good.
yea, that's what bugs me most on this
So, you are allowed to make only good comments or no comments at all.
That's why I said that up.
It skews the reality.
*subjective reality, let's be real here
I once again have one... ONE WHOLE DOLLAR in my Steam Wallet. πΈ
i thought this was supposed to be a secret
The pages in a book? Why?
If I was selling gold sheets, that'd be another matter. π
i guess it's about phrasing then
if the game is laggy, say "it takes its time to craft the best view possible" or something, doublespeak??!
oi
It is a thin line to walk.
idk i recall you said it was a top secret ...?
unless i am hallucinating
You're probably thinking of someone else.
I'm shameless in my secrets and secret in my shamelessness-es.
#lounge message
i probably misinterpreted this and now i feel dumb π’
No, no. The problem is you tried to interpret it.
Using one's intelligence is a bad idea.
We should all be using AI.
i don't have a lot to spend in that department, so i am safe π«
Even if you have little, you should use AI.
Let's embrace the tide.
And flow ever onwards to the abyss.
what's your favourite ai
Right now, Co-Pilot and Gemini.
never heard of either
Co-Pilot because it's accessible with my Windows account.
Gemini is nice, but I need to login to Google first.
what do they do
what do you use them for
You ask questions and they supply answers.
A wide range of topics really, from work to shopping, to just fun.
i see i see, i will keep that in mind <3
there's way too many ais to keep track of these days tho..
Are you using Windows 10/11?
i think it was win 10 last i checked
Then check your taskbar. Next to the clock and date display, there'll be a rainbow-coloured symbol with PRE printed in black against a yellow background.
If you click on that symbol, Co-Pilot opens.
oooo
i will try that if i ever use pc again
thx
You don't use a computer anymore?
well, only to slice up some audio at most
I have to vote tomorrow.
I just finished reading the parties' manifestos.
Not many bright spots to sway my vote, honestly.
Besides, it'll be hot and possibly humid tomorrow morning. Hopefully, it won't rain. It drizzled for a few minutes today and the humidity-powered heat shot up.
π
I feel you. Only twice in my life have I ever had a chance to vote for someone instead of merely against everyone else. It sucks
^
do your best!
The problem here is that one party that seems competent is entirely focused on welfare programmes. Their contribution to development and infrastructure expenditure is nearly NIL in the last ten years.
The other party has a progressive-looking agenda, but has no choice but to fight the incumbent with welfare programmes. The national government that's allied with party #2 can't exercise much influence in this state, owing to the language difference.
So, voting for the pro-development party is still voting for welfare programmes AND the state is already in significant debt, around 43% of/over (not sure) GDP.
Now, if one of these parties said they'd develop the video game industry, provide free internet, AND e-sports programmes, that'd clinch my vote real fast.
Is there a way to build lighting in many levels all in queue? Like I can build whole project lightings while being outside from home
that would be too good
From the reviews, it seems to add twists and innovations to the metrovania genre.
People like it for that reason, it seems.
the piratesoftware guy on twitch
hi
some nature i was on
you went outside?? why?
outside is fun
I disagree π¦
Mood.
I'm starting with UE5 now because I want to get into UE5's C++ aspects, moving from Unity.
I've had past positive experience with 4.27 and am using a mostly stock version of the source from origin/release (built from the one that was available on 8th May 2024). Still getting used to learning how to find and corroborate documentation between the various sources.
I'll take it
a genuine curiousity I have: has anyone seen a cursed Unreal Engine theme before?
Yeah it's Trackmania
Played the old one in like 2009, new one in 2020 and started playing it again a few days ago after watching Wirtual play Deep Dip 2 lol
Gave me an itch to play it again π
noiiiice
seen plenty of VS ones courtesy of some users here
I wonder if Wirtual is just the global casual viewing place for non-trackmaania people
Can I interest you in a cursed theme?
well It's cursed to most but fully usable and I use it daily
im going to regret this, but sure
I present KomiUE5 (i did this as an exercise to learn to navigate the source files, just... I don't have the files to revert it and I got used to it because of that)
Oh god.
He randomly popped up in my recommended a little over a year ago and been watching him since
so uh. Yeah, the worst thing you can do is let a newcomer to unreal who has access to an SVG maker is let them know Starship exists.
