I think I know the one
i am surprised how far they did to copy the building mechanci too
it can make you coffee or tea now?
The only AI a monitor arm needs is to automatically activate 144hz and above because most people don't realise that most monitors are defaulted to 60hz
yeah had to manually set the refresh rate for every single one of my monitors when I got them
Always defaults to 60
Mine defaulted to the max Hz!
I have once again appeared to come and bring this meme. See you all in 20 years again π
lol
I made a BP only C++ project. My source control has no commits.
Also good to see you back, Laura! I've not been in here since forever so I'm probably very late at this point π
she's smoking hot.... but now has cancer from the 10,000 packs of Lucky Strikes.
hehehe i do not even know who is her
but oh yeah
my type of woman nowadays;
another crush
gosh i love this one
She was called Gene Tierney
if it wasn't for makeup, we would have been extinct a millenia ago.
π no way
My wife looks worse with makeup on in my opinion, but she likes to put it on anyway. She has natural beauty, but she's also subject to the narcissism of modern beauty standards.

"UNREAL ENGINE 5 GAMES" and then a screen that says "made with unity"
okay π
there isn't enough pre-apocalyptic games being made. I want to see the sunshine, the clean cities and the well governed citizens living a happy life.
THEN I can blow the shit out of them all.
I'll pre-order the expansion
I set my games in the desert because foliage is hard
I set my games post-apocolyptic because good NPCs are hard
I set my games in space because landscapes are annoying
Bout to make a "radical new exploratory experience where you play as a blind character" so I don't have to worry about gpu optimization
wait until you get into metasounds.
I don't make games cause making games is hard
Every day I see a new part of the ecosystem and my brain cries a little
one step at a time and it adds up to the long journey
just close your eyes then
[rant] my colleague likes to add more logic to default Blueprints rather than creating a child and extending them and I know this always causes more issues down the line and argghhh[/rant]
yeah but then theres only one file to resolve any issues in. que cera
I was happy to finally understand enough C++ to read what is going on. Then animation and rigging just slapped me in the face
QA cera
"I will start my real project" has been moved to December, 2025
You got to duck when you're animating and rigging, then you won't get slapped
I don't know how to make a duck animation yet
Just make DLCs without the basegame. Then nobody can run it to see if it works or not anyway
free money
The Star Citizen business plan
My udemy log grows faster than I can speedrun them
2x speed just means I add more things to it faster
stop adding new ones then?

I'm gonna start selling courses about self-esteem and how to gain it at my new tutorial site, Udeman
I'm gonna make a tutorial on how to buy tutorials
I don't need to be an expert at everything, just like a enough to understand A from B, for most things
be a generalist and generally do nothing
jack of all trades, master of none
yoo shhh dont rat me out
Remember when game devs had to specialise. Now you have to know how to program, do UI, animate, environmental art, sound design and do all the dev ops with a cloud provider, for $25 an hour?
and backflips
You joke, but I was looking at mocap stuff and wondering if I could still do a backflip well enough to mocap it
I had a recruiter pitch me a no title job, with no description, for Β£150. I asked "Is that an hourly rate?" and he said no its for the day. I replied "Sorry that's below my starting wage" and the cheeky bugger asked what my hourly rate was.
More than you Mr.Outsourcer.
My specialization is "I have more time than most people"
my specialisation is "I've broken more things in the engine than most people so I know how to fix things more than most people"
that and prototyping. I do like a bit of the old proto
Is there a spec for "I've broken more things than I know how to fix"
that's like insulting, especially for freelancing
yeah especially with my time served with unreal.
even for a starter that's not all that much
by the time you deduct taxes and shit
you're broke
45k in the UK isn't bad for starting. If you had say 1-2 years under your belt
oh yeah I see your point
I've worked for less but only on things I wanted to work on for experience or if I was getting royalties (which have yet to ever turn up)
I worked on two games for free that made over 100k over a few years but I never saw a penny. Not blaming the guy for not giving me a tip at least, but it did feel a bit scammy
this is why you need contracts
well not in that case. I did it because I was transitioning from UE3 to UE4 and wanted the experience
paying my dues so to speak
I did some pretty cool stuff too. Making HOTAS work before it actually did in engine (pre-raw input). Got support for TrackIR in the engine. Not to mention learning a whole load of C++ which I didn't know before, alongside the general flow of making stuff in UE4
integrated it via SDL but about a year later they added Raw Input which allowed for more devices
I can't even remember what I did now. It was back in 2014/15 and I was pretty stoned at the time
Im sure I just copy/pasted a load of stuff
that still doesn't narrow anything down
making TrackIR support was a doozy though. I had a 15 years old native C library to work with. I had to build it as a DLL and export all the functions out to Unreal types. I should have released it but the way the original source worked meant you had to hand code in a serial number from TrackIR when you registered your game for support so I couldn't release it without giving it as a library where you had to compile the DLL yourself. Seemed antithetical to the Unreal Marketplace boundaries at the time. Could probably release it now as they release any old shit.
anyhow. I must sleep for code awaits me. Have fun.
