nobody with any sense would try to make an mmo with a small team. its way beyond scope, budget and abilities of most indie devs. the few that do try are quickly reminded of why this is a bad idea. and an mmo takes a lot of upkeep and has very little earning potential in the current market saturated by mmos. the mmo hype train died 15 years ago

@obsidian turret Goro, IF you want to be super detailed about this, you can also read about Marketing Psychology, Branding Techniques, Customer Perceptions, and other marketing material. Basically, people tend to pick up information and connect them using the cues in the environment.
You can pick up a lot of hints from how coffee shops are set up, how they attract the eye of customers, how they convey product information to people in a crowd, etc. It'd help you pick up tips about how to communicate indirectly.
We can also get information about a story from the people at the scene, their posture, their clothes, the way they are acting, etc. etc.

Like hristew mentioned, you can also communicate a lot through the environment. For example, if your environment looks like 1800s London, you don't need to tell the player that it's 1800s London explicitly. They can get that from their surroundings and maybe a calendar hung somewhere, for example.
Another example is a police officer asking another police officer, "Hey, did you read that guy his miranda rights?" This alone tells players that it is the USA police. So, you don't have to introduce the US police or anything like that. Players can pick it up naturally.

Make these two changes. Headline should look like a headline.
Remove 'in a distressing tragedy'. Let the player decide if it's distressing or a sadistic marvel.
Convinced she was.... - Change this to, "The voices in his mind convinced him that his wife was possessed.
Next line - She alerted the authorities."
This case... take 'within the justice system' to the next line.
Basically, the smaller the space the entirety of the text occupies, the faster the reader reads it and isn't inclined to just skip the thing.
