civ 6 doesnt really have you managing a vast warfront or anything. its more akin to stellaris where you your interactions with the AI is mostly to carry out the 4 Xs(explore, expand, exploit, exterminate). It has scope but not that much depth beyond those 4 basic objectives. By contrast a grand strategy doesnt have you fiddle with the individual units and stuff. instead you give out broad orders and the AI does its best to obey it. micro-ing is an important part of 4X, not so much with grand strategy

Depends on your faction. As resistance, your goal is to.... Resist the invasion. To do that you need a space economy. To get to space you need research, money, mission control and boost income. So focus on that for now
If you were playing servants for example, your early game goal is to hinder the world's tech progress. So as servants youd plug in nonsense research to slow down everyone
A lot of the country stats are explained by the tool tips, read those
They tell you how to optimise your countries
Also, north Korea is a terrible investment. Its function in the game is to act as a panic button

If you have ever played Rise to Ruins, you'll like this one too. It's basically RtR in 3D. The problem is not that it's hardcore. It's that you need to be very patient and NOT build like you would in other city builders. The key mechanic that's poorly explained is that keeping some of your villagers unemployed is important, because they are press-ganged as labourers to do menial tasks. And immigrants are a precious resource on normal difficulty, too.
It's pretty chill on normal. There's a pacifist mode. I enjoy playing it occasionally.
The one downside that Splattercat alluded to and is correct IMO, is the lack of events - content. Of course, you're basically dealing with the occasional bandit raid and typhoid, cholera, chicken pox, and what not. But, they could have added a few decision-dependent events, like in Frostpunk.

between the stars (good for a subtle and mild scifi mindfuck horror), lacuna (good character writing), wasteland 3 (elaborate fallout style quests, pretty absurd but itll get you invested), stardew valley (interpersonal dynamics and character relationships), hellblade senua's sacrifice (great internal vs external character motivation for engaging with the game world), first tree (okay this one is very smol but it does a lot of things quite nicely, this isnt a strong suggestion though)

thats not true in this case. the enemy have high hp because you are meant to lose "daughters". its how you progress through the rogue like part of the game

i think what makes a tolerable or even fun(bg3) rng system stand out from a bad one(xcom) is that
- it makes sense for the rolls to happen the way it happened
- your entire save game is not at risk if you fail a roll
dont hinge story critical decisions behind rngs without atleast giving the player ability to strongly modify it in their favor if they prepped
