xr maybe the thing for future
Surely that's a thing on science theaters
That'll make things much more immersive
imax 3d experience
Hush, you scare the filmmakers away with the giant cameras
What they want is to show this in a swimming pool.
IMAX equipment are humongous and expensive
It's a swimming pool, I'm not sure people are gonna notice it's not in 3d.
yyeah we all need to watch new avatar on swimming poool
Smaller than a 4090 tho ๐
They wish
Reminds me of those wacky hoax about pregnancy risk from someone pleasing himself in the pool
Wasn't that a Chuck Palahniuk story
I just released the poll on twitter of avatar way of water teh movie experience 2d or 3d and 3d got lots of votes
how to find first few websites who mention a word for the first time?
Or the third way
so its impossible? oO
meg sat on the toilet, and then she pooped. end.
I think you can look the word up in an online dictionary
If the word was first used on the web
... its not a dictionary word
All words are dictionary words
like "the meg"
or "unreal engine 4"
i wnna know which sites are the first ones to use these words
Something like google trends?
even the first website, only used it because a human already used it
Unless you're talking to chatgpt
is that a blueprint?
why do you need to know this lol
knowledge is POWER
like the ancients said, the keyboard is stronger than the sword
but ya... top floor has a pretty view, but shitty insulation, are there heated keyboards?
damn, i love japan, heated keyboards, heated toiletts, they know their wamth!
Just turn the case around to blow hot gpu air over your hands
My legs are always warm. The PC case is under the table.
laptop with attached keyboard here -.-
I don't have a 4090 so I suffer in the cold
should maybe just put the thing on my legs and play star citizen in high quality
Laptops also can warm you. Your lap.
bah 2070 here, that thing gets 100C
And bye bye kids
secondary cooling vents are actually out of the keyboard
kids... what have kids ever done for you
Choose one.
I'd probably get a heated blanket and put it in front of the laptop
Get a dog or cat so it can warm up your lap
last night i wore two hoodies and an ushanka hat while doodeling around...
Get a standing desk and the extra movement will warm you up
pets! yes! i already envy my mates with their many peets... just get some velcro strips and you can attach them everywhere you need
movement doesnt help, tried, cant do that many pushups, was ok until it dropped below freezing
i guess ill get a couple of otters and tell the gas company to piss off
look at them awwww
are heating otters tax deductable?
awwwww
Aww that's cute
They prefer desktop yeah, but then I want to make sure if it's the right choice given that all in remote working
well yeah that can be a problem
but they could either remote into the machine or work on their personal machines if they wanted
last job just had desktops
but we didn't work from home
did he just trip over nothing xD
now we just have laptops
but we connect to VDI's so we don't really do development on the laptop itself
it's definitely the nicer solution of the 2 I think
but also most cumbersome to set up
and more expensive on small scale
what does it even mean now?
Random nerd fact
definitely one of my childhood crushes
Isn't she a bit old for you?
If you want to be really OTT, you could buy laptops that have external monitors, mice and keyboards. Then they could be both desktop and portable solutions. Like those docking station things that company does.
@sand oxide ๐น
i prefer those meg's
Another random nerd fact, a nibble is 4 bits. Half of a "byte".
๐ค
Comes from nibbing
Comes from nibble and bite...
Creative.
too many nybbles make a byte ๐
Or, rather, two nybbles make a byte!
think of how many nybbles our messages transfer
True Life: I'm addicted to hot reloading
and i am addicted to you
i am still looking for more people who played masseffect ๐ฆ
i need more opinions!!!!
i am on the reddit
i already grabbed people there
the post sadly got burried after 1600 views
Yes? ๐ฐ
i dont know where i else i could look
Which subs at reddit? UE, masseffect, gaming
Which ones? All of them?
And what is the question?
Though, unless it's "is the mako the best gameplay ever?" then it doesn't matter.
but why?
@deep copper quick, apply for moderator. Then you can hug people without them being able to do anything about it ๐
i don't use ue and i might have to work then ๐ญ
i need more opinions so that the results are more accurate
i like being a lazy freeloader
Opinion on what?
but why mass effect?
why not , ff? that has many parts
stop asking me to break my nda
ah okay
Just act like you don't know what a NDA is in court. #NotLegalAdvice
i actually didn't a few months ago, this server let me know
discord is a great place for learning
and for getting scammed.
CLICK MY LINK
and hugging
ITS NOT A SCAM
NMD-01
I PROMISE
sounds like what a scammer would say
You haven't actually asked what you want an opinion on, other than "mass effect". Did you want a quick response to how we liked the entire series of games ?
This is also what a scammer would say.
๐ค๐ค๐ค

Bread Effect
no i have a google form
do you want to fill it out?
Is it more than one page?
the next part might be Sliced Bread Effect
its more then one page.
that's huge
Then you and your questionnaire are wrong and should die.
(Well, the questionnaire at least)
Stroke of genius
It's one page too many
Isaac Newton's private time.
INPT for short, and that actually sounds like an acronym
Fixed it.
i will stop bothering you people.
why not visit a gaming server?
that should have a lot of players
(if you haven't already)
I don't know why you need a really long mass effect questionnaire.
