#No signal with 5080 hdmi

Is anyone experiencing issues with external display connections on the Scar 18 RTX5080(2025)?
I'm facing a problem where the external monitor shows "no signal." Windows Device Manager detects the monitor without any errors, but there is no output to the screen. I’ve tried different ports, cables, and drivers, but nothing permanently fixes it. Sometimes it works briefly after troubleshooting, then loses signal again.

I’m confident that my monitor is not the problem — it works perfectly with other laptops. For reference, it’s an AOC 32-inch 4K 144Hz monitor with G-Sync Compatible support.
I am not sure is this driver problem?

Please use a certified and high-bandwidth HDMI or DisplayPort cables to be used with your high refresh rate and high resolution displays. Do not use the cables that come with the monitor or cheap uncertified cables, otherwise you will experience black screens, graphical artifacting, screen corruption, or the display not working at native resolution.

For HDMI, please ensure that your cables have the "Ultra High Speed HDMI" sticker and certification on the retail box as shown here: Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - Bandwidth Up To 48Gbps
These cables are certified by the HDMI Consortium to support for all HDMI 2.1b features including uncompressed 8K@60 and 4K@120.

For DisplayPort, please ensure that your cables are listed in the database here: Cables & Adaptors Archives - DisplayPort
A certified DisplayPort cable shall have a DP40 or DP80 label for support for high resolution and high refresh rate displays.

Hi , I am sure that my cable are certified, which validated by HDMI.org qr code

#

Please recommend the cable brand or model that you prefered , I will go for it to try

#

What is the cable you are using at the moment?

#

Also, could you open Nvidia Control Panel, and open the PhysX tab

#

and screenshot the window here

tight loom
#

Atz , which is the local brand from Singapore, but those are certified officially by HDMI.org

#

Try disabling the iGPU and see what happens

tight loom
#

I have chance to have signal if I set to duplicate mode with 60hz, but no signal if set to extend mode or second display only mode

#

But not always work with duplicate mode

#

Feels like a driver bug

#

Are you using latest drivers?

You can download drivers from the official site below. (You will need to specify your GPU and operating system.)

On a laptop, both iGPU and dGPU drivers should be installed for full functionality and performance.

NVIDIA
AMD
Intel

I tested from 572 to 576.15 version,

#

All the same

#

Currently is using 576.15

#

Do you have another monitor to test

#

my concern is that your hdmi port may be broken

tight loom
#

Don't have, I only have one monitor

unkempt wyvern
#

try to find another monitor to test

#

a cheap one from the office should be fine

tight loom
#

The second laptop is using Intel graphics only

#

For work only

#

Only having issue with this gaming laptop

unkempt wyvern
#

It's the HDMI port on your laptop that needs to be checked

#

Pretty sure you have a TV right?

#

You can use that too

#

Plug your laptop to the TV

tight loom
#

Hmm

#

Let me check my tv ,been a while never use

tight loom
#

Sorry, unable to test, look like my tv HDMI not working , office laptop and gaming laptop are not working

#

I will get a new cable later to try and let u know

I have a unidirectional HDMI-to-DisplayPort (DP) cable (laptop to monitor) with a built-in signal converter. When I connect my gaming laptop to my external monitor using this cable, everything works fine — the signal is detected and the display functions normally.

To verify whether the HDMI port on the monitor is working properly, I used the same cable and port (which used by gaming laptop earlier) to connect my office laptop (which only has an Intel iGPU) to the monitor. The display worked perfectly as well. This confirms that the issue only occurs when connecting the gaming laptop via HDMI.

Although the unidirectional HDMI-to-DP cable works with the gaming laptop, it does not support G-Sync, not support HDR and 4K resolution is limited to 60Hz. Based on this behavior, I suspect the issue might be driver-related.
What’s your assessment?

#

is look like some handshake problem if connect by HDMI to HDMI direclty by the 5080?

tight loom
#

is that possible fix by up coming driver update?

