Yeah, they likely based the venue booking process on how the original venue sold (which wasn’t that much since they had to reduce the capacity). For all we know they could have booked two nights and are waiting to announce the second date until this one sells out or ends up being on track to sell out to avoid a repeat of Boston (whose venue is about the same capacity) where a venue he could have easily sold out one night in ended up splitting the demand into two nights that didn’t sell out.

Joong Boo Market - a Korean supermarket near the Belmont blue line station. They have a little restaurant in the back with the best kimchi jjigae ever, and a stand out front selling mandu the size of your face.

Kuro Ramen - cozy and cute ramen shop at Archer and Canal. Try the tornado potato!

Hotpot:
Happy Lamb - a chain hotpot restaurant with a buffet-style ingredients bar, so you can try a little of everything. There’s one at 32nd and Halsted.
Qiao Lin - a more upscale hotpot place, attached to the 88 Market shopping center.

Siam Thai - in Hyde Park, nice and cheap! They have a great lunch special. Get some fish cakes on the side.
The Snail - right next door, also Thai. A little more expensive, but their chive dumplings are amazing.

Chinese food:
Xi’an Cuisine - on Cermak, in Chinatown. If you’re vegetarian but still want to try authentic northern Chinese food, this is the place. Get the wheat gluten cold noodles (#82) and a tofu-seaweed flatbread. Some good “tapas” are tofu skin, boiled peanuts, or sour and spicy potato. They also have great carnivore options, such as the cumin lamb flatbread.
Uncle Zhang’s - on 31st St in Bridgeport. This is a good place to take a family or a group. I recommend their oxtails, eggplant with garlic sauce, cucumber salad, and lamb curry fried rice.
Chinatown food court - underground in the Richland Building at Wentworth and Cullerton. Try the Hainan chicken, get a crawfish boil, go nuts! There is a shop that sells meat skewers, whose name I’ve forgotten, that also makes a really good roasted eggplant.

Vietnamese food:
Pho 888 - don’t be fooled by Tank Noodle next door; this one is the real deal. (Also the owners of Tank Noodle went down for some large-scale wage theft a few years back, so I’m done with them.)
Ba Le - the best banh mi. Also try their chè pudding and macarons.

Deep dish:
Pequod’s - the only good one, at Webster and Clybourn up north. Perfectly crispy crust, cooked in a cast iron pan. They can be pretty busy though, so make a reservation.

Chicago hot dogs/delis:
Maxwell Street Depot - greasy, lightning-fast, perfect late night munchies. My favorite one is at 31st and Canal in Bridgeport. The Polish dog is great but the cheeseburger is a minimalist work of art—grilled onion, mustard, cheese, and maybe peppers is all you need.
Morry’s - in Hyde Park at 55th and Cornell. Try the Ultimate Reuben! Or my old standby hangover cure from college: a red Gatorade (the color of healing), a coffee with cream and sugar, and their meaty monstrosity of a breakfast sandwich, the Egg McMorry.
Salonica - Greek diner, also in Hyde Park, on 57th Street (near some good bookstores). Try the egg lemon soup, the moussaka, or the gyros.

Bien Me Sabe Venezuelan Arepas - on Adams Street, just west of the Art Institute. Has some good options for veggie or meats.

What to do downtown:
The Art Institute - You might need to pick just one or two galleries to focus on, depending on how long your visit is, because it’s so huge. I love the Japanese art section.
The Shedd Aquarium - you can touch a sturgeon or a stingray!
The Museum of Surgical Science - dedicated to the history of medicine, i.e., all the weird and wacky ways we’ve tried to fix each other. Gnarly but interesting.
Lincoln Park Zoo - see some beasts.

Other stuff to do:
-Rent a Divvy bike and ride on the lakefront trail
-Go thrifting at the good Village Discount in Roscoe Village, or the good Unique in Bridgeport
-Go bowling at Diversey River Bowl
-Go shopping at the lil hipster boutiques and record stores in Wicker Park. Check out Myopic Books (massive used book store)
-Birdwatching and taco trucks in Humboldt Park
-Explore Rosehill Cemetery in Andersonville (a registered arboretum!)
-See ancient Middle Eastern art and sarcophagi at the Oriental Institute/Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures in Hyde Park
-Have a picnic at Ping Tom Park near Chinatown. You can rent kayaks there and take a trip to downtown and back on the Chicago River.
-Feed the ducks at Palmisano Park in Bridgeport (please bring peas or oats, not bread!)
-Peruse the Wasteshed! It’s a nonprofit “creative reuse” store, basically a thrift store for art supplies. I’ve found some really cool fabrics there. Locations in Evanston and Chicago (Humboldt Park).
-Garfield Park Conservatory is out west, with its own stop on the green line. They have a Fern Room that will make you feel like you’re in Jurassic Park.

Cat arcade is totally worth it. Montrose bird sanctuary can get busy on weekends (so, not as many birds) so try and go during an off peak time.

Graceland Cemetery is awesome. So many crazy ass obelisks and pyramids containing the robber barons. They have a pond in the middle with these fatass carp. I used to live around there and I’d bring them veggies to eat. They’d scarf down whole cubes of melon, really something to see. There’s a nice Mexican bakery nearby called Artemio’s. They make that coffee with the cinnamon in it

Aw dang you’ll miss mulberry season. There are a ton of mulberry trees in Wunder’s Cemetery across the street from Graceland.

Oh yeah, in Pilsen, check out the National Museum of Mexican Art. They have some incredible pieces from ancient times to modern. Nearby there’s Atotonilco Taqueria, the best tacos I’ve ever had.

Architecture Boat Tour is a must, if you have time.

Bridgeport Inn nearby is a dive bar that’s pretty chill about bringing in food. A couple times I’ve brought Phil’s pizza over there for a party and they’ve given us plates and everything. They have pool tables and a dart board.

If you want a really fancy dinner, the Duck Inn has really interesting and lavish American cuisine and fun cocktails. You can indeed get a whole roast duck if you plan ahead.

Oh yeah Bridgeport Art Center is very cool! In the basement is the Chicago Maritime Museum. And there’s also Zhou B art gallery nearby, but I tragically haven’t visited that one yet.
