TBH I'm still not sure how to handle dead party member, considering it's an action JRPG. Currently I have party member get down to KO state when HP reaches 0, but have grace period for player to resurrect him/her before he/she is declared dead or get executed by the enemy, and ending the game.
I'm not sure if I should go with that.

I'm thinking about implementing grace period. FF15 has a mechanic where if Noctis hits 0 HP, player have a small grace period to pull out Phoenix Down before he died and game over, but in that time everything around him would freeze.
And I'm also planning for finishing moves (and I'm targetting 17+ age rating anyway, so it'll be lots of violence), so if player can do that to a dying enemy, maybe the enemy can do the same to dying player character.
Dieter suggested difficulty settings, so perhaps on harder difficulties, grace period will be shorter and enemies getting more aggro
