but they didn't notice ๐
more unity news:
https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/unity-signs-multi-million-dollar-contract-to-help-u-s-government-with-defense
we know you meant "really few"!
Unity is part of US army now?!
rip US army
nope, they're a subcontractor to a contractor
"part of" implies owned and controlled by
kan I haz?
will you be a part of me?
yeah kinda tiger level but just, 10% smaller
and insects?
do cats eat insects?
ohh
like gorillas eat a fk ton of insects
wait seriously
i think so
hmm, i mean, humans do eat insects as well i guess
but do they do it?
my cats catch and eat moths, flies, and butterflies when they're taking a break from their jobs of hunting and killing mice
you shouldn't watch it to improve on that...
I've always been disappointed with employer mandated harassment training. It's always focused on how to avoid, respond to, and stop harassment but never on the less-covered how to engage in effective harassment.
what is this aimed at exactly, you make games with less harassment?
there's no rewind in twitch I don't know what i joined at lol
yea
question of the day: whatchya listening to right now?
an air conditioner
sick music, 10/10
there's a subtle beat from the clothes dryer in the background
wish i was listening to your heartbeat ๐
this message is meant to be a joke
do you play any instrument?
not unless you count a DAW as an instrument
and i am quite certain that if you are into metal or something, you can get way too many recommendations here
oh i listen to...just about everything?
then, just wait for a while, when people are here you would certainly get it
metal, screamo, hardcore, Electronic hardcore, hardbass, country, dub, dubstep, phonk, future funk, synthwave, folk, tribal beats, pop, rock, hip hop
"we have technicians here making noise, they are not artists because nobody can play the guitar"
that's quite open yes ๐ค
80's thrash and speed metal
all of it more or less, its all saved on playlists and i put them on whenever im in the mood for stuff
speed metal is fun
megadeth, blind guardian, etc.
I haven't heard any of their stuff since at the edge of time
they started in the early 80's, 82 I think
either way though
Blood of the elves? insane
er
no im wrong lol
the album is called Violent Shadows
spotify does that thing where singles share the album cover
m y b a d
but yea, point is
tons of music
Man, Relic and SEGA opened up pre-orders for a physical collectors edition for Company of Heroes 3 a month after the digital ones -_-
pain
but I'm a simp cuz I bought it anyway, refunded the other one and ye here we are
Anyone know where I can go to find someone with a technical background to help me resolve my performance bottlenecks in my ue5 project?
Okay ill take a look there. I am def willing to pay for this, I really just need to pin point what is causing the bottleneck.
in that case check #instructions for finding the correct one
Well I have just started work on a game Iโm going to call destroy the houses
Basically the houses come to life and the windows are lasers
Does it sound like a good idea
@dense isle the idea sounds fun, but as mentioned before, execution is key
Meaning I better see skyscraper bosses that have lasers and missile launchers and you as the player need to scale the interiors to blow them up :P
And suburban homes that shoot lawn flamingos
For skyscrapers only tho
I am but for interiors and stuff just on skyscrapers
I can see it now, the player is a real estate agent who must defeat houses in glorious shadow of the colossus style combat
Lest potential homeowners are slaughtered by malicious houses
I'd play it. Sounds sick.
Well itโs going to take a while
Well future me will enjoy it :U
sounds a lot like the now-missing webcomic pandora's placebo
sounds like Manny's gameidea
i have no idea what either of those things are ๐
i just came up with that on the spot rofl
type and send !gameidea, check dms
manny sends random game ideas
A game about a horse with gifts that will stop at nothing to save your family. On top of that, you're the last person alive. ๐ค
then it's already too late to save the family
IKR?
Bad Manny
You are a baker in a courtyard. Armed only with a katana and your wits, you must become the president. Redemption chance: Success?
Katana shaped rolling pin!
plus it wouldnt be the weirdest idea.
i mean
Ki No Kuni II starts with ||You, the MC are the president of the united states on the way to a summit in manhattan before it gets nuked into oblivion, so you get issekai'd into another world and must help a small catboy king who is caught up in a coup||
Just realized... This means the horse is the boss fight.
the gifts are bombs
Oh I C. Judge, Jury, AND Executioner.
Manny is improving: A game where the world is dominated by yetis, and the last hope for humanity is a bartender with a scythe.
@deep copper
Was ben's scolding the reason you switch to handshake?
Here, I'll give you a compromise, high five should be fine in the correct context, have one ๐๏ธ
'murica
๐ญ Don't get me started on the SO garbage
There's no stack overflow presence for UE! How am I supposed to work? /s
I just type "fortnite" into the search here and copy all the stuff I find
๐ฐ Why didn't I think of this sooner!? ๐ค
VEEEERRRRYYYY tempting
There's a reason I haven't subbed to it yet
And that reason isn't poor quality
It's poor life decisions
XD
I'm legit thinking of using MJ to generate "movie poster" style art to plaster a creepy carnival with
Resistance is futile! I too must join the cult of MJ!
no idea when ben did that xD, but not just that i think
Guess who is likely producing something.
no-one probably
imagine though if something was produced that said "fuck gameplay" and required a credit card to complete the game. And they made it in the Diablo Universe. And made it a mobile only game before succumbing to pressure and releasing it for PC mastercard gamers to play along. And imagine Blizzard released it in all seriousness.