If you were more focused, you'd get far more results.
a gaming server?
maybe some analysts need it
yes, with more gamers who only game, and not dev
maybe visit one made for mass effect
though their answers might be baised
Definitely.
as they are a group, so similar answers
ok i joined a mass effect server
good job agent
but i will have to leave this server
Why are you doing this poll? Also polls are generally single questions.
oh no
byeeeeeeeee
I must admit a mass effect questionnaire is odd
it's for the masses
was it a bad server?
You're a loud ghost
Poltergeist.
ask chat gpt to fill it
(the literal meaning of poltergeist is noisy ghost)
uhm
does it have any other meaning?
the wording makes it feel like i missed something
Why?
Rude
Not hard enough.
Also a mean ghost apparently
ah okay it's a film
That's perfect!
What's a film?
Poltergeist is a 1982 American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe
Poltergeist is a German word.
wiki says it
no wonder it's long
German for "rumbling ghost" or "noisy spirit") is a type of ghost or spirit that is responsible for physical disturbances, such as loud noises and objects being moved or destroyed. Most claims or fictional descriptions of poltergeists show them as being capable of pinching, biting, hitting, and tripping people. They are also depicted as capable of the movement or levitation of objects such as furniture and cutlery, or noises such as knocking on doors. Foul smells are also associated with poltergeist occurrences, as well as spontaneous fires and different electrical issues such as flickering lights
that's terrifying
Pretty sure the word was around well before 1982...
whoever thought this up needed to stay quiet
The English word ghost is also related; it descends from the same ancient root that led to "Geist." Although "ghost" has been used in English since before the 12th century, "poltergeist" is a relative newcomer, first appearing as an English word in the middle of the 19th century.
Like over 100 years before Tobe.
Great movie, Steven Spielberg wrote that one
you should watch a few horror movies before sleeping if you want to sleep like a baby
i am certain that won't work
I mean wake up crying every hour ๐
Thats what happens anyways, lack of hugs
Perfect horror movie is everyone in lounge denying hugs ๐
pretty much the reality
"poltergeist" is documeted since the 16th century according to google
and there arent documents before that time in germany because thats around when everybody from near and far thought it would be funny to kill each other in that area... and bunfires are always nice to watch...
well, some documents exist from before that time... but ya... lots got lost
its like elves... or kung fu.... or whatever...
just because tolkien only wrote LOTR in the early 20th century and bruce lee only made kung fu movies in the 70s, or john capenter only came up with the movie title "poltergeist" around the same time, doesnt mean those words didnt exist before.
like elf appearantly comes from alb, some proto germanic daemons that suffocate you in our sleep... kung fu is just chinese for hard work or somin, and poltergeist is simply an invisible being that makes noise... most likely wind... but people are bored so they make up shit... call it an ancient meme "yo Gertrude, did you hear that noise?" "no" "it was probably a polternder Geist! BOOO" "AHHH, no Siegfried, help, protect me my knight, hihi"
seeing how fucking cold europe is suddenly i tend to presume that its a unicultural habit that automaticially developes as an instigator for hugging, to keep warm... like penguins do it
"did you see that icebear?" "no" "its an invisible polternder eisbaer!" "omg" "lemme hug you for protection" "yes please"
we got a word for this... zeitgeist
the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time. "the story captured the zeitgeist of the late 1960s"
"the anime display picture really captured the zeitgeist of the late 2000s"
that's so adorable
I wonder what the zeit part translates as.
time, spirit of the time
I feel that last arrow is a little superfluous.
Z becomes smaller
time spirit seems like it could mean something else, like an extra dimensional being
there was one British TV show I remember, there were aliens which would phase into our dimension from theirs
o, how spooky
So I'm hearing Dr Who
Invasion: Earth I think and odd, did Wikipedia die
I don't remember that at all.
it died right after i searched poltergeist ๐จ
your pc is haunted now, good luck
it was my fault, I clicked on the article with the royals
royals?
ah ok got it
He's already had some top tier hugs.
I wonder if royal huggers are a thing
I often wonder what it's like to live as a royal in England.
Whether they have any concept of a private life or family time.
maybe not, one dude left the royals right? it probably had some restrictions
because i don't see why you would leave
That was well into his adult life, though.
That gif is so on point
don't tell me... that's the dude?
Yes.
thats Prince Harry, yes lol man
Probably because he got so much shit over Meghan.
what xD
thats why you need hugs, youre still cold from being frozen in ice all this time
ah , well it's not my fault he isn't that memorable xDD
I think it's just you who doesn't know who he is.
There are tribes as yet undiscovered by science that know who Prince Harry is.
considering the queen's lifespan I don't doubt it
she was still alive when you were frozen in time aye
In all honesty Im less disturbed by the fact you dont know who Prince Harry is than that you didnt know Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
Well yeah prince harry is just some random dude now right
not a royal
So a friend just told me, Winnie the Pooh is now public domain and somebody is making a Winnie the Pooh horror film called Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey.
That sounds terrifying.
same with Will Smith
but he is actor that slaps people, you gotta know him to be wary
I didn't even know the shit he did until my friend told me about it the other day on Discord.
besides, how many gifs of will smith vs prince harry or even Christmas carol do you think i have seen?
