I think it works so well is because it doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares constantly being thrown at your face at every corner
It's purely its storytelling and atmosphere that does it, it feels like something is constantly trying to get you even where there isn't anything
It's pretty much the only horror game that remained creepy and scary for me all the way to the end