I heard Diablo sells well. Makes money which is the most important. If ppl spend, then they like the game ๐ค
naah they are just people with narcissistic spending habits
Making games for whales. New trend. Gachas basically.
I dont mind it honestly if the gameplay doesn't suffer for regular players
I always had this controversial opinion that I want anyone to play my games no matter if they can afford it, and if they can't they have my permission to pirate it. A lot of people threw shade on me for that opinion but I remember being a poor kid who thrived on games for happiness and couldn't afford a new game most months. When I grew up I spent thousands on games and console and pcs. What goes around comes around I say.
I know these times :/ So, I understand ๐
The stance the Darkwood devs took was "don't go to a grey market store and we're good."
We released a game once and it was pirated on a famous site. But they pirated the pre-release steam version and the game had a day 1 patch that fixed a bunch of vital stuff. So I did support on this famous piracy site for the game. People really appreciated it ๐
I think it depends, most of the games I used to play had a note included in the readme asking that if you were playing a pirated copy to consider supporting the devs down the line.
yeah
At the end of the day you really have to acknowledge the fact that it's going to happen, there simply isn't a way to stop piracy so all you can really do is make sure your product is legitimately worth buying.
I've bought every pirated game I enjoyed. I know that sounds awful that I pirated it in the first place but when the demo became a thing of the past I had to test games to know if I liked them or not. Of course this wasn't every game. You just know you're gonna enjoy some games and multiplayer games tend to get a buy if you are semi intested
That and make sure purchasing is actually a good accessible investment, there have absolutely been games that are objectively worse in their official release. I own American McGee's Scrapland but because it has Starforce I wouldn't put it within ten feet of my computer in a million years.
does that even work anymore?
I'm not willing to find out.
I do know at least as far as some versions of Windows 7 and 8 it could corrupt your OS.
Raycevick mentions it in his video about Ubisoft's King Kong game.
yeah I was never a fan of old DRM. The new DRM is just as bad tbh. Another advantage of piracy sometimes. Like Resident Evil Village had severe FPS issues with denuvo. The piracy scene ripped it and the fps issues were gone.
tbh I think DRM is overrated from a developer standpoint
people that pirate your game are not likely to buy your game in the first place I think
look at the weird debate in #ue5-general
I didn't play Village at launch so I wouldn't know, but it could very well be DirectX12 jank as well.
holy cow
like if there was no crack, chances would be slim they play your game at all
what a morning
it depends on the drm. For some time the Denuvo games were not being pirated for upto 6 months after release. That is guaranteed extra sales. Whether it was worth the cost/time/manpower I dunno
The patches for RE2 and RE7 dropped performance severely, and AFAIK Denuvo is still absent from both.
But generally speaking I tend to agree, at least of my level of development any interest on my game would be a positive paid or not. Someone playing my game and not buying it would be as harmful as looking at the page and not buying it. Same monetary difference really.
The only thing I absolutely am 100% on board with is prerelease DRM, I totally get it if developers want to make sure reviewers don't leak out a build before the game is even out. It's kind of a courtesy to your players to keep a story based game under lock and key before they can even touch it.
@carmine frigate mona lisa example is bit off because copyright only protects the original piece from time the artist is alive and some predetermined amount of years from original authors death
how long that period is varies by the laws of the country afaik
wikipedia says it can be from 50 to 100 years
this is why you are free to use old audio recordings and pretty much most of the known classical music arrangements without paying anyone for it
yeah public domain
tho disney has lobbied to extend copyright in the US significantly
yeah, there were some works that concern disney characters recently that fell into PD
yes micky mouse will enter the public domain in 2024
or maybe you're talking about winnie the pooh?
cause that one entered public domain, like the original one
but the disney exact depiction is still protected
@stiff crystal yea most recordings of old songs in public domain are itself not public but belong to the person that played it
also you are allowed to make an imitation of a recent artwork aslong as you sign it yourself
plagarism
and it has to be different enough from the original
well you are allowed to make it as close as possible
that would still be infringing copyright afaik
if you make an exact copy, that's illegal
no doesnt have to be diffrent
i mean, many song lawsuits happen if they sound similar enough right?
this is why I said about the arrangements.. of course if you have a recording that is newer than what falls into PD by copyright laws terms, you can't use it
like if there's a recording of a symphony from last year, obviously you can't use it even if the original author of the symphony itself died 150 years ago
the whole music copyright thing is a complicated mess for newer content
ye
like you can't really produce music anymore that doesn't have same melody as some previously made content so they have all kinds of rules on how long duration you can have for the same sounding part etc
I would argue repainting a painting exactly is reproduction
reproduction usually means mass production in this context iirc
Yeah like you could do a master study of it, for learning, but dont sell it ofc
that's my point
mb
it has to be different enought to be considered yours before you can sell it
yeah
US copyright defines that as:
Section 107 of the 1976 Copyright Act are four elements courts must consider when determining whether fair use is an adequate and applicable defense: (1) the purpose and character of the work, (2) the nature of the copyrighted work, (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
there was this weird case with eiffel tower on this topic... https://www.slashgear.com/your-night-time-eiffel-tower-photos-are-copyright-violations-09354716
this is really weird one
because it makes very little sense
so how do you exactly figure out what's okay and what's not?