Where are you from?
your education is solely from gifs?
my memory IS practically lol, price harry came and went away, no way i would recognise him again
i recognise the queen because of how frequently you see her online everywhere, but i really don't see any other royal online
You know, the best candidates for aliens are people who either know only pop culture references or know no pop culture references. And considering you life to hug people - are you a xenomorph baby?
maybe the hugs is the way the aliens are mapping our dna
i did know he left the royals though!!! i know the story
give me some points for that
Another prince telling a story about how his life got flipped, turned upside down.
here you go, you can start with Keanus recommended list
movies are quite some commitment of time, i rather prefer not watching anything xD so i am cut off from series or movies, specially western
yes because lounge is such a brilliant allocation of resources ๐
He has some good taste. I'm glad he has The Big Lebowski. It really ties the list together.
yes, it has you!
yeah its a pretty decent list, couple of my favs on there
Rollerball is one I can always watch
i will keep that list stored somewhere, for now
@deep copper https://m.xkcd.com/2621/
Now Im wondering if we start talking about K-Pop if affectionateUser will know them all
Quick name the actor who played the green power ranger
that's a trick question: dubbed American or original?
You must know alot we dont, surely you spend this time on something
hugging people, yes
can you weave or sow?
nope
oh I know, youre a fisher
i hope dieter doesn't add it to my notes
i can't even swim
Why doesnt that surprise me
either way- enough about this! let's talk about how your wiki went down and why you are suddenly looking at royals
Slow news night, apparently Azealia Banks hates Australia
(I had to look her up too lol)
so handsome
Little known thing... in Canada, Mickey Mouse is public domain. Our copyright laws aren't as long as the US's... but, it's the original Mickey Mouse, not the modern one. ๐ I've considered it... very very deeply. James Bond is also public domain in Canada.
which is the "original" one?
The Steamboat Willy Mickey Mouse.
It was hilarious when they tried to extend the copyright law so they could keep ownership of it after so long.
When the whole TPP deal thing was going on, Canada refused to sign on because Disney demanded copyright be extended by 75 years. So, when Trump pulled America out of that deal, the copyright demands got pulled out too... and Canada signed back on. Canada takes its copyright and public domain pretty seriously.
Good for you guys!
... sry bit late... regarding "Zeitgeist"
just like in english, the german word for "spirit", "Geist", has a bunch of meanings, from alcoholic beverages, over god, to the mind of people, to ghosts, really quite like the english word,
in the context of Zeitgeist, it usually refers to the feeling or the spirit of a time, an era, and its people, how the people were up and on about during a certain time about certain things
so lets say the 20th century, the zeitgeist for each decade would have been like:
0-10 romanticism
10-20 war
20-30 party
30-40 work
40-50 war
50-60 work
60-70 freedom
70-80 party
80-90 bling
90-00 colorful splish splash
00-10 digital evolution
10-20 meme culture
differs a bit locally of course
and differs a lot by age groups...
no, in the 90s everyone was into colors, 256 and counting
like a throwback to the 8th century or somin
or kindergarten
cause back in the day, germans kept their children in the garden, on a leash, to pluck potatos and turnips
Isn't "Inside Unreal: Year in Review 2022" supposed to be happening like right now? I'm not seeing any stream up
they still do
fences, walls..

WHAT Come join us live with special guests as we celebrate a sensational year! From the official release of Unreal Engine 5 to innovative community projects, we have loads of fond moments to look back on. As a final holiday treat, weโll take an exclusive look at the upcoming Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Verse programming language. See you in ...
and the garden got bigger
cheap potato chips + vr headset + treadmill => free tesla fuel
but they dont teach that to young mothers, they still need to learn that on youtube
Is WunderTim on it?
For a cynic? Nah.
is there any point in watching any epic yt stream lately? ๐
I expect questions about Verse though
i feel like it went down the hill since victor left
do you already know how to build a canoe or hunt a chicken?
if not, then youtube it is
It is kind of neat that Tim does join in on these though.
Yeah...I think she is trying a bit too hard ๐
are you a very large chicken egg?
HE IS MUTED
and do i get cookies for solving riddles?
i uh, do have a mic, why do you scream in caps :O shiver
Honestly - the past two years has been a big focus on Nanite and Lumen stuff. As well as non-gamedev things. But honestly - it is a pretty missable event.
I really don't like how they aren't also streaming to Youtube though. I'd prefer not to be on Twitch.
What do you have against Twitch? ๐
Get outta here Lilly!
UE in review 2022
Ahhh, all the good things except Verse then, huh?
Verse is uhhh - divided 'round these parts spits in can
verse looks interesting at least ๐
I mean look at it
We'll find out next month
have you read some slides from some verse presentation?
Is your bugs broken??
Discord has been crap today with sharing gifs from tenor
You've been de-Bugs'd.
Well, you know... you can always do the roos.
I should sleep, I haven't done so in 24 hours.
tim associated unreal with meta verse ๐ญ
getting verse as scripting language, they are planning something...
