#High GPU usage on shadowplay 3070Ti
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Why?
100% load at 300 MHz = 10% at 3000 MHz
GPU usage % do not take into account current speed
Testing right now
with shadowplay disabled ⬇️
do i need to look at Graphics, Memory or Video ?
anyone knows
Shadowplay has many unresolved issues, thus it is not supported here.
If you are looking for a reliable alternative, please install OBS Studio and read the following guides to configure it:
For better or worse, video recording is not a free action as far as power usage is concerned, if you enabled desktop capture AND instant replay at the same time
especially since you're dealing with 4K
at 60 FPS
that NVENC block basically has to stay on
that said
if you don't need to record videos all the time, OBS is apt
is obs still a better alternative for now, if i still want to record all the time? using Instant buffer for example(their way of instant replay)
Keep in mind that your issue technically isn't one (having a permanently recording function on a 4K desktop)
But pretty much yes
yea thats what im trying to figure, if thats an issue, but based on your images i sent you, how much MHZ does the recording use? i dont know if i should look on Graphics, Memory or Video and also, if thats considered a big usage, thx
Just the Video Engine
its on ~1400MHz while desktop recording, is that considered alot? im not sure how much it consumes when im running a game
For all intents and purposes usage numbers are meaningless at idle
Simply try to record anything and check the results. Does it drop frames?
i mean yea i could test that but it will take me alot of time to test
i mean is it really idle when its recording the desktop even?
it still uses 1400MHz of the gpu
Try comparing it vs your screen set to 1080p
it loweres
i tried
its like going from 25% to 2K on 50% and then 4K - 75%
it terms of MHz i assume its also in sync with that
Mmm
Basically
GPU can't idle if desktop recording and instant Replay are both on at the same time
Does the GPU go to flat 200-300 MHz if either were disabled?
If so, there's your answer
It stopped being true idle
instant replay is just desktop recording isnt it?
or instant replay also has some effect on the normal recording
No, separate
Instant Replay makes it so that the GPU always records the last X minutes, and allows you to save that with a button press, without needing to know when to start recording
Normally, if desktop recording is off, no recording will take place without a 3D app
yea yea i know
ive been using it for the past 10 yrs or so
i just remember i never had such high usage like a year ago or so
If desktop recording was on, I'd think that something funny will happen. I'll check with my desk later
btw on idle without instant replay recording its -
I think you found your answer
Enable both desktop recording and instant Replay, GPU needs to record at all times
