Pavlov VR uses UGC and all users need to do is download 4.21 from launcher and their mod kit from github, no custom engine needed

I'm not sure how they did it I'm sure there's a guide or epic has something on it somewhere. They make all the "proprietary" stuff in C++ and somehow don't include the files so you can't read them and steal how they work, and make all the moddable stuff in blueprints. So they include some base BPs for weapons and stuff like that and somehow it's compatible when their plugin uploads it to the server

I was more thinking something like a course directed by someone in the industry who’s experienced and can provide the tie-in between editor / engine and the game context.
A proper course/set of lessons. So that you’re not just reading docs and having to figure out the “ties” yourself without guidance as to where thing A could potentially apply to things X, Y and Z

Yeah I might actually do that. I just finished a deep dive into the medieval environment and watched all the videos about that
It helped me greatly in understanding landscape materials, building assets from quixel bits and bobs and a huge deal about splines
Ended up using that as inspiration for my own spline system
Plus the profiling video was absolute gold when it comes to figuring out what’s tanking my frame latency
To absolutely no-one’s surprise: TSR just flat out eats up 2.5-3 ms
Tbf that’s still a fairly acceptable cost considering how much worse things would be without it
I’m just too into the new stuff to do that. I wanna utilise real time GI and nanite as much as I can.
And then optimise the sh out of it and see if I end up in a state where someone with a 1080 can play
That would probably be my absolute lowest target
It is very exciting to be able to build a game and be realistically able to aim to ship eventually as a one person “studio”

You could do it with some scope constraints and just being clever with how you do this. For instance, my level needed some powerlines, all in a spline, I just pulled in quixel assets and built the “mesh” and that was that. It didn’t exist before and now it does. And it works in my systems and nanite applies to it.

Well I found out the hard way that splines that deform meshes don’t work on nanite. I only found that out after taking a 3x3km landscape with a complex landscape spline and populating it with a high poly complex dirt road mesh I thought would just let nanite “handle it”. Nope.

Same thing with foliage. There’s a shadow cache setting for foliage that when enabled basically steals 4ms of frame time for me.
You’d never know until you’ve gone through every little bit and tried to toggle it on/off to see if it helps while being conscious of side effects and caveats

Spline meshes are kinda situational yeah... hard >=90 degree corners are not something they handle very well either which is kind of annoying

Tip: set the nanite fallback % to something really really low on your meshes, do your spline thing and then set it to 100% once finished. Then convert that spline to a static mesh. PITA but works.

Used microsoft's website to download Windows to a USB stick but the computer doesn't show anything when I start it up and I've tried spamming F2-11-12 and delete. When you get it just look up the POST error beeps for your MB manufacturer
there's a handful of standards
but the combo of short and long beeps will tell you what failed
and no beeps means no power or dead MB