fun... as i we were some jolly toddlers and not hard working profashionals
does horse seaman have a job?
yea he is a seaman
doesn't mean he gets paid to do it
Just get on the streets
thats why I'm not working on my game, nobody is paying me
errr π
i wonder what is the feeling of working X years on a freeware video-game and at the end be ranted
take a read at this phrase i found,
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. βTHORNTON WILDER
and let me add ambiguity here: the alive word has a prefix A, which is absence
thanks for reading my TED talk
i wish a i had 4 life-times, so i could spend one reading books
1, podcasts
and 2 game-developing
some ppl die really young.. so you might have
my life-span is guaranteed to be +100 years
i am not accepting less
other-wise i will fake it
Gen z will probably live to 130
really cool, piece of dust
Laura started the petroleum revolution
after that, the world is not the same any-more
large parts of the world a lot of ppl are still starving... should be a lot more easy to fix than a lot of the other things we do
DDR5 is also pretty cool tho
at least some ppl have and food and ddr5
world poverty is deeply rooted on very powerful people?
no
i think it is
thats a dumb theory
yeah maybe
that is also history
like Portugal having golden churches while Brazil is such a mess
well bayB ddr5 is not that cool. i have ddr4 its battle tested
5 sounds better than 4 tho
ahh yea
well my ram is just fine.. and i also have food π
pretty solid setup here
yea i like my ram too much to eat
Portugal is basically a 3rd world country
both Portugal and Brazil are a mess
Portugal is just closer to countries that are not a Mess so they make money on that
its a vacation house country for places where it rains a lot
portugal use to be the shit in the olden days
now if you're not a tourist it's just shit I feel like
yea we fucked em up real good π
trans-blue
yup
Im also still a crab with udders, but i cant milk myself cuz i have claws
broken from the start and patches just make a mess out of it
as long as you're past the piano burning phase
did you know 300 mil years ago when a tree fell over it wouldnt rot?
it took millions of years for a bactetia to show up and start working on the back log
how so
trees were there B4 the bacteria too eat em were
are you saying we have bacteria over population
cause I blame your mom
she's spreading diseases left and right
not the only thing she's spreading
also piano burning genes
ill ask her what she was doin 300million years ago
probably the oldest profession
piano burning
now every1 is talking about global warming and shit like that
but what we are in fact doing is burning all that coal that was put in the ground by stupid trees and release the CO2 back in the atmosphere
we restore the atmosphere to pre history levels
we are healing the earth
well you have ddr5... i think ur safe for a while
me with my ddr4 wil die sooner
we are healing earth to just after the big bang
yea, nature been messing up this planet for too many years
it used to be a hot lava rock with toxic fumes
perfect
Just move next planet over if that's your preference
why the fuck does youtube music have almost no podcasts
was considering stopping spotify and getting youtube premium, but seems like ass
I've got the Editor Successful Build sound on loop 24/7 and that gives me enough dopamine
nice
so you can remain in the hot reload delusion all day
awwww yisss runs build that's atcually 3 days old
years*
are you sure Portugal is at the ballpark of Brazil?
no
i mean, i really do not know
but i said thatlater on
i am very apolitical, believe or not
but as far i understand my country... shit is pretty screwed
Brazil?
well at least its big
biboca garagem favela!
whatever thats worth π
food...
and we have one of, if not the biggest aquifer in the world
education here is pretty rough, tho
i dont know what aquifer is
water stored underground
maybe worth a lot as the time pass by
i mean, i think geo-politics do not consider an aquifer a big thing for a country economy
yea we have water fall out of the sky here a lot
its not great, but at least we dont live in a desert
did you guys hear that parts of US are and will be getting 35+ C wet bulb tempreatures? desert or not, plenty of water or not, won't matter since you can't survive without heavy AC
indoor or outdoor, sun or shade
any place in the US u can dig a hole in the ground sit in it and not die
Florida?
super efficient and cheap
water war is more of an afrikan thing
for now
oh
For now, podcasts are only available to YouTube Music users in the US, but YouTube says it plans on bringing the feature to other countries in the future.
yeah but dinosaurs lasted millions of years
and where we will be at in 500,000 years?
basically any place
i mean, by citing an giant aquifer, it means that we will possibly build shelters here, no?
you have to drink the water 1st
what's the difference between aquifier and distillation?
does aquifier keep useful minerals and only gets rid of the salt?
who knows
is it a natural or human made thing?
as far as i know, water purification from the ocean is actually done by pumping it with high pressure at filters
aquifers are natural, Ben
you should start a company and have a gamecontroller submarine to dive in that aquifer
it translates directly to "groundwater" and aquifer
you should get a strike for stupid submarine jokes -_-
where it is located there is a potential to agriculture
nah this seem like a legit cool exploration thing
we are responsible for 25% of food production in the world
and that is data not considering soybeans sold to livestock somewhere
nah you think its food... but we make body lotion out of that palm shit
lol
and nutella
just rub it on our face
nutella? yea that works, too
we produce soybeans not palm oil
yea we feed that soy shit too our cows and eat steak
and nuts
i eat soy, i'm livestock apparently π
hehe
yup, we buy the food from starving countries and feed it to our cows and chickens π
I hope that's chocolate and not poop.
people here probably think that corn and soybeans are not food
i mean, worth it of eating frequently
Last night downloaded both ue4 and 5 now I'm feeling that i did nothing more than wasting my time
i hope its poop
yes Godot is like, 180 mb
I'm literally going to blow
Soy sauce is where it's at.
