RTX 5070 ti Asus Prime

I have code 43 in device manager, but unlike other posts, the GPU actually outputs video. There is no iGPU in my system and the DP is plugged into the GPU.

I'm suspecting that my Alienware r15 isn't compatible with the GPU whether it's the PSU or PCIE version or motherboard itself. Unfortunately, I have no way to change any of those.

I've tried using DDU and reinstalling drivers.

I'm just curious if anyone had a similar issue and if I should return the card or try to test it into a different system (though it'd be outside of my return period). It's pretty hard to get these cards at MSRP like I just did but I'm worried that I got a DoA.

#

Alternatively, maybe I'll try to see if the computer store can test it in their build. If it works, then I'll probably keep the card. It's not for myself anyways, it's for my brother's build.

If you encounter Code 43 within the Device Status of your GPU in your Device manager, it means that your GPU has encountered a severe hardware issue and your GPU is dead. Code 43 is equivalent to a hardware failure such as the “Yellow Light Of Death” on the PS3 or “Red Ring Of Death” on the Xbox 360 and requires a GPU chip replacement.

If your GPU or laptop is still covered under warranty, please send the device for RMA/Warranty for a replacement. If your GPU or laptop is no longer covered under warranty, you will need to buy a new GPU or a new laptop.

If you get an error 43 on a brand new card, it's basically a DoA

#

You will have a display as the drivers are not installed

Thanks, I'll head to the computer store tomorrow to see what can be done. Kinda annoying to return a card when none are in stock 😭

Probably see if you can get a similar model from a different brand or a direct cash refund or if you're allowed to pay up/partial refund for a 5080/5070

I guess I'll either try to get a direct refund or ask to be put on backorder for the 5070 ti.

#

It's really surprising that a GPU can be DOA. I feel like they should at least be testing the card at the factory 🥲

even things that you'd think should have zero fail rate

I went to the computer store to figure things out. We tested it on their build and it's working flawlessly. It's probably some kind of incompatibility with the Alienware components.

#

I ended up keeping the GPU because I'm gonna be using it in a custom build anyways. Computer store guy said that he saw this error happen previously due to power supply issues, and that he could resolve it by changing the PSU.

This alienware PC is a piece of crap. It only works with its own components and is incompatible with almost every component I've tried to swap in it

#

RAM can't use EXPO so it's stuck at 4800 MHz

#

can't mix different RAM kits even though it usually works in custom builds

that's the perils of a non-system integrator prebuild

#

the BIOS in their motherboard can operate on a whitelisting system and you're basically SOL