I've always wondered why it's called Starship.
same
but i have a feeling it's because it's so recognizably unrelated that you'll never forget it
but uh yeah i made two svgs out of two monotone chibi komi sprites
my eyes are bleeding
to achieve that you just change
UELogo.svg - This is the main one thatβll appear for most windows.
unreal-small.svg - Thisβll be the one that appears on tabs like on the Editor Prefabs.
now to be fair I can restore 90% of it by changing back to UE5 dark
yeah I'm sadly familiar with starship π₯²
just don't have the backup of unreal-small.svg or the original grid colors
It could be worse
I could've made it unusably pink
That is unusably pink
You can grab the svg off github
unusably pink means you can't recognize anything. like literally any state of any button.
At least it's not as bad as the user that made a PS2 VS 2022 theme, that one hurt to look at
what....
thanks, I'll probably revert it at some point but it's funny having a pink UE5 while the rest of my uni uses the stock Dark theme
I'd say eyeball singingly pink is unusable :P
do you... live in dark mode 24/7?
Is the standard UE dark mode?
no i mean for all software
I'm used to dark and light mode so pink is just another option among many
Nope, I use a fair amount of light mode, it's just pink for some reason is harsher on the eyes for me
ahhhhh okay
this was a cursed theme a user kept posting about a while back
i have it where Red's too harsh on my eyes
yknow what that is.... a theme
i guess the benefit of mine is... it's basically UE5 but someone threw pink over it?
like there was active consideration of contrasts?
if I were to do pink texts, I'd honestly go with pink-hued whites
Yeah, to your credit, it's actually a theme.
I'd honestly make any UE5 theme for anyone if I could.
There's a pink mode and a pink mode.
You went with "pink" not "good pink" π
well half of it is purple
I'd honestly want to see like... what you could get away with in terms of usable themes?
Honestly none of it is pink. It's magenta. It looks like an old 4-color display.
CYMK!
well yeah I used all of the gamit
π
I haven't even turned on HDR mode on my 43'' yet
I'm not sure I could cope with a 43".
One of the guys at Epic I do meetings with got one and you could constantly see his heard turning to see different parts of the screen. It was hilarious!
I have a 24"s and a 22" I think?
That last one is a crappy cheap 60hz screen for discord π
if only you could screenshot monitor output π
phone photos don't count :P
RICHMOND, VAβThough confirming he is mostly satisfied with his newly acquired Mac desktop, local man Peter Selwyn said Wednesday he is disappointed that it is unable to do something that in fact every modern computer, including his own, is already capable of doing. βI wish there were some way it could just take aβ¦
it's a graphics pen display sdfsdfdsfds
I usually use the second 4K for discord but when I want to rest my head I use the smalelr one
yeah, I got an LG 4K Nanocell
nice
i uh... had to get a decently powerful PC to run it smoothly
I really need to replace one of my monitors. When it goes into sleep mode, it makes the device connect/disconnect sound play constantly.
you'd think so but i found it not to be a problem when playing war thunder
My productivity is amazing.
im hoping to actually get efficient and productive with C++ in UE
Do you know c++ already?
yeah, past experience with the language and used it for SFML projects before too
it's just the Unity to Unreal transition that's a bit of a difficulty tweak, as a cloaker would say
I would GLADLY go face first
Laura has a good Unity to Unreal guide.
my entire dissertation is around similar stuff and covers IMGUI/RMGUI
https://tackytortoise.github.io/2022/06/24/common-slacker-issues.html
https://landelare.github.io/2023/01/07/cpp-speedrun.html
https://landelare.github.io/2022/07/16/unity-starter-pack.html
As you might know if you got to this page, I am quite an active member on the Unreal Slackers discord. Over time I noticed a lot of the same issues kept popping up, so I decided to write something down to save myself some typing time (hopefully). Table of...
Gain monthsβ worth of Unreal C++ experience in a single article.
A small collection of things that I wish I was told when I jumped ship.
Msot of them probably isn't useful, but just to be sure.
needed to pick up a second engine and was close to going godot, like very very close to it then I started going UE5 like I had originally planned because I just could find more on it and had the resources/books IRL for it
The books are going to be out of date before you purchase them.
nah they're pretty useful. The U2U one especially helps with adjusting mindset. Adjusting Syntax is natural
way ahead of you on that
I'm using a C++ UE 4.27 book and intentionally porting forward the stuff, making notes on the errors and issues I find along the way
most of the online docs are out of date too ...or incomplete, or misleading...
What's your dissertation on?