I need someone's help
well i eat corn and popcorn from time to time
i eat a lot of corn actually
soy is in everything
but our culture is basically rice and beans and some meat
if you belong to the upper class you substitute beans for meat only
and eat way more vegetables
soy
π€
weird i couldnt edit that
Does 5 not support blueprints?
and oh, some extra extra sugary stuff
https://www.theonion.com/man-wishes-computer-could-do-thing-it-already-can-do-1819574776 @pallid oasis
RICHMOND, VAβThough confirming he is mostly satisfied with his newly acquired Mac desktop, local man Peter Selwyn said Wednesday he is disappointed that it is unable to do something that in fact every modern computer, including his own, is already capable of doing. βI wish there were some way it could just take aβ¦
Actually i was creating hunger system and i wasn't able to understand some things in ue5 blueprints
everything here has probably 7x times more sugar than it should have
What is it
It's pretty much exactly the same as ue4.
it's about a feature called screenshot
The only real difference is enhanced input as your default input mechanic.
Slackers who work in the industry (all development aspects), what were the development related books that helped you the most in your work?
Hey you're back!
I learnt everything I know from #cpp.
That's why I'm so fucked up.
I was going to try this sample
the bible... you say let there be light.. and there is light and all that
Let there be code! And there was code!
never read it myself but it gets mentioned a lot for me to not have to read it
And it doth not compile because it came from chatGPT
Thanks!
how to google instead of annoying others great read
To be fair if you googled that, all you'd get is paid references.
callstack... not good
how much memory does your computer have?
16gb
So callstack is the reason for the cook error?
Thanks!
Dang
i cant see everything
you are packaging for android on purpose?
Yeah
remove stuff till it compiles
I just wanna try it on Android
What kind of stuff
the broken stuff
some shader may be incompatible with android π€·
Where can i find broken stuff
is the project even whitelisted for android?
Can say that
I'm completely new to ue so i don't much stuff about it π
have you ever read this: https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/setting-up-unreal-engine-projects-for-android-development/ ?
package often and test
well then maybe dont start with cross compile... π
if package no go... delete ur latest stuff
The broken stuff appears to be textures. So he's going to make a text adventure? π
notice there are related stuff at some side-bar like https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/packaging-android-projects-in-unreal-engine/
the text adventure is to get it cooked
he is stuck on the first riddle
have you ever packaged anything for android?
Never before
I just set up everything as i saw in yt videos
First i had different error then different then now this error
i have to make rice
is the project you try to package a default template or black project?
At least the rice cooker won't generate errors.
Default template from store
Marketplace
you still didnt tell us if it's supposed to run on android or not
Man I'm not sure if this is going to work i just thought i could run it on Android since i setup everything according to yt videos
good luck
give the marketplace link to the project please
Search
Medieval Game Environment
mayB package an android default epic template 1st
Oh noπ₯
is this a good task for a beginner, most likely not
Checked out the book in the most upvoted answer and it does not seem relevant...
start with something easy to get used to UE
and specially to android and what shader stuff/textureformats it supports
since there seems to be the major problem currently
Is there's any kind of map that would work on Android?
if you browse, you can filter by supported platforms...
Alright
this is old tho
but looks really good, only use it with ue4, because updating it to 5.x is a bit of work
I packaged a sidescroller project for android long time ago
also android compatible and you can use it with 5.1
those props are ass π
but the composition makes it work out
What about ue5.2
you could scrap it all in blender and use it as parts
what should i scrap from that pack? triangles?
its more of the same
textures
wait i think i might have it, since i'm a hoarder
I don't have older version
btw. it's 1st tuesday of month
doesnt matter
Imma try it with 4.27
free stuff released 30mins ago π
nah 5.2 is good
most of the documentation wil be the same
5.2
you can change version in the top left... i have no idea if thats any use
but its there
i just checked... it gives diffrent text and pictures... i rate 10/10
i prolly packaged my androind project in 4.19.8 or some obscure version
nobody wants to use ur crappy soul city man
give it a rest
as beginner you don't gain much from 5.2 and 5.1 is pretty solid
you only gain 0.1
0.1 steps closer to a bugfree release and 5.2 steps back
well ill just go and contemplate my life π
don't
Thanks found a good book from it!
which one though
Saved π
I really think this discomfort with Rust's borrow checker is just something that fades away after a while. For me, Rust's compiler is the most helpful compiler out there. I feel like it's more that I have a buddy who looks over my shoulder while I write code rather than something that I constantly bang my head against π
I think it's mainly breaking c-like habits tbh
strange to react to something so old though
are you just doing ctrl f for Rust lol
indeed
or someone from the foundation checking that their copyright is not being violated lol
Game Engine Architecture and Real Time Rendering
really?
and?