you let a judge decide
that's why copyright is often times ignored if it's about small enough issues
I was quite the petty teen, I reported all the eiffel towers at night on deviant art and got them removed XD
I really wish building copyrights were less strict
because if you don't actively defend your Trademark you can lose it
because it's silly that we can't like have known buildings on our games without permission but if we were to film a movie there, it would be fine
it's kinda case where it's just more of copyright laws not being up-to-date with modern world
they also have to get permits often times though
yeah there are some really famous structures
like you can't just film a commercial product in the coliseum for example
or that Jesus statue in brazil
<-- so how's the copyright work for this emoji
that's been in many films tho but people have tried to prevent it
it's my face
bottom line is... if it's in the gray area, you just want to avoid it unless you have army of lawyers
I don't have copyright on my face
or if u just want to toss a hissyfit
Don't tempt a hungry lion
whoever made the emote would have the copyright
original IP is more valuable anyway
but it is using my likeness so I think I could get it taken down if I wanted
wait really?
you do have copyright on ur face
yeah dieter has to agree to having his likeness used
copyright only applies to man-mad creative ventures
So, we can get all these AI textures from the MP for free?
okay so, mona lisa painting, if mona lisa wanted they could've taken the painting down, but the painter owns it otherwise
there are laws on photography for people where you focus on their faces
like, you can't publicly photograph peoples faces only and share them
I mean without their permission
yeah, but that's not copyright
yeah it's not
so wait
okay so bodies are okay?
the photographer always has copyright
usually you can't be photographed in places with a reasonable expectation of privacy
but if you're in public...
the picture could have privacy concerns though
there was a commercial where they made some guy that looked like a famous footbal player wear the shirt with number of said player
that doesn't add up with the copyright understanding?
if the person in picture is not the main thing, it's generally considered ok
it's like that one court case where a nature photographer was fighting for copyright over his picture with the monkey of the picture
so other ppl might own the rights to a verry similar face
because the monkey took the camera and actually made a selfie
I think the monkey actually won the case
Between 2011 and 2018, a series of disputes took place about the copyright status of selfies taken by Celebes crested macaques using equipment belonging to the British nature photographer David Slater. The disputes involve Wikimedia Commons and the blog Techdirt, which have hosted the images following their publication in newspapers in July 2011...
yeah legal battles ๐คท
ok the photographer actually won
but fo real tho
come up with original Intellectual Property
document it early on
and then boom you're fine
In a separate dispute, PETA tried to use the monkey selfies to establish a legal precedent that animals should be declared copyright holders.
does PETA not have anything better to do
so the monkey can't hold copyright cuz monkeys/animals don't really have rights per se?
Not sure legally correct or not, but that's a dangerous precedent to say actually.
Probably better say you own copyright of your face and likeness, until the court prove otherwise.
well, human rules should be guidelines for humans, monkey should make their own
we have copyrighted our laws for ourselves
innocent until proven guilty huh
PETA has something better todo
killing dogs and cats
PETA is a major funder for this
So why did xavier get banned
and it doesnt matter wich animals or what background
as soon as the animals arrive in the shelter
they might get killed.
PETA funds it.
PETA in general is absolutly horrible
PETA is practically just a joke rn lol
extremely woke too
kid wants a puppy... kid doesnt want to walk the dog
does he wants to walk a puppy?
its kinda weird but my one buddy was saying that deer populations actually do better when there are wolves to put pressure on the herd, so ironically nature just kinda be metal ngl
for a week like most kids toys ๐
and some rewilding efforts in the US are looking at reintroducing wolves and beavers
natural selection made it the way it is now, the more we interfere the more we ruin it
if you consider humans a part of the animal warfare then it's all fair!
eh, I like to think of it like being the keepers of the animals, like a beastmaster or something lmao
kinda shifts things to a more conservation focus
idk
theres less insects each year
less birds
its weird times we living in
oh yeah, wasn't there stuff we could do to make mosquitos go extinct, but we didn't
makes me think of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? where the protagonist wants an electric animal really badly, one thats super life like cuz most of the real ones are goners
been awhile since i've read it tho
yeah
mosquitoes are a wierd one cuz I think you can actually remove them from the food chain without impacting too much but idk how true that is (haven't fact checked it)
cuz lots of stuff eats them so idk
it would be kinda nice if we could remove them haha
agreed lmao
what animal do you prefer btw?
Idk I've never really owned one or anything but I really like Chinchillas lmao
cute little fast bois
yeah okay i gotta search that one xD
prolly wouldnt be good if mosquitoes went extinct
such difficult spelling
yeah its a south american rodent iirc
now if u could just donate them a liter of blood to leave me alone... that would be great
but they need big cages to move around in, tall cages too so they can climb stuff
omg, these are adorable!