Can't have the problem of it being outdated if the goal is to learn and account for an outdated guide to begin with
making a software that uses visual scripting to make plugins which can then be ported to multiple engines
i'm 40, so I'm used to being out of date π
So engine agnostic BP?
Kinda, except it's focused on plugins rather than game logic
game logic would be... nightmareous to handle.
BP doesn't have to be game related!
It'd certainly contain the building blocks but that would be an international effort
yeah it doesn't it's more
scripting for game logic and scripting for plugins can be slightly different in how you have to handle objects
I do think an engine-agnostic blueprints/nodes system would work well but I have little doubt that it would require quite a dedicated collective to make a proof-of-concept become a usable reality
VM?
Virtual machine. Loosely acurate. You're writing a way for a common language to run on top of other software.
Like java attempts to do.
ah yeah, i guess i am in that realm
Part of it's going to eventually involve C++ and I'm going to separate the scripting into two models
a Visualised Model for all nodes to be interacted with and a Data Model for exporting the nodes as script files
And then an integration layer to make that script work with the host engine? Or are you making your exported script be engine-specific?
Considering a generic compiler that uses a sort-of make file format to determine how each node is to be interpreted for a given engine's language(s). IE Python and C++ for UE5
Considered OpenGL/DearImgui as the backend but it'll be too much work to keep bugfixing that so I'm going to do something that focuses on the proof of concept rather than fixing basic C++ code for the visuals. Given the extensive experience I have with C# and the MSIL/CIL, I'm considering using Unity to make the visuals but handle all logic using platform invocation and C++. In the future I'd hope to sidestep Unity entirely and use a more efficient means to draw the Visualised Model. The Data Model needs to be planned to run using language interoperability anyway.
I really want to see a world where plugin development is accessible for students as well, I spent 3 years independently researching how to extend Unity Editor day in and out.
Yeah it is, I'd like to consider using C# for UE but I know python may be a more common format
especially Slate/Python hybridized (hence hopping face-first into your realm)
I'm wondering how feasible it would be to just make an IL transpiler.
Take BP IL and transpile it to another language's IL π€
first step would be to transpile it into Microsoft CIL then
mostly because that already will give you a broader spectrum
I'd admit that I did chose a dissertation topic that was far outside the norms of my course and, in most contexts, shouldn't even be attempted by an undergrad student
but that's what's exciting about it
Python and slate don't really interact afaik. Python uses the blueprint exportables which doesn't cover slate. Though I've never tried...
I'm curious about how to actually write SLATE but at first when I saw it (and DPC) i was extremely confused
I couldn't tell if it was IMGUI or RMGUI based when trying to do my contextual review
Slate is pretty simple once you get your head around the constant chain methods and the operator[] overloads.
SNew(SBox)
.WidthOverride(500.f)
[
SNew(STextBlock)
.Text(INVTEXT("Hello world!"))
];```
If you know what that does you've pretty much got slate solved.
I genuinely wonder where the [] comes from. I'm guessing it's like setting C# properties?
I can mostly get it quickly
Something like that.
it's just the brackets
those square brackets are confusing as hell because even my C++ guide doesn't cover them well (if at all)
I'm used to square brackets mostly indicating an array index
That's what it overrides, basically.
so they went "hey we can turn index operators into a foreign concept" and no one thought to stop them
It's a complete bastardisation of the operator, but yeah.
They should make a visual designer system for slate. Something in editor. You could even hook bp up to it.
||/s||
It's actually really cool once you get into it.
I mean yeah, using operators unintended is absolutely funny as hell, even in C#
I was actually making one. I got all the c++ code done (template magic HO!) but I never got around to finishing the UI.
i did it a LOT to make really easy-to-use C# classes for automating things like input sequences
I could imagine that being popular, especially with the advent of UI Builder in Unity
what stops you, out of curiousity
It was very fun making the code part. Despite being a professional Slate developer, I didn't want to π
The only thing I miss with slate when compared to other GUI frameworks, is no preview in IDE,
having to compile to see is a bit of a pain, and a little preview pane wouldn't go amiss, nor does it seem too impossible
I actually hate making UI.
i love making UI
I like making systems.
UI is my most hated thing.
The exception is WPF/Avalonia/other brethren. That's actually kinda fun for me
professional Slate developer
I actually hate making UI.

Whent those systems need a UI I /wrist
Though I am a tools dev by trade and at heart
ikr
I like making tools, I get to interact with a lot of things
I love tools, I love UI and I love everything about the trade.