I guess it's intended for beginners
like me
belly: full
hmmm, I read "software architecture - the hard parts" and had the same conclusion about that lol
I guess architecture books are just garbage
everyone agreed it was not worth the read lol
with a knife maybe
i always wondered, do you have to freeze it to get actual pieces or wtf did people eat back when they came up with such ideas?
</diet>
I thought it makes a great door stop
Im reading Quantum Supremacy atm, definitely not for tech savvy readers lol
Theres a nice history of computing at the start though, if anyones looking for a primer
oh i meant "piece of poop", why pieces, who the fuck poops pieces, apart from rabbits,
was just a typical afternoon question to keep the conversation flowing liquidly.
Yeah its the one where Bourne and Bond team up
theres also one with michael jordan, bond and bourne teaming up, air bnb i think
Ah. Asian science guy!
Most def is, its not written how he talks thankfully lol
that narrows it down
He's like the most famous Asian science celebrity.
If you say "Asian science guy" to anyone, they'll think of him.
neil de grasse?
Is he Asian now?
Brian Cox?
I really like Brian Cox, he has a way of making complex topics seem so simple
Plus he's got that accent.
Agreeded
Easy listening.
Lol the accent gets everyone weak at the knees
be careful with all that learning, you might get ideas
If you get a chance see him live, was totally brilliant
on onlyfans?
Onlycox
Naa the accent is slightly annoying to my ears. But he does down things down well. This talk on 8 dimentional physics was really cool.
it the universal human hand gesture
I would give a guy a foot massage
what if i cosplay as him? would you massage me too?
ya, lets just carefully retreat and leave the lounge to those guys
Damn, why do they have such tiny chairs and tables there? Hmmm.... π
to recap another day for humanity, lets celebrate the freedom not to be stuck in mud

Shorter furniture makes the rooms look bigger
Thats why you need a towel to cover her up
now, imagine being a teenager and having a summer-time break π
yeah, this server is all about nerds

@fleet tangle did you watch jahy-sama
couldnt find it in your mal
i am on ep 10 and its deffo your type of anime
yep
!
i went through your profile and tried to search by name but it queried the existing animes on its own database rather than your profile
Have you seen the erm
Other one that starts with J.
About the girl who's part snake and a real dick.
jaschin-chan
That's the one!
or something like that
Fucking glorious.
i watched first 3 eps
The last episode is amazing. Just amazing.
Would you rather:
Pass 10X more gas per fart
or
Have sticky stinky feet for a few minutes instead of farts (no gas)
both
correct answer
yes!
so,
this is the type of abuse we are heading to; https://www.engadget.com/googles-updated-privacy-policy-states-it-can-use-public-data-to-train-its-ai-models-095541684.html
if i was not a nerd since kids days, i would love to abandon the tech ship and just live out of simple things like agriculture or something else
maybe own a floriculture
or cook food for people
models have already been trained for the last like 10 years on public data scraped from the internet
idk why everyone loses their mind
yeah but now we are heading towards the plateau of making money out of it
data scraping is googles whole business model
yeah I'm so confused
maybe it is just me exaggerating
and media exaggerating
but i really do not like to think this is the foundation we are setting
and people coming here "ai will replace everyone of us"
i mean, i do not care much about stuff nowadays, specially regarding artistic things made by AI
but what is the scene in 50 years or 200?
as a kid i also didn't appreciate most art
now i do, which is why i got my free UE assets today 1min after release π
I really don't see a problem, everything you post publicly online any other person can see, why wouldn't that same publicly accessibly data be allowed to be used for training
yeah sure, but i really doubt Google will offer a free product
now how do you feel getting exchanged by some AI that has your data on it just because you need to post on Internet, otherwise you do not make money?
The Pile is a very popular curated dataset for language modeling that's commonly used and it's like 1.2TB of scraped public data
I mean are you really surprised that the most popular search engine launches a product and uses the data they're providing access to as training material?
AI isn't replacing anything
The reality is that we are gonna be seeing more and more AI powered tools which will only increase productivity for those that use it
It's not a replacement, it's an assistance tool
It's like being suprised someone cooked something with ingredients they bought from the store :P
You data is already used to make money, except it's not given out for free like the LLMs are.
Better than it's available for free than stored in google's and microsoft's private servers
For them to abuse.
yeah sure, get your ingredients for free at the next super-market
(not forgetting apple!)
I'm trying to get my music friend to start using AI so he can actually make good music
lol
I'd be surprised if he is successful.
He isn't successful, but I'd like to use his stuff over other people's stuff because he's a lifelong friend
I'm trying to get my AI friend to use people so he can be a better AI. - Google
I've been actually using the AI assistant in Rider a fair bit for stuff and I actually find it useful
I did a whole bunch of testing and it's like 10x better than ChatGPT 3 or 4
It is for sure a custom fine tuned version of either of those models
Ted Kaczynski was absolutely correct.