You mean something like this?
https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/12/14/504732533/to-fight-malaria-scientists-try-genetic-engineering-to-wipe-out-mosquitoes
yeah i think so
i recall disney also did things to get rid of mosquitos around their disney park
altering mosquitos
g e o e n g i n e e r i n g
that totally sounds like disaster
new nano bots
lay it on us, how is this mad scientist esque idea bad?
yea.. thats how zombie movies start ๐
what if we breed african bees with european bees and get the best of both worlds ๐ฎ
well no, like I said copyright only applies to man-made things, I have other rights on my face potentially, but not copyright
so i can copyright your face?
atleast its not the whole pumping the atmosphere with reflective particles to block light / cool the earth
who in their right minds wanted to do this
I'm no legal guy dieter, just stating it sounds like a bad precedent to say, words can be twisted to make it sound you waive your rights to your face and likeness.
Again, not a legal guy here, probably you know better in this case.
ohh, whatever you say will be held against you!
p l e a d t h e f i f t h
tho I think cloud seeding works so idk some geoengineering sounds crazy
but it worksโข๏ธ
and then earth gets too cold so we make it warm by burning it
the gel
burning the cloud
it would be cool if it had a turn on off switch
no, you can copyright a picture of my face, not my face
make an nft of it ๐
wait how's the law for manny in ue, public domain?
oh shi- its 4:24 am. I gotta go to bed ๐ฉ bye for now!
they license manny to you iirc
Do people really make that much profit from an nft?
I guess it fall under the engine license
i think its part of the included assets ye
no idea never tried
some people have made money from nfts
but some guy who bought an nft of the first tweet on twitter lost several million dollars after it sold for a fraction of what he paid for it
its kinda crashing with crypto
but also nft can be used for tax loss harvesting
and the economy is shiet so
since the wallets are anonymous
you could sell an nft you paid 2 million for for 3 dollars, to an anonymous buyer also being you
then you make almost 2 million loss
https://portal.productboard.com/epicgames/1-unreal-engine-public-roadmap/tabs/80-unreal-engine-5-1-in-progress here have some unreal goodness.
true ๐ค
in USA at least
thats 5d right there lmao
Sort of. Depends on the country you are in. There's definitely a concept of commercialising and licensing a person's likeness. Think football players etc
i wouldn't be suprised considering wash trading is a thing in crypto
and other white collar crimes
wallets might be anonymous, but cashing out isnt
yes, but that is not copyright
f crypto tho, the enviromental impact is staggering
go sleep already ๐
whats the environmental impact of Discord, or other social media, or driving a car, or farting.
True, but just wanted to clarify because the internet is terrible and loses all nuance and paints broad strokes. Just look at all the crazy takes around "fair use" on YouTube. You'd think copyright wouldn't even exist with what some people think fair use enables
discord makes people lazy and NOT do harmful activities like burning forests and killing animals, so discord is good for environment (if you consider the items listed as good)
Personality rights, sometimes referred to as the right of publicity, are rights for an individual to control the commercial use of their identity, such as name, image, likeness, or other unequivocal identifiers. They are generally considered as property rights, rather than personal rights, and so the validity of personality rights of publicity m...
crypto environmental impact is huge though
what...
Tell that to twitter artists
like wasting GPU!
GPU and electricity
It's affecting the poorer ones through higher electrical bill payments
well it's also just a waste really
also its a negative sum game ๐
power burned doesnt equal money made
i recall some said bit coin is eco friendly because no physical material , when it came out
yep, that's what it was said
Anyone here has an infamy status?
biggest waste is not the energy waste tho... its people staring at a graph all day... total wasted genetration ๐
doesn't feel like negative sum when it comes to economy.
More of "equal conversion". Make everything around you expensive, while you earn the money.
zero sum game.... ppl can only get out what ppl put in
zero sum personal.
negative sum if you include others non crypto-miners
ppl put a lot of energy into crypto... if no1 wants to buy there is nothing to take out
also if ppl stop mining it.. its instantly worthless
yep. But people wanted the money when mining
isn't crypto a security thing?
I forgot what it does
we will see this winter then power bill goes times 4... this does not make crypto more expensive... ppl like to link it to the cost to mine but this is far from true
crypto usually refers to cryptography ("a security thing") or cryptocurrency (not a security thing lol)
although in the word cryptocurrency the word crypto refers to cryptography :P
if europ stops mining the great firewall of china can take 51%
its not secure at all
Oh. I thought companies pay miners for using their GPU for security processing, through cryptocurrency
so crypto uses blockchain just to confirm currency/transaction process.
Nothing external... Just internal.
energy price went up a lot and crypto went down a lot
and if you have a transaction and someone else doesn't, something must be wrong
that's why if you have 51% of the power of the blockchain you can do anything you want
thats how linked it is to cost to mine... it isnt
cost to mine goes up.. price goes down.. less ppl mine... the chain gets unsecure
no
elaborate
Basically, which blockchain you are discussing?
any PoW crypto blockchain
Okay then. Btw, I heard bitcoin has kinda 3 major nodes? Or along the lines. kek
its really not so great at the thing it is supposed to do ๐
cant you guys use "unrealengine" or "unreal-engine" vanity server url?
!8ball you like vanity guy?
@soft night, :8ball: Very doubtful.
!8ball you know vanity sever url?