@celest musk read the slides from here https://simon.peytonjones.org/verse-calculus/
second page of the slides
oh wait I might have misunderstood what you meant, nevermind ๐
have a good read if you haven't seen the slides
He's been doing that for years at this point ๐
oh
ok, the 2nd page reads kind of sane
so rather than trying to pull of their own metaverse "counter part" they advert verse and try to pull other engines into the boat... (which is probably not bad)
Well - I guess he just defined his vision for the metaverse
yea, but we all know it gonna be censored, too
just like chatgpt
@deep copper will you do it?
No Q&A this time 'round? Interesting
ngl, the sweaters they had are cool
and if they hadn't written down the names i wouldn't have recognized Amanda Schade
Yeah
lmao ๐
I missed a good chunk of the stream, but I saw their fancy new live studio setup. Looks great.
all the fortnite kids in twitch chat waited for it, and then tim was like "we wanted to show it, but it doesnt work right now" xDD
But the big thing, for us, is actually seeing Verse language
Weird indeed, if they didn't plan on doing Q&A, they could just as well have a pre-recorded stream with Verse actually working
they already use verse in Fortnite editor?
realityscan is out of closed beta, that's the only useful information i could get out of this ๐ญ
Yes. UEFN will be shipped with Verse language.
Verse is coming to Fortnite long before it comes to UE.
honestly aside from creative 2.0
there was nothing interesting
oh wait
they didn't showed it
;d
this wasn't meant to be interesting
Don't go into Year in Review streams expecting announcements or reveals.
you never fail to make us proud of you
I mean, they announced it: https://twitter.com/FNCreate/status/1603122079489990659
Tune in December 15 at 2 PM ET for a closer look at the upcoming Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Verse programming language during the Inside Unreal: Year in Review livestream!

Oh - we got a closer look alright ๐
It brokeded
if i could
I stand corrected in this case, but it's still a good general rule of thumb.
learn it
Now I know why there were 15K people watching that stream.
- No UEFN nor Verse scripting due to technical difficulties were shown
- we know UEFN was delayed due technical difficulties
- we know 2023 January is NOT a stable date of UEFN release.
I'd rather keep spamming you
no responses until you start
Most of the chat was protesting old UT games going offline.
i can't learn that, come on
You actually read the chat? ๐
that was the last 10 players and alt accounts
i played UT a year ago, and i can tell you, it was always the same players ๐
I looked at it when I arrived, then promptly ignored it.
streamers be like:
2023 will be an exciting year regardless.
It's Twitch. Always safe to ignore.
because one punch man s3 will be aired ๐ฅณ
also re:zero s3
Neat.
ark2, cyberpunk phantom thingy
I have things planned for Slackers as well.
probably late 2023
And I'm shipping my first horror game next year, too.
is it also horror themed?
Wait what?
i dont think animes get delayed that much, but because of the twitter catastrophe most animes got delayed
but OPM is being developed by a rich studio so probably not
Is my horror game horror-themed?
nvm me, now it's not funny anymore (or it never was)
The server is going to change a bit, and the new website will finally launch.
most studios hire from twitter
and people they could hire moved to other platforms etc
I, too, am planning on releasing my game next year ๐
Nice! Exciting. ๐
Be sure to share it here when you do.
Sharing category is getting a well-deserved overhaul.
do you pronounce the p in pfist
Do you even pronounce it?
then how do you pronounce the word
I imagine it like pfizer.
it's possible
With a bit of extra phhhhhtttttthhhhh ing at the start
a bit of what ๐
Exactly.
Would you like a hug?
say pist, but blow harder maybe
I'd pronounce it with a sharp F, not a usual soft F
FFFist
what an unreal name
FName (pFName ?!)
๐ฑ
me neither
you use Blueprints like a boss?
i use arch btw
i don't use ue xD
you do
where?!
in my house
can you be ue?
affectionateUser, unfortunately unlike you I can't be a software, I'm a human being.
affectionateUnreal
actually, ue sucks sometimes
really? can't be real
that has got to be the darn cutest thing i've ever seen
thats why i'm making my own engine
if im using something that sucks, i'm gonna go all the way.
Good luck to you my friend
compiling shaders is suprisingly fast if you dont have to do it 12000 times
Why does it compile only 10 shaders at a time instead of just all of them at once...
What about a dodecahedron?
I'm not even gonna ask what that is
why does it compile at all instead of not ...
true
wait till we meet :>
who needs to compile? only cpp users...
why does unreal even compile soooooo many shaders?
A tetrahedron just with 8 more faces
why aren't the shaders compiled in the first place?
oh, no thanks :)
but that doesnt excuse compiling 100 shaders for a single material
because epic got tired of shader compiling, too
so they let it up to us
damn
it got fat because it didn't excercise, so it compiles as an excercise
ah that explains a lot
and it probably depends on the rendering features you use in your project, so either you have a bloated installer with precompiled base shaders for each scenario, or you just let them compile on demand...
we need to form a rival company called legendary games and launch Real Engine, the first engine that has the shaders compiled in advance
thats probably also the reason for the C++ compile t imes
i dont think that would work
why not?
