Hello. My name is Ferdi. I have been developing myself in game design and development with great passion for 12 years. At first, I started by making 3D designs. We tried to develop games with people I met over time. Most unfinished business, of course. Over time, I developed myself in the technical aspects of 3D design related to games and game engines. 6 years ago, I started to learn unreal engine with very little software knowledge. In this process, there was a gap full of financial and life problems, where I had to stay away from the computer for 3 years. I've dealt with dozens of jobs away from game development. These follow-ups had positive effects on my social life.
I learned that my friends with whom I played games in 2010-2014 quit their profession 2 years ago and entered the game design and development business with all their knowledge. At that time I was working as a cleaner in a warehouse. And they offered me a higher salary than my country's average wage. Although they were very successful people in their fields, it was not long before they started to develop their skills in gaming. When I joined them for 1 year, I prepared models for the game projects they were currently developing. I trained myself a little more on Zbrush and did my best to improve the quality of the models.
1.1.5 years after the team's first meeting, their financial savings started to decrease and we stopped our game project and started developing games outside. These projects were generally online casino games. The people we met in this part of the industry and the conversations made were often not very suitable for our team culture, but we continued so that we could continue to work financially. We made a business deal with a big online casino company in a different country and 3 of my friends went to that country. After a while, we would go as the people who were left behind.
The person we made an agreement with almost ignored our entire agreement and caused us to run out of our last remaining financial power for 4 months.
When they got the news of this breakup and informed me for a while, I thought things would go bad and morale would be low.
And in Unreal Engine, which I have been trying to learn and improve myself with great pleasure at every opportunity for the last 6 years, I decided to develop a small prototype that I prepared in my spare time about a month ago. This was my first project that I was going to start developing all on my own. I think I started in mid-March 2022. The project took shape over time. The idea was not original, but it is a game project in the style of "Vampire survivals", as we do not want to develop hypercasual games and we do not have enough financial and workforce.
The experience I've had since I first started the project has been incredibly satisfying to me personally.
Things have gotten worse over the last 4 months and the team is almost on the verge of disbanding. I worked full time on the project I developed, almost day and night, and my other friends were interested in other jobs. They were helpful from time to time as needed. They were in the process of continuous improvement in the planning and feedback parts.
Now the project is on the verge of completion, but we are the same 🙂
First of all, I may have dramatized what happened. I love my communication with my colleagues and the way we work. All we want is to be able to continue on the way we started.
Among my friends, I have friends who are very talented and experienced in the field of software apart from game development, are image directors and anthropology graduates.
In our country, investment in game projects is made in hypercasual games. Since we do not develop hypercasual or derivatives games, it has been incredibly difficult to find investments.
My question is: What can be done to survive and move forward in such situations?
The technical difficulties we faced were never intimidating. In general, the individuals or companies we work with or work with for a fee did not keep their promises and helped us to progress as a team over time.

I continue the project with the support of my family. As much as they can in my family, they know my passion for this job and my friends support me as they know it. But I have friends who are married. The problems caused by the fact that they channel their whole lives to this work bother me more.
Actually, this is not the end. In any way, our life can go on, but it is scary to lose the momentum and excitement we have gained and not be able to pick it up again.
As for hyper-casual game development. This is a solution for the current situation, but it makes more sense to focus on things that have already come to a point.

4- Either have a very small scope that you can build everything in blueprints or get very good at C++ so you can build a prototype on your own without being dependent on anyone

ISK was directly translatable into the cost of ships, so it's pretty easy to brag about the real world of value of combat losses, but there's no unpredictability in the game design beyond player behavior and server performance.