It's like me when I was an online engineer and hated working with online systems
I don't know why UI clicks with me well but I love it at my core, something about personalising a tool for developers and adding little touches such as custom icons makes my heart flutter
I actually like using Slate, but I don't like designing the actual UI. Making sure everything is perfectly aligned and pretty and all that stuff.
I wish I was better with slate :/
Use your wizard magic to just imbue me with your knowledge
Engine, non engine, GUI's, CLI's, DevOps stuff, it's all ace to me.
It's never a boring day, there's always something new.
I thought I'd want to do gameplay, but just havign a job that lets me go across wildly different languages, tools and frameworks is awesome.
i had to start learning Luau via UI programming, then Unity UI... then Unity IMGUI.. then Unity UI elements. I'm perfectly used to it and it's come instinctively
yeah i hear someone really no lifes that channel and is basically the only one that answers questions :P
that's why I love this industry a hell of a lot and why I want to be in Tech Art or Engine Prog. Never a dull day, especially when pinkified UE5 is a click away
Glad you're liking it π
If that's what you like, consider tools programming, it's a super fun one.
i have and I've done it for 3 years independently of my uni work!
If you become a UE/Slate wizard, you'll definitely get work in UI.
I've used it a decent bit for editor stuff for work but I still felt like I was 'in the fog' with it π
I do love tools programming!
For my team project I made an extremely comprehensive Unity plugin that added in an auto-loading node-based scripting system with custom node browser and extensive tools for customising a node system
did it in a week for most of it, did tweaks and additions over 2 months to make it even better
gonna open source it after uni cause it was fun and used IMGUI mixed with UIElements
engine programmer has also always interested me. My lack of knowledge around how engines actually work is preventing that one.
I have no idea how you can go from playign a game in editor, to packaging a project. It's all magic to me.
Might have to solve that and make a barebones 2d engine
I'd be careful that your university doesn't say they own everything you do.
A lot of them do that.
Yeah they don't. The only requirement is that I open-source under MIT if I open-source anything
I love making engine tools and UI for them
I hate game UI
I just hate Lyra.
true
Lyra? the uh... example project?
I'm extremely fortunate that I'm from a university that doesn't do that and encourages the things you own are yours. Even to the point where tutor supplied code is yours to own and expand as you wish. No license, monetization or content restrictions
There is only 1 exception, and it's completely reasonable, you can't share assignment source code publicly for cheating reasons.
Designed so that every system is completely isolated and editable within the engine with assets.
So it's a large tangled mess of crap you don't need for 90% of games.
Lyra is compartmentalized to the point of uselessness for indie's
I can see it's value if you have, say, 150+ people
It's valuable if you have a lot of non-coders.
it's sounds like a mess even more with a large team
Turns into spaghetti real quick
I'm allowed to share source-code for the things I make related to my assignments, so long as it isn't a major part of (or wholly) the assignment. That's how I got to open-source an input wrapper I made to give students an easier way to begin implementing controller support into Unity projects.
Snaps is heroically giving us her perspective on it for our little project.
Snaps?
i love how your status is just "repeat after me, slate is not evil"
π
that was how i had to go about UIElements
Same here, realistically. The rule there is to stop people just pulling a major grade point of the assignment
The rule's text is stricter than it's enforcement
yeah, I wouldn't directly give anyone something important about the assignment.
I only care about giving tools that are extremely beneficial and useful, which is why none of my tool projects ever touch the assignment requirements
When I was at uni, the house I shared had its own little ftp server that I put my assignments on. Completely unsecured of course.
jesus...
Apparently some people started downloading it and I got into trouble π
did you have to explain what happened
I was like "It's not my fault other people cheat, go tell them off" and left.
I did change things up, though.
I just found the whole situation very funny.
Just putting a user/pass on it sufficed.
ah good
i'd have probably tried encrypting + that
just to really force people to not and make it unreasonably annoying to get open
Honestly I didn't (and still don't) care about my weekly university assignments that much π
fair, i'm glad I don't have weeklies
If it were a dissertation, sure, I'd have been more careful.
I'd go insane
I love doing modules and tasks, I hate weeklies
it's like "I just want to get on with the course and learning the crucial stuff, not a weekly sidequest that wastes my money"
They were actually generally pretty useful tbh.