because then you could not modify the shaders
let's make it so you can modify the shaders
then you'll need to compile them to shader code
and they'll always be compiled
make the shaders as that thing, instance and we good to go ig
make a shader that doesn't require to compile
RealEngine is going to be quick and also slow but in different aspects compared to ue
exactly
thats literally the engine im making right now
and it'll use aU's AI capabilities to enhance the shader so it won't needed to be compiled and lower the size needed on your computer since aU will automatically upscale everything
then it wont be compiled but AI'd
thats just moving the issue
pro tip: you don't need to compile shaders if you write them at a low enough level
plus make a library in the Cloud except this time it won't be on a cloud (sometimes there are no clouds in the sky) and instead it's on the Ozone layer, that way every time you upload something to it it will also fill the hole of the Ozone
wont they only run on your gpu then though?
what.. like subscript? ๐
why is that an issue
or displace the ozone layer
I approve
true true
how does blender's eevee do it? it barely compiles , instanced stuff? precompiled stuff just for your machine?
eh
while(1)
{
OzoneLayer++;
}
problem solved
And now the earth has become a gas gia... star... black hole.
i heard it does still compile stuff, unreal just seems to compile a lot
screw you, performance of C++!
is Unreal engine made with machine language? if not RealEngine would be more optimized
blender does it in the background?!
you can still preview and it's super quick
maybe because bare minit features
minimum*
yeah unlike cycles
I wonder how they achieved it
apparently ue just decides to compile all the shaders
and thats why it takes so long
Yes. It sounds like p-fist.
maybe just p. fist
Like an initial.
Yeah basically.
Lol
Are you guys Half Life fans?
Punching Fist
P. Fist
yes
Say it like you say G Man.
no
G Man โ P Fist
that's interesting
as long as it's only one p, ok
๐ฌ ๐จ ๐ ๐ต ๐
I might lose to the G Man. He's pretty OP.
but you're O Pf
-ist
yes
lol
It's based on my real name, but pronounced differently.
My boss gave me the nickname when I worked at GameStop in college, so blame him.
If you're a Marathon fan, it's NOT pronounced like "pfhor".
Pee-Fist, got it!

i allways read it like puhfist cant unread peefist
should read my name as ... oooown niiii naaaaaaa toooooorrrrrrrrr
niiiii as in the knights of niii
how are you even supposed to pronounce pfisterer in a not wrong way
I'm sometimes fantasizing about throwing my computer out of the window
I too dream about throwing your computer out the window
seems like you need to hire an accountant
do you not have a pc?
unreal is too busy focusing on comic sans to get insights
does that make it an R?
lol its actually unaccounted
DECLARE_GPU_STAT_NAMED(Unaccounted, TEXT("[unaccounted]"));
but its only used on something named GraphBuilder
so why they just didnt type "graphbuilder"
if it's unaccounted before it's accounted, then doesn't that make it accounted once it's inference is complete? In which case, I am calling that stat out for being a liar.
i burned a computer once... dont recommend it
it burns really good, but some nasty smoke comes off it
doubt
mobo burns like a mofo
nah it really burns on its own
what's the "correct" term?
once a mobo burns it really burns
i think its those print plates
we call it Super Bleifrei Euro 95, isn't that cute?
and there's even different ones
yea
yea the general term is Benzin in german, too
the other one is how it's sold at gas stations (petrol stations?)
Ben zee nuh
well benzine is more like the chemistry name
well not really but sorta
gasoil is kind of a good name for it too tho
ppl often dont realize its the gas that burns and not the oil... big mistake
if i recall correcty i tossed the pc on a bbq and it burned green flames
nasty smoke came from it
i think i like gasoil best... i just made it up
gasoil is a thing
oiloline?
Gasoline has one of the lighter specific gravities compared to others like it.
French chap discovered it or whatever, back in 1800's I think. Petroleum came a bit later. So we can't blame the USA for reinventing words for the sake of it ๐
in texas they just sold the burning ground cuz the cows didnt like burning ground
some smartypants thought... hey im gunna buy and sell the burning ground
i can sell burning computers and pianos.. but i wont make a profit on it
and you have to sell them fast
No. My name is Nick, not Philip. lol
Nick "Not Philip" McPfist
you just doxxed yourself gradually
thanks for taking the joke seriously
we all know his real last name is actually Von Pfistenheim
he's actually the ruler of the iron pfist
pfisty McPfist
so excited for my game to hit steam playtest soon
yeah
sadly only 10 subs
my small fan group hasnt really been good at following our SM
what have you tried so far to boost engagement?
can never go wrong with a call to action
atm were doing contests and twitter, downside is um funding everything with a fixed income
disability fixed income
its me and my dev doing almost all the work
my job is story, production, planning, marketing, and problem solving, they code the game
yeah it sounds like a real pain budget wise
i also pay for any assets needed, publisher fees and what little i can afford from freelancers
contests don't have to cost much, can just be game keys
yeah
or even something like a $5 amazon giftcard
atm were having one for players to name a planet
like one of the big planets in the game you can fly around
so far winning name is:
Flubbottom
cash giveaways might be something
Flubbottom is a good name
problem im running into is that im terrible at social media
never used it till the last year
Stalgorn would be my vote but only if it was a harsh environment
at least not for anything outside discord
that's what will get ya :P
(join the fan group and submit the name)
im really good at lore
and do lore AMA sessions weekly
ask anything about the universe and ill respond with an official explanation within an hour
its been a GREAT way to get some of the community involved and helps flush out lore that i didnt think of
from what i researched into social media marketing you want to post in peak hours, where the most users are active. Each platform tends to have their own window of a few hours of peak activity.
