For the past few months every time I update my drivers via the NVIDIA app it will complete the update but when I relaunch the app sometime later on it shows as if I have the driver download paused- as if it never finished; and when I hit the play button (resume) it will do a full "install" but say it failed to update the graphics driver. No clue what's going on.

Try using the setup package directly

You can download drivers from the official site below. (You will need to specify your GPU and operating system.)

On a laptop, both iGPU and dGPU drivers should be installed for full functionality and performance.

Tried this, used all the correct information from my GPU and everything- the update seemed to go through fine without an issue; but I still see the download paused when I open the NVIDIA app. Do you think reinstalling the app might fix that?

Ignore it; restart the entire computer and see what it thinks
