so im trying to play need for speed heat, a 5 year old game, i use a razer blade 17 2022, the specs are a 3080TiL (16GB), i712800H, 360 Hz 1080p ultra monitor, 32 gigs of RAM (couldn't find the generation).
other issues:
screen tearing (i turned vsync on yet it doesn't help)
some programs keep losing internet despite the internet itself being stable

destabilising laptop

Not looking good

halcyon warren
#

Its only 3 years old

#

Many of my friends use laptops which are older than them

# halcyon warren Its only 3 years old

doesn't really matter here. it's very rare but still possible for hardware to die early. ever heard of things dying right out of warranty or even when brand new?

#

anyway, when the GPU disappears, does it exist in Device Manager still?

#

If so, any icons? If yes, open its properties and show what error it has

#

as for screen tearing, on laptops, if you're not in dGPU mode, turning on vsync on anywhere outside of the game itself does nothing

#

you need to be in dGPU mode if you plan to use external vsync

#

If you did enable vsync in-game, and you're in dGPU mode, I'd probably check your "Manage 3D Settings" in NVIDIA Control Panel

#

For apps losing internet, am I correct in assuming that the network connectivity icon never indicated any issue? If this is the case, please check with an alternative connection method (e.g. your phone's hot spot), or trying wired instead of Wi-Fi (or vice versa)

like im texting here from the same very laptop

#

also screen tearing sometimes goes away i don't know how or why

#

i guess the screen tearing is only when i run something that eats the GPU

#

but i will still try with vsync on in game

#

vsync in game fixed screen tearing and made it last longer till it crashes but it didn't fix the crash problem completely

#

What driver are you on?

halcyon warren
#

lemme check

#

576.28

#

wait if the game wasn't updated since 2020 what if it thinks the new driver is an outdated one

#

but then why would the driver crash

feral ibex
#

Please try 566.36

If you have any issues with your graphics card after updating the Nvidia drivers, please perform the following:

  • Remove the existing Nvidia driver by running Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) here: (AutoDDU can be told to use a custom driver link, or you can use the manual version located here.). For a utility to automate DDU as much as possible follow this guide.
  • You can download drivers from the official site below. (You will need to specify your GPU and operating system.) On a laptop, both iGPU and dGPU drivers should be installed for full functionality and performance.

NVIDIA
AMD
Intel

  • Ensure that your WiFi/Ethernet/Internet is turned off or disconnected before installation of the driver (Running the .exe file) to prevent Windows Update from overriding the driver installation.
  • Disconnect all other monitors (except one main monitor) and all unnecessary USB devices before driver installation to prevent device conflicts or black screens.
  • During driver installation, please select the Custom option when prompted and ensure that Peform a clean installation is checked/ticked before proceeding with the installation.
  • Please restart your computer after the driver installation is completed.

i feel off about this but i can try i guess

#

back to the no internet for some apps problem

feral ibex
#

open command prompt as admin and run:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset

halcyon warren
#

turns out the no internet thing is because of kaspersky antivirus

#

existing with no antivirus or existing without internet on most apps is a very bad variety of options
