it's like using some gamemaker tool or whatever. When you know unreal its hard to find common things missing, but then it makes up for it with systems you can hook into each other to make new systems. Or write a custom verse one. It's not much different that using the Fortnite creative mode tho. It's just the same but in Unreal with the ability to make some custom assets.

You can do that with modularity too tho, and probably mostly do. But Lyra putting the framework in place to work within does shift the paradigm to a cleaner and more efficient project in the long term. Not to mention the benefit over multiple projects using it. It just seems like if I'm going to use the stuff in the project like GAS and EOS anyway.

I have to disagree, Lyra is not clean and only adds needless complexity. Dont get me wrong, the new game features plugin etc are awesome but Lyra doesnt make a clear enough distinction between game code and framework, you cant just copy the framework without taking the entire game with it

Thats what I find happens with most projects, is the game is too interconnected to pull it apart. This is fine and modularity usually comes from packages which connect with the game since the game and framework are so heavily tied together... eg Unreal, UT, Fortnite etc

Your gameplay abilities wont work with my projects, thats kinda what Im saying. Theres no point spending extra time trying to write code which can be decoupled unless it benefits your project directly and thats why Lyra has some base code which cannot be removed because its core to that game versus a framework like GAS which you can decouple from UE entirely if you dont need to use it.

As an RTS project Im better off just rewriting the boilerplate as much as a pain in the arse that is. The real issue is that Epic hasnt automated the boilerplate enough, not that we needed to be spoon fed

yeah we likely wouldn't have done it if not for covid. Not to mention with their personal interests being in computers I had it covered. Even learned Blender to teach them how to use it. Still learning things to help them. Like UEFN currently. They all excel in the english, maths and sciences and that's all the grounding needed. The rest is just letting them flavour their own life with things they want to do.

I understand you know more than i about it all, but i assure you, it had net access. I had it go and read the blender API online and it returned with a corrected script due to the API changes. I have pointed it to GIT that was put up the day before and it coudl read them., It did/does infact access sites as it wants, but is picky about it, and lies through its digital teeth

For someone like me, who literally can't get better than 8Mbit dsl if I want a decent ping, to not interfere with other activties too much, I'd have to throttle that so much it'l, take literally days to download. It actually does... you download most of the content when the dlc releases because cross-server transfers mean you need a lot of the data. Once you pick the DLC, you download pretty much just the map. Unless there's something I'm missing.

maybe I can show you.... I created a rig, with an intermediate layer that is an exact clone of the caascadeur rig, and then retargeting with rokoko addon is a matter of just selecting bones that gets retargeted like nothing... since the rig is a clone