Does it make coffees?
well, despite the shady definition of what is public and what is not; if they make a paid product like GPT is doing, i just hope government eat their arms and legs
Tbf that would be a super useful thing. An AI assistant that learns your routine, so that it can flick the coffee pot on for you, or get the oven preheating for a meal

your what?
wow super hard scheduling some variables on a software
Hooks into google assistant and their littany of accessories.
do we need a burning GPU analyzing our day for that
How good is the context on it? Like can you be like "is my class architecture logical?" And it will look at how you have your classes set up
Idk. Heard the word somewhere, never used one myself
Does it insult you as much as Deja does?
I think the only thing better than a useful AI code companion is a sarcastic useful AI code companion
The goal is more like behavioral pattern recognition than a hard coded procedure
I wish π
Because that's the part that I'm having the most trouble with, being new, and also the hardest part for AI to really help with
I can invite you to a testing server when I get my bot back up
you can just Shift + Alt + F18 for pre-heating your stove connected to your network
cool technology tho but it just feel a layer above for people who have access
It actually can, I've given it entire 500-1000 lines files and it can process them
It might be the new 16k token GPT3.5
we barely can afford computers to everyone and now some developed country people will gain access to worldwide data running on some GPU that some will never have 30% of their power
seriously, if the generative AI on music was good as a musician, would be so unfair with artists
there is not even a discussion
Fun fact, fp8 on a single 4090 has as much compute power as a supercomputer from 2008
I could see it being in them smart homes. But it would ahve to have sensors everywhere. Like sure you could say "at 8 flick the coffee on" because we can already do that. But to have something that knows "such and such has entered the bathroom, where they will be roughly 20 minutes, so I'll flick the coffee on in 15" sorta thing. Entirely lazy for the majority of people, and definitely rich people tech for the most part, but behavioural pattern recognition and repsonse could be leaps and bounds for accessibility.
and i reason starting from the point they are training their data on those artists
do you have any sense on who is the one who can get these stuff?
there are some very good music ai's
Professionals and hobby professionals are the target buyers for a 4090
Those are not for gaming imo
4090 is so overkill for gaming
yeah but AI runs on way more powerful things than that
the most you realistically need today. and by realistically i mean 1440p 100fps is like a 3080.
that's a big misconception, you can and I have ran and trained language models on a 4090
You don't need 150B parameter model, a 7B model can compete with GPT3
The way I see it, a musician using AI will blow away both non-AI musicians and AI-only music
its like how an artist that knows how to use ai art to their advantage blows both out the water
still, there is a freaking difference between a human and a machine on consuming and producing data
yeah I mean with full pathtracing, maxed out settings at 1440p I'm getting 60 ish fps in cyberpunk
It's extremely overkill for gaming lol
and calling everything on internet public and prone to get into the weights is just being simplistic
and not respecting people
honestly I think anything over 1080p ultra is a bit overkill. 1440p is nice, sure, but it's really not that much of a difference
Is Cyberpunk path tracing different from UE5 path tracing?
It's a combo between rasterization and pathtracing to be able to run in realtime
It's not TRUE pathtracing
While UE implements proper pathtracing
like offline renderers
So closer to having like all movable lights with RT shadows and reflections?
I would be very surprised if they win
basically the lighting and reflections are pathtraced
geometry is still normally rasterized
Ahh
what is a Thread user
π
teeth brushing time
byeeeeeeeee
(i will not return for some time bunch of AI mother-flippers)
What I have noticed is that people who are not familiar with how language models work, what they actually are... are a lot more scared and dmissive of AI
Those knowing the inner workings of it, or at least the theory of how it works are a lot more accepting of it
Because if you aren't familiar with it, it looks like this big scary data munching black box
I don't care how it works. I ask it questions and it gives me good enough answers faster than if I tried googling it
Fair π
And that's plenty good enough for me
It isn't helping that media is intentionally blowing it way out of proportions
To me, it's been an absolute game changer
The most amusing media stories are these doomsday, terminator style stories
Meantime AI doesn't even have persistence, it's completely stateless
Like sure, the internet has basically everything that every human has learned since humanity started, but it's so hard to actually find info presented in a way I can understand it
||well until you hook it up to my persistant memory system for LLMs that I made, Deja says hi
||
Everyone I've met that says it's gonna take all of our jobs and kill us, believes its some kind of sentience, and vehemently denies it being a prediction model
there was one in here a while back
But with AI, it kinda has like 90% the same info, but I can chat back and forth, have it break stuff down, have it explain stuff in different ways, I can explain my understanding to it and it can tell me where I'm wrong kinda stuff
Just finish us off after climate change kills 99% of us.
that was just going on about how "its gonna take all your jobs and you're too scared to admit it, and that its so much more than a prediction model, because it understands the thing you're talking about"
I thought you were going to refer to the tech running it is gonna bleed Earth dry :P
I find that scenario a lot more soothing than getting to old age and being sick and unable to move
π
Itβs time for Atlas to pick up a new set of skills and get hands on. In this video, the humanoid robot manipulates the world around it: Atlas interacts with objects and modifies the course to reach its goalβpushing the limits of locomotion, sensing, and athleticism.
