#Ever since installing RTX 5080 FE, tabbing out of games is very slow and laggy

As the title states, whenever I alt tab out of a game or click off of it when in fullscreen, my pc will lag and freeze for a good 3 seconds. My PC's audio will also be delayed behind by 1 second before catching up to normal. This never happened when I was on my 3080 and only started happening when switching to my 5080.

I have tried:
-DDU
-Updating GPU Drivers after DDU
-Updating Windows
-Updating Bios
-Unchecking Disable Full Screen Optimizations (I had this checked on all my games when I was on my 3080 and had no issues but I tried unchecking and it made no difference)
-Resetting NVIDIA Control Panel to default
-Manually setting the PCIE slot to 4.0 for the 5080
Any help and suggestions would be great. Only thing I could maybe thing of is using a 2.1 Displayport cable but I dont think that would do anything

Also should mention launching games also has this issue. Like just feels so much slower and laggier

rustic summit
#

Ok so update to all this, I think it might be more than just whatever this issue is. In destiny 2, I have random red spots and areas in the game now. None of these were there before and have only now just appeared with the 5080 installed. Here is a pic of what it should look like vs what I am seeing

#

some more pics. Dont have comparsion ones but all this red is NOT supposed to be there. I will check with other games to see if there are more rendering issues

May I know your monitor and resolution? Thanks

#

are the games also running at 1440p?

rustic summit
#

Yes

#

this did just appear in windows updates

#

never seen this

chrome tapir
#

Try installing it

rustic summit
#

ill try seeing if the issue persists right now

#

if it does ill try restarting my pc and if it still doesnt work

#

then idk anymore

#

ok well right off the bat i can tell you its not working. Ill try restarting

rustic summit
#

Lost on what to do. Bout to throw this entire pc out the window

chrome tapir
#

Like CPU? Mobo model? All of them

rustic summit
chrome tapir
#

All looking alright

#

That dithering though

#

my guess is that it's a DoA

#

Return the card and get a new one

rustic summit
#

🫠

#

guess Ill contact NVIDIA

#

or BestBuy

#

TY for helping

#

Ill also try putting my old GPU in

#

just to see if its anything else on my PC and not the 5080

I would try seeing whether a different cable would help out. Since you mentioned you mentioned you could try using a 2.1 display port cable, i am assuming you're using HDMI?

rustic summit
#

displayport 1.4

#

been a long while since I got these cables

jovial timber
#

I think it was mentioned previously but I would try out a different game if the red artifacts are still present.

#

It could be an issue where Destiny 2 isn't supported on RTX 50 series cards.

#

Or more so, not really "optimized" for the 50 series cards.

rustic summit
#

bout to go try a few

#

I didnt notice any in other games so maybe it is a D2 thing

#

or at least they werent as noticable if theyre there

#

if there isnt any red artifacts or dithering in other games, thats a good sign but that nasty alt tab issue is still there

jovial timber
#

The alt tab thing may be an issue with DSC. That usually gets resolved if you set the game to windowed fullscreen instead of fullscreen - if that's how you have things configured.

#

Also, I didn't really see a lot of videos comparing the RTX 5080 on Destiny 2 which leads me to believe there hasn't been a lot of "demand" to optimize the 50 series for Destiny 2 if no one is really playing the game with the GPU.

rustic summit
#

ill try looking around if anyone has played d2 on a 50 series card and had these issues. If so then im glad its not just me

#

also just ordered a 2.1 displayport and hdmi 2.1 cable jsut to try them both out and see if the issues subside

jovial timber
#

Sounds good. I question whether those cables would offer any value because I don't think your monitor supports the latest HDMI and DP standards.

rustic summit
#

also my alt tab issue isnt a black screen

#

i guess you could say it almost is but instead of a black screen, my entire pc freezes

#

not fast or seemless

jovial timber
#

I would try this as well.
disabling Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Settings--> Display--> Graphics-->Default graphics settings and restarting the compute

#

Some users reported it fixed their PC freezing when alt tabbing

rustic summit
#

unfortunately that did not work

#

wondering if this might just be a 50 series issue

jovial timber
#

Perhaps. I think it may be hard for other people to assist or chime in since not a lot of people have the 5080s in hand.