@soft night, :8ball: My reply is no.
Sounds like a scam.
!8ball today harvest organs from humans?
@slim atlas, :8ball: My sources say no.
@slim atlas, :8ball: Signs point to yes.
:((((
!8ball you like @slim atlas ?
@soft night, :8ball: It is certain.
๐ฅฒ
We definitly can do all that
Mooooods, unsolicited discord links o/
I'm not giving my crypto to randos!
Friend? Is that some foreign type of a ham?
Forbidden language.
So that's what a vanity url is?
A pretty url?
to Fiend
And here I thought it was some sort of site or software/app, I'm out of the loop. ๐
Imagine the amount of skin issues, lichens, bugs and etc.
youwould bein heaven
you are not alone
that's a very specific crowd either way though, only people that are pregnant and already have a child with them
but that's dangerous to leave them on a parking space, there are kidnappers and stuff
i think pregnant+child people are allowed inside stores usually
maybe the store is also oddly specific
Talking about being specific...
i have seen that one before, but still hilarious xD
yea, that's save worthy
In discord, is there a way to post code snippets? If so, how do you do that?
Tripple ` on open and then on close. Also you can always search on internet for how to do it.
I have a question, for those who don't mind chatting for a while
Why are gamedevs that work on fan games willing to work on a fan game for free and not with a team that would bring them extra capital?
I already have an answer, but I want to know if there are different opinions to this
Okay, but let's say that the mechanics of the game you're working on is the same
But instead of fan game, they would be part of a team where they can build a world together
Although I wouldn't be able to pay them right away, I would extend them a contract that states I will do so
And for the price we settle, and just to be clear, if would be the regular rate in the industry
So yeah, you're asking a person making a passion project to work on your project pro bono with no guarantee of a return... you're not going to get people.
No no, not pro bono
If you aren't paying them from day 1, it's working for free.
I was thinking more along the lines of paying them via crowdfunding
Or is that even worse?
๐
You are not Star Citizen, you will not get 10 bajillion from crowd funding.
Hahahahahahahah
And if you think you will, you need to hire people after getting the money.
Exactly!
Look
I'm just not motivated enough to work for free for somebody else.
Promise of payment or not.
To be honest, you sound like every other guy who has a game idea and wants people to make it for him for free.
What I'm saying is, I want to make sure that I have a team rwdyto start working after we've completed the funding
First of all
It just isn't feasable unless you have a solid game idea, publisher contacts, etc.
Second of all, I want to know what their rate is before launching a campaign
And a large pool of hobbyists who have no experience and will flake out after 2 months.
How do you guys propose I approach the subject?
You need to secure funding or have a reasonable expectation of funding.
You have neither.
How can I secure funding if I don't know what my team is going to charge for?
Secure more funding than you need.
Before I can launch a campaign, I need to establish a budget
This is sounding a lot like you haven't ever actually shipped a game as part of a team
If you want to secure good developers, expect ยฃ50-100k/year for 5+ years?
And to establish a budget, I need to know how each member is going to need
What you need is to know how much a team member is going to cost based on current salaries.
Okay, okay
It isn't just salaries though. Equipment, dev ops, taxes, and a whole lot of other overhead
Then you advertise for that job and start interviewing people.
(once you have the other stuff, yeah.)
Would people like sign up bonuses?
Just for equipment and software?
You can probably get away with a github project and a locally hosted perforce or something for not much money.
People would sign up and instantly leave if you didn't pay them - and keep their bonuses.
Okay, so:
-Get all legal business documents (Done)
-Get concept and timeframe (Done)
-Get the money (Pending)
-Get contracts (Done, edit based on team's requirements)
Anything missing?
Do you have a vertical slice demo?
Why would I need a publisher when we can publish it as a our own?
I guess you mean for marketing purposes, but besides that?
Kickstarter
Publishers make a living for a reason.
I wouldn't work with or fund anyone that doesn't have either A) An incredibly compelling vertical slice or B) An incredible impressive history of titles worked on and shipped
I'm also in a line of angel investors, but I'm skeptical of their intentions
Intentions are irrelevant if they give you money when you have none.
As long as they don't demand 90% of profits.
I'll be looking into investment funding myself soon. I'm a little skeptical of angel investors. I've heard of lots of project (game and non game) sabotaged by short term expectations of angel investors.
They most often want equity stake, which means their #1 interest is in the company getting sold to a bigger company ASAP
For real
I want to thank all of you, and I really appreciate all of the advices you've provided
Friends and family may also be an option, though I'm skeptical of it
I've heard you want to divest your risk into OPM (other people's money) as soon as reasoanble for the project
Friends and family aren't going to pay enough.
I usually don't mix with friends and family members
And you don't want them to lose out if your project fails.
Don't forget the Epic Megagrant
Exactly
Ah
I've heard of it
But I'm not sure I'll be able to apply for it
Some investors require that you've tapped friend / family before they will invest
Worst they can say is no
I plan on applying lots of places when my vertical is done
How would I get a yes then?
That's the issue ๐ช
Are there any good indie developer accelerator programs?