To learn how we go from idea to execution, go being the scenes with our team: h...
honestly id much rather die some cool robot uprising death than die of some disease we could probably cure in the 10 years after my death
To a degree it is true that we don't fully understand these models, it's impossible to understand a 150B parameter model to every single detail
There is a lot of emergent behavior we don't know why it happens, these models can do a lot more than they should on paper but it's still so far from sentience
And ever further from a murder machine
What does B stand for again?
billion
Oh. That was simple.
GPT3 is around 150 billion, requiring like 300GB of VRAM for inference at fp16
GPT4 is rumored to be around 1 trillion but not sure if it was confirmed
is that number of neurons jobs its going to take
But a lot of research has shown that these models are severely undertrained, and you can get similar performance out of 7B-12B parameter models since you can feed it more data in the same time
I'm going to be so robophobic. "Mom, this is 1001010010, we're dating now" like hell no you're not
robophobia sounds like a game i'd play ngl
It's basically the number of weights, each weight being a 16bit float (in half precision)
Every input generally passes through every single one of those weights
is that not similar to how neurons in a neural net function?
my knowledge is very rudimentary
doesnt help that they cancelled the ai elective at uni which i was very much looking forward to
Neural nets (human) are binary, discrete not continous.
Computer neural nets are actually better.
ahh
Sort of yeah
Tho the concept of neurons is a bit misleading when talking about more complicated networks like LLMs
While yes it has feed forward networks that are your typical neuron based networks there is a lot more going on inside, like multihead attention that's a big part of it
It's not your traditional neuron based network but still has trainable weights so it's ML
Multi head attention being the layers that quite literally pay attention to input tokens and how they relate
Do you work with ML professionally or is it just a hobby thing?
Professionally (tho it's not my main thing)
Question. Would it be efficiently possible pretrain AI to use for stuff like a relatively basic enemy AI? Like FEAR level, or is too heavy for that
pretty sure there are already games that use super basic ML for stuff like that iirc
You could totally have "learning" agents in game
I don't know anything about it, but curious if I should add it to my list of "Things I should learn"
5.2 has added a ML framework
There is already AI that learns how people play games.
And AI that plays games.
I've definitely played a couple of games where the enemies adapt to your playstyle to give you more of a challenge
Like if you take a popular game, for instance chess or, idk, starcraft.
You feel every single game ever played into an AI, it will be able to play.
And beat everyone.
Yeah, but I mostly see that as like a "player replacement AI" kinda stuff like botting, and less like "there's 10 doods powered by my lightweight AI trying to kill you"
FWIW chess masters play chess just like AIs do. They remember games played beforehand and which situations/moves lead to victory and apply them to the current situation.
You could technically like pre train "fighting" agents that have been trained in thousands of example scenarios and it could perform well in any environment you put it in
usually it just records player's performance (K/D, accuracy...ect) and gets more aggressive/passive depending on those values
I think most famously Alien Isolation uses machine learning for it's AI, and thats an old one
we are gonna be seeing it more and more
one of the best AI example i could think of that beats alien isolation is the sims
Alien Isloation is one of the bet crafted horror experiences I have played.
Like if you avoid the vents it hangs above, then it will do that less often, and instead pop out randomly more often.
If it keeps catching you in lockers, and you keep hiding there, then it will automatically hunt lockers.
If you keep repelling it with a flamethrower as a get out of jail free card, it gets used to the fire and eventually runs through it and kills you.
tho ig you cant really call that machine learning?
the best reaction i had is when i kept using noise makers. it eventually started ignoring them!
It honestly has the best ai in a game that I have ever seen, because no matter how often you play it, the enemy is always a threat.
Yeah me too! Its amazing
"Machine learning is when you smash matrices together" is what my brain has done
that's not so far from the truth lol
You could be a master of the hardest difficulty, but unless you frequently switch playstyle, which is very hard, it will always be a threat. You can never be safe in that game, and there is no crutch to rely on
Genuinely should have won game of the year every year since it launched, because no game since has come close to the experience it provides
Tunic was the biggest snub ever, not winning Indie of the Year last year because cat game
but there's a meow button!
The whole finding the pages of the game manual and experimenting and trying to figure out how to play.
Sounds like you can train it to be deceived.
The only reason i finished the game was because there was a promise of Resident Evil 8 up for grabs, if i streamed the whole game for my friend's sadistic amusement.
Otherwise I would have chickened out. Truly a horrifying game. I've never fault so unsafe playing a horror game. It's just so atmospheric. Most other horror titles are like "phew that was scary. least i know not to do that again." or, "that was a good jumpscare, wonder when the enxt one will be", but Alien: Isolation is the only game that kept me completely on edge the entire time, even when the alien was not possibly a threat, because for story reasons it wasn't present. That's how good it is. You're still scared of it even when they say you don't have to be :P
Tunic is like they distilled that feeling of sitting in the back seat of the car, looking at the book of a new game you bought being excited to try all the new things out
Furthermore, the release is said to have a late 2023 window.
good news :D
I cannot wait
it might be the only game i preorder
yep. it can learn to ignore the noisemaker but not the human enemies.
you know some speedrunner has :P
so you can lead them to the alien and have it distracted for a while
that was the only thing that kept me alive, using the other humans as bait to keep myself safe.