@rustic summit "If you notice strange red artifacts while gaming, you can go to the NVIDIA Control Panel and set Anisotropic Filtering to application controlled"
someone wrote that when he had a problem with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and it probably helped him

rustic summit
#

Yeah I saw that post on the forums yesterday

#

fixed my issue

#

very weird

I am having alt tab blackscreens and lag without DSC. RTX5080 and it sometimes also happens when alt tabbing in or out of borderless fullscreen games

buoyant forum
#

I have minutes long black screen, broken up by a few frames, when alt tabbing or changing resolution, and even sometimes when plugging in or unplugging an hdmi or dpmi connection. The only solution so far is making sure everything is in borderless mode

#

Also wired vr is broken. Constant purple spikes and stutter

buoyant forum
#

Happy to hear what you found; I spent a lot of time fiddling with this card so far

gilded pawn
#

so I got a 5080 with 3 monitors attached: all of them 2560x1440 and GSYNC compatible. The left one 144hz, middle one 240hz (with 270hz mode disabled) and right one 180hz. When I set any side monitor to less than its max refresh rate i get black screens on said monitor when alt tabbing and randomly. When I disable GSYNC on either of them while having it enabled on main screen I also get blackscreens. The only way that prevents all blackscreens so far (been testing different games for the past 30min and 0 balckscreens while before I had blackscreens all over the place, every time I alt tabbed) is to disable GSYNC in nvidia control panel for every monitor, then go to the nvidia app and enable GSYNC for every monitor including for windowed applications (important), also set every monitor to their max refresh rate

#

it's a terrible workaround though as it drains so much power unnecessarily. I want to run the side screens at 120hz and the middle one at 240 so the frame pacing is also clean on the windows desktop

buoyant forum
#

I have nearly the same setup except my right side display is a 120hz tv

#

I have to think hard how your work around works 😛

#

Oh my middle is 4k 240hz; barely different

gilded pawn
#

yeah my bad chaotic wording lol. Just enable GSYNC on every screen for fullscreen and windowed apps, and run all your screens at their max refresh rate and see if it fixes your issue too

#

4k240 you are probably using DSC unless it's DP2.1. DSC is known to cause blackscreens when alt tabbing fullscreen games

buoyant forum
#

So disable g sync in windows for the displays then enable it in the Nvidia app for each?

gilded pawn
#

yeah disable gsync everywhere for all your screens in windows and nvidia control panel and then enable everything in the nvidia app

buoyant forum
#

I noticed vsync gave me frame drops and micro stutter so had to disable it to get cyberpunk smooth as butter

gilded pawn
#

it completely got rid of my balckscreens I am confident now. Even reverted to pcie gen5

buoyant forum
#

also Minecraft had the stutter

#

You can quickly alt tab now?

gilded pawn
#

gsync should get rid of stutter anyway you want to use it

#

yeah

#

tested in cs2, valorant, cyberpunk, apex legends so far and no issues anymore

buoyant forum
#

I have a gsync on currently

#

I’ll try your idea thanks a ton!

gilded pawn
#

also you might want to always use gsync anyway, i even use it in competetive in combination with reflex and vsync (yes vsync, enabling reflex, gsync and vsync at the same time limits your FPS below max refresh rate so vsync doesn't kick in, another way to do it is a manual frame cap instead of vsync)

buoyant forum
#

Trying nier automata right now and getting a native 60fps at 4k what the hell. Barely better than my 3080

gilded pawn
#

you can use smooth motion in nvidia driver to double the FPS

#

frame gen

buoyant forum
#

Ahh didn’t know that. Lossless scaling can still boost me to 120 luckily

gilded pawn
#

also nier is awesome xd

#

yeah but lossless scaling is worse than nvidias frame gen, might as well just use the driver option

buoyant forum
#

I see no artifact is with lossless x2

#

I’m used to using it with my legion go

gilded pawn
#

i mean if you already got an rtx50xx why not use nvidias frame gen instead, it is better when you look at comparisons

#

anyway let me know if your blackscreens are fixed

buoyant forum
#

I will im just in the game right now and tried it out

#

I also found in cyberpunk the dlss wouldn’t change between x2-x4, only with the Nvidia app

gilded pawn
#

ok well, i just tried nier automata and dark souls 3, both send all 3 monitors to a black screen and the games don't even start, while one monitor stays black but i can move the cursor on it lol.

#

oof

buoyant forum
#

lol we need drivers

gilded pawn
#

maybe it really is a hardware defect in all rtx50 series cards

buoyant forum
#

If it’s a defect there will be a class action lawsuit but I bet it’s drivers

gilded pawn
#

ok nier and dark souls 3 run now that i disabled frame gen in driver. But it used to work before

buoyant forum
#

Cyberpunk freezes with in game screenshots

glad goblet