Then from there it's just trying to boost engagement, interacting with other names, using the right tags to boost yourself in search results, and frequent posting.
Fun thing about marketing is that there is no one size fits all so when the numbers are in your favor run with it until you figure out your target audiences attention span then just keep trying new things until you see the results you want
honestly a big part of it will be when we have 0.0.2 to release as a public demo
i have also read that teaser screenshots, and short gifs do well, as they grab attention a lot more.
100% free to try the earliest version of the game that actually builds
yeah gifs are fun
You want to start that marketing campaign at least 90 days out and include the cool stuff
even for a small indie 90 days isnt enough. You want that steam page up for months to build wishlists.
0.0.5 expected in july
yeah and having a demo people can try out for free will help
and they can see the progress
its just a numbers game of hoping you get an influx of interaction, and the more interaction with others so that you are visible, as well as posting at peak times boosts those chances
This is the part where I recommend a post bot or something so you donโt have to do a lot of cutting and pasting. Focus in on your engagements and such
yeah
honestly my finances are expected to get better in the next few months so that should help
making some trailers and promote them on SM
On that note be careful who you spend money with. And from my experience doing music YouTube commercials actually do work
yeah we have a really good musician
dad runs a whole hobby orchestra and they make and record music for us
60 piece orchestra
Oh and one more thing consider where you go to find things you want, and consider that your target audience also has trusted sources on where they go to be exposed to things they might want to buy or play
yeah
Nice thatโs a win for sure
it really is
this sort of music
it solves SO MUCH
just a random pull from the like 80 tracks we have
6 years, 3 concerts a year....
is releasing on other platforms worth it? or is sticking with steam best?
like the other 2 i was looking at was epic and humble
once we have more of a game built
It all depends, Iโve never released a game so I canโt say for sure, however from what I could find out different platforms have different rules and such so if you make an update to your game you have to make sure it adheres to both sets of standards or whatever
yeah
steams pretty lax
epic seems to more want finished games or very close to finished
and humble doesnt seem to really care as long as they get their cut
my first release game is more a facepalm
it did meet its goals though
#1 taught me about steam and its release systems
#2 net zero/net positive cost
its now $1, hour long asset flip with some fun systems
i mean it took weeks to make it, but the whole thing takes like an hour to play through
Thatโs about right though, people spend 4 years making a game you can beat in 20 hours so no big deal
As long as you get experience I think thatโs best
I wanna do dev as a job for the sole purpose of learning the process of releasing something
Thatโs someone you definitely want to have on the team
i have one godot and one unreal project
the godot guy also does UI and web design so they have more ability
reach i should say
the unreal guy is doing maricles
im not a coder, just doesnt click with me
but i understand enough to figure out WHAT needs to be done, just not how to do it
and figure how to make the desired mechanics work
Thatโs good, a lot better than being the โso I have this great idea for a game I just need you to do all the workโ guy
oh yes
i know exactly what needs to be done, how things should look and "feel" and i can make the entire story outline, and work out how to figure out a way to do X without re-inventing the wheel
"if it works it aint stupid"
Right on ๐
just cant wait to have a product i can hand out
helps you get a bigger following with tangible stuff
and then i can build some cool combat
In due time at least you have a track record of releasing stuff
yeah
though not exactly stuff that might want to be released
mainly because im stuck with flighty revshare devs who expect $$$ fast after release
at last the new guy seems to understand it takes some real time
Takes money to make money, never forget that
oh yes
hopefully things really do get better in a few months and i can start allocating more cash to development
god "a new idea for cool game" is SOOOOO tempting
demotivating
realistic
still demotivating
the goal though is to build a game that players want to replay after those 20 hours
if people take 20 hours to finish it that's fantastic, I was thinking of 2-3
haha
same
but then ive been planning my game for almost 18 months before a single line of code
and slotting it into a decade long lore project
tbh 20 is alot
it is
I created a post about #statetree channel might be a good idea at #969360633386655744: #1053174219225190490 message
If anyone thinks the same, could mention it or put an emoji to the post
My Reddit recap lmao
lmao
Meanwhile I'm now a moderator for the official MJ subreddit

It seems you like MJ
I hope that's the Michael Jackson subreddit
Midjourney
MJ was pretty lively on his deathbed.
Fantastic!
fantastically awful!
Why? Children get a cool new book.
children deserve better
That's actually pretty cool
โItโs also flat and boring,โ Dom added. โAll readers deserve rich, imaginative stories โ with childrenโs stories, especially. They serve to entertain, as well as educate.โ She said that Reshiโs book failed in those regards.
she is โconcerned that the use of AI in creating stories will create a proliferation of poor-quality stories, both on the writing and the illustration side.โ
Especially stuff for kids, you are forming a person visually and emotionally, you have to curate what you create
Undoubtfully it's cool, but used as a tool, not a rehash out of the backs of thousands of artworks (and without consent on top)
lol someones not been paying attention
Great, more anti ai propaganda
I'm sick of seeing on twitter already
not sure how I should feel AIs mostly act more mature than average of people
( beta.character.ai discord integration )
Unfortunately its easier to take down the competition through influencing peoples opinion than just raising the bar
Yeah, it's honestly sad to see it
Most argument come from people with zero understanding of how machine learning and diffusion models work, some of the arguments are painful to even read
People can like it or not but AI is here to stay, and it's only gonna get better and better
I commented on one the other day, this artist claimed she used a site to check if her art had been used to train AI. I took a random image off her site and put it into that same site, not a single image looked remotely similar and it gave me a match of 77% which Id say is on par with someone painting something similar without ever having seen your work.