#

or is related to chipset problem?

unkempt wyvern
#

it can be driver issue or faulty HDMI port

#

unfortunately unless you have a new monitor to test out we can't rule out the faulty HDMI port issue

tight loom
#

Hmm . I don't understand why suspect HDMI port faulty , as of testing ,it is only having problem when HDMI direct connect with specific laptop

#

It can display with HDMI to dp convertor

#

Is look like some info or signal can not passthrough directly via HDMI cable with the port or unable recognize by the driver

#

I was using Alienware with 3080 without problem, but the laptop is death

#

Thats why change a new laptop with 5080 gpu

#

What is your assessment or expectations if I test with another monitor if working or not working?
But working with the HDMI to dp cable with my existing monitor

#

Just to highlight that my HDMI to dp cable not require any additional addition adapter or power supply

#

It is consumed the power directly from HDMI port

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

Hmm... I will get a new cable to try

unkempt wyvern
#

Right now it all boils down to either the laptop HDMI faulty port where it doesn't get a signal unless there is an active adapter/cable or the cable itself is faulty with the power pins not connected/broken

#

That is why a 2nd monitor is needed to rule out whether it's a cable or a port issue

#

Have you used the certified cable with that iGPU laptop and the monitor?

#

does it work?

tight loom
#

Window OS still able detected external monitor without error if the HDMI port faulty?

unkempt wyvern
#

we need to isolate which one is broken

tight loom
#

Never mind ,I will test, because I don't understand if the cable or port faulty ,why my office laptop is working as normal

#

If suspect the port on the laptop is faulty

#

I will send to warranty

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

What question?

tight loom
#

I answered already

unkempt wyvern
#

The one that you said it was "faulty/not working"

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

Is ATZ which Singapore local brand and their cable are certified and came with HDMI qr code to verify

unkempt wyvern
#

does it work

#

You're not answering my question

tight loom
#

u mean switch igpu with external monitor?

#

I will try later, I am outside now

unkempt wyvern
#

The Intel graphic laptop

tight loom
unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

Iyes

#

Is work as I mentioned earlier

unkempt wyvern
#

I'm just trying to rule out which is the issue, the CABLE OR THE PORT ON YOUR 5080 LAPTOP

tight loom
#

I use the same cable and same port used by gaming laptop earlier to connect to office laptop

#

I mentioned earlier

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

U can check back my messages earlier , I stated what I did already

unkempt wyvern
unkempt wyvern
#

Or you have 2 cables you're using, the ATZ cable and that adapter

tight loom
#

Is HDMI to HDMI cable

#

No adapter

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

I did not use any adapter

#

I mean second cable is not required any additional adapter or power supply

unkempt wyvern
#

My guess here is that your laptop HDMi might be broken

tight loom
#

I Abit confused what cable u are referring

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

I only use 2 kind of cable to test

unkempt wyvern
#

Cause you're mentioning one cable and then the other cable and god knows why are you testing if your monitor is working when I told you that your monitor is fine and it might be your laptop

tight loom
#

One is HDMI cable which is using by gaming laptp,
Another cable is HDMI to dp cable

#

HDMI to HDMI is no signal

#

But HDMI to dp got signal

unkempt wyvern
#

ok, stop bothering with the HDMI to DP cable

tight loom
#

I think u are confusing or do t understand what is my problem

#

Maybe I need to simplified my explanation, lol

unkempt wyvern
#

I think I already mentioned what is your issue

#

I'm doing the process of elimination

#

To rule out which is broken.

#

The MONITOR, THE HDMI PORT ON YOUR 5080 LAPTOP, OR THE CABLE

#

And based on the conversation and your own testing it looks like the HDMI port on your 5080 laptop is broken

tight loom
#

What if I test with other monitor but working with gaming laptop?

unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

I can bring it to my office to test tomorrow

unkempt wyvern
unkempt wyvern
tight loom
#

I also told I don't have second monitor

#

I need to borrow or bring to somewhere to test

#

Some more the testing need a little bit time, it is not immediate happen sometime

#

And I need to have free time in the office for testing

#

I share more what I did u will more confuse, I already skip some other testing in the description

#

Like in the beginning is working fine after reformat, but not working at all after few time rebooting

#

Because I try troubleshoot it few day already

tight loom
#

Hi

#

Thansk for your support

#

I think is my cable problem

#

Just change to the other brand which also is certified cable ,seem now is working, I will keep monitoring see whether the problem happen again

#

I will try rebooting computer multiple time to test

#

And sorry for my bad attitude earlier

#

Is just some feature is gray now ,I believe is because of the cable not compatible some of the features, I will get higher grade cable to try again if this cable working fine

I have recently tested many certified HDMI cables, but it seems that my black screen issue is related to the Dynamic Refresh Rate (DRR) setting in Windows. When DRR is enabled, the screen goes black and never recovers. I’m not sure whether the problem is caused by the driver, the monitor, or Windows itself.
