#NVIDIA Overlay Desktop Capture Issue

Good evening, I have done copious amounts of research before coming here for help.

About a week or two ago, I turned on Desktop capture for the first time in 2 years to save a clip, and since then EVERYTIME I go to save a screenshot, instant replay, or start a video, it gives me a pop up that says:

"Desktop capture is required to take screenshots of the entire desktop. Do you want to turn on desktop capture and try again?"

Even when I'm playing a game like Fortnite with fullscreen or windowed fullscreen selected, which shouldn't be trying to capture the desktop.

The past 2 years I have been using NVIDIA, I have never encountered this issue, and on top of that if I DO turn on desktop capture as it suggests, the clips or screenshots saved for games, like Fortnite, don't save to their own folders like they used to anymore, all clips go to the desktop folder.

I have tried rebooting the app several times, uninstalling and reinstalling... nothing works, I feel like I'm losing my mind. The overlay used to be so easy and convenient to use, but now I'm considering uninstalling it and using OBS instead, which I don't want to do but I don't know what else to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can also provide screenshots if needed as well of settings or the pop up.

There's very unusual behaviour that isn't being replicated here so you will get a lot of questions in addition to being asked to DDU

If you have any issues with your graphics card after updating the Nvidia drivers, please perform the following:

  • Remove the existing Nvidia driver by running Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) here: (AutoDDU can be told to use a custom driver link, or you can use the manual version located here.). For a utility to automate DDU as much as possible follow this guide.
  • You can download drivers from the official site below. (You will need to specify your GPU and operating system.) On a laptop, both iGPU and dGPU drivers should be installed for full functionality and performance.

NVIDIA
AMD
Intel

  • Ensure that your WiFi/Ethernet/Internet is turned off or disconnected before installation of the driver (Running the .exe file) to prevent Windows Update from overriding the driver installation.
  • Disconnect all other monitors (except one main monitor) and all unnecessary USB devices before driver installation to prevent device conflicts or black screens.
  • During driver installation, please select the Custom option when prompted and ensure that Peform a clean installation is checked/ticked before proceeding with the installation.
  • Please restart your computer after the driver installation is completed.

Do you use any of the following?

  • live wallpaper apps
  • non-gaming 3D apps (e.g. CAD tools)
  • third party overlays
  • apps and browser tabs that can play DRM-protected content
  • changed the graphics card selector in Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics on a per-app basis?

Sidenote: I was just able to do a screenshot in R.E.P.O with no issue, but Fortnite still doesn't work

Very similar to roblox memes

I might need to check on my end later

Would it help if I elaborated how the issue came about?

Yeah, everything helps

I was in a Discord call and had to turn on Desktop Capture to have the video include the call audio in the recording, which I have never had to do before, and since then I can't capture anything without it telling me I need to turn on desktop capture, and when I do...most of the time I get an all black screen when it takes the screenshot and it saves to the completely wrong folder, as opposed to the one it usually saves to, in addition, occasionally it starts a video just fine without the pop up, and then randomly starts again

It is really beginning to drive me nuts because I can't find any issue like mine online anywhere
