Just in case somebody familiar with assembly/machine code/PE files is hanging around in #lounge at the moment.

it's been a while but I'm somewhat familiar with x86 assembly

and in general, each instruction can have multiple different operand lengths

there are different opcodes for the different variants though, so I think you can grab a crossreference book and work it out that way, IF you have the compiled file and not the raw assembly (if raw assembly, it should be obvious)

assembly embedded in C, now that's a whole different beast I don't know

Currently reading the instructions from .text section of an existing .exe file, mostly just a hello world made in fasm.

Reference said it can work both, depending on the 'operand size attribute', but I'm not sure how to read the value of this attribute.
It seems to be 32bit at the moment, but I'm not sure why it's 32 bit.

ahh, look just up from the 0x68 on the ref.x86asm.net one, and you see 0x66 and 0x67, operand size and address size override prefix

you'd have those in the assembled hex before the instruction to specify which

so, you won't see it in the actual assembly code, but it's in the hex

the assembler would know from the operand you specify

so if you need 32 bits, pad appropriately, otherwise it'll probably do a 16 bit push

that was fun, haven't screwed with assembly in a while, thanks!
