Few features, but no background - yet. As with random number generators, it needs time to prove itself. Not to mention that with the increase of the userbase, things gets harder to develop further. I was started from modding, so the programming were at best at the mercy of whatever game you're dealing with (I sticked with classic Doom source ports)
While I can pick up C++ coding side, albeit not expert, I do stuff like animating. Though combining coding and animating would result in technical animation, which what I did in my spare time.

Anywhere in comp sci will do. Learn C++ on your own time, college won't get to it fast enough. The sooner you get your foot in the door, the faster you can say you've got x years of C++ experience.
