So I've been having this issue since I got this pc from my brother, where I play a game and it will run amazing but after a bit it just crashes without warning. Specifically, when it crashes on valorant the error message is Graphics Driver Crashed, so that's why I assume its related to my graphics driver which makes sense. All the games are the same, where I play for a while and it randomly freezes then closes without any warning. I have tried to DDU my graphics driver, reset my PC multiple times including a full reset, download driver updates and drivers in general as well as avoid downloading drivers as I reset my PC. I'm really at a loss, it's very upsetting that the games I want to play continue to crash. I have tried getting in support for those games and sending my crash logs but nothing has helped the overall issue yet. Please help me.

@versed nexus this is related to what I talked to you about yesterday, it has not been fixed :(
its kinda vague because i dont know how to narrow down the issue but if you are interested in helping lmk
I noticed just now while testing, my gpu usage goes very high and then the game closes itself
this was taken just now after i crashed
it doesn't really look like anything to me tho
video encode is from discord screenshare
DDU should solve this, can you try it again,
again?
Using this guide
For a utility to automate DDU as much as possible follow this guide.
alright
DDU is very easy to misuse, so I’m not doubting you, but it’s an easy attempt at a fix…
okay
the guide is saying the same things that the cmd prompt said as i was using it
but ill try it again
Ok I have to go to sleep now, but in the meantime can you try the following:
- Setting your GPU power target to 50% and see if the crashes stop. If they do, your psu could be degrading - 30 series have power spikes so like a high quality psu
- Run memtest+ for two cycles. You may want to try resetting your ram to stock speeds before memtest and see if that fixes it
how do i set the power target?
There are many ways but the usual way is to download MSI afterburner
- Reset cmos
Describes how to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
- Make sure your psu is connected properly and isn’t daisy chained https://youtu.be/UL7KIVI_hJg?feature=shared

@cinder otter make sense?
I’m going to sleep now so I won’t be able to help until morning
post ddu just crashed, ill check out the stuff you sent after dinner
trying this now
i dont really think it worked, but multiple guides said to turn this power limit setting on in afterburner to test
anyway it crashed again on that setting so
im gonna test the other stuff
neither of these found any issues
If you've overclocked the CPU in any form, or if this is with RAM XMP turned on, immediately go to the BIOS and run it with no XMP, and retest.
If XMP off passes retest, now go see if the GPU still errors and stuff
Any memory error can cause basically anything up to silent file corruption (which is extremely bad as it is invisible) in addition to the usual crashes and BSODs
ohh
that would make sense
no errors ]ever
except for val which says basic graphics driver crashed
i sent logs to val support and they just basically said 'idk try uninstalling razer'
CPU and RAM failures sometimes can cause error detection to blame the wrong part because they aren't even thinking straight
it consistently would say graphics driver every time though
Like cooked 13/14th gen CPUs and out of video memory
So this is not a good indicator
i have 11th gen
Doesn't matter. It's an example. You have potential RAM failure.
only happened once so far so im still testing but it seems the frames will still randomly plummet for a second (which is when i used to crash) but i wont crash
It sounds like you have a ram/cpu/mobo hardware issue. I don’t know if it’s fixable.
Things are still cratering randomly even with no XMP? Yeah that ain't good at all
Just to be clear, it could be another issue and the ram is just a distraction, so tbh you should be looking at a new desktop as this level of troubleshooting isn’t worth it unless you have a warehouse of spare parts and a week to kill…
Not saying you shouldn’t try, but be aware there are no guarentees
well, a lga1700 ddr4/am4 cpu+board shouldn't be too expensive and a 12th gen i5/5000 series ryzen is comparatively dirt cheap, so if you're out of options...
though if I were you I'd also just not even bother with the ram and go lga1700 ddr5 or am5
but yeah i think we're basically out of reasonable things to check
Can we rule out a GPU issue hiding somewhere?
that reminds me...
his system appears to be pcie gen4 capable
@cinder otter can you see if the crashes/performance craters stop if either:
- if the video card was originally vertically mounted, or something is between it and the board slot, directly mount the card
- downgrade the pcie link speed to 3.0
if neither are applicable let me know
Also the constant crashing may have caused some damage to the rest of their components…
at least it looks like just about any possible cpu he can buy will be an upgrade
i have a new one picked out, i have two desktops rn im trying to sell both
i just wanted to fix it before selling it
to not be an ass
i only noticed it once so far it could just be a stray, i’m gonna leave a game open that crashes and see if it crashes
Tbh you shouldn’t sell something like that, all the components are suspect tbh…
i wanna get it working and test it leaving a decently intensive game on for a day or so and having the frames logged
interestingly enough everything seems fine now but i tried using novabench and this is what it says
novabench always seems to have a problem tho
My theory is your ram is having a problem
Can you try gaming using your igpu?
Remove the video card from your system and plug in the display cable to a port on your motherboard (on the same panel as your USB and audio at the back)
See if it ever crashes
it doesnt crash anymore
i left subnautica open for an hour then started playing half life alyx in vr
turning off xmp seems to fix everything
sounds like either memory or memory controller going bad at 4000 MT/s
keeping in mind that 4000 MT/s isa very high speed
can you see if:
XMP On, but intentionally reduce the RAM speed to 3200 MHz in the BIOS (will show as 3200 MT/s in Task Manager)
crashes or not
kk
i havent got around to this yet but have you heard of the software VTRL?
i see someone talking about it and it seems really good for tweaking
Don't bother tweaking while you're still investigating stability issues
All is good now :)
XMP was the issue, everything is fine after extensive testing with it off
Meaning I can sell the pc wooohooo
I do have a different separate issue, nvidia control panel desktop color settings reset everytime i restart
nevermind this guy has same issue same driver
the newest driver does have that bug, so if you don't need any features in it, uninstall and install an older driver
how do i do that? i forgot where to find the old drivers