The only things we had to actually do was our end of module assignments
anything else was optional
I had a lot of fun writing a completely inefficient tree/object-based way to sort a list of strings.
ours weren't really set up that way. They were mostly skills audits that I never bothered with because I was busy learning new and unique parts of C# (Attributes, Operator Overloading, Messing with CIL, compiling from bytecode, P/Invoke services, etc.) Just bringing in something new that I thought was out there and useful each week was enough for me specifically
They do have a purpose of reinforcing those learned, skills, though.
Guess it depends on how you learn!
Yeah it was helpful for others
I'm autistic and that takes it's form of I have to keep learning new and fun stuff, then put it into practice as I go along naturally.
so repeating something unless it's something I'm doing of my own volition and in an enjoyable way weakens that learning process heavily
I see!
Does that ever leave things you aren't particularly interested in by the wayside, though?
being in a situation where I had to learn UE5 when I didn't want to, especially when I was feeling hypervigilant about my surroundings, made me really dislike the engine... but it's not UE5's fault.
sometimes, but I always go back and revisit when I'm curious as I love going extremely technical, which is how I dedicated time to learning and exploring x86_64 assembly and implementing it into C++ then C#.
Nice!
it's more I hate leaving things by the wayside but if it's an obstacle to what I'm doing, I'll put it by the wayside and make a note for later
when I felt forced to learn UE5, i hated it most
UE5 is quite a lot to digest if you aren't passionate (about it).
when I started learning a few days ago and removed the serious atmosphere by making it pink as hell, it made the engine approachable
Lol
i learnt how to: ```
- Compile from Source
- Navigate the Source Code and reference it
- Cross-examine online sources and the source code
- Build projects safely using VS2022 and the source code of Unreal-Engine/release
- Modify source files and compile them
I'm not against the pink. It should just have style!
yeah it's lacking style to most but I kind of like how it is
it's not focused on outright upending everything, just making an otherwise dark atmosphere lighter
Pink works really well as a constrast against dark colours. It'd look good used sparingly in a dark theme.
yeah!
/endrant
just making a normal light-theme would've been boring
komi from KCC wasn't intended to even be the icon/mascot of the theme
Komi is great, though.
I was looking for different icons then saw Komi panicking and it reminded me of how I used to picture UE5 whenever it would crash
Lol
so Komi like this just... kinda fit the idea of a UE5 that was just too shy to not crash sometimes
Does make me wonder if you feel a connection with her and her issues.
kinda, yeah
I've never seen the anime itself or any manga
I just know of her as a shy, always stressed individual who shares more with her dad than her mom in terms of interactivity
Chronically shy.
It's hard being social because I used to be excessively bullied in high school
Kids can be so cruel!
and I was too shy to really do much in uni over the last 3 years until someone started interacting with me
all I want to do is make people smile with game engines
devs, players and onlookers alike
I really want to be able to do that with Slate too
Slate doesn't make people smile.
to turn something that scared me at first into a tool to cheer people up would make me really cry
I've learnt everything I have because I want to make people smile
I'd do the same for slate if I could even make you smile with it
That's sounds very Japanese. They always go on about wanting to protect everyone's smiles.
of course, being new to UE5, that's going to be hard
and yet I'm british sdfsdfsdfsdfsd
I didn't even know that was a japanese thing
Slate really has nothing to do UE, tbh. If you're doing any kind of UE course, nobody will mention Slate.
Yeah, it's an internal system
kinda
I want to learn Slate the most but I feel like I have to learn the entire engine to start learning slate
Sort of?
I don't want to shortcut learning the engine but if I could learn how to do both at once that'd be more fun to me
I think there's a big dichotomy. Like there's 2 sides to UE.
There's the side where you make games and the side where you make tools. And there's very little interaction.
Other than basic c++ setup, learning how to make a game isn't going to help you learn slate. And vice versa.
i didn't know us brits want to make people smile?!
i thought we were all miserable all the time because of the weather :P
(though I am very much enjoying this heatwave :P)
We try to avoid making people smile. Shows off our bad teeth. /trope
ugh don't even get me started on dental work. covid screwed me over with that one
i love our castles ngl
This was a rather lame castle. π¦
Still, it had a cake shop that sold carrot cake, so I'm happy.
i just find some of our history mindboggling, like you can just walk into some random town and find a building that's been standing since the 1100s :P
and that such a site isn't some tourist attraction with government sponsorship, it's just like some random pub that's also a listed building :P
Heh yeah.
Though I don't like building listing.
Not that I want to see every building turned into a block of flats, I think it's very prohibitive.