π₯³ oh i cant wait!
I wonder how they could've improved on the AI?
Scary games π
probably with a hell of a lot of advancements in ai.
Having the alien be even smarter would be a pretty good concept.
and cruel honestly. i already struggled with the first game π’
more tools to distract the alien would awsome as well
and jumpscares. like the existing ones are scary but they're too few imo. it kinda got boring at the end
yeah. it would be cruel. But it would be good to see an alien that behaves more accurately to the movie. Not something you can scare away with a flamethrower for half the game before it learns to not be scared of it. A really great part would be more sequences where you're forced and boxed in with it, like the medbay.
the medbay was the most terrifying part of that game
although honestly for me they wouldnt even need to improve on it
just a sequel would be great
updated to have graphics in line with the modern times
tbh that sequence wasnt super scary from what i remember. all i remember is i was under something and then chasing the alien
'twas pretty funny
the last time i played it was on my old xbox 360
i should replay it
i've got it on epic games store for free.
||medbay was one of the sequences where the alien was constantly roaming. no safety from the events, you had to sneak around it and hope to god you didnt touch it's tail. It wasn't a difficult section, it was just the mental challenge and the atmospheric difficulties for me.||
||my tactic was to chase it until it hid on a vent, reload the flamethrower and get closer to my objective, repeat π||
They could have trained it a shit load on games played, but the trouble is that sort of training will always be defeated by the meta game.
||isnt that the sequence that made you force the alien into a space shutle? that ending twist was insane! that genually crashed me for a good week π ||
They were so close to greatness
and it could also make new comers stray away from the game for its difficulty
||What's the ending twist?||
i doubt they went that route
That's why you have difficulty settings!
Basically AI difficulty is "should I make the right move in this situation? roll dice"
100% difficulty = always the right move. 0% = always the wrong move.
||the alien was never lured into the space shutle. well one of them at least iirc||
yeah that's a fair point π
||oh yeah. did i mention there's more than one?||
||there's more than two. there are many many of them. There's like 8 of them iirc||
||when you purge the reactor they all scatter||
||medbay sequence was before flamethrower iirc. It was the one where you had to get the gear to treat taylor's wounds.||
hmmm i forgot about that sequence. i should replay that game again π
you really should
so good
||I really liked after the reactor purge, when you are captured by the alien and hung in the nest, and after that the whole ship is nesitified and facehuggers are a constant threat. I really like that sort of world building and it really helped build the atmosphere of "we are all doomed, there is no hope".||
||face huggers!||
that opened a core memory for me lol. there was an old alien game in the style of doom
those pesty things always managed to kill me lmao
I have it but never played it, I should give it a go
the game's so good it does not deserve to be spoiled
100% you should. just keep an extra pair of underwear handy :)

dw you'll have fun
I heard a lot of good stuff about it
i bet you did lol
lol

first 10 minutes of aliens dark descent are pretty cool
my sleepy ass definitely need this
There are apps you can get for your phone too where you have to engage your brain by solving puzzles and shit to turn off the alarm.
good to have a phone with removable battery
Who builds lighting anymore
God
Poor cat!
I mean the cat itself probably is
I tried one of those and I threw my phone in the closet and almost never found it because it died
I haven't seen many cats with a stable income
It ended up like inside a jacket pocket that was hanging up
Cats have income, their host.
staple food income
staples make awful food. They're all spiky and metallic
Why are cats such assholes π€£
Never actually seen that full gif before and damn
Case in point
lol
Alright everyone, enough goofing around, get back to work before I have to fire you
Ive been working non stop, can I get a raise?
No, you get more work.
π₯³
if only we would get a gym, or a personal trainer at least
its funny, but I am starting to appreciate Horse Seeman more every day
"no boss, i dont need unreal atm, it only degenerates our graphics cards, windows paint does the job"
@deep glen horse seeman might not grow on you, but you can get a refill π
its def. growing on me XD
I could see Horse Seeman really catching
Soon you might see Horse Seeman all over the world
Horse what now? π

BoJack horseman at home:
are they related? how are they related? do they know that they are related? lets find out! in Horse Celebrities and their relatives, are they inbreds and do they know?
lets look into the experts handbook and horse guide, from germany, they make sophisticated science
well... Bo Jack HM is the rightful son of a quarterhorse and an arabian princess,
H Seeman is afaik the rightful son of a shire and a quarterhorse,
but...
according to wikipedia regarding quarterhorses:
"One of the most famous of these early imports was Janus, a Thoroughbred who was the grandson of the Godolphin Arabian. "
and here we have it...
so its likely that horsemans dad married his grand grand grand cousin... who is also the a greatgreataunt of seeman... or somin, those german scientists are hard to translate
hopefully you got a proper house at least.. seen some crazy shit if no arch was involved -.-
windows? just glue this plass panel into that hole in the wall!
a roof? heres a bucket of silicon paint mate!
that apartments gonna easily go for 3k a week!
and you feel like "dude... but... dude... seriously.... cmon... fuck me....whatever...."