I know that I've had a word with you guys in the past
I've seen a few that are all about bringing foreign talent into their country
And I showed you my game, and talked about the issues we had when we released it a year ago
It's 70% done, that missing 30% is finishing the fighting mechanics
And updating the character models
Map is ready
Is it terrible I'm leaning towards using Manny in my vertical slice?
Nice.
Don't buy terrible ones? ๐
Is the model something you are showing off ?
Then use manny?
If you have a character model selection or osmething, perhaps show off that system by changing models?
Oh were you the guy that showed the big monster moving through the city turning all the buildings into cubes?
Turn one of the city scene things that came with UE5 into destructables ๐
turn lyra into a destroyable apocalyptic scene
idk license don't listen to me
oh cool
Does your replication system deal with replicated destroyed bits, or is it all dealt with locally? (just the buildings themselves are told to explode certain areas and the clients deal with the fallout)
So...
Let's say I need programmers to finish developing the fighting mechanics of the game
The gameplay is similar to that of Naruto Ninja Storm, Dragonball Kakarot, etc.
How should I narrow the numbers for the budget?
1 person is enough to work in that alone?
I guess the bigger bits get replicated and when they're small enough, the client deals with it?
Ah right. Neat.
Nice.
Is it a sort of voxel approach?
Cool

Why am I watching this?!
Because you have a deep and abiding love for minecraft videos
Obviously
Not really.
Me either. ๐คท
its insane
Is an IQ debuff.
give your brain to me, for safekeeping!
jokes on you
i am not a zombie so it should be fine
i do not know of any biological preservation methods
but i have heard, freezing helps!
so just putting that one cell in the freezer should be, pretty cool?
man the epic intern positions are currently WFH/remote ๐ค
tho you need a degree ๐ญ
.
a degree to be an intern o.o
my college requires me to get an internship to get a degree
it's okay ! but do check whether Farhenheit or Celcius
eh they don't say directly that you need one but the school boxes have a red asterisk next to them lmao
school right, just fill in any
any that you went to , ever
in case you didn't, home school counts?
Just not Kelvin, because it's not a degree!
the school selection box uses a pre-defined list and my school isn't on there >:U damnit ACAD (Now AUArts)
aha! so they aren't looking for scientists, that would be too qualified for intern
oof, just, oof
and they teach design >_<
what do they have on their? i am certain it won't be a complete list of every type of school
like, harverd etc?
hmm i didn't check for ivy league schools
it's remote so i am really not sure if it would be every uni in the world
that would be kinda weird to go through actually
under the FAQ on eligibility:
We focus on individuals beyond high school with 0-3 years of formal working experience. Experience in either tech or gaming industries is preferred. This ranges from undergrad, grad student, PhD, and recent grads, as well as non-traditional higher education. We hire both current students and recent graduates within 1 year of their graduation.
Man it was such a waste of 20k credential wise to go to art school lol
I learned all of the things but dropping out in year 3 did not help me
so either be a uni guy with 1 yr exp, or a normal high school one with 3 yr industry exp?
am i reading it right?
something like that
have i become too dumb recently or is everything just harder to understand now a days
...maybe i am just too tired
i really don't like any education body that offers a degree of any sort, sure you got the degree but. yeah idk
the govt. backing free student loans for everyone means Unis can raise tuition indefinitely, without any consideration for the overall economic enviroment. I'm sure in practice theres varyign amounts of actual fiscal management but some unis have def abused the situation
atleast in the US and Can
college in general is a scam, honestly. were it not for a paper that says "u no beeg dum dum", college offers very little that you cant get yourself
and college textbooks are a good indicator of how bad it is lol
i learned more on my own research then through a professor
specially true in Todays world
the only aspects of college ive ever used was some tutoring areas and the public services
library, access to science docs
comp labs
etc.
i heard US has it really bad with prices, students go into debt after it
according to this macleans article Design is the second most expensive subject by way of measuring average book cost
with Architecture in the lead
imagine kinda just studying on your own because the material provided is just that bad, and whoever makes the exam questions makes them based on material you weren't even told about lol
But I mean Cal Arts, RISD and a couple other high end design schools are all 50k USD/a year
and thats your competition -_-
why is design expensive? is it too fancy?
@deep copper its less "not told" and more that US education has become full meta where instead of teaching concepts and ideas, professors are just teaching exactly what should be expected on the final exam
and instead of giving room to practice what you learn or have a good grasp on the concept
Its closesly connected with the entertainment industry, and at the top percentiles it pays really well. Those professionals, when employed or contracted as teachers, demand pretty high salaries.
its just regurgitating memorized answers
even Feng Zhu, concept art heavy weight, setup his own school in singapore
its a fast track, 1 or 2 year programs
this works for say....math, where there isnt much wiggle room to solve equations
for a 3 year course i assume that's like a price of a house or something
but its still 50k singaporean dollars a year
for a 5 one it definitely should be
yeah...
most subjects dont work with this kinda strict answer system
$70,430 USD is for 2022-2023 for harvard
that's kinda nice then ,, i hope
In many ways yes, because you learn directly from working professionals unlike some schools where the teachers can't get jobs but still teach as a means to support themselves lmao
or the teachers have worked in the industry but not for like 5 years
is harverd that good?
