Personally I don't think AI work should be copyrightable without creative authorship from a human, so that AI content farms cant just pump out things en masse and sue anyone that recreates anything.

I believe copyright infringement and protections are a great thing, and not just a corporate tool, while they are used (and abused that way)
More allowances should be given for derivative works, if only allowing royalties to be collected (if for profit) rather than the whole thing shut down. The current system is barely equipped for gaming videos and fan works, let alone ai works based off real works

yeah while copyright is absuable by the bigwigs to hurt the little people, its equally abusable to have no copyright, where everything is free market and content farms just farm good ideas from the little guy with no repercussions.
it just needs a rebalance, one that holds people accountable for false takedowns, with harsher penalties for larger organizations, but one that also allows the little people to hold the big ones accountable, without incurring hundreds of thousands in legal fees. Like the copyright court in london, allows even tiny creators to take action against anyone for minimal fees. no legal drowning, just a pretty simple process.
The only problem is the implementation of that rebalance is tricky. One that keeps things robust and stands to scrutiny, while penalizing falsehoods and content farms, but not unfairly restricting anyone. It's tryina make a utopian solution to a dystopian implementation.

I don't do street weed anymore. You don't know what you are getting and I need a specific CBD/THC ratio otherwise it can make my anxiety worse.
It's actually better for me to not take any rather than potentially end up with something that is too strong with THC.
It did take me a week to adjust though. That being said, the anxiety right now due to my circumstance is sublime. My palms are like swimming pools, my chest feels like I have an alien ready to burst out of it and my train of thought is like spaghetti. I start thinking of something and before I know it I'm thinking of 5 other things all at once. My focus gets a bit skewed so I'm just taking it easy and only helping others with Unreal rather than doing any of my personal projects.
I tell you now though... I'm so hungry to get back to work. When I do find a new place I'm even thinking about switching from freelance to full time studio work.

The thing is, in this day and age, being a generalist is actually in demand. Especially as a tech artist
I used to be told all the time that I should specialise, so I did with UI work when I first started. That was partially done with UnrealScript in UE3 via scaleform so I transitioned to C++ with UE4 fairly easily. I'd been coding for 15 years by then so it wasn't tough to get into. But the more I fell in love with Unreal Engine, the more I wanted to learn so I drifted between disciplines, which helped me with programming too. Plus knowing a bit about everything in the engine helps me debug issues and develop systems a lot better.

on the MP, lots of big packs of each type, $10-$20 per pack, so it'd end up being over $100 to get a full set, and I'd probably only use 4-5 of each pack ๐ฆ

Maybe try your own ai art? My experience with icons packs was pretty mixed bag too. Either to nice art or missing what I need.
At the end, I just did a small level for auto-capturing meshes and making them icons.

My previous car had to be trashed because the previous owner had bricked the OBD trying to mod it and it could no longer be serviced, and wasn't feasible (if they're even possible?) to replace.
All the parts were fine and relatively new and managed. But the car no longer "knew" how to use them right and the mechanics could no longer connect to the diagnostics ๐

I havent tried it because it'd feel like going backwards into mod territory for me. Im not sure why I would impose those limitations on myself, its good Epic lets you keep your IP but you do get locked in UEFN, it would be difficult to port if you wanted to move to a stand alone title.

A lot of England's bureaucracy is so archaic and over the top. Getting there? No problem, getting back out with all your personal belongings? Lord have mercy.
The forms and procedures you have to fulfill aren't just tedious, they're often simply impossible for the layperson to do.
I was expected to somehow know what ship, what various identifications it, the container and shipments would have, when and where it would leave, transfers between ships and other transport methods, etc. And that was just the first couple of lines on the first of many documents.

I have a bachelor's degree with honors I'm quite proud of, and I immediately pursued a master's to top it off.
But another year of just working on my own project versus 3 years of learning an entire field of profession just never felt like the same accomplishment to me.
Can I say I have a bachelor and master's when asked?

So the point is that the problem isn't the education itself. Think of it like having access to much better tutorials, documentation, live demonstrations and be able to ask and dig into information from experts about anything at any time and a curriculum making you learn about important areas that you might avoid when you are self-taught. You get solid, controlled foundations so that you don't have to unlearn bad information. Not to mention you're in an environment where everything is about learning more and figuring out how the topics at hand works, keeping you hyper focused on your goal, all the while you build up the resources to show your capabilities. Screw the piece of paper, all it shows is that you had that access.
Whether or not you are the type of person that will make use of the opportunity while you have it, is a separate issue and it will show in the end.
(People who simply learn better other ways aside of course)

I also just started a new degree, and it's really because it's the type of environment that helps me learn and dive in real deep. People are just different like that and you can't just throw everyone under the bus and act like education is always worthless. (Not saying you in particular said that)

For me it was the opportunity to talk directly to talent scouts in person as well as having a more guided process through harder elements or programming, as well as a whole employability module that guided us through good cv practice, how to make portfolios and such. Taught by someone who used to be an international hiring manager for BUPA, so that helps too :P
the one thing that i hate, although is quite good for me was learning how to cope in a team, but also an unreliable team

I didn't have the best experience with both my bachelor and master's projects. The people judging my work were related to a different side-curriculum to avoid bias, but they had no experience with the toolset I was using and just assumed it handled everything for me instead of doing nearly everything from scratch. So they both have much lower scores than everything else, despite having the most amount of effort by a long shot.
The teacher in my first year also only paid attention and bothered thoroughly evaluating his favorites in front of the classroom. The rest of us got all C's on everything regardless of if we even tried or not.
I mean, Cs aren't the worst grade, but it's discouraging when the thing you really excel at and go all in on gets the exact same result as everything else.

I've ran through most game mode types as prototypes just to learn new things. Hardest one for me was a fighting game. So many technical frame related elements that makes multiplayer a bit of a nightmare, not to mention all the animation work.
the best thing I took away from that fighting project was using Pose Assets and blends. A really useful technique in a lot of situations

Hmm... I created a struct that holds all my character stats, but also created all the variables on the character. The struct was for save info, convenience, but.... why not just keep it all in that struct? get rid of the individual vars?

It gives you prediction, some game-designers friendly tools and a basic framework to do abilities, together with animations and etc (cues). Stack effects, tag based abilities and etc.
Convenient Input handling too.. ๐ค a lot of stuff. In some spaghetti manner, typical to UE.

GAS must be set up in C++, but GameplayAbilities and GameplayEffects can be created in Blueprint by the designers. ๐ฆ

Nobody cares about the smaller, but much more well made projects. The big ones that promise the world and ends up being a buggy tech demo with no content is what wins out in attention.

yep. I used VS to make C++ files once to save me regenerating the project, but then realised its just better to do it manual and regenerate the project. Funny how VS is a turd at times.