I always wanted to pretend to be an architect
yeah, she does good work
it a fuck annoying job mate, only 10% or so are the fun design part... rest is calculations, bills, complaints, phonecalls, driving round and standing in mud
I just wish houses weren't as expensive
the building mat etc are the prob atm, like 5times or so the usual price
has horse seeman ever tried to become an architect?
please stop, it hurts
already gonna cost me like 600k
yikes... we wanted to do the roof and building manager was like "easy, we can get 30k no probs"... i was like... wait a minute... lets calculate that... -.- yeah... fuck it for now XD
gotta hold!
its a tough roof, i hope, it honestly aint, but hope u know, believeeeee
hope you have the same amount for raising them kids till college
college? mine are gonna work the carpet knitting as soon as they have hands
oh a restauration lol...
i luv it, just more expensive cause regulations
you goota post the floor plans too now
oh really?
you used to be able to subtract your home loan from your taxes as expenses partially
of course they got rid of that
except for second homes π
Logic
XD nice shit haha
we have some okay subsidies - 10k for an electric car if you recycle your old one (10 years plus) and only 5% VAT for homes under 120k euros
what homes exist under 120k though
these days?
unless you're like in easern europe maybe
80% of apartments
I got news for you
now you made us curious yo
2500euros/sqm?
math? go away lol
that's not far off from most expensive cities here (in Eastern Europe)
we're not so poor anymore sadly lol. these days we have immigrants working the menial jobs
house prices are whack too
2,5 aint really expnsive for bratwursthausen
I heard property in Ukraine is quite affordable atm
ya but you cant get rubels due to "laws"
at least it's a nice house
dunno, if i build somin i build somin new that works and then fancy it up, not that much into repeating old styles, even thou i think some of them are beautiful
I hate modern style
bauhaus 1920s basics all the way i guess for realistic stuff
all just ugly friggin blocks
Yall can afford houses!?
that's impossible
check mies van der rohe as the prolly sexiest housing dude of the bunch
people have been complementing my SIL's house a lot for being so beautiful, it's literally a block with one part taken out
and make a biiiig wide circle around le corbusier
my faveourite style is inter-war, when architects were as famous as rock stars
that was prolly a freaky time in general with al the tech advances
no one appreciates them π¦
those are just large verandas
lol yeah...1880s or 1920s house destroyed
yes! they melt with the landscape and focus on you in the environment
those are not houses man, those are display cases
like a hobbit house
yeah personally i like me some proper walls
i agree
but a huge glass front towards some bushes and a lawn or even a waterfall is just sexy
I've been liking them more and more, the more I look at house prices
our entire side of the lower floor is gonna be glas
$300k for a house, or $10k to build one out of dirt
idk, bilbo was rich
well its not like in those youtube survival videos lol
Omg, that's such a beautiful layout
or at least big parts
a ton of bent wood for circular passages and doors, hydro isolation and everything, hardwood floors...must have cost a fortune
111 years of compounding interest will do that
maybe slavery wasn't illegal in middle earth
its also darn much work to keep some dirt house alive through rain, winter, summer, rainworms and such
middle earth people were piss poor, even that fricking dragon only had like 40billion in gold, hapag lloyed makes that as net gain in 3yrs, and then some
and that dragon took millenias for it
i always wondered if they dont know the three little pigs build a house and then comes a wolf story
like videos of people smashing through walls wtf
tbf you can do that with most walls in europe too
maybe you can do that with gyproc
just not the structural ones as easily
real chad have only structural walls
even a shitty one layer brick wall you can kinda kick in with some motivation
a one layer brick wall can probably fall by itself lol
nah float style houses like those american ones are descent tbh, look at sweden etc, they last long enough usually and dont cost a fortune, mats were available etc, thing with the states is just that they fucked up their environment so badly that tornados now wreck the lands... see "dustbowl" and check some images what the fricking mad max they did to the whole middle of the usa
middle of usa is pretty much way down south anyway....same latitude as spain
new york is rome lat
but they got no alps
their mountains are north south hence they get shit cold winds
and between apalachians and rockies theres a huge plains area
Like impossibly flat
natives used to burn trees to stimulate grass growth and wild herding... then euros came, fucked up the regulated system, erosion, more erosion, dustbowl, and now tornados... simply put... as far as i understand
english lawns are so accurate, awesome
no insects is due to fumigation, they poisongas the bushes, cause evil spiders and such
Tornados aren't from there being no trees
There hasn't been trees in the plains for like thousands of years
no but due to temp differences clashing
not our spider friends
Lawns are so dumb, tho
spiders are not friends
there were cultivated oak trees for example and even native grass does hold the soil, not al grass is like english lawn, fragile and sensitive, some is like horizontal underground bamboo
they are not food either
maybe not your friends
spiders protect you from evil mosquitos and such
theres a reason why we have a superhero called spiderman
cause spiders are heroes and save us daily
and they're cute
with their 8 eyes
well, all i can say to your well reasoned arguments is......PURGE
good luck being eaten alive by insects
cows creep me out man. im convinced those fuckers are not from this planet