The way she was going on about it was like they'd stolen it 1:1 which clearly was not the case at all
If it's shit, don't buy it. The reviews will say whether it's good or not. If you're a parent and you just buy whatever, you don't deserve good things.
Thing of it is the music industry is getting very bogged down because of AI on the other side used to check beats. It takes a long time for published music to get checked for possible copyright issues now. I would hate to see this happen in every industry where you need to check every pixel to make sure they arnt too similar or corpo AI will issue take downs
โItโs also flat and boring,โ Dom added.
Where is this from? It's not on your linked page.
I mean the take downs are so aggressive Sonys manage to take down itself a few times lol
Average hype
So what...still valid artist's opinions
I can't take anything from BuzzFeed as valid
Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one.
And they're usually full of shit.
Getting death threats over a children's book is so retarded.
Well I hope you can get it one day
I do feel slightly bad for artists that are complaining and might lose jobs but my compassion goes out the window when I see how toxic they've become, no rational thinking, just toxicity, threats, raiding ai servers, etc...
You hope I can get death threats?
wait until chatgpt replace laura jk
Might be improvement for them.
i am pretty much sick of "oh no chatgpt will steal my job
" vibe too
Man I can't wait for AI singularity, I'm waiting for that moment when it becomes a thing
Anyway, it is the dawn of AI and ppl will start to adapt.
Like someone (I forget who) has been saying. Technology gets better. It replaced human manual workers first, now it's replacing artists. Deal with it.
Im not talking about death threats, I hope you get the criticisms these artists point out
I do not rely on the opinions of those negatively affected by something. They are obviously going to be biased.
Most of the criticism is completely irrational because they are scared, not to mention no understanding of what diffusion models are
I also don't read the first review on buzzfeed and instantly agree with it.
But that makes you biased ๐
You should employ critical thinking when dealing with things - think about the information, the source of it, the angle they are trying to put forward, whether the information is tested/testable, etc.
I'm biased against biased people. Absolutely.
It might sound cruel but technological advancement shouldn't be stopped and won't just because some people will lose jobs
The history is repeating itself
well information of small portion of it can test humans if they are ready to take full information
Do you respect artists?
The ones sending death threads, raiding servers, etc... No
That's a gross generalization
the art station case teh worrysome is that ai generator tool might steel artist content without permission
But it's fine I know programmers struggle with these things ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Of course. I don't take their views on faith just because they're artists, though. I don't know them personally. I'm not going to blindly agree with them because they complain about something.
What generalisation?
Look at twitter, Reddit, AI servers etc... And see how peacefully they are protesting
There is no legislation telling what is good to feed AI to, nor there is for branding an AIs output as such.
Therefore, chaos and war ensures.
Is there for music? Like what is fed to AI music generators
something new the legistation always lack behjind
Its funny though I dont see programmers complaining as much as artists even though every bit of public code on github has been used to train AIs
I dunno, never heard of one. Nobody talks about it so much yet ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
That happens on everything on social media
Yeah that's the funniest part
And I'm sitting here not worried at all
If anything I'm gonna take advantage of it and make my job easier
something of simply copy protection if you look halo infinity forge for example
That's not an excuse for absolutely disgusting behaviour
Many of them have shown
I just feel like images have been locked down too much, water marks and copyrights on every photo even the most mundane stock stuff. I certainly think people should be able to protect their work but collaboration and openness is a big part of community and the internet in general.
Its good publicity, thats why Microsoft support open source much more than they ever have. If you close off your art you'll never really get known since that word of mouth can help. Oh this style, Im influenced by artist X
Also artists can opt out from training for both SD and MJ
would they if they dont know?
I mean the stable keepers were probably mad when cars took jobs from horses, you can't stop progress though
AIs can just remove the watermark ๐
I just remember the older internet when people were much less worried about that sort of thing. Image searches were far more useful and didnt require complex equations to remove all the ads
I mean they can now instead of screaming on Twitter
But the problem is that AI being trained on art is just an excuse, they are against AI generators in general
yeh but can dead artists opt out of being training data in human art classes?
bad experience can make it happen
their whole argument for wanting to be out of AI training data fails because human artists use training data too and there's no restriction for them
That's the thing, the training processes is very similar between humans and AI
So I find the whole "AI looked at my images" argument ridiculous
Not really. The Speed and capacity is totally in different scale.