Plus $35k for "expenses"
a*
You're looking at $110k/yr
damn eh
this is ESPECIALLY true for a tech degree. the only class i paid attention to was a tech security fundementals class where exams were describing an environment, the type of hardware being used and the goals of a client and we were just told straight up "so how would you go about this"
I wonder if the US army would pay for you degree at harvard, if you could get in, and if you served ๐ค
frickin slow message
they wont, they offer you higher end stuff sure but no ivy league stuff
so you do get some practical skills, alright
my little brother is in the marines and he basically said his pickings are slim as all hell
and connections. its a lot of who you know honestly
same reason old money can be so valuable
beyond the paper value
c o n n e c t i o n s
He should just focus on the killing
i remember hearing about some music uni, very pricy, so students drop out by year 3, nearly all, because they already made the necessary connections
don't jinx it
europe isnt.
probably Julliard honestly (in NY)
yeah and the marines are an expeditionary force
boots on the ground
i wish i could recall names easily ๐ญ
so peace time they chillin
semi-correct
they are boots on th ground but marines in general do all the strong legwork of the millitary
Interesting, TIL
marines also do shit like radar, tactics, vehicular stuff
you basically take an exam after basic and that(plus your basic scores) determines what you are eligible for
rolling for cryptography
the reason you only hear about boots on the ground CQC spec ops shit is because the marines are also the most toxic peer pressured branch in the entire millitary
i read that as cryptocurrency first, i have been brainwashed xD
my little brother skipped out on being a pog because he got convinced that being a grunt is the best thing ever
its the honorable thing, the thing with pride, blah blah blah
hazing so he takes the worst job
when his scores were near perfect and he could have had a cushy pog job -_-
pog = desk job basically? non-combat roles?
okay that's more brainwashed than my crypto deal rn
the military: you will SWEAT and BLEED for AMERICA and LOVE IT
desk work, working on actual jobs
IT security, weapons systems, engineering
repair, etc etc etc
the patriotism stuff in any place is always so, extreme, for soldiers
basically one of the 1 million other specialized things the military needs to function haha eh?
oh its brutal dude
beyond a fighting force
ye the army be like that tbh
this info is going into my "reasons to avoid army"
the ww2 generation (the greatest generation) seemingly had different attitudes but I'm sure it was different during the war.
actually if you got in and survived basic(which btw is harder then you think.)
and had good scores
a pog job is super super easy
ye basic is literally to weed people out haha
war creates pressure and need for revenge stuff ig
ye
and defence
during WWII america was also hyper patriotic.
ye
we had faith in the government and millitary and we did things for america
then nam happened
and we realized just how wrong we are and its been on a downward decline.
birth of counter culture
well the nazis were a legit bad guy, the west was just sailing on that high for too long i think lmao
nam?
seeing enemies in the reds
vietnam
ah
this conversation isnt about patriotism being good or bad or whatever
right right sorry, getting tangent-y
but when it comes to modern day millitary stuff
also discord is borking
SUPER hard
wtf
it was slowing my messages too?
and repeating shit
idk what its deal is
idk whats going on
i recall a few other people i talked with today had wack repeating messages
but yea when it comes to modern day millitary stuff, its on a downward trend and most jobs are being phased out for machines and non-direct combat
from what i understand doing my research
the millitary is gonna phase out boot troops more and more and expand specialized jobs
ye
IT people gonna make bank
Skynet here we come.
learn to code, live forever in the cloud
i hope it all becomes a robo vs robo someday and we don't have to get risky military people, but that's really never going away from the way it's going
the real problem is autonomous weapons platforms
ie hunter-killer drones that act on their own
its approaching Metal Gear levels of insanity
well actually theres a BUNCH of studies being done recently(within the last 10 years) suggesting we are becoming less and less war-based people
ye
francis fukuyama used to argue that war was dead cuz democracies don't start wars against one another
i mean, the general population, yes
Only because we have bigger deterrents.
and countries are being very cautious about helping ukraine or stopping russia because we dont really want anymore war
deterrents or not
war is less and less on the table
it will be inevitable, i mean come on
as long as two men exist on this earth, someone is gonna want someone dead
ye but cyber war and proxie wars still happen
russias backing al-assad in syria too iirc
i was curious how internet would work with wars, but after watching the russia vs Ukraine internet blocking etc, it kinda made sense
mostly denial of service and disruption
if you could hit another nations power grid? that'd be real bad
take them back 2 centuries
war in the next 50 years will become 90% cold, using service denials(corpos pulling out), assaults on their infrastructure, internet, etc etc
so basically indirect suffering
I wonder too at what point we'll see more PMCs like blackwater
its gonna be all cyber war and any hot battles will be mainly machine v machine with some humans in the way
either that OR
since some corporations are literally bigger than countries in terms of economic size
and CEOs aren't known for ethics
Some countries are just poor and small.
Look at Mali
they kicked out the west to deal with islamic insurgents
I'd rather not!
look at me !
and theres been 3 different 3-day mourning periods this year due to attacks this year alone
I remember in 2015 that jihadists were stealing french mining company equipment like dozers and backhoes to build fortifications -_-
in Mali
attacks in mali or can?
it's okay, atleast your feelings are reaching me!
