Use the following benchmarks and monitoring tools to determine if your PC is performing as it should.
Benchmarks
3DMark
Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool
Cinebench 2024
Cinebench R23 (TechSpot download)
CrystalDiskMark
Stability
OCCT
Memtest86
Memtest86+
Please note that these two software are similar but distinct to each other
Monitoring
CrystalDiskInfo
HWINFO
?
Please run 3DMark and post the results here
with HWINFO also open in the background
HWINFO has two modes, Summary and Sensors. Normally, when asked, you'll want to use the Sensors-only mode to get the information that may be needed (e.g. temperatures, power usage, clock speeds.)
When opening HWINFO, make sure to tick "Sensors-only" so that it does not open the summary display first. Then click Start.
On some hardware, HWINFO may ask if you want to monitor them or not, as there may be some potential conflicts if they were monitored. Usually these aren't important enough to matter if it's being monitored or not.
Once HWINFO's sensor status window open, look for the relevant sections and screenshot them. If you're unsure, screenshot the entire thing. This window is scrollable, so you'll need to scroll and take multiple screenshots.
If you know what you're doing, these are the items you'll probably need (names may vary; below are samples from Intel CPUs; some items may not exist for your particular system):
- Core VIDs
- CPU Package Temperature
- Core Thermal Throttling
- Package/Ring Thermal Throttling
- CPU Package Power
- PL1 Power Limit (Static)
- PL2 Power Limit (Static)
- MOS
- VR VOUT
- +12V
- Vcore
- CPU Fan
- Pump Fan
- GPU Temperature
- GPU Hot-spot
- GPU Core Clock
- GPU Power
- GPU +12V
- GPU Fan
- GPU Performance Limit Reasons
- Windows Hardware Errors (WHEA)
start HWINFO in sensors-only mode first, then while that window is still open, run a 3DMark benchmark (the suggested one will do). Post both 3DMark results and the contents of HWINFO. Refer to above for what's needed.
i download the 3dmark from steam?
Yes. The demo is enough.
ok
and how can u fix those issues? if i show you that are bad ? just asking
HWINFO's stats can point towards what needs fixing
3DMark is there to induce a load (stats aren't useful when idling)
best to use 3DMark than some games as some of them can be unoptimized
from where do i install hwinfo
even on desktop its slow
everything
thats the problem
from where do i install to be safe
3dmark downloaded
left middle right?
the leftmost one, green free download
then local
just open it and show the contents now since nothing is loading quick enough
one sec
sensors only?
@limber roost finally!!! take a look
what do you say?
You need to scroll down and take more screenshots
(The entire thing, if possible.)
1 sec
(You can screenshot only the window with ALT-Print Screen)
Expand "IA Limit Reasons" and retake this screenshot
am i blind ? i dont see it lol
these?
Bogus IA PROCHOT being triggered despite no actual thermal issues
and what do i do ? to not have the lag and slow running
- Are you using the laptop's original charger?
- In Asus Armoury Crate, check the performance mode. If it's already set to the correct one, change it to the most power saving one, apply this, restart your PC, then change it to some kind of balanced mode, apply that, and restart your PC again.
- In Windows, make sure that the power scheme is set to "Balanced" or "Best performance". Also check Windows Tools (this is located inside Start > All apps) > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and make sure the power plan is also "Balanced". If it is, also reset the plan to its default settings.
- Check for BIOS updates.
- Check for laptop firmware updates.
- Check for Intel Management Engine Interface updates.
- Check for driver updates.
- If possible, perform a battery reset (refer to your laptop's manual or support pages to see if this is possible - you'll be looking for a way to make the battery temporarily cut off entirely)
its the original
i just downloaded the newest driver
and this happend
before i had an older one
runned 1000 better
If none of the above help:
- Use AutoDDU to clear out and reinstall the latest drivers.
- If this doesn't help, use the manual version of DDU, then install the older driver you liked, and report the bug to NVIDIA Customer Support and/or Asus
For a utility to automate DDU as much as possible follow this guide.
Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) - Remove AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL Graphics Drivers Cleanly - DDU is a driver removal utility that helps you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, leaving no leftovers behind, including registry keys, folders, files, and driver store.
wait
Even if you think you know the cause, I'd still go through the checklist.
how i get the driver back
Sometimes it's a temporary bug, or a problem caused by an external factor.
Assuming your old driver is the one right before the latest: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/235905/
If that doesn't help, try this fairly old driver: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/224155/
remember: IA PROCHOT is a problem with the laptop's CPU or its interaction with other hardware
wait what
If you installed the new driver via NVIDIA App, there should be a rollback option on the same place you downloed the driver from
IA PROCHOT = Something inside the computer is getting too hot and should throttle
This signal is bidirectional
i didnt have a problem with temperature
CPU too hot? This can trigger.
GPU too hot? This can trigger.
Some weird part inside your laptop too hot? This can trigger.
The thing is, even if everything looks fine, if this triggers, you crater anyway.
If nothing seems to be overheating, likely bug
The problem is, who's proccing it?
before this driver i had no problem ....
You need to go through the checklist to rule out everyone
Sometimes, something that looks like a driver issue is caused by something else
See: Chromium graphics bugs, Windows keeping the monitor signal even after sleep, etc.
If you cannot or are unwilling to go through the long list, just use the NVIDIA App driver rollback
Or do a manual DDU and pick either of the old driver I chose
its to get the driver back
If a game doesn't let you use a driver, then you install what it wants
? I already provided you instructions to do exactly what you wanted. Get your old driver back. Or some other old driver.
If you still do not want to do that, you're on your own.
look
i installed 2 drivers
this one i have now
the newest
and 555.99
if i do the rollback i get to the first one right?
Yes, but do not use the one in Device Manager. Use the function inside NVIDIA App.
not this?
looked on yt
No. You use this, you break the drivers, and you will be forced to use AutoDDU to clean up the mess it causes.
Rollback using Device Manager is not supported.
And will cause things to be in an inconsistent state, breaking apps that rely on the driver.
You can now write off whichever channel told you to do this
every guide there is junk
websplaning i think
Use NVIDIA App's own rollback functions or do it manually
i dont find people showing
only the same thing with this
You're on the old GeForce Experience, not the new NVIDIA App. Your only method is to DDU.
DDU?
what is that?
For a utility to automate DDU as much as possible follow this guide.
also in cause that didn't work/you want to directly go to an older driver:
Ideally, use DDU (AutoDDU can be told to use a custom driver link, or you can use the manual version located here.)
Alternatively, if you had the NVIDIA App installed in the life of both the previous driver and the current one, you can go to the driver page inside the app and select the rollback option.
Never use the rollback option in Device Manager; this will break the drivers and any apps that rely on it. You'll end up needing to DDU for real anyway, so you did double the work.
the one you sent?
yep. don't forget about the old driver links above
ok
@wicked shoal
hope it works
and if that doesnt work too
what do i do?
burn it?
Something likely indeed broke deeply. Follow the long checklists I posted earlier.
same thing
i installed the drivers
same thing
minecraft barely launching
@limber roost last night i had 144 fps on minecraft
now i have max 50 and drop frames that get me to 1 fps
@limber roost I DID IT
IDK HOW
i works
one more question
it kinda drops from 110-120 fps
to 90-80
like drop frame
any solution?
With HWINFO running in the same way, run a 3DMark again, and post results and stats
