i mean, being less brutalistic about his supposed "failures", i think the thing with the story is that the text is a bit too short, there was little to really define the character, its poetic and you can gather some information, blood on the coat implying either the man is wounded OR he committed some form of violence, he is going into a cave and found sweet drug shrooms, he fell and now he is stuck in some hole(cue the scary lofi), he hates himself...and thats about it?

As for self-hate. In a sense of letting the reader ask the question. "Why does he hate himself? What did he do? Why was there blood?"