If you own the building, you should be able to do wahtever you like to it.
i dunno I love and hate it.
On one hand preserving history is important, and it's important to keep the things from times of old, regardless of an owner's interest.
On the other hand it's really dumb when one wall of your house is listed and you're denied planning permission for the property because said wall is Grade 2 listed, just because it was built 100 years ago and bears actually no historical or cultural significance
back and ehhh
I love it and hate it too
I feel like if a building is of active historical significance (i.e. Churches that are 500+ years old), then it should be listed
Is preserving every building that remotely old that important, exactly?
It depends. There are churches from certain eras
Sure, keep a couple of examples around maybe. Out of the way.
If it's unique? Go for it.
if the builidng is not of historical significance and it is a risk to it's inhabitants, then yes it shouldn't be listed.
Most of these are not unique.
do they really need to be?
I dunno, I'd say so. I think the fact that you can wander into any small town and see perfectly preserved bits of history is such a unique magical thing about this country.
But stuff like having part of a house listed, or a section of someone's staircase is dumb, you're not preserving anything that people can look on, you're just making maintance and repairs and extensions a pain for the owner
Over half the buildings in my town are from the 1700/1800's
I have to say, I'm not a fan of history for history's sake. Knowing about the past is important, but keeping old traditions, culture and buildings around just because seems a waste of time to me.
It's all dependent on where you live too
in my area, we grow up around the history and appreciate it a lot
I live on the outskirts of London. It's not particularly historical here π
yeah i'd say you have more important concerns given you live in london
Teef care
like affording rent π
It's not actually taht bad here.
that's good, I've seen some of the prices around London and it terrifies me
I know, just media oversensationalisation
Yeah, some of London is ridiculous.
i got carrot cake for my birthday on saturday
Living in SE London, everything is just cheaper π
i love carrot cake (i was also scrolling up to find the uh- slate thing you mentioned)
Nottingham better, they have Robin hood
Happy belated birthday! How old?
remember Maid Marrion and her Merry Men when growing up?
I remember it from the disney film.
Disney film was good
I'm 22! I got to get some stuff on War Thunder and spend some time with my friend in america playing Minecraft on our shared realm
AV-8A Harrier Pack (it's going offsale), Golovachev's Yak-9M and the M10 Achilles 65th Rg. pack
Neat!
I'm getting close to 10k hours in game but I love collecting and playing the premium vehicles the most
I dont live in the u.k so I never seen or watched the show
rip
Also 22. Damn. Seems everyone else here is in their 40s! (myself included)
How are you 22 but in your 40s
Not me.
I may be bad at math but that ain't trigonometrying correctly
GOODNESS GRACIOUS GREAT BALLS OF FIAH
Good ol' Jerry Lee.
hell yeah
Goodness gracious == good god ol mighty β
My parents loved that era of stuff so I grew up on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVcMsjyKlaM - still a banger (this is a cover ofc of the original)
Watch the never before seen footage of the 'Great Balls of Fire' performance from Top Gun: Maverick. In the film, Rooster, portrayed by Miles Teller, sits at a piano singing a bit of βGreat Balls of Fireβ while Maverick (Tom Cruise) reminisces of the time he and Goose played the same song in the original film.
Top Gun: Maverick is now playing...
I was raised on 50s-80s music for most my childhood
Korean War to Post Falklands War media
Shame. 80s is where it started to get really good! π
Is wearing an Iron Maiden tee atm
Korean war sounds like a great band, wonder if I ever heard their songs
Yeah, I had 90s and noughties music too
I think one of my favs had to be Guns & Roses - Paradise City as a kid though
it just always captured my imagination of vivid blue skies
So how would I get into UE5 Slate?
are there any specifics I need to learn about UE projects first (i.e. c++ or blueprints)
I had some guns n roses blaring on the car stereo earlier.
hell yeah
Sweet Child o' Mine and something else.
The only thing you need to know before you start learning slate is how to get slate onto the screen.
It could be as simple as making a uwidget or uuserwidget wrapper and adding it to umg.
Or you could create your own tab or something.
Registering a nomad tab spawner is pretty simple.
FGlobalTabManager::Get()->RegisteNomadTab(...) or some such.
Simple way is to register it and unregister it in your c++ module's startup/shutdown functions.
#slate !
okie! I'll move over there
Biscuits and gravy is still amazing π©
I think my favourite slate thing is details customization
Have you gone insane?
partially
