Kind of a sad story at the start here, but when I was younger one of my parents passed away, and my lil brother and I both got 25k Canadian when we turned 18 from life insurance. I went to the bank and they just tried to sign me up for different finanical products. Still didn't know how to properly spend or divvy up the money in a useful way. I ended up spending it on day-to-day expenses, a 3 month backpacking trip in europe (2013, when the euro was at a low point lol), and 2 years of art school tuition + 1 year of board.

However I ended up dropping out of art school, and then had some debt.

The next time I went to the bank, the one advisor I met with just straight up told me they wanted to help me clear the debt, but then get me signed up for a mortgage lmao?????

From there I got into the IT support office fixing up pc's across the campus, then when the head of the office was sick for 4 months I took over his job running the office.

I'll try: Design really encompassed how I feel about approaching a work of art or using creativity in a technical way, the mathematical approach with rulers and measurement and arduous thinking, as opposed to the freeform, loose creativity of say, fine arts. But ofc the division isn't so rigid in practice, but in theory this is how it is. Design as I understand it means "To plan, to organize", and in a way this is what designers do, they create meaning by intentionally constructing imagery in such a way that it conveys specific ideas (which are often culturally-based, ie red means different things in the US vs China, seen for instance in the choice of wedding colours). In this sense Design is something more than the sum of its parts, ie its effect is greater than simply the sum total.

Idk where art felt like it was the realm of mysticism, Design to me feels like the art of a new age, a scientific age.

He does this thing where he pulls out a greenscreened character and puts them in the scene, so it's not really added in post. But you can do the weird camera shots or sometimes, he will just scan a human and be like: "Let's pull back, add some fog and make it fast and blurry. YEAH! That's ...well not great but a paycheck to be sure..."

So a lot like my programming...