It is but the process is the same
AI learns to associate pattern with tokens/words, exactly what human brain does
Just a lot more images at once
the worst part is that people don't understand that all these "AI"s that we have now are just fancy curve/pattern finders..... they're just a fuzzy math version of line regressions
We must cancel art history lessons, they are the devil ๐
And it does it way more efficiently
I'm not sure wdym by process, but there is enough difference so to warrant different POV when considering a human vs AI learning. They have different capabilities.
I think the biggest one though is if the AI can generate your style quickly, why the hell wouldnt you use it to make your own process faster?
ok the capabilities are different but the method is the same... so you're saying gifted humans should dumb themselves down to average to be fair too right?
I'm referring to the learning process, both are performing pattern recognition on the most basic level
No thanks Im not gonna take the train, I'll walk... Train people got there first waaaah!
Human artists are heavily influenced by other art they studied too
You are saying that, lol
I said, they are different. A machine performs in a different way. Can you memorize the whole Wiki? Or compute numbers for microseconds? Can you take decisions fast? etc. This also reflects the "artistic" tasks too.
Some humans can.
Plenty of people who study business talk about how humans can only make a limited number of decisions. Offloading the work to AI cant be all bad right?
call it distributed rendering ๐
I'm sure you aren't thinking about this all the way through... your body makes complex computations subconsciously all day. None of that matters here though.
My eyes count as two GPUs, bridged.
I'm not sure it actually makes any calculations.
It just knows "if I send signal x, this will happen... and that is good."
What are you even saying?
same thing with nerual nets
I'm saying if we call those calculations then the same applies to the brain
Why limit ourselves to what our bodies can do when we can augment our capabilities with AI?
On the MJ server I had a chance to listen (it was an event) to a traditional artist that is using AI in his workflow, that's what good artists will do and the augmentation I'm talking about
Human can do so much, I'm not putting any numbers here. Computers can do with different throughput and scale. These are facts. We are talking about art tasks say here. Or just anything in general. Nobody is saying humans should be thrown out or computers. Just facts, they perform in different way and capacity.
Cyberpunk ain't so far maybe ๐ค
The AIs we are talking about are just networks of weighted connections.... they aren't running traditional code so talking about what normal code can do has no relation to this conversation.
If doing something on such a neural network counts as a "calculation" then doing the exact same thing in the human brain must count as a "calculation" too. And your brain does countless of these all the time without you realizing.
Limiting the conversation to what you do consciously is only looking at a tiny slice of what's going on.
I'm starting to feel like it's close than we might think ๐
It's not gonna be long before we are discussing here basic AI rights lol
I'm not sure what you are trying to say, or what argument you have against what I said about humans and computers being different.
I'm saying they aren't that different in capability or function
Because it is all quantum soup?
The main difference between human learning and AI, other than scale, is that you can take that learned data and give it away.
If that matters at all.
How different is different between performing daily or specialized tasks?
Saying they are not so different, prove it?
we can also train realtime, most AI can't or purposefully doesn't
I saw a journo working for ABC looking for people to talk about how AI art has opened doors to them because they are disabled and physically cant do traditional art
they are literally modeled to be similar
what do I need to prove? that's their intention
The number of doors opened is significantly less than those closed, though, Mons.
(speaking of which I got my MRI scans and have to say it's kinda weird seeing what's inside your head)
Also a question... What do you clasify as "you" in you, your body? Do you think of your brain as "you", or something else
If you think about it we are just squishy blobs piloting meat mechs ๐
nah, there are way more people that can't draw than can draw... all of them have the door to making their own art opened now without needing to learn if they even could
I bet they used AI to filter the MRI results to clean em up
I had a really hard time accepting and understanding that "me" will come to an end someday
Yeah I've seen a lot of stories from people with disabilities
but now they have you scanned from the inside out they can make terminators with your likeness ๐ฑ
"You" is the current arraignment of neurons in your entire nervous system, their current state, and the emergent consciousness phenomena
...imo
Anyone can draw. They just haven't learned how.
It's not hard if you have a good teacher.
so basically you exist one moment at a time and only while alive
I'm pretty sure they use AI to even look for stuff that shouldn't be there too
what if you have a motor disease and can't move your hands... what if you're blind... what if you just don't have limbs?
I would be weirdly ok with that ๐
You are saying that they are not so different. Therefore, I can agree on that only in specific and certain cases. There is so much you can find likeness. Many solutions are modeled after the nature around us, including humans, but that does not mean these solutions have the same capacity and performance. As I gave you simple example, lets talk practice - compute fast numbers, connect to internet, or about AI - draw 100 pictures a second.
Yeah that's a difficult thought to grasp
I'll be back!
those aren't things AI does faster than humans.... those are things traditionally coded programs do
Drawing midjourney pictures?
Creating chatgpt texts?
When I blacked out like 8 months ago, when I knew I'm gonna fall unconscious I was weirdly ok with that, just kinda accepted it, it's a very weird moment
midjourney isn't as fast as you think
yeh I get that... everybody gets that... it's just not that relevant to anything
I started with "capacity and performance is one of the important differences".
Then you started to argue, they are not so different.
right and this is me disagreeing with that statement... it's not important... it is a difference
The funny thing is the consciousness is still a big mystery, some recent research apparently shows it might involve quantum mechanics in some way
It is pretty important for all these artists and writers and whatnot. Go tell them.
