I recently purchased a new 4070 windforce oc gigabyte gpu with 12 gb of ram. When playing games such as fortnite I am experiencing extremly low fps during the games. Sometimes almost reaching 3 fps. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this problem. All my graphic drivers have been up to date. I also tried reinstalling them, but haven't seen any difference.
#New 4070 under performing 5 - 80 fps

Download GPU-Z and show the contents of the first tab
Yes
Now go run this and post the result here
run the game and where to get the results?
Get the demo, run the suggested benchmark. Once it finishes, a results window should pop up. Screenshot that and post it here.

@sleek spire is this a good thing or bad?
Your GPU is functioning correctly, so it's time to check why you are getting low performance in the games you listed
Can you show Fortnite's graphics settings?
such as?
for mw3 im running 80 - 130 fps
The entire thing
all high settings
Settings and CPU?
Also: if using DX12, you are already playing with RT on. Frame rates will go down.
New video cards may trigger setting resets
okay let me run it and send ss
@sleek spire what do you mean by this?
im on dx12
For the time being can you set the settings as follows?
- Restore defaults first.
- Frame Rate Limit set to unlimited.
- Vsync off.
- Make sure the rendering mode is DX12.
- Set the quality preset to Low.
- use DLSS Performance.
Load up a persistent mode (e.g. LEGO Fortnite) and let me know the frame rate you are getting.
Performance Mode is not suitable for your GPU and is likely slower than DX12 Low
Right now I am checking DX12 Low to establish a baseline
When setting stuff to low
as in view distance
textures
etc?
also shadows on or off
Don't change the settings after I told you to set a preset or you'll defeat the point of testing a reference point
If you did, redo the settings again
i set everything to your test
Once we get an idea what the game is performing like, then it can investigate better
What FPS are you currently getting?
You failed to follow instructions. I didn't tell you to go play Battle Royale
my bad
how do i check that
Can you post the contents of Task Manager > Performance? The graphs on the left side.
Sure. Once it's loaded, let it sit and observe the frame rate. Don't move or anything. Once the FPS is stable, note the value.
Once you get the FPS there, then, in Task Manager, go to Performance > Memory. Post the contents here.
For this part, on which drive (C: or D:) Fortnite is installed on?
Memory, not Disk 1
Your low frame rates in Battle Royale is likely caused by streaming/traversal stutter, so all these info help
Your RAM is also in a pretty bad state
Do you know what speed your RAM is supposed to be?
im kinda bad with pc what does that mean?
also when downloading games should they be on D or C
my pc has 16 gb of ram i think
should i delete fortnite and re download on C:
The problem isn't with it being 16GB, but rather it being 2400 MT/s and single channel
Since we're not sure why it is running at 2400
Download CPU-Z and open the SPD tab there. Show the contents of that tab. (You may want to block out the serial number.)
Yes, when reinstalling, select Installation Options, and make sure that both DX12 shaders and pre-download streamed assets are checked.
if you don't have enough space, not much you can do other than to get a larger ssd
have you ever swapped drives beforehand?
my drive was on a prebuilt alienware
if you are unsure, uninstall fortnite, and then reinstall it on c:
i changed it out now its on new pc
ok, so you don't have an idea. guess uninstall and reinstall then to be absolutely sure.
all new parts besides cpu, ram, hard drive
should i uninstall everything?
even the epic online, anti cheat
etc
C:
D:
quick question, i have 2 tb but what drive is it on
one is 2 tb the other should be 256 gb
HDD
You have a 256GB SSD. This is very likely also your C: drive
It gets confusing likely because you reused the old drive and hence you still have a lot of leftovers
is there a way to fix this?
Use the Epic app to uninstall and reinstall. Do not directly operate on folders
ok
Technically there is no problem to fix. It's a FYI
Also don't forget about this
Wrong site?
Yeah, 256GB SSDs are tiny as heck. You need to consider moving to a 1TB model
Hold on
ok
@pulsar osprey https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
CPU-Z for Windows® x86/x64 is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system :
Processor name and number, codename, process, package, cache levels.
Mainboard and chipset.
Memory type, size, timings, and module specifications (SPD).
Real time measurement of each core's internal frequency, memor...
its giving me the same thing
The readme file? That's normal. Close it and check your Start.
What the hell? No
If you are confused, please send a screenshot of where you are right now.
So you haven't started downloading AND aren't using an adblocker

idk how to use ad blocker
Take a screenshot again
Click Setup English
Download the file and run.
Let it install, once it's done, go to Start and open the app
it gave me a file of code or somethign
also should i download fortnite back on D: since no space or clear some space
Make sure you clicked the purple download on the left
yea i did
This is why I said that you should be using an adblocker
It gets rids of the fake buttons by malicious ads
is there a way to like clear out my C and D files and start it fresh ?
You'll have to do this for now. Expect poor performance in battle royale until you can get a roomier SSD
It won't really help while your C: is 256GB
That's not enough space for anything
but the only problem really im having is on fortntie
In the meantime I suppose you get your RAM SPD info
how to do that?
This problem affects all openworld games as well as all current gen only games
They recommend or require an SSD, and this includes F2P games
so all games should be on ssd
So at some point it won't be just a Fortnite problem
Yes at least for open world games circa 2013 and all games circa 2020
what should be on the D: hdd file?
Ideally, no games, but if you can't due to lack of storage, the older stuff
Your pictures and videos should be located here too
I have like nothing on my pc lol only games maybe some random files
is there a way to clean it out and start fresh
or is that not a good idea
true but i have like a lot of junk
would it be good to refresh and start fresh
or no
i only have like 4 games i actually play
I'd probably use TreeSize Free to figure out how the space in your drives are being used and figure out where you can let go of
Instead of trying to nuke the files
hmm ok
before i switched my pc to my own build
i moved a bunch of random files from one to the other drive
either D to C
or C to D
not sure if it affected anything
but would it be better off to nuke it then going through everything
@sleek spire should I get another ram stick?
Yes, but do you know what spec your existing RAM is?
(You can use CPU-Z's SPD tab to see what's going on.)
It’s Alienware hyper x prebuilt one with 16 gb one stick
Idk why it’s not working
Is this tab showing empty parts?
That tab for me not even popping up
Send in a screenshot of the CPU-Z window.
@sleek spire
its not working
i downloaded like 6 times
nvm
its on a different site
but here it is
holy misconfiguration
for some reason your system should have xmp enabled but isn't
how do i do that?
you'll have to go to the bios
look for "intel extreme memory profile" and enable it. if asked, enable profile 1
this should speed up your ram by a fair bit
wait do i look for intel extreme on files?
bios, not files
as in, uefi firmware settings/bios
how do i do that
Is your current computer a prebuild from something like Dell or not?
it’s prebuilt alienware r11 or r10
i just took the cpu and ram stick and microsoft thing
bought new gpu case ps motherboard liquid cooling tho
Then it's no longer a prebuild