Idk some countries are just too small to deal with some problems, like insurgency, which the US military has trouble dealing with even
i sometimes really feel bad for small countries
a single issue can turn them to post apocalyptic world
and then imagine if those insurgents / bad actors were ex-CIA and black ops, on 300k a year pay roll plus hazard pay
PMCs ๐ฌ
well insurgency is never going to be something you can solve
in ANY case
no matter how big you are.
yeah fair
how do you fight an enemy you dont know is the enemy?
you cant reasonably kill everyone
or who hides among the civilian populace
its kinda like the old issue with criminals and the police
and remember, every innocent death is more civil unrest
where the police have to play by ALL the rules whereas the criminals don't
and theres asymmetry in that
The police break the rules when it suits them.
google says "Project Management Contract"?
I guess it depends where, but yeah I tend to agree with you
Private Millitary Companies
Private Military Company
@deep copper
It's pretty funny in the UK, though. When ambulances speed through traffic lights, they have to pay fines.
lmao
Like regular road users.
Africa is full of them
hottest take
damn eh, all around conflict minerals and that?
the solution is not to take guns and power from people or police, the solution is better training and education.
guns are tools and tools need to be taught to use correctly.
Its not 1800s so you cant just board a few regiment and invade regions ๐ Countries require PMCs
The trouble with guns is, they're tools for killing.
sure sure, no arguments there
but there are countries with high gun ownership rates, they dont have the problems we have
its a lack of education and oversight
Switzerland iirc
in that case, taking the guns away till proper guidance is in place sounds better to me xD
They're also pretty rich.
i saw a video about covid vaccine being offered with incentive, and incentive was gun, like a few guns
but the best solution is to have better education and training, for all peoples who want to own a weapon.
and since a gun is a specialized tool, it should be treated as such
If only, I bet you that sort of regulation is on a state to state basis and wheres the money to regulate
Select the country with most individual armament:
1๏ธโฃ Bangladesh
2๏ธโฃ Micronesia
3๏ธโฃ Principality of Sealand
4๏ธโฃ USA
license, psychological reviews, criminal background check and a mandated semester of gun safety and handling
my personal belief
Japan did that and they still managed to get their old president assasinated
theres is seemingly no easy answer
that guy self made the gun, i mean, if he had the gun easily available maybe it would've happened earlier
tbf if you really want to kill, even a knife works, but guns just make things easier
ye
idk about yall
but when i sit at a restaraunt
I always have myself facing the door
cuz growing up in sketch neighbourhoods... you always wanna see the door lmao
and whos coming in
Is Sealand like Iceland.... but after global warming?
you can become a baron of sealand... for a fee ๐
its just a mysterious weird place where only 34 people live in it
Why do you actually need to be a baron?
upscaled version of sea land
It's totally not illegal to give yourself whatever title you want, as long as you don't use it for defrauding people.
this felt like an anime for a while after reading it
Its like an old man-made structure in the ocean that someone bought and has since offered people peerage thru lmao
do hugs count as defrauding?
theres a service where you can buy a bit of land in ireland
that looks like a fallen bridge
so you can legally call yourself lord
i am Lord Wasabi Eyedrops
thank you very much
i own a full inch of land in Ireland
yes m'lord, let's hug
I'm just a lesser noble, I still provide taxes and levies
it's a daily hug routine, tax for the space i occupy on that 1 inch land
absolutely worth it!
premium hug
so i can hug you and you pass it on?
87 hugs in a minute is the world record
so 1 hug didn't even last a second, that's quantity over quality
60 seconds, 87 hugs,
hugging so hard mf'rs wanna fine me
you are just that fine for hugging
wasn't there a bunch of urban legends that they offer web hosting for all kinds of things...
that doesn't look like a cloud to me
itd make some good satire or parody to make a skit about a company introducing some product called RAIN powered by the cloud lmao
and other dumb obvious things
on sealand lol
lmao
@deep copper, :8ball: Don't count on it.
Is that thing still running? wtf
Soap operas are kinda nobody compared to some animes.
Blackheads, black eyeliner... they are ready to give you a concert.

Kids finishing the show.
random question, what is intel optane memory ui?
it's a 'startup app' on my pc i just noticed. can i disable it or should i keep it on?
its some "make your pc faster" tech
dunno the ins and outs
but if your systems supports it, i guess windows at some point installed the drivers for it
dunno if its a bad thing/bloat to have
ahh thank you, guess i better leave it as it is for now just in case. xD
is it a laptop by any chance?
cos usually default drivers wont come with a "UI"
assuming ui ib the optane memory ui means user interface....could mean anything
it was a custom built PC tbf.
custom built as in? you chose the parts and a store built it?
i mean i cant really see it being a bad thing
yeah, i guess it's probably some thing that must be benefiting it. i've never noticed it before, just saw it and wondered what it might be.
i dont even know what the requirements are for optane support. i did some research into it a long time ago and saw some quips about it on linus tech tips....but i remember nothing
so it cant have been important xd
from small portions of my memory, i recall it being not bad, useful, but not the amazing feat intel were marketing it as at the time
